Description

Tottenham will hope to secure their top-flight status this afternoon as they host Everton in their final Premier League match of the season.

Spurs’ disastrous campaign has come to a head, with the proud north London outfit facing a relegation shootout with crisis-stricken West Ham on the last day of the season.

Only a win will be enough to secure their safety beyond any doubt, while a loss or draw would leave their relegation prospects in the hands of the Irons, who host Leeds in a simultaneous kick-off.

The club’s supporters will do all in their power to get behind the team, though, with thousands expected to line the streets and greet the team coach on arrival in N17.

Roberto De Zerbi is doing his part, too, saying after last week’s defeat by Chelsea that this match meant more to the club than last season’s Europa League final.

The injuries which have plagued this Tottenham season remain, though Djed Spence has made himself available despite breaking his jaw at Stamford Bridge.

For Everton, there is little left to play for. Dreams of qualifying for Europe have been dashed, with ninth-place now the best finish they can achieve.

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Dominic Solanke will be available for selection ahead of Tottenham’s relegation decider against Everton.

Solanke has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury sustained during last month’s win away to Wolves.

De Zerbi had said last week that he hoped to have Solanke available to play some part this weekend.

"Solanke is available, we have to decide if he starts in the first XI,” De Zerbi said on Friday afternoon.

De Zerbi added that they still had to assess the “physical condition” of James Maddison, who has seen his minutes off the bench steadily increase since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“[James] Maddison is available. It's always tough to decide before the game how many minutes he can play.

“Of course, he's a different player, a top player for us, but we have to analyse the physical condition with this Italian weather.”

Djed Spence, meanwhile, is fit to play despite suffering a broken jaw during Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The England right-back, who has been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, will play with a protective mask if called upon.

Cristian Romero remains out with a knee injury but will not be in attendance against Everton, having decided to continue his rehabilitation in Argentina.

De Zerbi has prioritised continuity since he took charge and named an unchanged starting lineup against Chelsea.

Despite defeat at Stamford Bridge, it would not be unexpected for the Italian to once again opt not to make alterations to his team ahead of Everton’s visit.

Guglielmo Vicario is back fit and was on the bench against Chelsea. But the Italian goalkeeper is lacking match sharpness, and so it would be a risk to hand him his first start in two months in such a pivotal game.

De Zerbi appears to have settled on a midfield combination he likes, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Conor Gallagher and Joao Palhinha all starting the last three games.

He is therefore unlikely to make any changes in the middle of the park. Though he will have been impressed with Pape Matar Sarr’s cameo off the bench at Stamford Bridge.

Injuries leave De Zerbi with little choice in attack, despite frustrating performances from Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani in west London.

With a decision to be made on Solanke’s fitness, Richarlison could continue to lead the line.

The Brazilian struggled for large parts against Chelsea before popping up with the goal that got Spurs back in the game and set up a nervy finish.

Spurs are two points above the relegation zone and know that a win against Everton will keep them up, while a draw will effectively secure safety due to their superior goal difference over West Ham.

Spurs would, however, be relegated if they lose to Everton and West Ham beat Leeds at the London Stadium.

Predicted Tottenham XI (4-2-3-1): Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Palhinha; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Tel; Richarlison

Injured: Davies, Kulusevski, Odobert, Kudus, Romero, Simons

Date and time: 4pm BST on Sunday, May 24, 2026

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Cristian Romero will not be in attendance for Tottenham’s relegation decider at home to Everton on Sunday.

Romero, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, has travelled to Argentina as his boyhood club Belgrano prepares to face River Plate in the Primera Division final.

The Spurs captain had been expected to be in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with the north Londoners looking to secure Premier League survival on the final day of the season against Everton.

Instead, Romero was pictured at Belgrano’s training ground on Thursday, and De Zerbi has confirmed the 28-year-old will not return to England ahead of this weekend.

