Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has spoken out about his dismissal from the BBC following allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

The 41-year-old former presenter of The One Show and football analyst on Match of the Day was let go by the broadcaster earlier this week. A complaint was lodged against Jenas last month concerning text messages he sent to a female colleague, prompting an internal investigation, reports the Mirror.

At 3.39pm on Thursday, Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski informed staff in an email: "I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC."

The BBC confirmed through a spokesperson: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting lineup."

Jenas, through his representative, commented: "Right now I can't talk about it. I can tell you I'm not happy - there are two sides to every story - and I'm going to be speaking with my lawyers on the issue".

The Mirror has disclosed that Jenas' termination is due to accusations of inappropriate behaviour with a female BBC employee. BBC News reports that the allegations involve digital communication, including text messages.

In addition to his recent broadcasting roles, Jenas was also the face of MOTDx, a now-discontinued show targeting younger viewers. Prior to his media career, he had a distinguished spell as a player at Tottenham, QPR and Newcastle and earned 21 caps for England's national team.

Jenas last featured on The One Show with Alex Jones on July 22 and was part of the Match of the Day panel on May 4. He also provided his expertise for the BBC during Euro 2024, serving as a co-commentator for Spain's semi-final win against France.

However, following an internal probe by the BBC initiated "a few weeks ago" due to concerns about Jenas' conduct, he has been discreetly dropped from the corporation's programming. Post-investigation, his contract was concluded.

It's believed that Kay-Jelski played a significant role throughout this ordeal. There's a prevailing sentiment that Jenas won't be returning to the BBC airwaves.

Amidst the unfolding story of his BBC exit, Jenas was already embracing a new challenge, taking up a presenter role on talkSPORT. Although Jenas has been a guest on the station before, this marked his debut as a lead presenter, joining another ex-Premier League star, Jermaine Pennant, to host the drive-time show.

Desiring to replace Lineker as the host of Match of the Day, Jenas has never hidden his ambition. Speaking in 2021 he expressed: "Match Of The Day is the biggest job on television, and if I ever got the opportunity of course I'd say yes.

"When Gary decides to call it a day, I'm sure the BBC will have a look around and decide who's the best fit for the job."

The Tottenham team Postecoglou must pick vs Everton

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to secure their first win of the season as they welcome Everton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.

Spurs created plenty of chances in their opening game at Leicester City but managed to come away with only a point after a poor second half at the King Power Stadium. During that second period, Tottenham lost Rodrigo Bentancur to a head injury and Pedro Porro went off late on after picking up a knock.

We asked our Spurs reporters Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest which starting XI they would select to face Everton on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alasdair Gold - Tottenham Hotspur correspondent

We will get a full update from Ange Postecoglou at his press conference on Friday afternoon but after the events on Monday night it would be a shock if Bentancur does not miss the match against Everton through the concussion protocol.

It could be too soon for Yves Bissouma to come back into the team and replace the Uruguayan after losing the trust of the Spurs boss, which would mean a first Premier League start for Archie Gray, who has impressed everyone inside the club and most importantly Postecoglou this summer.

Porro appeared to be involved in training in the club's latest video which would suggest that he is fine after the knock he took late on against Leicester.

Dejan Kulusevski deserves a start after being Spurs' best player in pre-season and that could come at the expense of Brennan Johnson, who struggled at the King Power stadium. Lucas Bergvall is also pushing closer and closer to a start in these early weeks of the season.

Gold's team: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Gray, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

Rob Guest - Football writer

Postecoglou needs to make a couple of changes to his Tottenham team for this weekend's game against Everton after the disappointment of Monday night at Leicester. The Spurs boss will be forced into one of those changes after Bentancur was on the end of nasty aerial collision late on and left the pitch on a stretcher.

Due to concussion protocol, the Uruguayan will miss out against the Toffees and that leaves Postecoglou with a decision to make over whether Gray or Bissouma comes in. Gray should be the one who starts on this occasion after a very good pre-season, with Bissouma having to bide his time before coming back into the starting XI following the ban the club imposed on him for the Leicester encounter.

