Description

Thomas Frank and Spurs slipped to another defeat at home, this one a 2-1 loss to Fulham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday that saw the side lustily booed at halftime and the final whistle.

MORE — Thomas Frank speaks on home boos, attacking woes

Kenny Tete scored in the fourth minute and Harry Wilson feasted on a Guglielmo Vicario gaffe two minutes later as the visitors built a 2-0 halftime lead in North London.

Mohammed Kudus conjured a second-half goal for Spurs whose play improved after a trio of 60th-minute subs, but a second goal was nowhere to be found as Fulham swallowed up or blocked numerous Tottenham Hotspur crosses.

WATCH — Tottenham Hotspur v Fulham full match replay

Fulham have now won three of their last four Premier League matches and this is their first away league win of the season. The Cottagers are onto 17 points, which is good for 15th place but just three points off sixth.

Spurs stay in 10th place as the best of five teams on 18 points.

Fulham’s confident playmakers show Spurs what they’re missing

Tottenham Hotspur crafted their own demise Saturday with early errors, but their failure to come back and claim at least a point was down to their creators or lack thereof. Part of that lays at the feet of Thomas Frank, who left some bright pieces on the bench and watched as Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus struggled early. Kudus scored but was otherwise quite quiet. An energetic Randal Kolo Muani was industrious but couldn’t generate his own danger while the middle of the park was so tame that Spurs spent the first hour or so just plugging cross after cross into an expectant Fulham back line. The introductions of Xavi Simons and Pape Matar Sarr changed things as expected but it begs whether Frank knows his best XI. Dejan Kulusevski simply could not be missed more.

Fulham veteran Alex Iwobi acknowledged after the game that Samu Chukwueze’s nickname is “Chukmagic” and he was part of a forward-thinking Cottagers attack that could’ve scored four or five on another day (Micky van de Ven had at least two goal-thwarting interventions for Spurs). Josh King and Harry Wilson were lively and Raul Jimenez a heat-seeking missile at center forward, and Marco Silva got decent play from Emile Smith Rowe and Kevin off the bench. Fulham may be limited by its center forward play this season with Jimenez aged 34 and Rodrigo Muniz out for months, but it looks set to create at a mid-table or better level.

What’s next?

Spurs go to Newcastle on Tuesday, then host Brentford on Saturday.

Fulham host Manchester City at 2:30pm ET Tuesday before welcoming Crystal Palace to Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham live updates — by Nick Mendola

And one more Fulham move

Timothy Castagne will bring more defense as Alex Iwobi exits the game in the 87th minute.

Spurs make one more move

Ndogie leaves in favor of a forward: Mathys Tel.

More subs

Pape Sarr replaces Bergvall for Spurs, and soon after Fulham remove Chukwueze for Kevin.

Fulham subs

Sasa Lukic and Emile Smith Rowe come into the fray for Joshua King and Harry Wilson, the latter walking with a bit of a limp.

Spurs close again!

Lucas Bergvall runs to the near post and flicks a corner kick back across goal, and it’s just pushed away from the upper 90.

Tottenham Hotspur looking their best of the day.

Tottenham Hotspur make three subs

Off go Joao Palhinha, Richarlison, and Archie Gray for Wilson Odobert, Xavi Simons, and Rodrigo Bentancur in the 60th minute.

Mohammed Kudus goal — Spurs 1-2 Fulham

He had done almost nothing before this, but Mohammed Kudus has lashed Spurs back into the game with a powerful rip.

Spurs come close

A quiet first 11 minutes for Spurs comes to life as Pedro Porro’s cross from the right is nearly turned inside the post by a diving Randal Kolo Muani.

Spurs soon win a corner

Halftime — Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Fulham

Spurs have two shot attempts which account for an xG total of 0.01 despite 60% of the ball.

Fulham are in the catbird seat up two as visitors, just hanging out in their 18 heading crosses clear of the box or blocking them out of play.

To say that Thomas Frank’s attacking plan is not working is an understatement. Xavi Simons, Brennan Johnson, Mathys Tel, and Wilson Odobert are among those on the bench.

Micky van de Ven yellow card

The big back drops Joachim Andersen with a flying hip, and Fulham to a man seem displeased with the Dutchman.

It’ll only be a yellow.

