Thomas Frank will only want to retain players he sees a future with while head coach at Tottenham.

Frank has had a splendid start to life in North London, considering he has only been at the helm for a handful of months.

Tottenham claimed all three points against Leeds United at Elland Road and remain unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League after staging a comeback against Bodo/Glimt.

With the Lilywhites showing more promise than most top-flight clubs, players will need to fight for the badge to earn minutes on the pitch.

Yves Bissouma has ‘a lot to prove’ at Tottenham

Yves Bissouma was set to leave Tottenham over the summer before his move to Galatasaray collapsed in its final moments.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Frank left Bissouma out of Spurs’ squad to face PSG in the UEFA Super Cup after disciplinary issues arose, which were also a heavy feature in the Ange Postecoglou era.

The defensive midfielder has since returned to training despite being in the final year of his contract.

While his journey in North London seems to be coming to an end, ex-Premier League midfielder Martin Allen – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Bissouma has much to do if he wants to regain the trust of those at the club.

“He’s got a lot to prove,” Allen said.

“He is a good player, so we will see. Let’s hope his discipline can improve and his timekeeping for sure.

“I always felt that if you’re late off the pitch and you can’t be bothered to make meetings and get in on time for training, then you’re going to be late on the pitch.

“And if you’re late on the pitch, it’s going to cost your team, it’s going to cost you goals, cost you points, and nobody wants that in their football club. So, he’s got a lot to do.”

As a result, Bissouma will be looking to make the most out of the minutes when and if he gets them at Tottenham.

Thomas Frank already has his Yves Bissouma replacement

There are already talks of Tottenham signing Joao Palhinha on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich after acquiring him on loan over the summer.

The defensive midfielder has been a force at the back, often shielding the Lilywhites’ backline while advancing into the final third to get onto the other end of chances, with Palhinha seen as a huge upgrade on Bissouma.

In fact, the partnership of Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur has become a staple in the midfield for Frank and doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

Even if Bissouma is given a chance under the Dane, it is doubtful that Spurs will need him beyond this season.