“He spoke with the medical staff, and together they decided to go to Argentina to complete the rehab with the Argentine medical staff,” De Zerbi said in his pre-match press conference.

“We spoke last week. With me, he show always he wants to stay with us. He is already injured. I'm not stupid. If there is any player who thinks for himself, I can't be the same Roberto. But with Cuti I can’t say nothing.”

Romero has been a visible presence off the pitch during De Zerbi’s time in charge and could be seen celebrating on the touchline as Mathys Tel scored the opening goal against Leeds last Monday.

But his decision to return to his native Argentina, where he has been training with Belgrano in preparation for the World Cup, has not gone down well with Spurs supporters.

The World Cup winner, whose Spurs future is in doubt heading into the summer, has been widely criticised for deciding not to attend arguably the biggest game in the club’s history.

De Zerbi says he understands supporter frustration, but added that the decision was made with the medical staff as Romero steps up his recovery ahead of the World Cup.

“100 per cent I understand (supporter frustration),” he continued.

“The decision is with the medical staff. I have not time to lose energy, we have to be focused just on the game. We have players good enough to achieve our target.

“Not all leaders are the same. Ben Davies spoke to me today and asked if he could stay with the team. Romero is preparing for the World Cup.”

Asked if Romero has played his final game for Spurs, De Zerbi said: “I don't know ... After tomorrow there is no trophy, no bonus. There is more than that. There is the history of the club, the pride of the players and their families, the dignity of everyone.

“I can't lose energy on the future. I'm not stupid. I have clear ideas of what I want but there is a process.”

Tottenham supporters have labelled Cristian Romero as an embarrassment after reports emerged that he has travelled back to Argentina ahead of the club’s relegation showdown with Everton this weekend.

Romero, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, is said to have made the trip back to his native country to watch the Argentine Primera Division final between River Plate and Belgrano.

The Spurs captain, who is a boyhood fan of Belgrano, was then pictured at the club’s training ground in a video posted on their official Instagram page.

Romero has missed Spurs’ last five games through injury, but has been in attendance at the club’s last two home games.

He was in the stands as Roberto De Zerbi’s side were held to a 2-2 draw against Brighton, but was then seen passionately celebrating by the touchline as Mathys Tel scored the opening goal against Leeds last Monday.

It was expected that Romero would be in attendance for this weekend’s game against Everton, with Spurs knowing that a win would mathematically keep them in the Premier League.

However, Romero’s decision to fly to Argentina has not gone down well with supporters, who have taken to social media to voice their frustration.

The Spurs Express, a Tottenham news and updates account with over 239,000 followers, described the situation as “inexplicable and frankly extraordinary” in a post on the social media platform X.

“Inexplicable and frankly extraordinary that the club Captain of Tottenham Hotspur won’t be in attendance for one of the biggest games in the history of the Football Club,” read the post.

“Dereliction of duty is an understatement.”

Spurs Army, which has over 31,000 followers on X, added that it was an “embarrassment” to say that Romero had ever played for Spurs.

“It just gets worse and worse…

“Cristian Romero, it is an embarrassment to say that you wore the famous badge of #thfc.”

Tottenham content creator Ben Bowman also criticised the decision, questioning the message Romero was sending by not being in attendance for arguably the biggest game in Spurs’ recent history.

“I’ve stuck up for Romero a lot at times and it’s great how he’s called out the club and been a voice for us, but what kind of message does this send to your teammates and fans (that have backed you) before the one of the biggest games in our history? All together always my arse,” He said in reply to a post on X.

Tottenham face Everton this weekend with the chance to secure Premier League survival.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side sit perilously above the relegation zone, just two points clear of West Ham, who occupy the final place in the bottom three.

Spurs could have sealed their safety against Chelsea on Tuesday night, but fluffed their lines at Stamford Bridge, falling to a 2-1 defeat which keeps them in danger.

On the permutations side of things, Spurs know that a draw should be enough to cement their place in the top flight for another season, such is their goal difference swing on their London rivals.