Unreal tackle

Chukwueze cuts past Pedro Porro and is onto the doorstep, only to see Spurs bailed out by a tremendous sliding challenge from Micky van de Ven.

Harry Wilson goal — Spurs 0-2 Fulham

What’s going on here?

Guglielmo Vicario goes for a stroll, winning the ball to seemingly avert Fulham’s danger of doubling their lead.

Somehow, he doesn’t slam the ball into the seats, Fulham recover it and Harry Wilson’s sweet left peg curls a cross inside the yawning frame.

Kenny Tete goal — Spurs 0-1 Fulham

The Fulham back runs onto a loose ball outside the 18 and hammers a low shot that skips behind the front leg of Destiny Udogie and then turns hard off the back leg to leave Guglielmo Vicario with very little hope.

Tottenham Hotspur lineup

Vicario, Udogie, Danso, Van de Ven, Porro, Palhinha, Gray, Bergvall, Kudus, Kolo Muani, Richarlison

Fulham lineup

Leno, Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Sessegnon, Berge, Iwobi, King, Wilson, Chukwueze, Jimenez

Spurs vs Fulham preview — by Joe Prince-Wright

After being hammered 4-1 at bitter rivals Arsenal last Sunday, Frank’s side were better in attack in midweek but still lost 5-3 at PSG. The balance is off for Spurs and perhaps that is predictable given all of the attacking players they are missing through injury. But Frank is under pressure from Spurs fans due to the clunky play on the ball and he could really do with a big home win to calm things down after just one win in their last six games in all competitions.

Fulham won 1-0 at home against Sunderland last weekend and two home wins in a row has eased fears they will get sucked into the relegation battle this season. Marco Silva’s side have to improve away from home, as they’ve yet to win away this season and have lost five of their six games on the road.

Tottenham Hotspur team news, focus

Spurs are without Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, and Yves Bissouma, while captain and star center back Cristian Romero is suspended for this game. That means Kevin Danso will likely start alongside Micky van de Ven in defense, while Randal Kolo Muani has probably played himself into the starting lineup after two goals and an assist in the defeat at PSG in midweek. Destiny Udogie, Joao Palhinha, and Xavi Simons could all come in to start after being on the bench in midweek.

Fulham team news, focus

Rodrigo Muniz is out until February, which is a big blow, but Fulham’s captain and USMNT star left back Antonee Robinson is close to a return. Sasa Lukic is back from suspension so that is a huge bonus in midfield, too. Fulham have been in games all season long but have struggled to score goals and Silva will hope Raul Jimenez grabbing the winner last weekend against Sunderland will boost his confidence and see him go on a scoring run.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham prediction

Spurs will need to be patient but if things click they can hurt Fulham and have some attacking players finding a bit of form. Expect a narrow win for the hosts. Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Fulham.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur player ratings: Who joins Eberechi Eze as stars of the North London derby? - NBC Sports
Description

Arsenal have grown their Premier League table lead to six in the best way possible — smashing their North London derby rivals down a peg.

MORE — Recap, highlights | Arteta reaction | Frank, Vicario reaction

Thomas Frank’s men will have a lot of soul-searching to do after being out-classed by the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, as Spurs showed up for a fight but took too long to bring their football.

So who starred, and who slumped?

Arsenal player ratings from North London derby

David Raya: 5.5 — Wasn’t asked to do anything, really, then got lobbed from 40 yards off a bad Zubimendi giveaway.

Jurrien Timber: 7.5 — Three shots, an assist, and status of “always in the right place.”

William Saliba: 7 — Passed the ball well and had little else to do.

Piero Hincapie (Off 88'): 7 — Same basic day as Saliba. His aerial prowess stood out (or leapt out) today.

Riccardo Calafiori: 7.5 — Excellent day, as usual. They’re a different team with him patrolling the left and left-central parts of the field.

Declan Rice: 8 — Three created chances including a galactic-mind first touch to set up Eze’s first. Nearly scored within the first five minutes on a marvelous side volley. Docking him a full point for a pretty classless foul and taunt of Xavi Simons late.

Martin Zubimendi: 5.5 — Wasn’t particularly poor but his giveaway leading to Richarlison’s goal showed a shocking lack of awareness given awareness is his game.

