Solanke out but Richarlison doesn't start

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur are looking to register their first win of the Premier League season as they host Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs created enough opportunities in their opening game at Leicester City to win the encounter but instead managed to come away with just a point following a poor second half at the King Power Stadium. Postecoglou has confirmed that Dominic Solanke will now miss the match against Everton on Saturday after picking up an ankle injury in the game on Monday evening.

That could mean either a start for Richarlison, who is yet to play more than a handful of minutes since returning to training in the past fortnight, or the return of Dejan Kulusevski in the false nine role he impressed in during pre-season for Spurs.

During that second half at Leicester, Tottenham also lost Rodrigo Bentancur to a head injury and Pedro Porro went off late on after picking up a knock. Postecoglou confirmed that Bentancur will miss the match against Everton through the concussion protocol as well as Tottenham taking it slowly with the Uruguayan anyway.

That could either mean Yves Bissouma coming straight back into the team after his recent indiscretion or a first Premier League start for Archie Gray, who has impressed everyone inside the club and most importantly Postecoglou this summer. Porro is available despite the knock he took late on against Leicester.

New signing Wilson Odobert is also available for selection after receiving his work permit on Tuesday following his £30million move from Burnley.

Here is the team we reckon Postecoglou will select to face the Toffees:

Tottenham will be hoping to secure their first win of the 2024/25 Premier League season as they prepare to host Sean Dyche's Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon.

The opening weekend of the campaign saw them drop points in a disappointing 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Leicester City after Jamie Vardy's second-half header cancelled out Pedro Porro's early opener. Despite good chances to win the game, none were taken which leaves Ange Postecoglou's side 12th after the first weekend of action.

The Spurs boss made it clear that he wants his side to put the draw behind them and focus on the game in front of them, and believes the home supporters will help them to secure all three points this weekend. He claimed: "Yeah [a home win would be nice]. Certainly it helps and you want to start off with a good performance in the first game at home.

"We had a good performance last week and we've got to turn a good performance into a victory. We were really good at home early last year, we set a real good standard in terms of the kind of football we played here, so we're looking forward to tomorrow. We want to get off to a good start at home.

However, they'll be forced to do that without their new summer signing Dominic Solanke, who was confirmed to be out of action. In his first game since arriving for £55m, Solanke "copped it really early on [as] someone went across his ankle" according to Postecoglou, meaning he'll miss this weekend's game alongside Rodrigo Bentancur who won't play due to concussion protocol.

With all that being said as we head towards kick-off, here's how you can tune in...

When is Tottenham vs Everton?

The game is set to kick-off at 3:00pm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, August 24. Spurs are one of five 3pm kick-offs tomorrow alongside Crystal Palace vs West Ham, Southampton vs Nottingham Forest, Fulham vs Leicester City and Manchester City vs Ipswich Town.

History is on Tottenham's side though, as the north London outfit have lost just one of their last 23 home matches against the Toffees, with a 1-0 loss against a Carlo Ancelotti-led Everton in 2020 the last time that happened.

Is Tottenham vs Everton on TV?

The game will not be broadcasted in the UK as it's not been selected by those with the viewing rights. Viewers in the Middle East can watch via beIN SPORTS and those in Scandinavian countries are able to watch on Via Play.

Ange Postecoglou makes Dominic Solanke Arsenal promise and jokes about Bissouma behaviour

Ange Postecoglou believes Dominic Solanke will be fit to face Arsenal in the North London Derby next month and hasn't ruled him out of facing Newcastle next week while joking that Yves Bissouma has been acting like a punished child.

Solanke did not miss a single game for Bournemouth last season as he plundered 21 goals for the south coast side but it only took one match following his £65million move to Tottenham for the striker to suffer an injury. A Leicester player landed on the forward's ankle and it flared up later in the week, meaning the 26-year-old will miss Saturday's match against Everton.

Postecoglou was asked whether Solanke could potentially miss the big north London derby and he quickly dispelled any such fears.

"It's not serious enough to keep him out for five weeks, he's still got a chance for the Newcastle game. That's the extent of it, it's just about how quickly he recovers," he said.

"Every story is written differently. They’re not all fairy tales where you come and make your debut and score a hat-trick. He was very good for us at Leicester and we’re disappointed because it was really exciting to see that he is going to fit in really well with what we’re doing.

"I’ve no doubt about that. It’s just a small hiccup. He misses a game or two, it's game one of 50-plus games. He'll have plenty of opportunities to recover from that. For me the exciting bit was just watching him in the team last week. I can just tell he's going to be a really good fit."

So did the Australian put an arm around his new striker after such a big blow just one game in?

"You know I'm not that type mate," Postecoglou said with a grin. "He's a big man and I have always said this to footballers - nothing runs smoothly. And think of the poor old manager - forget the player, what about me? I've just lost my key striker a week and a half after buying him - I need an arm around me!

