The Southampton fans made sure to remind Arsenal fans of what had just happened down the road in Tottenham a few days ago when the Gunners visited St Mary’s for their final Premier League game of the campaign.

Tottenham fans have been basking in the glory of the Europa League glory since the final whistle at Bilbao last Wednesday and the celebrations continued on Sunday as the trophy was paraded around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The emotions that one has seen pouring out from Spurs fans over the last few days are a result of the 17-year wait to see their side lift a trophy and enduring constant jibes from opposition fans during that time.

Finally, Tottenham fans can claim bragging rights over their fiercest rivals, being one of only two London sides, along with Crystal Palace, to have finished the season with silverware.

Over the last few days, there has been an ongoing debate on who has had a better season: Tottenham or Arsenal?

It is fair to say that Spurs fans will not care and will be happy to rub their Europa League success into the faces of their rivals after having been constantly reminded of the fact that they have not won anything over the last two decades.

On Sunday, it was the Arsenal fans who were reminded by the Saints supporters of their lack of silverware and the success of their rivals. The home crowd at St Mary’s sang: “Tottenham Hotspur, they’ve won more than you” to the travelling Arsenal fans.