Eberechi Eze: 10 — Yep, perfect. He scored three times on an expected goals of 0.59 and honestly was a whisker from grabbing a fourth. Drew two fouls including one for a dangerous free kick.

Bukayo Saka: 8 — Three shots and four drawn fouls while joining Timber in making Spurs’ left side feel immense anxiety.

Leandro Trossard (Off 78'): 8 — Feast or famine from the man who loves a big stage, and feasted Sunday with a goal and an assist.

Mikel Merino (Off 88'): 7.5 — Stuck into a game-high 23 duels, this ‘center forward’ did his best work with a gorgeous pass to Trossard from 10 yards outside the 18.

Subs

Noni Madueke (On 78'): N/A

Ethan Nwaneri (On 88'): N/A

Cristian Mosquera (On 88'): N/A

Myles Lewis-Skelly (On 90'): N/A

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings from North London derby

Guglielmo Vicario: 5.5 — A tremendous early save and the first goal was deflected but you’d like to see him get to one of Eze’s first two goals. The third was unstoppable and Vicario made a nice save to deny the midfielder a fourth.

Djed Spence: 6 — Neither he nor Danso were quick enough on Trossard’s decisive run to the opener.

Micky van de Ven: 4.5 — An atypically poor day on a huge stage. Wasn’t helped much by his mates, though.

Cristian Romero: 5 — Good in the air but joins his defensive mates in ruing all four goals coming in the heart of the Spurs third.

Kevin Danso (Off HT): 6 — A victim of the tactical switch at halftime, the Austrian defended well in his 45 minutes but could’ve been better read Trossard’s run to meet Merino’s assist on the opener.

Destiny Udogie: 6.5 — One of a few players to drive play at Arsenal.

Joao Palhinha: 7 — Both he and Bentancur had a chance to stop Eze’s first goal from becoming a shot and did not succeed, but his seven tackles and 10 ground duels won should serve to show his commitment to the game even in a blowout.

Rodrigo Bentancur: 5 — Passed the ball well but did little else to help Spurs get a foothold in the midfield.

Mohammed Kudus: 5 — A step slow to stay with Eze on Arsenal’s third goal and it was the first time we’d noticed him during the game.

Wilson Odobert: 5 — Couldn’t find his way into the game.

Richarlison: 6.5 — He worked a full shift and delivered on his only chance with that 45-yard lob of Raya.

Tottenham Hotspur reaction — Thomas Frank speaks, Guglielmo Vicario apologizes as Spurs ‘did not fight’

Thomas Frank reaction — Tottenham Hotspur boss speaks after North London derby disappointment - NBC Sports
Description

Thomas Frank’s North London derby plan appeared to come together only to come apart in a hurry as his Tottenham Hotspur fell 4-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

And Guglielmo Vicario has spoken out with anger and honestly after the game. The goalkeeper says it wasn’t about tactics, just that Spurs ‘did not fight.’

MORE — Arsenal vs Spurs recap, highlights | Player ratings

Tottenham Hotspur’s boss prepared a hardy and aggressive defensive plan and looked to have flustered Arsenal’s injury-riddled attack aside from an early connection from Eberechi Eze to Declan Rice which was well-saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

But Leandro Trossard’s deflected strike opened Arsenal’s account in the 36th minute before Eberechi Eze added to the advantage before and right after halftime.

Richarlison’s audacious and opportunistic goal from distance after Joao Palhinha cued an Arsenal turnover put Spurs back into the game but it was merely cosmetic as Frank’s men struggled to get near David Raya’s goal.

Thomas Frank reaction — Spurs boss speaks after North London derby disappointment

Thoughts on the game? “I think it’s extremely painful. I can’t talk away from that. It was a bad performance. It was the complete opposite of the intention. We can only apologize to the fans for this performance.”

Not enough fight, character in the game? “You can always can say that on the day. I don’t like that because I’ve seen a lot of character and fight in this team. But I think one big thing we didn’t do well enough is win duels. We can call that whatever you want, but we didn’t win duels.”

The formation worked for a while but then dropped off and you made a change: “I tried to play a 5-4-1. I will always take responsibility in the end to change the system. We changed at halftime to 4-2-3-1. My view is no matter what formation we play, it we don’t have the duels and intensity, we don’t win.”

