Tottenham Hotspur have tonight been hit with a huge blow in their attempts to overhaul West Ham United in the fight against relegation.
Injury blow rocks Tottenham survival push
Roberto De Zerbi’s men have seen something of an uplift in performances and results, with four points from their last two games. A large part of that was due to £60m attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, who scored and created a goal against Brighton & Hove Albion last week.
Simons setback changes relegation picture
The Dutchman was due to play a huge part in Tottenham’s bid to escape the dreaded drop. However, it has now been revealed that he will be out with an ACL injury following a knock sustained in yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Simons was expected to be central to De Zerbi’s push in the remaining games, given his technical ability and eye for a pass. The 23-year-old is now expected to miss the next seven months, meaning he will play no part in the remainder of the season and will not be available for the start of the next campaign.
Further concerns with Solanke knock
Dominic Solanke was also injured in the same game, although there have been no reports yet regarding his expected return.