In attack, Johnson should miss out after having no real impact in the final third at the King Power Stadium. Kulusevski's omission from the team was a huge shock but he must return against Everton as Spurs missed a technical player in attack who has an eye for a pass and can open up defences.

Guest's team: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Gray, Sarr, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

Time is starting to run out for clubs when it comes to finalising their summer transfer business. Tottenham and their Premier League rivals have until 11pm on Friday, August 30 to get deals over the line before the market closes until January.

It has been a very productive window for the club so far with plenty of incomings and outgoings taking place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Supporters will be hoping that the Lilywhites can bring in another fresh face or two before the deadline in order to give Ange Postecoglou the best possible squad to attack the first half of the 2024/25 season.

It could be a busy few days in north London when it comes to outgoings as Spurs still have a handful of players on the books who could head elsewhere. Permanent deals for a couple of players need to happen, with some of Tottenham's younger players also requiring loan moves to help their development and give them more experience of playing senior football on a regular basis.

In the latest episode of their podcast Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham, our Spurs correspondents Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest discuss what could happen in the final days of the transfer window ahead of next Friday's deadline. As Spurs have signed off a number of loan deals already, the pair also reflect on Jamie Donley's excellent start to his Leyton Orient loan spell and the challenge facing Dane Scarlett.

There is also some positive news regarding Alejo Veliz's Espanyol loan as the Argentine has now already played in one game more than double the amount of minutes he played in six appearances for Sevilla last campaign.

Jermaine Jenas has joined talkSPORT following his departure from the BBC. It's been revealed that Jenas, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, was recently let go from his BBC presenting duties.

A statement from the network confirmed: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up."

However, just minutes after the announcement, Jenas was on talkSPORT co-hosting the Drive show with ex-Liverpool footballer Jermaine Pennant.

Although Jenas has previously featured on talkSPORT as a guest, this marked his debut in a presenter capacity for the station.

Jenas had been one the BBC's rising stars, making regular appearances as a pundit on Match of the Day and The One Show, while also spearheading MOTDx, which ceased production last season.

Seen by many as a potential heir to Gary Lineker for the Match of the Day anchor role, Jenas' sudden exit came as a surprise when it was announced on Thursday.

A report in the Sun suggested Jenas had been sacked due to 'allegations of inappropriate behaviour', with his last The One Show appearance with Alex Jones coming on July 22.

Jenas was also recently involved in the BBC's coverage of Euro 2024 and he remains a familiar face on Formula E broadcasts.

Detailing his new gig, he confessed his lack of familiarity with the sport on That Peter Crouch Podcast, revealing: "I always loved Formula One and this particular job came about because FE is a brand-new sport, it's only nine or ten years old.

"It's a sport that revolves around sustainability and the excitement as well. When they asked me to do it, I was like, 'Look I've never seen this racing before. As much as I love F1, I'm going to have to do a lot of research and work into FE.'

"They were like, 'That's what we want. It's a brand-new sport, no one knows enough about it to enjoy it so you can take them on that journey.' Once that pressure was off and they were telling me some of the venues I would be going to... Mexico, Sao Paulo, Monaco, Tokyo, these sounded like decent places to go."

Jermaine Jenas sacked by BBC after 'complaint' against Match of the Day host

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas has been relieved of his presenting duties at the BBC.

The 41-year-old has co-hosted The One Show alongside Alex Jones since 2020 and was part of BBC's football coverage on Match of the Day 2 and live studio games.

On Thursday, though, the Daily Mail revealed the former Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Spurs midfielder had been sacked from his £190,000 per-year role with immediate effect due to complaints of "inappropriate behaviour".

And later on Thursday afternoon, Jenas' departure was confirmed by the BBC, with a spokesman telling the Mirror: “We can confirm that Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up.”

