FC Barcelona have registered an interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, setting up a potential heavyweight summer battle for the Argentine international.

According to an exclusive update from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Italian giants Inter Milan have already initiated the first formal move by holding preliminary exploratory talks with Spurs to gauge the player’s market availability.

High-cost defensive target

While Barcelona’s sporting department heavily admires Romero’s aggressive, front-footed defensive profile, any potential operation to lure the 28-year-old away from North London will command an astronomical financial package.

The Lilywhites have been free-spending this summer and will need to raise funds from sales in order to balance their books, opening the doors for Romero’s departure.

The Argentine international is keen on an exit and Tottenham are open to his sale, but they are likely to command a significant fee for their club captain.

Inter Milan make the first move

As per Romano, Inter Milan and Tottenham have already spoken about the possibility of a move for Romero during their discussions over a transfer involving Djed Spence this summer.

The Nerazzurri are actively scouring the market for an elite, physical centre-back to reinforce their backline amid question marks over the future of Alessandro Bastoni, a target for Barcelona not very long ago.

While Inter’s initial dialogues were seemingly intended to assess the financial feasibility of a deal, the scale of the required investment means the Italian side will likely need to sanction a major star departure before submitting an official, concrete bid.

Barcelona’s strategic stance

Barcelona, for their part, like Romero and are expected to be closely monitoring these developments from the wings as they look to add elite steel to their backline under Hansi Flick.

As things stand, the absolute priority is to sign a new centre-forward to replace Robert Lewandowski, with Julian Alvarez emerging as the leading target.

As for a new centre-back, the Blaugrana do not see it as a priority, but a potential departure of Ronald Araujo, who is no longer a regular starter, could lead the club to explore options in the market.

Romero, for his part, is keen on a move to Spain, with Atletico Madrid also a possible destination for the Argentine alongside Barcelona.

It now remains to be seen if the Blaugrana’s admiration for the centre-back turns into an approach or an offer.

The 28-year-old's future has been up in the air for a while, as his current contract runs to June 2029, but he is frustrated at their difficulties after risking relegation.

Sportitalia had already reported that he was pushing for an exit this summer.

According to transfer pundit Romano in his Italian-language YouTube channel, it was during talks between Inter and Tottenham for Djed Spence that they discussed Romero too.

He claims that it was Tottenham who suggested Inter look into the possibility of buying Romero.

The Nerazzurri are seeking an experienced centre-back and Cuti would fit the bill, especially as there is already a strong Argentine flavour at the club with Lautaro Martinez and vice president Javier Zanetti.

More importantly, Romero already knows Serie A well, having come to Italy for Genoa in 2018, then playing for Juventus and Atalanta, where he made the €53.8m move to Tottenham in the summer of 2021.

Tottenham Hotspur center midfielder Lucas Bergvall submitted a transfer request to the club at the beginning of the 2026 World Cup, and while he did nothing for Sweden to improve his stock or prove Roberto De Zerbi wrong for leaving him on the bench during the Premier League relegation fight, Spurs have been trying to convince him not to go.

And Spurs would be crazy to just up and give up on Bergvall. He is just 20 years old and one of their biggest talents. He is a top box to box talent with great athletic tools and was already key in the 2024/25 season when Spurs won the Europa League.

Premier League clubs like Aston Villa and especially Nottingham Forest are interested, and while swap deals for Morgan Rogers or Morgan Gibbs-White could be sensible moves for Spurs, Villa and Forest are probably not going to cut them any deals that would be of benefit, likely asking for overpays for those in demand Premier League players. And if Bergvall were to go off for Forest or Villa and become a superstar midfielder like Tottenham think he will be, then that will burn a whole lot.

Tottenham have a reason to call up Barcelona

So if Lucas Bergvall continues on insisting for a transfer away from Tottenham Hotspur, then maybe the best place for him to go is outside of the Premier League. When Spurs signed him initially, Barcelona were very, very interested, and it was seen as a massive coup for Tottenham to beat one of the three biggest clubs on the planet to a top young prospect's signature.

