Tottenham vs Slavia Prague preview

Despite some Tottenham supporters voicing their concerns about Thomas Frank, Spurs remain handily placed in the Champions League after five rounds of the league phase.

Frank's men are 16th with three fixtures to play and four points from games against Slavia Prague and Bundesliga duo Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt should be enough to ensure they progress to the first knockout stage.

Spurs were humbled 5-3 at Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago but they have been solid at home in Europe this season, beating Villarreal 1-0 and FC Copenhagen 4-0 in north London.

The matchday-five loss at PSG came hot on the heels of a demoralising 4-1 derby defeat against Arsenal, and Spurs then lost 2-1 at home to Fulham after their fruitless trip to Paris.

However, Frank has managed to steady the ship with Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Newcastle United followed by a comfortable 2-0 win over the Dane's former employers Brentford at the weekend.

Saturday's win will have given Frank a much-needed lift and Tuesday's meeting with Slavia Prague is the perfect opportunity for Spurs to put themselves in an excellent position to be one of eight seeded clubs in the first knockout round.

The top eight is also not out of the question for Tottenham, who are only four points adrift of fifth-placed Real Madrid, and they should be confident of making their class count against Slavia.

The Czech visitors are 31st in the league-phase standings after collecting only three points from five games and they are yet to win in this season's competition.

An inability to find the back of the net has been central to their struggles. Slavia have scored just twice in the league phase and they failed to get on the scoresheet in both of their away ties to date, drawing 0-0 with Atalanta and losing 3-0 at Inter.

Simons to build on Brentford display

Frank handed Dutch star Xavi Simons a rare start against Brentford at the weekend and he repaid his manager with a goal and an assist.

Simons had four shots against the Bees, two of which hit the target, and he was the architect of Richarlison's opener before doubling Spurs' lead in the 43rd minute.

The Netherlands international should be given another chance to impress from the off against Slavia on Tuesday night.

Zafeiris good value to be cautioned

Midfielder Christos Zafeiris has committed more fouls than any Slavia player this season.

The all-action 22-year-old has been pulled up for 11 infringements in five Champions League outings, while he has been fouled nine times himself.

He should find himself involved in the thick of the action against Spurs' energetic midfield.