Jenas, capped 21 times by England between 2003 and 2009, officially retired at the age of 34 in 2016 after a career hindered by injuries.

As a result of his impressive on-screen work, he had been tipped to one day succeed Gary Lineker as the host of the BBC's flagship football programme, Match of the Day, with the former Leicester City, Tottenham and England forward insisting Jenas would be a "good" host if he was to succeed him.

Jenas has made no secret of his desire to land the lucrative hosting role, telling the Mail in 2023 that he has his eyes on the role when Lineker decides to hang up his microphone.

"I would obviously be up for it... it's Match of the Day and it would be a great opportunity," he said. "I haven't thought that far ahead but I hosted Match of the Day 2, which was the first one I've ever done. I loved it, it felt comfortable to me, it felt normal, and I love doing The One Show as well.

"I feel quite blessed that I'm even in people's minds that it's something I could take on given how big the show actually is."

Tottenham 'ripping up transfer plan' sums up Lucas Bergvall view after shouting incident

Tottenham's plans of having a younger squad going into the new Premier League campaign have proved fruitful for Ange Postecoglou.

It's been a busy summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the north Londoners welcoming Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth alongside a whole host of potential wonderkids. Archie Gray, 18, made the move from Leeds for around £30million, while Wilson Odobert, 19, joined from Burnley for around £25million.

Min-hyeok Yan, 18, also jumped aboard from Gangwon for a rumoured £3.37 million, while Lucas Bergvall linked up in a £8.5million deal between the Premier League giants and Djurgarden. Spurs set up with a strong side against Leicester in their maiden game of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign on Monday - but they could only hold the newly promoted side to a draw at the King Power Stadium.

Pedro Porro gave Spurs the lead on the half-hour mark, but Postecoglou's side failed to put the Foxes to the sword after squandering numerous chances. Jamie Vardy - whose fitness was questioned before a ball was kicked - equalised for Leicester in the 57th minute, but the game could have easily swayed in City's favour in the latter stages.

That's because Bergvall - who came on as a substitute alongside Gray - found himself pickpocketed by Stephan Mavididi deep in his own half. The pacey forward drove towards the box before picking out an unmarked Wilfred Ndidi, who forced a save from Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

In a heated blaze, Vicario instantly leapt to his feet to berate Bergvall for his mistake, screaming at the youngster for his carelessness in his own half. Bergvall kept his head low as he accepted the scolding from his teammate, before setting up to defend a resulting City corner.

Despite the slight hiccup, Spurs are set to put their faith in Bergvall and give him regular minutes this season. The Athletic claim that Bergvall and fellow teenager Gray will be a big part of Postecoglou's plans this season. The same report states that the dynamic duo have impressed in pre-season and training so much that the club are now abandoning their plans to sign an all-action midfielder.

The club had been linked with numerous midfielders throughout the window, including Eberechi Eze, Joao Gomes and Hayden Hackney, however, they no longer see that as a priority position due to the youngster's showings since arriving - summing up just how much they rate the pair.

Speaking at the end of last season, Postecoglou admitted that he would have to relieve certain first-team players to make way for a younger style of play. He said: "I’ve got to change this squad. I’ve got to build a squad I think can play our football.

"For that to happen, there have to be exits. Sometimes, you let people go who you think: ‘He’s a good player’. But how am I going to change if I don’t do that?" Postecoglou has certainly fulfilled his statement across the pitch, waving goodbye to the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Emerson Royale to name a few since last season.

While James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr received Ange's nod to start in the game against Leicester, Bergvall and Gray both looked comfortable and competent on the ball when they made their debuts in the second half. The key to success for Postecoglou could sit in striking the balance between eager younger players who are determined to make a name for themselves, mixed in with experienced hardheads who can nurture them on the pitch.

Bentancur is expected to miss the weekend's game against Everton due to a nasty clash of heads during Spurs' league opener, and it could give Ange a push to unleash either Gray or Bergvall for the full 90 in north London at the weekend to see what they're fully capable of.

