As soon as the lineup dropped for Chelsea’s London derby with Tottenham Hotspur, there was one very notable absence. Geovany Quenda was named to the starting eleven with it being clear that Joao Pedro was totally absent from the squad. The Brazilian has been in hot form since the start of the campaign, bagging five goals and three assists so far. His absence was a big worry for fans as his chemistry with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers was a big part of Xabi Alonso’s tactical ideology when attacking.

Latest Reports
Nizaar Kinsella was quick to cover the news, reporting that the player is out with an injury. The nature of the problem is currently unknown with the attacker “being assessed”. Last week Malo Gusto missed out against Everton with a brief illness but there’s no such luck this time for the Blues who are now dealing with an issue to their marquee striker.
Fans will be hoping it is only something minor, maybe a precaution over the problem that saw him get hurt earlier in the campaign. For now, all eyes will have to turn to the London derby without their prolific goalscorer.
The Last Word
The Brazilian striker has been dealing with injuries already in this term, he missed the loss to Brentford just before the international break. Any issue to him is likely to cause worry among the fans after his hot start to the season as well as the sale of Nicolas Jackson leaving the squad without a similar striking profile.
It was interesting that against the Lilywhites, Danny Welbeck wasn’t given the nod to start. The veteran goalscorer is a decent option when physicality is needed but age does seem to hold him back when it comes to operating outside the box.
Blues fans will be hoping that this is just a temporary problem and that Pedro will be back firing and in fine form soon.