West Ham have a goal difference of -22, with Spurs on -10. However, a victory would guarantee De Zerbi’s men survival, no matter what happens at the London Stadium against Leeds.

As for Everton, a late wobble has seen their European hopes fade away, but can still finish in the top half of the Premier League table for the first time in five years.

David Moyes’ side will not be an easy task for Spurs, despite their six-game winless run.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Tottenham vs Everton is scheduled for a 4pm BST kick-off on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The match will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham vs Everton team news

Seven key figures are all ruled out for Tottenham as De Zerbi endures the same injury fortunes that Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor did before him.

Xavi Simons, Cristian Romero, Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, and Ben Davies are all sidelined with long-term injuries.

The only hope he has of a fitness boost is Dominic Solanke, who could return from a hamstring injury.

As for the Toffees, they are without star loanee Jack Grealish, as well as first-choice centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Idrissa Gueye could be back after missing the game against Sunderland with an undisclosed problem.

Tottenham vs Everton prediction

It is do or die for Spurs. One final throw of the dice to avoid an embarrassing relegation from the top flight.

It is time for them to step up and live up to their ‘To dare is to do’ slogan, but beating Everton is no easy feat.

A draw would be enough to secure safety, but for piece of mind, a win should be all that the Spurs players are thinking about.

Draw, 1-1.

Spurs fans have been asked to join a protest against the club board after the final whistle of their final Premier League game of the season.

It is all on the line for Roberto de Zerbi's side as they host Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with safety from relegation still not assured.

To remain in the Premier League, Spurs need to take at least a point or hope for a slip-up from West Ham United, who are at home to Leeds.

Fan group Change For Tottenham have put out a statement saying that although they want the whole stadium to cheer the team to safety throughout the 90 minutes, all bets are off once the final whistle blows - regardless of the outcome.

At the end of 90 minutes, supporters are asked to join in on making their feelings clear about the club board.

They wrote in a statement: "This Sunday, for 90 minutes, we need to get behind the team.

"Nothing else matters. We need the points and the players need every one of us behind them for one last time this season.

"When the final whistle blows, regardless of the result, we need to stand up to the board for putting us in this perilous position.

"This isn't just a one off season, this is two disastrous league finishes back to back which has led to our Premier League status being decided on the last day of this campaign."

Banners are planned to go up in all three home sides of the stadium upon the final whistle, with Change For Spurs requesting that their fellow supporters join them to 'chant against the board'.

The sign off with a strong statement: "ENIC out. Vinai out. Lange out."

That refers to club majority owners ENIC Group, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, and director of football Johan Lange.

Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League last season but still qualified for the Champions League thanks to winning the Europa League.

Everything you need to know about the new Tottenham Hotspur kits for the 2026-27 season.

Initial image leaks and official design profiles for Tottenham Hotspur’s 2026-27 kits have already surfaced. Nike appears to be leaning into a distinct contrast philosophy for the upcoming season, balancing an incredibly traditional, clean look for home matches with a wildly futuristic, chaotic design for away matches.

GOAL takes a look at everything you need to know about Tottenham Hotspur's new 2026-27 kits, including the release dates, price, design inspiration and where fans can buy them.

The leaked 2026-27 home shirt is one for the traditionalists, stripping away some of the heavier colour blocking seen in previous seasons to focus on a crisp, clean aesthetic. The base is predominantly Lilywhite, featuring navy blue accents for the side panels, sleeve cuffs, and the Nike Swoosh.

The standout design feature is a highly subtle, tonal diagonal striping running across the torso, which is directly inspired by Spurs' famous mid-1980s Hummel kits. To complete the look, the traditional cockerel crest sits plainly on the left chest, and the bright red AIA sponsor logo remains the centrepiece, marking the final stretch of their long-term main sponsorship deal.