Joao Gomes joins in £90m double deal as Leeds transfer agreed

There is just over a week left of the transfer window and Tottenham could still get several deals over the line.

The north London side have already splashed well over £100million this summer on new signings, with £65million striker Dominic Solanke being the pick of the bunch. Highly-rated midfielder Archie Gray, French winger Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Yang Min-hyuk complete the list of Spurs' new arrivals.

But Monday night's disappointing 1-1 draw against Leicester City in their season opener highlighted that Ange Postecoglou's squad is still very much a work in progress. To break into the top four after last season's fifth-place finish, they likely still need to make a few key signings.

For that to happen, player sales too are necessary. And with the clock ticking down, Football London takes a look at exactly what Daniel Levy must do to give Spurs a dream end to the window ahead of next Friday’s deadline.

Sign Joao Gomes

Spurs are noticeably lacking quality in midfield, a fact which cannot be lost on Postecoglou. The Lilywhites have been linked with Wolves’ energetic midfielder Joao Gomes, who would undoubtedly strengthen them in that department. Their options as it stands are Yves Bissouma, youngster Gray, Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur - who was stretchered off at Leicester after a nasty collision - and Pape Matar Sarr.

Tottenham are said to have "set their sights" on the 23-year-old Brazil international Gomes, according to GiveMeSport. Having earned all eight of his caps this year and made 34 league appearances last season, Gomes makes more tackles per game on average than any Spurs player and is adept at both covering ground and driving forward with the ball.

He even managed to score two against Spurs when the sides met in February. Wolves could now potentially look to offload Gomes to raise their own transfer funds, meaning Tottenham are well-positioned to make a move for the midfielder - who reports suggest will be available for around £40m.

Football London understands the links to Gomes are wide of the mark but there is no denying his quality and that he'd be a good signing. Spurs had considered signing an all-action midfielder as a priority but are reportedly now abandoning that plan to put faith in Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Cash in on Jack Clarke clause

Spurs signed Jack Clarke from Leeds back in 2019 before immediately loaning him back to the Yorkshire club. Following lacklustre loan spells and an eventual permanent sale to Sunderland in 2022, Clarke's form has sparked into life.

The 23-year-old striker netted 15 goals last term for the Black Cats and has already notched a goal and an assist this season. That's pushed newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town to make an improved offer for Clarke of £15m plus £5m in add-ons.

In the case where he is sold to Ipswich, Spurs would receive a welcome windfall to redirect towards new signings. That’s thanks to the 40% sell-on clause – for any profit Sunderland make on the sale – Tottenham negotiated when they sold Clarke back in 2022.

Sign Piero Hincapie

Ecuadorian star Piero Hincapie had a standout season with Bayer Leverkusen, helping the German side to an unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double. The 22-year-old's impressive performances, highlighted by his 20 clean sheets, have unsurprisingly caught the attention of several top clubs.

Liverpool have shown long-standing interest in the player. But according to Diaria Expreso via TEAMtalk, Tottenham are also keen on the versatile left-sided defender and will need to shell out around £50m to secure his services.

Hincapie is yet to make a decision about his future and is expected to discuss his options with his representatives in the coming days. Spurs need his quality in defence to provide strong competition, while his ability to play at left-back makes him a handy backup to Destiny Udogie.

Sell Giovani Lo Celso and Manor Solomon

In order to really cap off a successful transfer window, which has already included selling the likes of Joe Rodon, Emerson Royal and Oliver Skipp, Spurs should look to offload more fringe players. The Times reports that Giovani Lo Celso and Manor Solomon may still leave before the window shuts.

Lo Celso has struggled to make an impact at Spurs since first arriving in 2019, aside from occasional flashes of brilliance. And Solomon's debut season was hampered by injuries, which resulted in the club's decision to look for potential suitors.

