Worse Than Porro: De Zerbi Must Drop 3/10 Tottenham Star After Leeds Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur may have felt that Jayden Bogle should have been sent off in their 1-0 defeat to Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime, but it shouldn't deflect from what was a poor display from the in-form visitors.

Tottenham came into the clash in Yorkshire on the back of three successive Premier League victories, but in what was a pretty poor top flight game, they still looked second best compared to Daniel Farke's men for the majority of the game.

Spurs should have been full of confidence in the match before the two-week international break, but instead it was Noah Okafor's late winner that separated the sides.

The north London outfit will argue that they should have been playing against 10 men for the majority of the game after Bogle's first-half challenge on Mathys Tel, which went unpunished despite a four-minute VAR review.

That was a decision that former Premier League referee Mike Dean disagreed with on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, as he said it should '100%' have been a red card, especially after Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off for something very similar last weekend.

A number of Spurs players simply didn't turn up at Elland Road, including Pedro Porro and Omar Marmoush.

The former struggled to deal with Gabriel Gudmundsson from a defensive point of view throughout the game, while he offered little threat in attack either.

The Spaniard was also fortunate not to see red following a challenge on Lukas Nmecha, having been harshly booked for an earlier tackle that led to De Zerbi being booked.

Meanwhile, Marmoush largely continues to flatter to deceive in a Spurs shirt following his summer move from Manchester City, and he offered little in the centre-forward position and on the left, where he moved after Tel had to be substituted.

Those two weren't the only poor performers on the day though, with Mohammed Kudus another to struggle badly.

Kudus Will be Lucky to Start Against Ipswich

While Porro and Marmoush were notably below-par in Yorkshire, Kudus produced one of his worst performances in a Tottenham shirt against Leeds.

The Ghana international started on the right wing against Farke's side, but he offered very little and was unable to provide the outlet they needed in the second half.

The 26-year-old was eventually replaced by Luca Williams-Barnett in the 83rd minute, and was handed a 3/10 rating by the Standard for his display.

Kudus is known for his ability on the ball but his dribbling was worse than normal, while he could only provide one accurate cross from seven attempts as Tottenham pushed for a goal.

To only win three out of the 13 duels he faced sums up the bad day at the office he had, and based on this display he will be fortunate to keep his spot in the XI against Ipswich after the international break.

While De Zerbi has made no secret of the fact that he is a big fan of Kudus having tried to sign him for Brighton previously, he can't continue to start matches if he performs like that.

The Italian boss has other options to pick from too with Luca Williams-Barnett, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski all on the bench on Saturday, while Savio could be back in action after the international break after injury.

Tel could well be missing for some weeks after leaving Elland Road on crutches, but it doesn't mean that Kudus will start again against the Tractor Boys.

Based on this display, he should be dropped regardless.