Bergvall would probably not say no to Barcelona a second time around, and while their midfield talent and battle for playing time would make things even more onerous for Bergvall, that would not be a bad thing for Tottenham - and the allure of Barca may be too great for him.

Meanwhile, Tottenham need players who can score goals and make things happen at striker or on the left wing. Barcelona have a player on the transfer list ripe for the taking in Ferran Torres. Barca are maintaining they do not want to sell, but with PSG and other top clubs interested, Torres could be wanting a change in scenery.

He is not a good enough finisher to be a striker, which is where he has been playing for Barca, but his finishing would be more than good enough to score those same 10-15 goals on the wings. Torres is a quick and highly intelligent player off the ball - the sort of marquee signing Tottenham can only dream of and would have a hard time finding someone better on the open market. Attempting a Bergvall and cash swap for Torres is well worth thinking about.

Tottenham Hotspur center midfielder Archie Gray was arguably the club's best player when looking at the 2025/26 Premier League season from start to finish comprehensively, and he was especially strong when Spurs were at their worst in the spring and late winter, heading into a downward spiral with Premier League relegation written all over them.

Gray showed great courage, leadership, and even quality on the ball when many of his teammates did not. So it was profoundly disappointing to see Gray sitting on the bench for Rodrigo Bentancur after Roberto De Zerbi took over, even though Gray was much better than the experienced Uruguayan international in the first half of the 2025/26 season - and better than everyone else in the second half of the campaign before De Zerbi's arrival.

Although it seemed like De Zerbi was still high on Gray despite the Bentancur decision, Tottenham Hotspur fans have to question his true intentions with their best young player. Even though the 185 million pound signings of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali were wonderful and will help the team a lot, if Lucas Bergvall is thinking about his Spurs future after those additions, Archie Gray is in an even bigger lurch.

Archie Gray deserves the trust

Tottenham have already lost Luka Vuskovic to Brighton and are at risk of losing Bergvall to Nottingham Forest, so now fans can only ask legitimate questions about what De Zerbi is planning with another, even bigger gem in Gray and if he is just blowing up the good things the team had to build everything up in his own image.

There is no reason to believe Gray is disgruntled, De Zerbi is against him, or that the English youth international is going. But it is suspicious what is happening with Gray and what the 2026/27 season holds for him.

But the season is long, injuries always come, and squads need to be deep, especially in the Premier League. You just get the feeling, though, that De Zerbi isn't quite getting how good Gray is and what makes him so special, to the point where Tottenham Hotspur supporters who doubted him heavily turned around and voted him their Player of the Season in 2025/26.

Gray, on the ball, is not quite as good as Tonali, but he is not far off from Fernandes and may be just as good, when considering the context of how well he played under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor when everyone else was beyond woeful. Spurs fans can only hope De Zerbi has more trust in him than it seems.

Tottenham Hotspur feel like a totally different team from four months ago when they looked like they were guaranteed to be relegated. Although there was a lot of skepticism about the bold hiring of Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian manager has been at the heart of the change. Not only did he spare Spurs relegation blushes, but he has transformed the squad already this summer with big signings Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes.

De Zerbi feels like the one really driving the ship after saving Spurs from relegation, which makes sense since part of the contract when he joined Spurs stipulated that he would have a significant say over decision making.

Tottenham fans, though, have seen this scenario play out too many times. Spurs are making the moves they never have before like beating out Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Real Madrid to marquee signings, but how long will it last? De Zerbi has a big say in what Spurs are doing, but he does not have THE say, let alone the alone say.

Tottenham need to be serious about goals

Johan Lange has often done what Tottenham Hotspur's ownership asks, which is to keep things cheap and only go after the young prospects or the bargain signings - even if they are not really bargains. Anything to pinch a penny.

The Lewis Family are hard for Tottenham Hotspur fans to trust, and even if all the rhetoric and the early signs are positive, we all know that signing a player who can bring goals and bags of quality to change the attack is truly what is expensive and the most hard thing to do - and Spurs have never even tried to replace either Harry Kane or Son Heung-min now.

That is the big task for Tottenham to do before the summer 2026 transfer window ends, and if Spurs do not sign those top attacking options who can score 20 per Premier League season, then they can kiss all the foundational work of Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes goodbye.