"No, it's all good. We didn't sign Dom for one match and he knows that. He's here hopefully for a long time to have a real impact at this club and bring success to it. I was excited with what we saw last week and this is just a small bump in the road. I'm sure he will be looking forward to getting back out there."

One key thing that is different to last season is that Solanke's absence is not a disaster for Postecoglou because he has Richarlison back in training. Having two strikers at his disposal was a luxury the Spurs boss could not enjoy in the previous campaign whenever the Brazilian was out injured.

"Yeah, absolutely [that's why it's important to have two strikers]. Richy is not going anywhere but if he did leave, I’d definitely sign another striker," said Postecoglou. "We had that issue last year where we were really short in that area. To be fair, the whole pre-season we played without a striker. I was playing Deki Kulusevski through there the whole pre-season because we hadn’t signed Dom and Richy was out.

“It makes a difference to how we play having a striker in there. It’s really important to us to have two recognised strong strikers in the team."

So was there plenty of interest in Richarlison this summer other than the well-documented Saudi Pro League advances?

"Don’t know mate. They don’t come to me if they’ve got interest. They go to other people," said the Tottenham head coach. "He’s not one we were looking to move on. Not from my perspective anyway. We need two strikers and that’s what we’ve got."

The key for Richarlison this season will be to get consistent game time under his belt after a year in which he impressed whenever he started but missed too many match minutes over the course of the campaign. This Saturday he will get a chance to play against his old side Everton, having netted twice against them last time out.

"(Injuries) are a big part. You talk about the Everton game last year but that was a spell of him playing really regularly," said Postecoglou. "I thought last year that whenever he got a series of games, he just looked better and better but invariably an injury hit.

"That chance the other night [against Leicester] if he had a full pre-season and a half a dozen games, he probably buries it because he’s so good in the air. I remember last year, I think it was Sheffield United where he had a very similar header and buried it but he’d had a pre-season.

“That’s the thing with Richy, it’s trying to get him fit. Obviously we have to be a little bit careful with him because he hasn’t played for quite a while. I’ve said before, whenever he’s been fit and available, I’ve always chosen him because he’s a handful for oppositions. He’s a real physical presence in the box, he’s a good finisher, he works hard for the team.

"But hopefully now getting Dom in, the whole idea is that we can share that workload and not be so reliant on one player. I think he’s still at a good age, Richy, where he can still play some fantastic football for us and we’ve got to make sure we keep him fit and manage his workload so we can get the best out of him.

"He’s fit to start the game [against Everton] because he’s training but can he play 90 minutes? No. So that’s where the decision lies. He came on last week, but match fitness is different and he hasn’t played a minute in pre-season. It’s where we give him his minutes."

The other option is to use Kulusevski as a false nine with the Swede having impressed throughout pre-season in the role. Postecoglou had said it was something he was unlikely to do again, but he seemed to walk back on that slightly following Solanke's injury.

"It’s an option. I don’t think it’s his best area but through pre-season and at least one game at the end of last season, he’s such a hard worker, he runs the line really well, can link up with the rest of the team in the build-up. I think he can do a job for us there, but I don’t think it’s his best position," he said.

One player Tottenham will have available again is Bissouma. The midfielder was handed a one-game suspension by the club after uploading videos of himself inhaling laughing gas, which has been illegal since last year. Postecoglou made his disappointment clear in the midfielder, who turns 28 next week, and said that the player needed to rebuild his trust with him and his team-mates.

The Australian was asked how Bissouma has been in the days since being reprimanded and a smile spread across his face.

"You know what it’s like when you punish your child and they do everything right for the next two days?" he asked. "He’s first in the meetings, he’s doing everything right but there’s always temptation down the road, so we’ll see. I’ve always believed in opportunity for redemption and learning. We’re still in that space at the moment with Biss.

"But obviously that door closes after a while if there’s repeated (indiscretions). He’s been good but I would have been surprised if he wasn’t. It’s always the key with Biss is consistency. The consistency of behaviour, what he does… it’s not that he’s doing a lot of bad things.

"Obviously the last transgression was very serious but it’s the little things along the way also. I think sometimes that manifests in his game where he’s really good and he’ll have a moment when he’s not. I think it all correlates. From our perspective it’s about trying to continually guide him, but it’s up to him. He’s got to continue to try to be the best version of himself that he can possibly be."

Latest Tottenham injury news as two miss Everton with new blow confirmed amid Pedro Porro update

Ange Postecoglou has given injury updates on three Tottenham players that emerged as doubts for this weekend's Premier League clash against Everton. Spurs kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Leicester City where both Rodrigo Bentancur and Pedro Porro picked up very different problems.

In the second half, Bentancur collided with Stephy Mavididi and suffered a nasty head injury which appeared to leave him unconscious. Later in the clash, Porro rolled his ankle and was spotted hobbling, however he was also seen walking without a limp after the game.

Throughout the week, it also came to light that Dominic Solanke was a potential injury doubt having not been spotted in training. Understandably, given he is Spurs' marquee summer signing, the first question of Postecoglou's pre-Everton press conference was on the subject of Solanke.

