Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has 'transformed' under Thomas Frank this season, with the Danish manager deploying him a different role, BBC pundit Troy Deeney has claimed.
It's been a strong start to the season for Spurs under new manager Frank, despite a small blip before the international break, where they suffered a defeat at home to Bournemouth. Outside of that, Tottenham have won their other three Premier League games so far this campaign, enjoying an impressive victory against London rivals West Ham United at the weekend.
Tottenham are heading in a new direction at the moment, with Frank coming in to replace Ange Postecoglou earlier in the year. Daniel Levy has now also left the club, meaning things could also change off the pitch in terms of recruitment and strategy, and the new era has gotten off to a strong start in the opening weeks.
Pape Sarr 'Transformed' for Tottenham This Season
BBC pundit Deeney named Sarr in his team of the week after his performance against West Ham in the Premier League at the weekend. The former Watford striker claims that Sarr has got a bit more freedom under Frank this season, and as a result, he's 'transformed' from last term and is getting 'better and better'...
"Under Thomas Frank, Sarr seems to have got a bit more freedom to go forward. He showed high energy and was bursting past people. I know he is young and has more to do, but he seems transformed and is getting better and better."
Sarr is playing in more of an advanced role under Frank, and it's starting to get the best out of him, especially in the opposition box. Despite signing Xavi Simons in the summer transfer window, Frank has found a way to effectively get two number 10's into the side, with Sarr dropping deeper when Spurs don't have the ball.
It will be interesting to see how Frank sets up when he has the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison available, but for now, he's managed to get the best out of his current starting XI. Tottenham are now preparing to face Villarreal in a tough test upon their return to the Champions League, hosting the Spanish side on Tuesday.
