Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the Netherlands international defender, Jan Paul van Hecke, from Brighton.
The 26-year-old has done quite well in the Premier League is a player for Brighton. Spurs need more depth at the back, and they have identified Van Hecke as a target.
Spurs eyeing Jan Paul van Hecke
According to former club scout Mick Brown, Tottenham have been looking at the player for a while, and they like him. It will be interesting to see if they can agree on a reasonable deal with Brighton. The defender is a key player for the Seagulls, and they might not want to lose him easily. It could be a difficult deal to complete, especially if Brighton are holding out for a premium. Tottenham will be hoping to sign him for a reasonable amount of money.
Brown said on Football Insider: “He is somebody Tottenham have been looking at.
“I think we’ve spoken about it before, I’m not sure that’s a position they’re going to be prioritising, because Romero and Van de Ven do a good job there.
“But if they’re looking long-term and making plans for the future, Van Hecke seems to be one they like.”
Van Hecke could help Spurs improve
The 26-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League, and there is no doubt that he is good enough to play for a big club like Spurs. The move to the North London club could be quite exciting for him. It would be a step up in his career, and he would get to play alongside his compatriot Micky van de Ven.
The defender is highly rated, and former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi has praised him for his “incredible leadership” qualities.
There is no doubt that he could be an important player for Tottenham, and he could help them tighten up at the back. It will be interesting to see if they follow up on their interest with an official proposal in the coming weeks. Convincing the defender will not be difficult for them, but they will need to agree on a deal with his club.