"Dom picked up a knock in the last game," the Tottenham boss revealed. "He got through the game but it flared up the day after. He will miss tomorrow." Thankfully for Tottenham, Richarlison is still at the club despite transfer links and he is also available despite being plagued by injuries over the last few months.

On the Brazil forward, Postecoglou said: "Richy has trained for two weeks. He's ready to go. Obviously hasn't played for quite a while which you've got to [take into account] but he's available and ready to go. Postecoglou later confirmed that Porro was fit and had trained all week, however he could not do the same for Bentancur.

"Absolutely not," he replied when asked if the midfielder could feature. "Irrespective of concussion protocols, any head injury we are always going to be more conservative. Good thing is he has bounced back really well. He has done all the tests and he feels good. We will take our time with Rodrigo and make sure he is absolutely 100 per cent before we put him out there again."

Like Solanke, Spurs also have a ready-made replacement for Bentancur with Yves Bissouma back available after missing the opening game of the season because of an internal suspension. "Biss is available, but we have got some options there. I guess the whole idea of trying to bulk up the squad this off season was about these kinds of scenarios," he admitted.

"Unfortunately for Rodrigo, because he had a good game on Monday, Biss is available but we have got some midfield options." Judging by Postecoglou's comments, it seems far more likely that Archie Gray is named at the base of midfield with the Mali international still needing to mend some bridges.

Dominic Solanke will miss Tottenham's Premier League clash with Everton this weekend through injury.

The 26-year-old, who only recently joined Spurs from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £65million, was not pictured in training in the week which sparked fears among the fanbase. Ange Postecoglou confirmed on Friday that the Englishman picked up a knock on the ankle during Monday's 1-1 draw with Leicester City and will not be available for the game against Sean Dyche's side on Saturday.

The Tottenham boss told reporters: "Dom picked up a knock in the last game. He got through the game but it flared up the day after. He will miss tomorrow.

He told football.london: "It's an ankle injury mate, he copped it really early on, someone went across his ankle. He's definitely out tomorrow. It just depends on the recovery [when he returns], obviously next week we've got the international break, but it's not serious. We know that, but just an ankle injury."

Solanke played the full game against Leicester on Monday but now looks set to be replaced in the side by Richarlison. The Brazilian started the Leicester game on the bench but came on for the final few minutes as Tottenham searched for a winner.

"Richy has trained for two weeks. He's ready to go. Obviously hasn't played for quite a while which you've got to [take into account] but he's available and ready to go," Postecoglou said when asked about Richarlison by football.london.

In other team news, Pedro Porro is fine after limping off against the Foxes while Yves Bissouma will also return to the squad. Wilson Odobert will also be available for selection.

Rodrigo Bentancur will miss out through concussion protocol but would have anyway after such a head injury.

"Absolutely not. Irrespective of concussion protocols, any head injury we are always going to be more conservative," he said. "Good thing is he has bounced back really well. He has done all the tests and he feels good. We will take our time with Rodrigo and make sure he is absolutely 100 per cent before we put him out there again."

How's Dominic Solanke’s fitness?

Yeah, Dom picked up a knock in the last game. He got through the game but it flared up the day after. He will miss tomorrow.

How's Rodrigo Bentancur's fitness? Will he play tomorrow?

Absolutely not. Irrespective of concussion protocols, any head injury we are always going to be more conservative. Good thing is he has bounced back really well. He has done all the tests and he feels good. We will take our time with Rodrigo and make sure he is absolutely 100 per cent before we put him out there again.

Does this mean Yves Bissouma will be back?

Biss is available, but we have got some options there. I guess the whole idea of trying to bulk up the squad this off season was about these kinds of scenarios. Unfortunately for Rodrigo, because he had a good game on Monday, Biss is available but we have got some midfield options.

Has he built bridges and available to play?

He is available for selection, the bridge building continues.

What have you told your players after the draw with Leicester and what would you like to see from them tomorrow?

I think, with all these things there is the outcome which was disappointing for us like you said it’s a game we should have really won but you can’t take away from the fact the performance was strong and the first game of the year there were some really positive aspects to our football, we controlled the game really well, created chances, minimised the opposition’s strengths but we know in football that is not going to guarantee you an outcome. Like I said, I thought we were a bit wasteful in front of goal and we should have put the game to bed. For the most part, I thought it was positive and for us if we can replicate those kind of performances regularly the outcomes will change.

Sean Dyche is down to 14 players, what are you expecting from Everton?

Tough game. I think anyone who plays against Everton and a Sean Dyche team expects to be nothing less than very very competitive. Obviously they have got a few injuries, but the players they have out are very good players and can make things difficult for any opponent, so we've got to be ready for that. It's our first home game so I'm sure the lads are excited to play in front of our crowd, get the atmosphere going and hopefully put on a good performance for me.

Cristian Romero will make his 100th appearance, what have you made of him?

