Vinai Venkatesham has made Micky van de Ven’s new contract one of his main priorities at Tottenham Hotspur amid Fabio Paratici's arrival as the new joint sporting director, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed.

The Spurs CEO is reportedly very keen to tie the Dutch international to a new deal, with the club aiming to reflect Van de Ven’s status as one of the best defenders in Europe with an improved contract.

Van de Ven’s current terms run until June 2028, with the 24-year-old earning around £50,000 a week. Spurs are believed to be prepared to more than double that figure to keep the central defender happy.

Tottenham want Van de Ven’s extension to be finalised before the New Year to avoid any potential interest emerging from other clubs in the January market.

Some of the biggest European clubs are believed to be eyeing a centre-back signing in the next two transfer windows, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern Munich reportedly looking at Van de Ven as one of the options.

Tottenham Aiming to Extend Van de Ven’s Deal

According to Bailey, Tottenham aim to extend Van de Ven's contract before the New Year, despite his current deal running until 2028:

“I am told it is very much one of Vinai Venkatesham’s priorities to get him tied down before the New Year; they don’t want Van de Ven’s name to become part of the centre back talk that is already happening. Spurs know he is under contract until 2028, so in theory he can’t move, but they want to keep him happy, and Spurs know he is as good as anything in England or indeed Europe at the moment.”

Tottenham announced Rodrigo Bentancur’s contract extension earlier this month, with the Argentina international penning a new long-term deal in North London.

The deal followed extensions for both captain Cristian Romero and Djed Spence this summer, with Spurs securing the futures of several first-team stars recently.

Van de Ven, who joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, has been an important part of the first-team squad since, despite enduring two injury-hit seasons.

The 24-year-old made just 40 league appearances across his first two years in North London, but has been ever-present for Thomas Frank this season, featuring in all seven of Spurs’ Premier League encounters so far.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Van de Ven has scored six goals in 61 appearances for Tottenham.

Tottenham have made a positive start to the season under Frank, losing just twice in their first 11 games across all competitions.

The Lilywhites are unbeaten on their return to the Champions League so far, collecting four points from their opening two games, following a win over Villarreal and a draw at Bodo/Glimt.