Johan Lange and Ange Postecoglou must sanction two transfer deals as they plot Tottenham future

We are about to enter the final week of the summer transfer window and Tottenham still have moves to make in the market. A very busy summer at the club so far with incomings and outgoings taking place in order to refresh Ange Postecoglou's Spurs squad, a few more deals could be sanctioned before the month is out.

The loan market is once again going to be really important to the Lilywhites when it comes to allowing those on the periphery of the team to head elsewhere and feature regularly. Tottenham have so far finalised a number of loan deals for the 2024/25 campaign, with Matthew Craig (Barnsley), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Marseille), Bryan Gil (Girona), Alejo Veliz (Espanyol), Dane Scarlett (Oxford United) and Jamie Donley (Leyton Orient) all departing Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the season.

Donley made an instant impression for Orient on his debut for the club at Charlton Athletic last weekend and his move across the capital is only going to benefit him as he now has the opportunity to play regularly in senior football. Veliz and Scarlett could also thrive if they are given consistent minutes to show what they can do, which unfortunately wasn't the case for them at Sevilla and Ipswich Town respectively last term.

Before the 11pm transfer deadline on Friday, August 30, Johan Lange and Tottenham have two further loan moves that must be a priority for the club in the remaining days of the summer transfer window. The two players in question are Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine.

Rated extremely highly by the club, both are going to find opportunities in the first team extremely hard to come by due to the size of Postecoglou's squad. Loan moves benefit all parties concerned, thus giving the duo the opportunity to build on finishing last season on loan with Plymouth Argyle in the Championship.

Devine did start the 2023/24 term with League One side Port Vale but it was decided by Spurs that they wanted to test him at a higher level in the second half of the campaign going on the performances he was producing on a weekly basis for the Staffordshire-based club. His time at Home Park certainly wasn't as successful as his spell with Vale due to a lack of regular minutes, but the experience of playing senior football only enhanced his game and that was evident over the course of pre-season.

Catching Postecoglou's eye 12 months ago in the head coach's first few weeks as Tottenham boss, Devine again did likewise this time around and it has led to many supporters calling for him to be given a shot in the first team this term. Speaking ahead of the Bayern Munich friendly at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month, Postecoglou was asked by football.london what this season holds for Devine and whether he will stay or depart on loan once again.

"We'll have a look at it really closely. I agree, Alfie has had a really good pre-season and again compare it to last year and he's definitely developed," he said. "Part of that is probably because he's played senior football last year on loan. A lot of them will be judged with what outs we have between now and the start of the season.

"I wouldn't want to keep him with us unless I really felt he can get some significant game time because I don't want to startle his development because he is a player that can make an impact here at Spurs. Fair to say him and the other younger guys, Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear have made an impression both in the way they have trained and the way they have played games. We'll have a close look at what the next steps are."

If he is to depart on loan over the course of the next week, the Championship looks the most likely destination for the 20-year-old. Having gone from starting the vast majority of his games for Port Vale, Devine started nine of his 15 Plymouth appearances and on three occasions he didn't even make it off the substitutes' bench.

Devine's first spell in the Championship will only have benefitted him and another shot at England's second division could be the making of him as he bids to become a Tottenham regular in the not too distant future. You could make a case for keeping the Warrington-born player at the club this season due to the addition of Europa League football on the calendar but regular football and a loan move away is what he needs right now.

Phillips would also benefit from a full year out on loan as he currently finds himself behind Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin in the pecking order at Tottenham. Due to Ben Davies' versatility, the Welshman may even be ahead of Phillips if there is a scenario just like last season where there is lack of available centre-backs.

Speaking towards the end of last season, Postecoglou revealed that he is looking to add another centre-back to his squad for 2024/25. Tottenham have yet to bring in a new defender and they cannot leave themselves too short in that area of the pitch, especially with eight Europa League games on the calendar before the end of January and with also Carabao Cup football to come in the first half of the term.

As is the case with Devine, though, Phillips requires another loan spell in the Championship just to add to his experience in the senior game. Coming up against attacking players such as Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Son Heung-min on a daily basis in training is undoubtedly good for his development, but it is the matchday experience he requires to help take his game to another level.