Tottenham supporters are always afraid that Spurs will back out of investing and doing the right thing when it really matters. Johan Lange has made so many bad decisions since. taking over for Daniel Levy, especially in the winter transfer window, along those lines and even before that with the players he has identified for Daniel Levy. Tottenham cannot fail this task in 2026.

Tottenham Hotspur have been actively beefing up their squad in preparation for a real run at the top five of the Premier League and a return to Champions League football under the ambitious Roberto De Zerbi, who was not afraid to sanction the 185 million pound double swoop for Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

After being blown out twice in the North London Derby last season, Spurs are way off the pace of arch rivals Arsenal, but the gap between 17th and nearly relegated to first and champions of England may not be as cavernous as it looks on paper - least not to the Spurs faithful.

Amidst optimism from former Tottenham managers and players Peter Crouch, Harry Redknapp, and Louis Saha that a top five finish is coming in 2026/27 under De Zerbi, Tottenham fans are quietly celebrating a poor decision made by their neighbors.

Arsenal just got weaker offensively

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the rumors are true and that Arsenal have sold their best left winger and even arguably their most important forward of the Premier League winning season. Arsenal have sent Belgian international Leandro Trossard to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas for 20 million euros.

Trossard had six goals and six assists and was one of the best players on Arsenal at getting into dangerous positions and creating chances. He scored and assisted many clutch goals, out performing Gabriel Martinelli on the left hand side and even showing more verve and inciveness than a fading Bukayo Saka.

Tottenham Hotspur have to love Arsenal's poor decision to sell Leandro Trossard just to cash in less money than what Spurs will probably get out of selling Richarlison, who isn't even as good of a player as Trossard is.

Anything that weakens Arsenal is great news for Tottenham, because it brings them one step closer to bridging the gap between themselves and their top rivals. The Gunners already had a pretty weak front line relative to the other top Premier League clubs like Manchester City, and now they just lost a crucial piece and an experienced player who made a clear difference in the title race.

If Tottenham can keep the spending going and sign the right left winger and the right striker, they will have high hopes that they can usurp Arsenal's attack, field a better front three, and finally compete side by side in the table with the Gunners again. Trossard's loss should not be an underrated offseason storyline.

It's done. Well, it's been done for a while but now it's official. Tottenham Hotspur formally announced the departure of defender Luka Vuskovic to Brighton & Hove Albion. Spurs will receive a guaranteed £48m in fees, and the contract includes a 20% sell-on whenever Brighton decide to sell Vuskovic in the future (EDIT: plus the option to match and supersede any potential offer).

The move comes before the Croatian wunderkind even made an official first team appearance with Spurs. Tottenham agreed to purchasehe Vuskovic from his boyhood club Hajkuk Split when he was 15, but weren't able to formally sign him until he turned 18. In the meantime, Vuskovic spent his time eternally on loan — first at Radomiak Radom in Poland, then a stint at Westerlo in Belgium before his impressive loan with Hamburg in the Bundesliga last season. That Hamburg season was amazing — he was named to the Bundesliga team of the season and by season's end he had cemented his status as one of the most talented young players in Europe.

However, he still seemed seemingly stuck as a 4th or 5th choice CB at Tottenham Hotspur, and there were questions as to whether his skill set would transfer to Roberto De Zerbi's new tactics at Spurs. Vuskovic is excellent in the air and positionally solid, but his speed is something of a concern in the fast-paced Premier League. Named to Croatia's World Cup squad, Vuskovic and his agents started making noise this summer about wanting to leave the club, eventually leading to where we are now.

£50m+ for a 19-year-old defender who hasn't played in the Premier League yet is very good money, and Tottenham made the decision to cash in on his potential rather than keep a potentially unhappy future star on the bench. Vuskovic clearly just wanted to play ball, and he'll have a much better chance of getting regular playing time at Brighton (replacing Jan Paul van Hecke, now at Spurs) than if he stayed in north London. I would've wished for a buy-back clause in the deal, but getting 20% of any future sale is a nice cherry on top of the cake.

