Alasdair Gold believes that Tottenham’s top target for a key midfield role will become clear over the next week or two following Thomas Frank’s conversations with the Spurs hierarchy.

It has been reported over recent weeks that signing a defensive midfielder is one of Frank’s priorities at Tottenham this summer.

However, based on what is being rumoured, it appears that Tottenham are now focusing on reinforcing their attack, with several Premier League attackers said to be on the club’s radar.

Some sources have suggested that Frank wants to reunite with Christian Norgaard at Spurs but it has been revealed that Tottenham are expected to be frustrated in their pursuit of Norgaard, with Brentford having no intention of letting their captain leave.

Alasdair Gold reveals Tottenham’s priorities have changed for number six role

Gold has now explained that the Spurs recruitment team have had to come up with a new list of defensive midfield targets after the arrival of Frank, with the demands of the number six being very different in the Dane’s system than Ange Postecoglou’s.

The journalist suggested that Tottenham’s top targets for that role will come to light within the next week or two once the new Spurs head coach has a conversation with Johan Lange.

When asked which defensive midfielder the Lilywhites are expected to target this summer, Gold said in a Q&A on Football.London: “The problem with that role in particular is the arrival of Thomas Frank brings a reset of sorts in that the number six has to be someone who fits his system compared to Ange Postecoglou’s.

“Spurs were already looking for a number six but some on the list may well have changed in recent days as Frank and Johan Lange decide in their key recruitment chats that would have taken place at Hotspur Way last week as well as subsequent and previous conversations about the best fitting names for his system that are gettable.

“We’ll find out in the next week or two which number sixes are on the radar as Frank’s needs get pushed out within the game to agents and clubs. It’s always the way it works under a new manager. It takes a little time and various meetings before details start to emerge.”

Which defensive midfielders have been linked with Spurs?

There have been suggestions over recent weeks that Tottenham have their eye on Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson.

It has also emerged that Spurs have explored a move for Algerian international Adem Zorgane, who plays for Sporting Charleroi in Belgium.
