Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi as a replacement for Cristian Romero this summer, according to journalist Alexis Rodriguez.

The Lilywhites endured a difficult campaign under Ange Postecoglou in 2024/25 and opted to sack him despite qualifying for the Champions League following their Europa League final win, replacing him with Thomas Frank.

Now the north London club are looking to bolster their squad for the new campaign and have identified the Colombia international as a target to strengthen their defensive lineup.

Tottenham Want to Sign Lucumi

He could replace Romero

Vice-captain Romero has emerged as someone who could leave the club this summer, with strong interest from Atletico Madrid and the Argentine admitting that he dreams of playing in La Liga.

That has left Tottenham looking at potential replacements for the 'world-class' star, and Bologna star Lucumi has emerged as someone the club are big fans of.

But they will have to see off competition from Premier League rivals Wolves and Brighton, who have both already held talks with the Serie A club about a deal for the 26-year-old South American.

Lucumi, who has been described as a "phenomenon" for his performances in Italy, is an aggressive defender with excellent physical attributes and is likely to come in as a partner for Micky Van de Ven should he arrive.

Frank also has Kevin Danso and Ben Davies as centre-back options available to him in the squad, while Archie Gray also played there on occasion during the 2024/25 season. But Lucumi would come into the squad with top-level experience having also played in the Champions League for Bologna, and would surely be a welcome addition.