Outstanding. Obviously with all these kind of things you have the image of a player from afar and before I got here I thought he was going to be really important to me because he's such a fantastic centre-back for club and country. But being here, watching him, the way he trains and the way he plays, unbelievably string mindset. An absolute winner in every thing he does. He was really important last year and he's going to be really important moving forward. He is one of the players within this group who has achieved things from a team perspective and those kind of things are transferable. He has won the World Cup, he has won the Copa America, so he's part of a successful team and I think he's a really strong influence in the group. It's great he plays his 100th game tomorrow. I know he'll perform at the level he normally does, he's really consistent, but hopefully we'll make it a special day for him.

You must want to start well at home?

Yeah. Certainly it helps and you want to start off with a good performance in the first game at home. We had a good performance last week and we've got to turn a good performance into a victory. We were really good at home early last year, we set a real good standard in terms of the kind of football we played here, so we're looking forward to tomorrow. We want to get off to a good start at home.

You're looking to get the team to know what you want, imprinting your philosophy, how close to understanding it are they?

We are definitely further down the track. For the most part, the players, particularly those who were here last year, have a good understanding. But that’s constantly evolving in terms of the way we want to play in terms of the players we have and how we want to play as a team. Nothing is fixed in stone that this is exactly how we will go about our football. The basic principles are there and that’s what’s pleasing about last week - we want to dominate games, minimise the opposition’s chances and we did that. I think a lot of it is embedded in there but it is a constantly evolving process.

Does them doing what you want but not getting a result makes you less angry?

Look, it’s not about anger. Obviously, the game is an emotional game so, if you don’t win, of course, everyone is disappointed with that and goes through various ranges of emotion. My job is to park whatever emotions I have to one side and look at the way we played. I’ve said 1000 times, we could have won 1-0 last week, but if we didn’t play well I’d certainly be more concerned than playing well and not winning the game. There is concerns on both aspects but certainly more concerns… because that’s harder to fix. If our performance is not us then that’s difficult to fix than us playing well and not getting the result.

Tell us about Wilson Odobert, what made you sign him?

We went through the same sort of processes. He's one that we identified really early on in the summer. It's no secret we were looking for a wide player and Wilson was one of the ones we highlighted.

We had to go through certain steps to get these things done. They're not as straight forward as saying 'that's who we want, go and get them'. Obviously getting big Dom in was very important for us and we spent a lot of time working on that deal but once Dom was done there was one target and that was Wilson and that happened really quickly.

I really like the way he plays in the wide areas. He's different to our other wingers. He's a dribbler, he likes to get into the front third. He can play either side, he can play central. He's had a really good development if you look at his trajectory from PSG as a youngster to Troyes, playing in Ligue 1, and France and Premier League football before the age of 19. I think he ticked all the boxes for us and he's a fantastic young bloke as well, so really happy to get him in.

Do you expect him to be ready to play right away or will you have to be patient?

With all the players we've signed, I think irrespective of age we’re signing them because we think they can make an impact. I certainly see that with Wilson. He's a year older than Archie and Lucas and they’ve already made an impact. We sign players because we're still in that stage of building a team. I won’t bring players here who I don’t think can meaningfully contribute to us in the short-term and Wilson definitely will.

What exactly was the injury for Dominic and will he miss more games than just tomorrow?

It's an ankle injury mate, he copped it really early on, someone went across his ankle. He's definitely out tomorrow. It just depends on the recovery [when he returns], obviously next week we've got the international break, but it's not serious. We know that, but just an ankle injury.

Is Richarlison fit enough to start?

Richy has trained for two weeks. He's ready to go. Obviously hasn't played for quite a while which you've got to [take into account] but he's available and ready to go.

Oliver Skipp was heralded as being a future Spurs captain by previous managers, why didn't it quite work out for him?

That’s what happens in football sometimes. I wouldn’t say it didn’t work out, he probably will have a fantastic career at Leicester. It doesn't always, just because one door closes, there's very few players who just play at one club all their career.

Since I've been here, Skippy's had an excellent attitude, good footballer. Probably not had the opportunities he wanted or deserves. I think for every footballer they've got a decisions to make in terms of their own career and he was getting to an age where he wanted to be playing more minutes.

Fantastic person, academy graduate who ended up playing for his club for a number of seasons. I don’t think that's not working out. It think it's a credit to him and sure he will have a fantastic career to come.

Ashley Phillips has gone to Stoke, what's the thinking behind that?

Yeah, I think it's a really good loan for him going to Stoke. With the younger players it is a balance between if we keep them in the squad, are they going to play meaningful minutes? And with Ash, we didn't think that would be the case. He played the back end of last year fairly regularly at Plymouth and we feel like he needs to play more football. Centre back is a trickier position. Sometimes players need more game time to develop and improve rather than just training. We felt it was the best decision for him.

Is Pedro Porro ok?

Yeah, he's fine, mate. He's trained.

Anyone else injured?

No, no one else.