In stark contrast to the minimalist home kit, the leaked 2026-27 away shirt introduces an incredibly vibrant and chaotic look. Nike has utilised a deep navy Obsidian base for the torso, but has completely covered the front panel in a high-energy, digital graphic pattern. This pattern consists of sharp, jagged diagonal lines that glow in neon shades of electric pink, purple, and bright orange, creating a high-speed, futuristic light effect.

To maintain clarity against such a busy background, the Spurs crest, Nike Swoosh, and AIA sponsor logos are all rendered in stark, solid white, while the upper back of the shirt remains solid navy to ensure player names and numbers are easily legible.

While specific visual mockups for the third kit are still tightly guarded, initial information suggests it will follow Nike's upcoming elite team directive, likely leaning into retro templates or alternative colourways.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says 'never' saw signs of relegation battle

Tottenham Hotspur’s chairman said he “never” saw signs the club would end up fighting relegation.

Daniel Levy reflected on Tottenham’s recent struggles during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.

He was made a CBE by the Prince of Wales for his work supporting education, health and social inclusion and creating jobs through the construction of the stadium.

Mr Levy said the prospect of relegation was never considered during his time as chairman, even during the construction of the club’s £1 billion stadium.

Spurs currently sit just two points above the drop zone.

He said: "Never, no, not in a million years.

"Relegation was not something we ever considered."

After 36 games, Spurs have secured 38 points and only claimed their first league win of 2026 on April 25.

He said: "Emptiness… but I’m optimistic that we will remain in the Premier League."

Despite recent form, he said: "It’s in my blood."

Mr Levy has led the club for 24 years, making him the Premier League’s longest-serving chairman.

He has faced criticism from some Spurs supporters for prioritising commercial growth over footballing success.

He said: "What I would have hoped for is winning the Premier League, winning the Champions League… easier said than done."

During his investiture, Mr Levy spoke with Prince William about Aston Villa, the Prince of Wales’ favoured team.

He said: "I thanked him for allowing us (Tottenham) to beat Aston Villa when we played them a few weeks ago.

"He wished us luck the rest of the season, very much hoping that Tottenham survives in the Premier League.

"I think Tottenham fans should be proud that the club has made such a fantastic contribution to the local population."

Tottenham two points above relegation zone after being held at home by Leeds

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel went from hero to zero after he gave away a reckless penalty following his opener in a 1-1 draw with Leeds to leave his team mired in relegation trouble.

Arsenal’s controversial 1-0 victory at 18th-placed West Ham on Sunday provided a pre-match boost for both clubs and Spurs were set to go four points clear of the relegation zone when Tel produced a wonderful 50th-minute opener.

It was followed by a moment of madness from the young forward after Tel caught Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu in the face with an overhead kick clearance after 69 minutes.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin emphatically converted the spot-kick to set up a grandstand finish where Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi turned to James Maddison, who made his first competitive appearance in 12 months after a serious knee injury.

There would be no winning goal, though, after Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky thwarted Sean Longstaff’s powerful stoppage-time strike before a late penalty appeal for Lukas Nmecha’s tackle on Maddison was turned down to leave Tottenham only two points above the bottom three.

A dramatic finale at London Stadium on Sunday benefited both Tottenham and Leeds, with the visitors able to kick-off with another season in the Premier League guaranteed.

Spurs still required points and despite a raucous welcome a disjointed start followed, with nervous energy increased by Tel’s unnecessary lobbed pass across the face of his own penalty area.

Kinsky was called into action with 21 minutes played when Leeds forward Brenden Aaronson picked out ex-home defender Joe Rodon, but his header was brilliantly stopped on the goal-line by the keeper.

With De Zerbi constantly issuing instructions on the touchline, Spurs sparked into life, with Tel able to squeeze between two defenders before his shot was deflected over.

Richarlison tested Karl Darlow next before the Leeds goalkeeper was penalised for holding onto the ball too long, but Pedro Porro and Conor Gallagher could not fire on target from the resulting corner.

