Tottenham and Liverpool feel they should be higher up the table and their clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium feels like a key encounter for both clubs.

Tottenham's performances have fluctuated wildly over the last month and after a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest last weekend they will be desperate to give their disappointed fans some respite.

Spurs delivered a very strong performance at home to Brentford a fortnight ago and secured a thoroughly merited 2-0 victory. Xavi Simons won praise for his composed assist and a superb individual goal.

And Thomas Frank's side followed that effort with a 3-0 Champions League triumph at home to Slavia Prague, but their standards fell off a cliff at Forest, where they were swatted aside by Sean Dyche's side.

Simons was largely anonymous at the City Ground, but his lack of consistency is far from the only issue for Spurs, who have sorely missed the creative influence of long-term injured pair James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Tottenham remained 11th after their loss at the City Ground, but they are only four points worse off than Liverpool, who are getting nowhere near the standards set last season.

Liverpool brought some relief to their supporters with last Saturday's 2-0 victory at home to Brighton, sealing three points thanks to a double strike from their main danger man Hugo Ekitike.

Arne Slot's side made the perfect start thanks to Ekitike's first-minute opener but the rest of the match was far from straightforward. Brighton registered 14 goal attempts and edged the expected-goals figures by 1.96 to 1.82.

Mohamed Salah was lively on his return to the side but he has headed off to the Africa Cup of Nations for at least a few weeks and the squad has seemingly become further stretched by an injury for Joe Gomez and a knock for Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool have won five of their last six league meetings against Spurs and are warm favourites to take the points this weekend, but they do not have the look of a team who can be fully trusted.

The Reds were a winning machine for much of last season, but they haven't secured successive Premier League victories since September and could be left disappointed in the capital with a share of the points.

Kudus can contribute

Mohammed Kudus has been the pick of Tottenham's summer signings. He has contributed two Premier League goals and five assists and could come up with a major moment this weekend.

Spence may pose a threat

Tottenham have been getting a lot of attacking width from the full-backs Djed Spence and Pedro Porro. Spence raided forward on numerous occasions in the 2-0 victory at home to Brentford and he looks overpriced to deliver his first assist of the season.

Tottenham vs Liverpool Bet Builder

Hugo Ekitike to score at any time

Ekitike will be full of confidence after his brace against Brighton and he can add to his seven-goal top-flight tally.

Cristian Romero to be carded

Romero is the most carded player in the Premier League and he could collect another.

Both teams to score

Attack may be the best form of defence for both teams, who can serve up an entertaining spectacle.