Ashley Phillips going leaves four centre backs, are you happy with that depth or will you try to do something there over next week?

No, look we've obviously got Radu, who is going really well and training really well. Ben can play centre-back as well and Archie can play centre-back so I think we're OK.

Is Archie Gray a candidate to replace Bentancur and long-term is six his best position?

Who knows, mate. Everywhere we've put him so far he has looked really comfortable and that's a credit to him that he has adjudged to Premier League football. That was him and Lucas' first Premier League game last week and they came on and made an impact, which is fantastic for us when you think about two 18-year-olds who are already making an impact. Yeah we'll see with Archie. Like I said he is obviously a very smart young man in terms of receiving information. Whatever position we put him, we try to guide him through that and he takes that on board really well. And it is going to be an asset for us. Look, we're one game into a 50+ season so I am sure he is going to play a lot. He might play a number of positions and where he ends up? I think he will be the master of his own destiny in terms of that.

How active will Spurs be over next week? Is outgoings a big area?

Yeah look probably a couple more will go out, but we've done a fair bit of work over the last 12 months in terms of the squad. As much as the focus has been on getting guys in, we've changed the squad a fair bit, brought down the demographic a fair way. We've brought in footballers who are more better suited to play the football we want to play moving forwards. So, there has been a lot of work done in that area from our perspective, but with a week to go there is still a little bit to do.

Tottenham confirm latest transfer as Ange Postecoglou clearout continues with new plan clear

Tottenham have confirmed the loan departure of defender Ashley Philips to Stoke for the 2024/25 season. The 19-year-old will leave the club for the second time since joining from Blackburn last summer.

Phillips spent the second half of last season at Plymouth, where he featured 18 times in the Championship, scoring three times from centre-back. The England junior international started 16 games in the league.

He follows Bryan Gil, Dane Scarlett, and Alejo Veliz in leaving north London on a temporary deal. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has also gone to Marseille on loan but will then see his contract expire next summer.

As well as those leaving to get first-team football, Ange Postecoglou has seen a number of squad players from last season also move on. Oliver Skipp was sold to Leicester City last week whilst Emerson Royal and Joe Rodon both brought in transfer fees.

Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga, and Ryan Sessesngon have all gone for free. In the opposite direction and Spurs have been active in their recruitment, bringing in Dominic Solanke alongside Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert.

Phillips will be aiming to join up with this group next season after heading out for experience back into the EFL. He is yet to make his senior debut for Spurs but did make the bench seven times in the league last season.

He did make the trip to Asia for the pre-season tour last month but only played 25 minutes against Vissel Kobe. Phillips had previously made appearances in friendlies against Hearts and QPR during initial summer preparations.

Speaking earlier this month, Spurs icon Ledley King spoke about his plans to help Phillips. "Just in passing, you know, not sat down and had the real opportunity [to speak to them], but I'd like to go into the training centre throughout the season just to speak to some of the youngsters, especially defenders, you know, people like Ashley Phillips," he said.

"I do like him. I think he's got a lot of qualities. I spoke to him the other day and said we definitely need to sit down and speak about your game, and how we can progress it. That's something that I definitely enjoy, especially with centre-backs."

King also told football.london that there are similarities to himself. "There's always going to be some traits, he's tall, he's quick, he's good on the ball," the former England international added. "There's definitely some good traits, but, you know, when you're young, it's good when you just have a wiser head that can give you a few pointers, things just to make your game a little bit easier, because when you're young, you play the game I suppose the hard way, you don't know all the tricks," he said.

"I think that the earlier you know a few tricks and positionally, you're putting yourself in the right positions, it really makes your game a lot easier. So we'll sit down, we will go through his game and see how we can improve it."

Ange Postecoglou is holding his press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of Tottenham's Premier League match against Everton.

Spurs will welcome the Toffees in their first home game of the new season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Postecoglou will be looking for his team to register their first win of the fledgling campaign after a frustrating 1-1 draw at Leicester City on Monday night at the King Power Stadium.

The Tottenham boss has a new signing available in Wilson Odobert, who joined in a £30million deal from Burnley last week. The French attacker received his work permit on Tuesday and will now be in contention to face Everton.

Postecoglou will also deliver an update on Rodrigo Bentancur, who suffered a head injury in an aerial collision on Monday night and is expected to miss this match through the concussion protocol. Pedro Porro was also forced off late on against Leicester and the Tottenham boss will deliver the latest news on the right-back who did at least appear to be in training videos this week.

Some fans have also noticed that new £65million striker Dominic Solanke has not appeared in those videos from training at Hotspur Way and fear the front man may have already been struck by the Tottenham injury curse. That will be confirmed or shot down by the head coach on Friday.

Our Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to Postecoglou at the press conference at Hotspur Way. Scroll down for his latest updates from the training ground.

Tottenham have a week left of the transfer window and there is still plenty to be done inside the north London club.

