Coventry City news from CoventryLive as Frank Lampard secures the services of South Korean from Tottenham

Coventry City have completed a deal to take forward Yang Min-Hyeok on loan from Premier League Tottenham Hotspur.

The deal sees the 19-year-old recalled from a season-long spell at relegation battlers Portsmouth and redirected to automatic promotion chasing Sky Blues for the second half of the campaign.

The South Korean has spent the last five months at Fratton Park, providing three goals and one assist in 15 league games, mostly on the left of John Mousinho’s team.

Frank Lampard has been keen to add strength in depth to the wings and Min-Hyeok is expected to compete with and provide back-up to Ephron Mason-Clark on the left of City's attack.

"I'm very happy and excited to join a club with such strong traditions and history," said Min-Hyeok.

"When I played against Coventry, I really felt the positive atmosphere within the team, and that made me even more excited about becoming part of this club.

"The head coach explained very clearly how he plans to use me and how I could fit into the team, which gave me a lot of confidence that this is the right place for me.

"I want to help the team achieve its goal and to do that, I need to adapt as quickly as possible, show my qualities on the pitch, and prove why I am here."

The South Korea international scored three times in 16 matches for Pompey, including a dramatic late winner against Charlton Athletic at the end of December.

He has two senior caps for South Korea and had a loan spell at Queens Park Rangers last season.

He signed for Spurs in July 2024 from Gangwon but immediately returned to the K League side to complete the 2024 campaign.

The 2024 season was a real eye-catching one for Min-Hyeok. He scored 12 goals as Gangwon finished second while he was also named the K League’s Young Player of the Year as well as becoming the youngest player to ever win the division’s Player of the Month award.

Coventry City are looking to add depth to Frank Lampard's squad to help them secure promotion to the Premier League

Coventry City have agreed to take Yang Min-hyeok on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano who claims a deal has been ‘agreed today’, one which would see the winger swap a relegation battle with Portsmouth for a promotion campaign with the Sky Blues.

The 19-year-old has spent the first half of the Championship campaign at Fratton Park providing three goals and one assist in 15 league games, mostly on the left of John Mousinho’s team.

The development, which looks increasingly likely, will come as a blow to Mousinho who before Christmas admitted Spurs have the option of terminating the loan but insisted he felt the winger would remain with Pompey.

That now seems like misplaced faith with Yang seemingly set to add to Frank Lampard’s wide options. Ephron Mason-Clark has been first choice when fit, with Brandon Thomas-Asante deputising well in his absence.

However, both players have missed time through injury this season and Lampard needs depth.

The South Korean spent time in the Gangwon FC youth set-up before signing a six-year deal with Tottenham in July 2024, he eventually made the move last January.

He finished off last season with Queens Park Rangers and won his first senior cap against Jordan last March. His second came against Bolivia in November.

This season he has had good periods for Portsmouth but has been displaced by the return to fitness of Josh Murphy and his last start came at Blackburn on December 13 when he was replaced at half-time.