What went wrong on the goals? “The goals I’d like to see more in detail. The whole game I need to look through tonight and that will be a painful watch. The main bit was we were not aggressive and stepping forward in duels.”

Attacking ideas in the final third are a problem? “It’s fair to say it’s an ongoing thing that we’re working hard on with everything we can. It hasn’t looked good today. It didn’t look for Chelsea. Other games, it’s looked better. But today it did not look good.”

Guglielmo Vicario reaction — Spurs boss speaks after North London derby disappointment

Thoughts on the loss? “Very bad night for us. First of all we have to apologize to those who traveled to see us because they expect to see us fight. Tonight we did not fight as a collective. Tonight is a very bad defeat but we have to stick together because we know what we have to address. We have to believe much more in ourselves. Tonight we didn’t show anything of which we’re capable. Emotions are higher when you lose a derby like that but we need to keep cool heads and apologize to the people who traveled today because we cannot have a performance like that.”

Why wouldn’t your team be ready for a North London derby? “I don’t know the answer, probably many things. I think we waited a little bit too long to get into the game. We were a bit too passive. The game plan was a little different and maybe we didn’t recognize the situations to pressure them and tonight we did not fight.”

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur: ‘The set-piece derby’ as rivals rely on marginal gains

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur: ‘The set-piece derby’ as rivals rely on marginal gains - NBC Sports
Description

No team has scored more set-piece goals than Arsenal in the Premier League this season. No team has conceded fewer set-piece goals than Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The ‘set-piece derby’ is here. Expect ‘set-piece again, ole, ole!’ to be sung at the Emirates this Sunday in the north London derby. But from the home or away end?

MORE — Premier League table

Arsenal have scored the most goals from corners (8) and Spurs have scored the second most (6) this season, while these rivals also lead the Premier League in headed goals with seven and six respectively and Arsenal have had a league-leading 75 corners, with Spurs attempting 67.

As we will see in an intriguing north London derby, set pieces are hugely important to both Mikel Arteta and Thomas Frank and both are leaning heavily on them to achieve their respective goals of trophies and a top four finish this season. Despite plenty of key injuries (again) Arsenal sit top of the Premier League and have a four-point lead over Man City in second, with Spurs in fifth as teething issues with their attack and home form has hampered Frank’s first few months in charge.

This huge north London derby is going to be decided by the small margins. Just the way both Arteta and Frank like it. The Spiderman meme is apt when talking about these two managers.

Arsenal’s incredible set-piece dominance won’t scare Frank

Set pieces have become so important to Arsenal in recent seasons as they’ve dominated the Premier League in terms of creating chances, and scoring, from corners, long throws and free kicks. Nobody is close to them. No Premier League team has scored a higher percentage of their goals (50 percent) from set-pieces this season than Arsenal and four of their last six goals against Spurs have come from corners. Even if their main menace when attacking set pieces, Gabriel, is out injured for Sunday’s clash, Arsenal’s entire team will continue to cause chaos and smell blood when a ball is flung in.

If there’s one manager who won’t be intimidated by Arsenal’s set-piece expertise it’s Frank. The Dane brought set-pieces back into fashion in a big way during his hugely successful spell at Brentford, but Arteta and Arsenal have made set-pieces sexy again. Set-piece coaches like Arsenal’s Nicolas Jover are now revered across the game. It surely won’t be long until they have their own technical area on the sidelines to dictate the increasingly important moments which so often decide games.

Even if Frank’s first few months at Spurs haven’t seen his side score as many from set-pieces as he would like (they’re still ranked fifth in the PL in terms of goals scored) his Spurs side have the best record when it comes to defending set-pieces this season as they’ve conceded just twice. That is a huge improvement on last season and Frank’s pragmatism is a big reason he was hired.

Frank is the best head coach in the Premier League at prioritizing marginal gains, especially from set pieces, and he has always made it a huge focus. Look at what he did with Brentford. He closed the clear huge financial gap holding them back by focusing heavily on these situations and the rest of the Premier League took notice.

Hope for away-day specialists Spurs?

And there is plenty of optimism for Spurs despite their awful record in this recent fixture. Yes, Arsenal have won five of their last six league games against Spurs, with Spurs winning just one of their last 32 Premier League away trips to Arsenal, but Spurs go into this game as the away-day specialists in the Premier League.