Spurs have signed a new £65million striker in Dominic Solanke, a £40million midfielder in Archie Gray, a £30million winger in Wilson Odobert, plus a loan return for Timo Werner, a January deal set up for South Korean winger Yang Min-Hyeok and the summer arrival of Lucas Bergvall.

The club have also undertaken a massive overhaul of Ange Postecoglou's squad with Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal, Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic, Japhet Tanganga, Troy Parrott, Bryan Gil, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett all leaving this summer alone with Sergio Reguilon, Giovani Lo Celso and Manor Solomon expected to join them.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold answered your questions about the club and the remainder of the transfer window this week. You can find the full transcript below.

hamzahaj: "After both Skipp and Hojbjerg leaving is there a chance that we would sign a defensive midfielder?"

Alasdair says: "I think Spurs will continue to look at opportunities across the market in most positions, but I wouldn't underestimate just how good Archie Gray is. I've been banging on about how talented he is all summer and he's wowed Postecoglou and the coaching staff. He's just won the Championship Young Player of the Year award this week. You don't get that and play 52 times in that physical league without being ready for the hustle and bustle of the Premier League. He's not some 18-year-old rookie just experiencing first team football. He's had a year's worth of tough week in, week out exposure to it. I think he will see himself as an eight but I think he's disciplined enough to play a big part as a six."

cookieblade: "Do you see Lucas and Archie starting for us week in week out soon enough, how does Ange feel about the both of them moving forward?"

Alasdair says: "I see them getting plenty of minutes in the coming months and starting lots of matches. They've been a huge success this summer and have proved in both training and the summer matches to be more than ready. I felt that both on their Premier League debuts on Monday night looked really sharp and comfortable. Don't forget that Postecoglou has previously said how he relishes working with young players because they're more mouldable, adaptable and often hungrier than older ones. Gray and Bergvall are also incredibly talented players and Postecoglou is delighted with them."

Okan5858: "Are there any further transfers planned?"

Alasdair says: "I would be surprised if Spurs don't make at least one more signing before the window closes. I think the focus right now will be on moving Lo Celso, Reguilon and Solomon out of the club as well as loans for players like Devine and Phillips because they've got a lot of midfielders/wingers right now, while Reguilon and Phillips need to head out for differing reasons.

"Tottenham will continue to look at what's available in the market but I get the impression that Postecoglou is happy with a lot of what he's got across various departments. You could see that in the strength of the bench on Monday night. Any chance to add depth will be taken with all of the games ahead, but (and I'll whisper it quietly) don't forget that just creates more decisions to make with the European squad registration and more player would likely have to leave."

gollum555: "What’s the goalkeeper pecking order at the moment? Also what’s happening with Forster and Austin, are we bringing another in, and will any be loaned out?"

Alasdair says: "Monday night seemed to suggest that Austin is the number two now, unless Postecoglou just felt that Forster isn't sharp enough yet after so long out. Whiteman needs a move really but that would leave Spurs with Austin as the only senior club-trained player in the entire squad.

"I do feel that Tottenham could do with another strong option to give Vicario some experienced competition/back-up due to Forster's age and recent injury, but whether that happens in this window or the next remains to be seen."

mddav2: "Ally is it safe to say you are now one of Ange's top journo mates?"

Alasdair says: "I very much doubt it. I think we've built up something of a rapport as I'm constantly there every week at home, away and abroad asking him daft questions, but I don't think Ange is the kind of guy who gets that close to people outside his inner circle of family and friends back home."

cally2722: "Any idea what is happening with Alfie Devine? Loan or keep for Europe?"

Alasdair says: "A loan move if they can decide on the right one. Alfie needs to play football. I thought he did really well this summer when called upon, but it's a packed midfield at Spurs and he needs lots of minutes to continue to develop."

johnher: "What happened with Soonsup-Bell? Did they choose to leave or were they not wanted with the competition? Seemed to be a lot of excitement before."

Alasdair says: "I think Jude has been an excellent player for the U21s, but there was a lot of competition for a spot in the senior team and he never really seemed to get close to being a part of it. We've seen Mikey Moore playing on the right wing for Postecoglou and Will Lankshear up top, with Jamie Donley in and around the set-up before his loan.

"It's a good move for Soonsup-Bell to get his senior career going in Spain. He'll be there today doing his medical and tying up the permanent move. There's no fee but Spurs will get 40% of any future sale and the player will sign a two-year deal with an option for a third."

mteacher9021: "Is Odobert available for the game against Everton?"

Alasdair says: "He's available for selection now. The work permit situation was unfortunate in the sense of timing. He signed on the Friday so nothing could get processed over the weekend with the Home Office offices closed and it was all done on Tuesday, so Odobert has been training and will be a contender for a spot on Saturday. Someone will have to miss out if he comes into the squad."

runar: "I didn't see the Leicester game. Was the knock on Porro bad or will he be back at it this weekend?"