Joao Palhinha lifted over shortly afterwards before Rodrigo Bentancur headed wide, but Leeds finished the half strongly when Ao Tanaka sliced off target before Tottenham survived a penalty shout for Destiny Udogie’s collision with Calvert-Lewin, who was crucially ruled offside.

Spurs built on that close call and a moment of magic from Tel provided the breakthrough in the 50th minute.

Porro’s corner was cleared out to Tel, who took a touch and produced a wonderful curled finish into the top corner for his fourth goal of the campaign.

It should have been 2-0 when Randal Kolo Muani got in behind and teed up Richarlison, but he blazed over.

Daniel Farke reacted with Nmecha and Wilfried Gnonto sent on and with 21 minutes left, Leeds received a gift of a spot-kick from Tottenham scorer Tel.

After Spurs dealt with the initial ball into the area, Tel’s attempted acrobatic clearance caught the face of Ampadu and even though referee Jarred Gillett waved play on, a penalty was awarded after a lengthy VAR check and pitchside monitor review.

Calvert-Lewin drilled into the bottom corner for his 14th goal of an excellent season to bring Tottenham right back into a survival battle.

De Zerbi turned to his bench and introduced Maddison with five minutes left, but during a frantic period of stoppage time, Kinsky brilliantly thwarted Longstaff before Maddison had strong penalty appeals waved away after a coming together with Nmecha to ensure the spoils were shared.

Leeds draw leaves Spurs deep in relegation peril

Mathys Tel was the hero and villain as Tottenham drew 1-1 at home against Leeds on Monday -- a result that leaves their Premier League future hanging in the balance.

The Frenchman broke the deadlock early in the second half to ease the tension at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but then gave away a penalty with a wild attempted clearance.

Spurs are now two points clear of West Ham, who were denied a stoppage-time equaliser by VAR on Sunday in a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal -- a potentially season-defining decision at both ends of the table.

That result at the London Stadium ensured that Leeds and Nottingham Forest were safe from relegation while Wolves and Burnley have already been relegated.

Tottenham did not have it all their own way against Daniel Farke's team in London as they chased just their third league win at home all season.

Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky got down smartly to his right to stop Joe Rodon's header on the line in the 21st minute.

At the other end, Joao Palhinha fired over from close range after surging into the penalty box as Spurs' shot count climbed but the game was goalless at the break.

Tottenham broke the deadlock five minutes after the restart when Tel controlled the ball instantly after it fell to him following a Pedro Porro corner.

The Frenchman picked his spot, curling the ball past a diving Karl Darlow.

But with about 20 minutes of normal time to go, Tel attempted an overhead kick to clear the ball from his own penalty area, making contact with the head of the onrushing Ethan Ampadu.

Referee Jarred Gillett ruled that it was a penalty after a VAR check and Dominic Calvert-Lewin made no mistake.

James Maddison was given a rousing welcome by the home crowd when he was introduced as a late substitute -- his first match of the season after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Then the referee signalled 13 minutes of added time -- a decision that lifted the home crowd further.

Kinsky produced a remarkable save in the 98th minute from point-blank range to deny Sean Longstaff, who had another clear chance moments later.

The point lifts Spurs to 38 points -- two clear of West Ham, who are in 18th spot and with an inferior goal difference.

When Roberto De Zerbi was appointed as Spurs boss at end of March to replace sacked interim boss Igor Tudor, Tottenham had gone 13 league games without a win, dating back to December.

The Italian -- the third manager during an injury-blighted and shambolic season -- was tasked with saving the club from a first relegation since 1977.

His reign started with a defeat at Sunderland and a frustrating home draw against Brighton.

But Palhinha's late winner at Wolves infused the team with belief and Spurs went on to beat high-flying Aston Villa in their next game.

Spurs still have potentially tough games to come against Chelsea and Everton while West Ham face Newcastle and Leeds.
