Tottenham winter transfers

Yves Bissouma’s future at Spurs remains highly uncertain. The 28-year-old Mali international midfielder, who joined us from Brighton for £25 million in 2022, is in the final year of his contract, which expires in June 2026. This positions him for a potential free transfer next summer, with ongoing interest from clubs like Galatasaray abroad and Fulham at home.

Bissouma’s relationship with manager Thomas Frank soured early in the 2025/26 season. In August 2025, Frank excluded him from Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup squad against PSG due to repeated lateness, describing it as “one too many” incidents.

This followed a prior suspension for inhaling nitrous oxide in 2024. Frank later stated he holds “no hard feelings” but emphasised the need for discipline, noting Bissouma’s spot behind younger players like Lucas Bergvall. So clearly, there has been work to be done.

The Mali International was also omitted from Tottenham’s 2025/26 Champions League league-phase squad alongside players like Mathys Tel. A knee injury sustained in pre-season has kept him sidelined since September, limiting his appearances to just a handful this season. All in all, the prognosis looks bleak, and he has struggled for consistency; yes, he’s made 100 appearances overall, but that’s whilst failing to become a regular starter under Thomas Frank.

Now, the Daily Mail suggests that the player could be looking at an extension, as Tottenham look to secure their investment. This seems ambitious; however, this would prevent him from leaving on a free in January. The Mail believes that:

Tottenham will listen to offers in January, with Fulham among those monitoring his situation but prospective buyers hoping to see his price cut as his contract winds down will be disappointed if the option is triggered and extends his deal until 2027.

Quite what went wrong with ‘Biss’ is anyone’s guess. He seemed popular with fans and with teammates, yet there have clearly been deep-rooted issues surrounding his discipline. Given all his other challenges, Thomas Frank must be scratching his head.
