Bolton Wanderers interested in Jamie Donley loan from Spurs
The Northern Ireland international has been on loan in the Championship with Stoke City this season but is set to be recalled by Spurs and sent out to League One.
A number of clubs are understood to have enquired about the 20-year-old but Bolton are in the driving seat, according to journalist Alan Nixon, who reported the interest on his Patreon this morning.
Wanderers are remaining tight-lipped – but Steven Schumacher admitted after Monday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Mansfield Town that he may need to find some extra quality in the January window to keep his side in the hunt for automatic promotion.
Donley had a breakout season with Leyton Orient in League One during 2024/25, helping them into the play-off final, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists in 52 appearances for Richie Wellens’ side.
His loan move to Stoke has not worked out as planned, however, and he has drawn a blank in the six appearances he has made this term, only four of which have been in the league.
The Antrim-born midfielder did score the winner for his country against Luxembourg, however, and has been part of Michael O’Neill’s set-up with Bolton skipper Eoin Toal since March, when he applied to switch allegiance from England.
Bolton have used a few different players in the attacking midfield slot including Kyle Dempsey, Joel Randall, Marcus Forss and John McAtee, but tangible returns have been thin on the ground and they may now see Donley as an option which can boost their firepower in the New Year.
His age would also mean he does not count against the squad quota, although with five players already on loan – Mason Burstow, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Ibrahim Cissoko, Teddy Sharman-Lowe and Marcus Forss – only five would be able to be used at any one time in the first team squad.
Donley has made three substitute appearances in the Premier League and is perhaps best known for a long-range effort against Manchester City for Leyton Orient in the FA Cup last season, which cannoned off the bar and into the net via keeper Stefan Ortega.