Alasdair says: "It looked to me like an impact injury but that's just me looking from afar in the press box at the stadium. Postecoglou will deliver the latest on Pedro Porro and Rodrigo Bentancur tomorrow at his press conference."

spurssooner: "Ange has been pretty upfront that this is a multi-year project, however after the preseason and first game what are your feelings on us being competitive in cups this season?"

Alasdair says: "I think it's a much deeper squad than last season which should help in the cups. The games come thick and fast from next month onwards so the squad is going to be tested but you can see two different line-ups in there now as well as young players pushing to be involved."

nick47: "We have heard on X from a Tier 1 source we are not in for Gomes. Can you confirm this and if so, are we still trying for a number 8, box-to-box midfielder?"

Alasdair says: "I mentioned the other day that Spurs are not believed to be in for Joao Gomes. I think the club will continue to look at various positions over the next 10 days or so to add depth if they can, but I think Postecoglou is also very keen to let Gray and Bergvall loose on the Premier League and both can play in that role."

LLM: "What is the plan for Lankshear this year as I think i remember seeing you say that they wanted to keep him but he was originally not listed in the shirt number change despite changing to 42. Although this has since been updated to include him. So is the plan still to keep him?"

Alasdair says: "First up, Will needs to recover from a hamstring injury suffered in the Trophy match on Tuesday night. I think the results of the scans on that should be available today. Hopefully it's nothing bad but we'll find out. I think there's the potential for Will to get minutes in the Europa League and Carabao Cup in the next couple of months before making a decision in January about a loan move. I know Spurs have been telling clubs so far this summer that he's not heading out. We'll see if there's any shift late in the window but it makes sense to continue his integration with the squad while playing U21s games at times after just breaking into the first team group."

BobbePL: "Outside the box thinking, Kulusevski being developed as a number 6? He has all the attributes, strength, ball retention, ability to turn player, passing and decent in the air!"

Alasdair says: "I like the logic, but I think an 8 or 10 is where we might see more of him this season as well as on the right. I'd actually like to see him occasionally used as a left winger."

SpursBloke: "Will Spurs still sign Jonathan David? If Solanke gets injured for any significant time this season, we will be in the same boat as last year. I think to get a second striker who is cheap on our books especially being in Europe, would be a shrewd and wise move...Your thoughts- any news?"

Alasdair says: "Spurs certainly like Jonathan David. However, if Solanke gets injured then they've got Richarlison. That's a better situation than last year rather than the same boat really. You never know, Ange might want a third striker in there, but he's got Son, Kulusevski and Johnson who could also play there as well as young Will Lankshear. It would seem a spot with a bit more depth now."

prince1963: "How would you rate the transfer window, because in my opinion it hasn't solved our immediate problems more the future problems?"

Alasdair says: "I think it's a been a big transfer window in overhauling the squad certainly. So many players have left yet I think it's a deeper squad now. Getting in a big striker was a key thing that's been fixed. I do think Gray and Bergvall are going to be far bigger than people realise. Gray for instance is a £40m player. He wasn't a speculative buy for potential. Odobert is going to be a very good winger addition with the ability to play as an 8/10. Their age maybe disguises how relatively experienced they already are. Would I like to see/have seen another big signing? Of course, there still may well be one, but I think a lot of work has been done this window and probably more than people realise. It's a vastly different squad to the one Postecoglou inherited."

Shuban5: "I thought Tyrese Hall was outstanding in the PL2 cup final win over Sunderland. He did not get any playing minutes in the overseas tour. Thoughts on that, what you think is next for him?"

Alasdair says: "Young players develop at different stages. Tyrese had a great second half to last season and got himself into the first team group after only half a season with the U21s. This summer was tougher with more midfield competition, particularly with the arrival of Gray and Bergvall, and now he's showing his quality with more U21s experience. They will need him this year with so many older players having left so Tyrese will have a great chance to catch the eye as the midfield playmaker and wait for a chance in the first team to open up and be ready to take it."

Haith: "Kulusevski was one of our best players on pre season. Do you think he will start ahead of Johnson in the next game ? Was very unfortunate and possibly the wrong decision not starting him against Leicester."

Alasdair says: "I thought it was very harsh on Kulusevski. Ange wanted pace down the flanks but the Swede was Spurs' best player this summer by a long distance. I would be surprised if he doesn't start against Everton as he can battle and provide the quality."

adopotato: "Where do you think Tottenham most need an additional player? I had long felt it was the right wing - a starting winger with Johnson then able to come on as a substitute. I suspect the signing of Odobert, even though he is more experienced on the left, changes this. Maybe... ???"

Alasdair says: "I think there's a lot of wingers now to be honest. Johnson, Kulusevski, Odobert, Son and young Mikey Moore can all play on the right. On the left you've got Son, Werner, Odobert, Johnson and Moore again. Richarlison can play on the wings as well if needed.

"There's no place really for Manor Solomon. He's got interest from Marseille in France, but I think he would prefer to stay in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a loan with an option to buy for him because people will need to see him in action first.

