According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur were prepared to break the bank to sign a Premier League attacking midfielder during the summer.

Tottenham’s search for a number ten in the summer became a bit of a soap opera, and it eventually ended with the club securing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

However, that was not before Tottenham failed with a move for Morgan Gibbs-White, under strange circumstances.

Additionally, Spurs were snubbed by Eberechi Eze, who chose to join their North London rivals, Arsenal, which came as a major blow to the Lilywhites, who appeared very close to landing the former Eagles star.

Tottenham were ready to spend big on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers

It was also widely reported in the summer that Spurs wanted to test Aston Villa’s resolve to hold onto Morgan Rogers, and there has now been an interesting revelation on the matter.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that Thomas Frank’s men were prepared to offer ‘crazy’ money to land Rogers in the summer.

However, the Villans made it clear that the player was not for sale and refused to negotiate with the North London club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romano adds that Unai Emery’s side are keen to tie the England international to a new deal, with those efforts are currently ongoing.

Could Spurs try again for Rogers in January?

Reports have already surfaced that Tottenham could try again to land Rogers in January after falling short in the summer.

Spurs are thought to be facing competition from Chelsea for Rogers, but getting the 23-year-old out of Villa Park mid-season is not expected to be easy.
