Tottenham Hotspur fullback Djed Spence has enjoyed one of the best stories of the 2026 World Cup. Even though he does not start every game for Thomas Tuchel, he has thrived in this bench role as something of a closer on defense, coming in for the manager late in matches to help the Three Lions survive some pretty stiff challenges.

First, Spence impressed against Mexico in a narrow 3-2 victory with El Tri charging onward for that equalizer, putting his body on the line to clear it every chance he got whlie marking in the box better than what anyone on Tottenham did in the Premier League this season.

Then, Spence had another belter off the bench as England defeated Norway and Erling Haaland 2-1, nearly scoring himself with a couple of inspired forays into the attacking third to go with his usual determined defending.

Djed Spence has earned a choice over his future now

From questionable Thomas Tuchel decision to understated English hero, Djed Spence has caught the attention of Everton for a possible transfer this summer, but now the Toffees are not the only team Tottenham Hotspur have to worry about.

Out of nowhere, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Serie A champions Inter Milan are interested in Spence. They are still deciding on their favorite option and analyzing the candidates based on cost and fit, but Spence is on the radar.

Who would have thought even just a month or two ago that Spence would be on the radar of the best club in Italy right now as a possible replacement for new Real Madrid signing Denzel Dumfries? Everton makes sense, but Spence is really gaining a big profile with Inter now after his signature - or, at the very least, considering him as an option.

For Tottenham, Spence's interest from Inter changes everything. Spence is fully COYS, but turning down the Serie A champions who were in two of the last four Champions League Finals is not easy to do. Inter are not more rife with cash than Spurs, but they do well for themselves and actually have more of an opening for a starting spot, in a way, after selling Dumfries; Spence would love to be a right wing back.

Tottenham do not have a backup right back, but Spence mostly plays on the left anyway, though after the Andy Robertson signing, many Spurs fans have wondered if his future could lie elsewhere. He has greatly impressed them, too, with his World Cup displays, but, now, the future is in Spence's hands. He has indeed earned that right.

Spurs refusing three approaches for Lankshear suggests there is finally some discipline about squad building.

The encouraging part is that this is not hype without substance. Lankshear has gone out, played real men’s football, dealt with the Championship’s physical side, and delivered numbers in a poor team. That is a proper test. If he had scored 12 in a strong side, people would still ask questions. Doing it for a relegated team gives the story more weight.

There is also no need for Tottenham to panic and sell. If De Zerbi likes what he sees in training, Spurs have a young striker who can either contribute this season or become even more valuable in 12 months. If De Zerbi decides he needs another loan, Tottenham can still choose the right environment rather than accept a deal that mainly benefits someone else.

Supporters should be pleased because the club seem to be acting like a club with a plan. Rejecting Sporting, Wolves and Southampton is not arrogance. It is patience. And if Lankshear really is as highly regarded as this report suggests, patience is probably the smartest move Tottenham can make.

In truth, Spurs have been trying to sell Richarlison for at least a year now, but they have found it tough to find the right buyer and even tougher to part ways with one of their only credible scoring options in lieu of, previously, Daniel Levy being able to sign someone convincingly better.

If Tottenham Hotspur can pull off a real summer coup and get Bournemouth to sell them Kroupi, that would be the most ideal outcome for the Lilywhites. But regardless, Richarlison is one of the few sellable assets in the squad and one of the few players not set to be part of the club's future for the next five years like Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, or Mohammed Kudus.

Spurs are going to have to sell either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison. With all Spurs have tied up in Solanke financially, they probably want to give him one more go in his third season before selling for something somewhat closer to 65 million pounds, so getting a return on investment above what they would obtain now makes the most sense. And because of his all around game and affinity with Roberto De Zerbi, he should be safe.

Richarlison, though, does not have any of that. He will always be, like Solanke, an expensive addition who did not measure up, had his injuries, and ultimately was not good enough to be the main 9. But at least, he can leave with his head held high after a positive 2025/26 season.

Tottenham Hotspur are in need of an attacking boost this summer transfer window. Only Richarlison scored double digit goals in the Premier League for Spurs last season with 11, and the second best goal scorer after that was Joao Palhinha, who is now gone, with five. Nobody else had five and of the three players with four, two of them were center backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

So it would, then, seem bizarre to predict a strong 2026/27 season from a Tottenham attack that was this futile and struggled so much at the essential art of scoring goals, but with one shrewd addition, Spurs could really make some noise.

Because Tottenham's existing attack has quality pieces and depth if everyone can stay healthy. That is a big if, but Spure did add two real difference makers in Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, who were both excellent at times last season when given a proper chance.

Tottenham need that 9

Young wingers Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert are well worth developing, while veterans Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, again, are absolute class when they are healthy and are proven stars in the Premier League.

But what Spurs really need is that man to lead the line. Ideally, Spurs would sign a left winger who can score and go for multiple big signings in the attack, but the most essential and the one who can change this team the most is that striker.

Tottenham Hotspur spent 65 million pounds, a record at the time, on Dominic Solanke in 2024, thinking he would be the replacement for Harry Kane. Anyone without blinders on could see that would never be the case and even mentioning Kane in the same breath as Solanke is tantamount to disrespect, and, as Solanke showed in 2025/26, he is not the right player to start up top for Spurs. Back up a top 9? Sure. Start every game and score 20 per season? No way.

The thing is, Tottenham Hotspur are well aware if they had to fight tooth and nail and spend 185 million pounds on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes combined, then signing that caliber of a striker will be insanely expensive - and competitive.

Spurs are already finding that out with a striker of the future. Eli Junior Kroupi had 13 goals as a young striker for Bournemouth last season, putting him in company with players like Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Ryan Giggs, and Romelu Lukaku to hit that mark as teenagers in the Premier League - all turned out to be world class players. If Spurs can land a player like this with current quality and future upside, it will be expensive and onerous, but it could be the last piece Spurs need to go volcanic.