"If I were signing players I'd probably bring in another centre-back or left-back (or someone who can do both alongside Ben Davies) and potentially another midfield option in case there are injuries."

Ange Postecoglou is four steps away from completing Tottenham requirement after transfer vow

It is only natural that supporters are fully focused on transfer incomings ahead of a new football season. After all, new signings are what fans want as they look to see their team kick on and make improvements on the previous campaign.

Tottenham have been rather active in the transfer market this summer, signing Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert and Yang Min-heyok. Timo Werner has also joined the players heading in through the door at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after rejoining the club on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig.

In terms of outgoings, the club have been incredibly busy in their quest to freshen things up and give Ange Postecoglou the squad he desires in his attempt to bring silverware to N17. Players on the periphery of the first team such as Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga all moved on at the end of their contracts on June 30, with Tanguy Ndombele's deal mutually terminated with his move from Lyon back in 2019 a resounding failure.

Joe Rodon then bid farewell on a permanent basis a few days later after returning to Leeds United for good following such a successful year on loan at Elland Road. Tottenham also profited from Troy Parrott catching the eye in his time with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie as fellow Dutch club AZ Alkmaar made their move for the Republic of Ireland international.

Following plenty of speculation over a Tottenham exit, Emerson Royal finally linked up with AC Milan on the eve of the new season and Oliver Skipp departed his boyhood club to join Leicester City in a deal in excess of £20million. Also add in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's move to Marseille as his loan agreement contains an obligation to purchase at the end of the season and Bryan Gil (Girona) and Alejo Veliz (Espanyol) heading for Spain on loan, it has been a very successful window for Tottenham in terms of outgoings.

Given Tottenham's previous struggles prior to the appointment of Postecoglou and the need to go in a different direction altogether, Spurs aren't too far away at all from completing a dramatic squad overhaul. In the head coach's first season in charge, Harry Winks, Davinson Sanchez and Hugo Lloris all departed on a permanent basis as part of the required Tottenham changes.

Harry Kane was also another one to exit in a big-money move to Bayern Munich, although everyone associated with Spurs would have liked the England captain to stay and become a key cog in Postecoglou's new Tottenham side. Never going to complete the squad overhaul in one or two transfer windows, Tottenham have made some real steps so far this summer and done exactly what Postecoglou requested.

At the beginning of May, Postecoglou spoke to the media and stressed the need for changes to take place if Tottenham are take the next steps and progress as a club.

"We need change. Change has to happen," said the 58-year-old. "You can't want to alter your course and quite dramatically for this club because we went down a certain direction. And now we're pivoting to a whole different direction, expect the same people are going to be on that. It's just not going to happen.

"We've had two windows and we've had some development of players, for sure, but when I say we've still got a long way to go, that's what I’m talking about. We can't be there yet because it's impossible to say you're going to have drastic change and yet expect everyone to be on that journey.

"It's not for the want of trying. It's just that we're going to play a certain way, we're going to train a certain way, we're going to have a certain mindset and that's not for everyone. And the same way, whether it's Liverpool or Arsenal, if you look at the beginning of their journeys, by the time they win the competition or have success, the team's almost unrecognisable.

"We've already made tough decisions, we let some experienced players leave. Some of those decisions aren’t that tough because whether it's a player or a staff member, they realise it themselves and say: 'You know what, I've got a better path somewhere else and you've got a better path here.'

"I've got to change this squad, I have to because I've got to build a squad I think can play our football. For that to happen, there has to be exits."

Tottenham are not there yet in terms of the squad changes and ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline on Friday, August 30 they need to part with Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso. Permanent moves have to be the priority for Tottenham as both Lo Celso and Reguilon, who need to get their careers back on track, are now in the final year of their contracts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In an ideal world both would have departed by now but it means that Johan Lange has to find a solution for the duo over the next week. A solution also has to be found for Manor Solomon before the end of the month as well.

Dropping down the pecking order this summer following the signings of Werner and Odobert, the Israeli is just not going to get the minutes he wants in a Tottenham shirt and a move is best for all parties. Due to the injuries the player has suffered over the past couple of seasons and the limited football that has come his way as a result, it may have to be a loan move for this term as clubs probably aren't going to be queuing up to buy him on a permanent basis right now.

However, a strong loan spell away from north London could well result in a permanent move come this time next year. Tottenham will also be hoping the same happens with Gil after he linked up with Girona on a loan deal rather than heading elsewhere on a permanent basis.

Despite wowing in Spain when coming through at Sevilla and then doing well on his two previous loan spells back in his home country, Gil just isn't suited to the demands of the Premier League and it's clear to see that Tottenham need to find a new permanent home for him. Again, another promising loan could work in Spurs' favour but they cannot afford to be in the same position every season where they just loan the Spaniard out.

Making some good signings this summer, what is perhaps even more impressive is the club's dealings in regards to outgoings when it comes to handing Postecoglou his dream squad. Tottenham are now only a few steps away from completing the much-needed overhaul for the Spurs boss.