This season they have the best away record in the Premier League with 13 points won from a possible 15 and they’ve scored the most (12) and conceded the fewest (3) on their travels.

But history has taught Spurs fans to be more cautious against Arsenal than any other opponent. Not just because it’s their biggest rival but because they’ve dropped more points (48) from winning positions against Arsenal than any team in Premier League history has done against a single opponent.

However many times the lead changes or whatever the result is on Sunday, it’s a very safe bet that a set-piece goal will be pivotal in this version of the north London derby.

Description

Injuries have ravaged both sides ahead of Sunday’s north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, but the show must go on as the Gunners chase their first Premier League title since 2004 and Spurs seek Champions League qualification once again.

MORE — Preview, prediction, how to watch Man City v Liverpool

Arsenal are four points clear of the field after 11 games thanks to an incredibly deep squad of world-class talent. Captain Martin Odegaard hasn’t played a minute since Oct. 4 (just 204 minutes in the PL this season), thrusting summer signing Eberechi Eze (1 goal, 2 assists) into the spotlight even more than his $80-million price tag would have done. Leandro Trossard (2 goals, 2 assists) has picked up the slack in the wake of Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke’s injuries have handicapped them thus far (1 goal, 0 assists between). And that’s the benefit of a squad as deep as Mikel Arteta has cultivated six years into his tenure.

On the other side, Thomas Frank is three months into the job of trying to turn Ange Postecoglou’s Europa League winners into a more stable, consistent competitor for the long term. 19-year-old Lucas Bergvall is the only fit midfielder with an attacking bone in his body, yet Spurs are punching above their weight to an increased emphasis on set pieces. Both sides have prioritized dead-ball opportunities (and will continue to do so on Sunday), but can Spurs create scoring chances any other way? Magic 8-ball says, “Not looking good.”

Description

The final international break of 2025 is done and dusted, and what a way for the Premier League to return with Arsenal hosting Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby on Sunday (11:30 am ET).

WATCH — Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Gunners (26 points) are top of the table after 11 games, four points clear of Manchester City and eight above defending champions Liverpool (currently in 8th place), the only side to Mikel Arteta’s men in any competition this season. But injuries are starting to pile up for Arsenal and perhaps the first cracks came to light just before the break, when they conceded a stoppage-time equalizer and drew newly promoted Sunderland 2-2. A handful of key attackers could be available off the bench this weekend, as Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke are all close to returning.

Speaking of the walking wounded, Spurs are once again atop the injury list with four central midfielders and two strikers unavailable for Thomas Frank’s suddenly shorthanded side. Predictably, Spurs have struggled to create scoring chances (11.0 xG from 11 games, 6th-lowest) and, much like Arsenal, made the most of set pieces to cobble together the PL’s 4th-best attacking record (19 goals). Spurs have scored six times from set pieces thus far, to Arsenal’s eye-popping tally of 10 (half of their 20 on the season).

Description

The Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United player ratings were intriguing to dish out as a thriller played out in north London.

MORE — Recap, video highlights

There were some superb individual displays and moments between two very evenly-matched teams, and a draw was probably a fair result when all is said and done.

Below are the Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United player ratings out of 10, with analysis on how they got on.

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings

Guglielmo Vicario: 6 - Could he have done more on both headers? De Ligt’s late equalizer will haunt him.

Pedro Porro: 5 - Saw plenty of the ball but the usual quality just wasn’t there on his crosses.

Cristian Romero: 6 - Could have scored with a difficult flick in the second half. Had to come off late on with an injury.

Micky van de Ven: 7 - No marauding runs forward but some great defending, including a wonderful last-ditch tackle to deny Sesko.

Djed Spence: 5 - Barely had the chance to get forward and sloppy on the ball.

Pape Matar Sarr: 6 - Buzzed around in midfield and never gave United a moment of peace.

Joao Palhinha: 6 - Had a shot on goal which was saved well and was his usual solid self in midfield.

Brennan Johnson: 6 - Lively throughout. Tried to force the issue and scored but was just offside.

Xavi Simons: 6 - Tried his best to get on the turn and get Spurs going in attack but was crowded out and bullied often. Overall, he tried to make things happen. Fans didn’t like it when he was subbed off late on.

