Wilson Odobert’s future at Tottenham has been heavily speculated in recent months.

The Frenchman has shown his class on the right wing since arriving at Hotspur Way in 2024 from Burnley.

There is no doubt that he possesses the raw pace, technicality and skill to dominate on the wing for Spurs. However, the right wing will not be his forever home at Tottenham, and he may need to adapt to a different normal.

This article includes exclusive comments from Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham.

Odobert has a chance to become Frank’s starting left winger

Against Wycombe behind closed doors, Odobert showed his class on the right wing and displayed an almost telepathic partnership with Pedro Porro.

But competition for the right side is rife, and with Mohammed Kudus coming in, there is little chance anyone but him will get a sniff. However, now that Son Heung-min has confirmed his departure, there is an opening on the other side of the pitch.

An opening that Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes presents Odobert with the perfect opportunity to establish himself as a starter.

“I think Odobert’s game time on the right will be limited because of how good Kudus is,” Wenham said.

“I think Kudus comes in and he is instantly the first choice on the right wing with Brennan Johnson, probably as the backup and then you’ve got Dejan Kulusevski as well, when he recovers from injury, he’ll be able to play over on that side.

“With Son departing, Odobert has a chance to establish himself on the left of midfield, because there’s an opening there for somebody, whether that be him or whether that is Mathys Tel.”

Odobert could surprise Tottenham fans

There is a desire among Tottenham fans for the club to sign an established left winger to replace their captain.

This makes perfect sense. The Lilywhites are competing in four competitions next season and need to be armed with the best parts. However, it would not be a complete disaster if Odobert were to take up that mantle.

The 20-year-old has demonstrated during pre-season that he is capable of harming defences and has the pace and acceleration to match. Therefore, Odobert could surprise a few non-believers next season.