Spurs fans got to see glimpses of the ex-Blackburn Rovers man in pre-season as he played the second half of the Hearts, QPR and Vissel Kobe games, with a knock on the training ground keeping him out of the team's final three friendlies of the summer. Phillips has since returned to training but it's hard to see where exactly he is going to get his minutes from unless he heads out on loan.

As Lange and Postecoglou plan for the years ahead, it is vital that both Devine and Phillips get their loan moves to ensure they are in the best position possible to become Spurs stars of the future.

Ange Postecoglou could consider three Tottenham changes vs Everton as Archie Gray decision looms

Tottenham will be looking to put things right on Saturday afternoon when they return to Premier League action against Everton. Starting the 2024/25 season at Leicester City on Monday evening, Spurs couldn't claim all three points after Jamie Vardy netted just prior to the hour mark to cancel out Pedro Porro's opener.

It really was a game Tottenham should have won as they were in total control for large parts of the contest and they created a number of chances over the course of the 90 minutes. Very much a familiar story to last season with the team passing up excellent chances time and time again in games and not recording maximum points in the process, Ange Postecoglou will have his fingers crossed that everything clicks together and Everton are duly punished.

Following Tottenham's transfer activity in the summer market, the head coach now has a number of options to choose from in terms of his squad and a handful of players unfortunately missed out altogether for the Leicester game. So are there any changes that Postecoglou could make for Saturday's game against Sean Dyche's men? football.london takes a look below.

Djed Spence for Pedro Porro

Tottenham will have to check on Porro going into the Everton game after the Spaniard came off in second-half stoppage-time at Leicester. On the scoresheet in the first half with a deft header, Porro appeared to roll his ankle late on and was hobbling through the game before he was replaced by Djed Spence.

Postecoglou will provide the latest on the injury front when he speaks to the media on Friday and the hope will be that there are no issues with Porro, who was wincing in the dugout after his substitution, and he can start once again. If he is to miss out, however, Spence will be the man to replace him.

Archie Gray/Yves Bissouma for Rodrigo Bentancur

Tottenham are set to be without Rodrigo Bentancur this weekend through the concussion protocol. The midfielder was on the end of a horrible collision in the box against Leicester and fell hard to the ground, with his teammates immediately calling for medical help.

Amid the concerns over him, the Uruguayan eventually sat up and put himself on the stretcher as he made his way off the field. Tottenham made a concussion substitution to replace Bentancur with Archie Gray for the closing minutes of the contest.

Gray could now be the one to profit due to the injury Bentancur sustained. The summer signing made a huge impression in pre-season and Postecoglou will have no issues with throwing the youngster in for his Premier League debut as he is an extremely talented player.

The other option open to Postecoglou is to immediately bring Yves Bissouma back into the team after the club elected to suspend him for the Leicester match after posting footage on social media of himself inhaling laughing gas. Bissouma quite clearly has to rebuild the trust of Postecoglou and his teammates after letting them down, thus meaning he may have to contend with minutes here and there for now until he gets to start a game for Tottenham once again.

Dejan Kulusevski for Brennan Johnson

Postecoglou's decision not to start Dejan Kulusevski in Monday's game at Leicester City was certainly a shock following the Swede's standout pre-season campaign. No longer an option up front with Dominic Solanke joining the club and Richarlison back to full fitness, Brennan Johnson was given the nod over him on the right flank and the boss opted to start James Maddison in midfield rather than move Kulusevski centrally.

The Stockholm-born player did come on in the closing stages of the contest and looked to make things happen as Tottenham searched for a winner. Spurs missed a technical player in the final third at the King Power Stadium, with Kulusevski's ability to open things up and his eye for a pass a big miss.

Going on Johnson's struggles down the right with the ex-Nottingham Forest man barely having a say on proceedings, Kulusevski could come in for the youngster this weekend against Everton.