Richarlison: 5 - Completely missed his header with Spurs’ best chance of the first half. Some sloppy passes but then flicked home a header late on as he thought he had won it.

Randal Kolo Muani: 5 - Bit harsh to be hooked at half time but it wasn’t really working as he and Richarlison made the same runs and had very little service.

Substitutions

Wilson Odobert: 8 - Brilliant after coming on at the break as his shot was flicked in by Richarlison.

Destiny Udogie: 8 - Superb with Odobert down the left and his cross set up Tel for Spurs’ opener.

Mathys Tel: 7 - Lovely turn and finish for his goal.

Rodrigo Bentancur: N/A

Kevin Danso: N/A

Manchester United player ratings

Senne Lammens: 8 - Made two great saves at the start of the second half from Romero and Palhinha and looks so relaxed.

Matthijs de Ligt: 7 - Unlucky with the deflection on Tel’s goal but popped up with a towering header at the back post in the 96th minute to grab a draw.

Harry Maguire: 7 - Another solid display. Had to come off with what looked like an injury to his right hamstring.

Luke Shaw: 7 - Solid and reliable. Didn’t get forward much but did the simple things well.

Noussair Mazraoui: 6 - Only just back from injury and getting up to speed. He was okay. Subbed off early in the second half.

Casemiro: 7 - His usual combative self but subbed off in the second half and United missed him in midfield as they conceded twice.

Bruno Fernandes: - Couldn’t get on the ball as much as he would like but was always positive when he did have it.

Patrick Dorgu: 8 - Excellent display on the left. Surged forward but often had nobody really supporting him. Won plenty of free kicks.

Bryan Mbeumo: 7 - Took his goal really well and never stopped running. A bit isolated in the second half.

Amad Diallo: 8 - Lovely cross for Mbeumo’s goal and he was very dangerous in a more advance role.

Matheus Cunha: 6 - Did okay, but never really got into the game and was subbed off in the second half.

Mbeumo 32'

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United live updates! — By Joe Prince-Wright

Odobert on for Kolo Muani

Spurs make a half time sub with Wilson Odobert on for Randal Kolo Muani. Disappointing display from Kolo Muani. Odobert will be tasked with getting at United and being more direct.

Half time: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Manchester United

A few boos from the home fans as the half time whistle goes and that was pretty turgid from Spurs. Man United looked more confidence and lively when they got the ball into the final third and Mbeumo’s header is the difference. Say it quietly, but as it stands Man United sit second in the Premier league table.

Bryan Mbeumo heads home!

That has been coming, as Spurs are messing around with it at the back and can’t get out. Cunha then plays in Amad and he clips a lovely cross to the back post which Mbeumo heads home. He loves a goal against Spurs, with five goals in nine against them. His old boss Thomas Frank won’t be happy with that Spurs defending...

Cunha denied!

Matheus Cunha somehow gets it past Cristian Romero and his shot is on target but Sarr is back for Spurs and deflects the shot away for a corner, which comes to nothing despite a few handball shouts on Richarlison. United starting to sustain some pressure now.

Richarlison misses a header... completely

Great cross in from the right from Johnson and Richarlison has a free header, 12 yards out, but he totally misses the ball. He can’t believe it. Neither can every single Spurs fans on the planet.

Big chance for Mbeumo!

Bruno Fernandes with a lovely pass through to Bryan Mbeumo but he decides to cross the ball rather than shoot. The offside flag is up but replays show Mbeumo was probably onside. Lovely play from United there.

Tottenham Hotspur lineup

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United preview

Spurs were beaten and battered by Chelsea right there on their home turf last weekend, in what was easily the worst performance of Thomas Frank’s short tenure. Spurs attempted just three shots (all by Mohammed Kudus) for a grand total of 0.10 xG. The attack has been disjointed from the opening day of the season, with the occasional exception being Kudus, and Spurs currently rank in the bottom-third of the PL for xG (1.01 per game). However, Frank has fixed so much of what was wrong with Spurs at the other end of the field (2nd-fewest goal conceded, with 8 in 10 games).

Ruben Amorim has gone the other direction in his first full season at Man United, overseeing one of the league’s best attacks (5th-most goals scored, 17) and one of the league’s leakiest defenses (6th-most conceded, 16) — and the Red Devils have the xG and xGA numbers to prove it.