I wish I could've seen Luka play for us at least once, but that's not to be. Tottenham made a business decision with Vuskovic, and considering the outlay they've already spent on transfers this summer, it's not a dumb move from a business perspective. But we'll always be wondering what might have happened if we had stuck to our guns.

Too late — now we will see just how close Vuskovic gets to fulfilling his incredible promise. Good luck, Luka. Don't score against us.

Suddenly, Spurs supporters are growing impatient.

The dopamine rush ignited by our midfield splurge has dissipated. We need more! The club's moved onto the final phase of its summer rebuild, with an attack that spluttered last season in great need of rejuvenation.

While there was clarity in terms of who Roberto De Zerbi wanted to bolster his defence and engine room, it's not yet clear who exactly Spurs are after in forward areas.

Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi is the hottest name, and Spurs are seemingly willing to test the Cherries' resolve despite a mammoth valuation. Still, there's not exactly been much movement on that front over the past week, and we're starting to learn about potential alternatives to the expensive young Frenchman.

Barcelona open to selling Ferran Torres this summer

A pursuit of Barcelona's Ferran Torres certainly wasn't on my bingo card this summer. Mind you, barely anything Spurs have done in the transfer window so far has been predictable.

The Torres rumours aren't set in stone. We haven't got an Ornstein or even a Fabrizio tying us to a potential deal. Instead, Caught Offside have suggested that Spurs are in the race to sign the Spanish forward along with the likes of Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Lilywhites are forward-needy, and Bara, despite already losing Robert Lewandowski, are open to selling Torres this summer. According to The Athletic, the La Liga champions would be happy to sanction a sale to avoid extending his contract, which expires next summer, and thus paying Manchester City an extra 8m.

Bara agreed an initial 55m fee with City back in January 2022, as well as 10m in add-ons, which have been achieved. A clause in the deal also stated that the Catalan club would also send the Cityzens 8m if he were to extend his contract at Camp Nou.

For Spurs, there's an opportunity to acquire a highly-experienced and versatile forward at a bargain price. The fact PSG are after him shows just how valuable a player he is, with Luis Enrique seeking a replacement for Gonalo Ramos.

Torres was only briefly in Manchester, scoring nine times in 28 Premier League appearances. He was only young when he signed for City, mind. Torres has since evolved under Hansi Flick, earning the nickname "El Tiburn" (The Shark) as a result of his fierce mentality and killer instinct in the box.

The Spaniard does blow hot and cold, though, and when he's off it, boy he's hard to watch. Nevertheless, at 26, Ferran is yet to peak and depending on the price, it's a move that could have high upside.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the sale of Luka Vuskovic to Brighton in a deal reaching £50million.

The 19-year-old had been viewed as one of the most exciting young players on the books in North London following his arrival from Hajduk Split.

However, Vuskovic was determined to secure regular first-team football on a permanent basis after spending last season on loan with Hamburg.

Spurs could not offer those assurances following the additions of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke this summer.

Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso are also competing for places at the heart of the Tottenham defence.

The young Croatian now moves on to Brighton, but the structure of the agreement means that Spurs will be keeping a keen eye on his future.

What clauses Tottenham have secured in Luka Vuskovic agreement

On Tuesday, Brighton announced the signing of Vuskovic, who moves for a club-record fee.

The Seagulls will pay Tottenham a guaranteed £46m, with a further £4m potentially due through available add-ons.

Crucially, the Lilywhites have also negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights as part of the agreement, as per Sky Sports.

That would allow Tottenham to benefit financially should Brighton eventually sell Vuskovic, while the matching rights could provide the North London club with an opportunity to bring him back in the future.

The Croatian becomes the fourth-most expensive departure in Tottenham history, behind only Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and Kyle Walker.

Tottenham News previously studied whether Spurs would regret letting Vuskovic go, but now it appears that they have still sealed a more than favourable outcome.

After all of the criticism in recent weeks, the Lilywhites have sealed a deal in their favour. Not only is there a chance to make more money on the defender, but there is even the opportunity to bring him back in the future.

As they rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi, the extra £50m will prove pivotal, while their future wishes have also been covered.

Brighton now, need to fulfil their duties and see Vuskovic on the right path.
