Tottenham's hunt for a trophy continues later today, with Spurs traveling to the Netherlands to take on AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League Round of 16 first leg.

A fourth-placed finish in the Europa League League Phase saw Spurs automatically book their spot in the knockout stages, with the Lilywhites being drawn against AZ after their 6-3 aggregate win over Galatasaray in the last round. With Ange Postecoglou's side 13th in the Premier League and out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the Europa League seems their best bet of earning Champions League football for next season and a long-awaited trophy.

Spurs and AZ have already met this season, with the Lilywhites winning 1-0 in the Europa League League Phase back in October. Cristian Romero is tipped to return for Spurs, with Dejan Kulusevski ruled out.

So, can Spurs get off to a winning start in the Netherlands? Let's take a look.

We simulated AZ vs Spurs to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the hosts could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Owusu-Oduro; Maikuma, Goes, Penetra, Wolfe; Koopmeiners, Claise; Poku, Buurmeester, Lahdo; Parrott.

We predict that Spurs could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Danso, Spence; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Son, Odobert.

The opening 15 minutes in Denmark belonged to Spurs, with Postecoglou's side causing all sorts of problems for the hosts in search of the opener. Brennan Johnson was a nuisance for Copenhagen early on, and 18 minutes in, he fired Spurs ahead.

Lucas Bergvall won back possession just inside the AZ half before firing a pass into the path of Johnson on the right. With defenders on either side, the winger sped forward and into the box, and a composed strike saw him find the far corner of the net to make it 1-0.

Spurs were in full control, but a mistimed challenge just before half-time by Cristian Romero handed the hosts a penalty, with former Spurs striker Troy Parrott scoring to level the score. It was an undeserved equaliser, but Spurs managed to make their domination count once again in the second half to retake the lead.

Johnson was involved again, this time using his pace to beat his marker down the line and fizz a cross into the box. His pullback fell perfectly for Heung-Min Son, and the striker blasted his strike into the roof of the net, leaving the 'keeper with no chance as Spurs went 2-1 ahead.

AZbarely had a sniff of the Spurs box after the Lilywhites went ahead, with Postecoglou's side holding out for the win.

EA FC 25 predicted final score: AZ 1-2 Spurs

What do you think the final score will be? Let us know in the comments!

Romero surprise, Tel rest and Solanke decision

Ange Postecoglou finally has plenty of selection decisions to make as Tottenham Hotspur take on AZ in Alkmaar in the Europa League round of 16 first leg.

The world of Spurs never brings entirely good news so with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke all now back in full training and available for this game, so came the update that Dejan Kulusevski has a foot injury which will keep him out until after the international break.

The Spurs boss will have to choose the right moment to introduce the three big players back into the team and he will be wary of the mess that came from putting Romero and Van de Ven straight back in against Chelsea as they both got reinjured. There is also a Premier League game quickly arriving on the horizon with Bournemouth coming to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Kulusevski is a big miss but his injury comes at time when Postecoglou finally has plenty of options in midfield and on the wings and he could even give Mathys Tel a rest with the teenager having played a run of matches after very little football this season before joining Spurs from Bayern Munich.

Here's the team that we reckon Postecoglou will select on Thursday evening:

Cristian Romero start one of five Tottenham changes Ange Postecoglou to consider vs AZ Alkmaar

Tottenham will be looking to start the Europa League knockout phase in style when they face AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night. Paired against the Dutch side when the draw was made in February, Ange Postecoglou's team will play away from home first before crucially having home advantage in the second leg next Thursday.

Tottenham are the current favourites to lift the Europa League trophy in Bilbao come May but AZ will be intent on throwing a spanner in the works. Maarten Martens' side should certainly not be underestimated after hitting Galatasaray for four in their home encounter against the Turkish team last month.

Whereas AZ were in action on Sunday as they lost 3-1 at Heerenveen, Spurs went without a game following their FA Cup fourth round exit at the hands of Aston Villa. Postecoglou is likely to tinker with his side from last Wednesday's defeat at home to Manchester City and there is the possibility that some of his returning players feature in Alkmaar.

But what changes could take place? football.london takes a look below.

Cristian Romero/Micky van de Ven for Archie Gray

We may well see a change in defence from last week as Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are now back in Tottenham training. The return of the duo is huge for Postecoglou after going without his first-choice centre-back pairing for quite some time.

The Australian is unlikely to throw both players in at the deep end, with Romero maybe the one ahead of his teammate right now as he returned to training last week. If there is indeed to be a change, Archie Gray may be the one who drops out of the team.

Romero was seen partnering Kevin Danso in Tottenham training and that could be Postecoglou's selection choice in the Netherlands.

Djed Spence for Destiny Udogie

Djed Spence was a big miss for Tottenham last Wednesday up until he entered the field in the closing stages of the 1-0 defeat. Now available for Europa League action after making the 25-man squad this time around following his omission for the league phase, the 24-year-old looks to be in a good position to return to the side.

As Pedro Porro was given a breather at Ipswich Town just over a week ago, Destiny Udogie may be the player to drop out of the side this time to accommodate Spence. That means the ex-Middlesbrough player would operate at left-back but he is more than accustomed to the role now going on the amount of football he has played there under Postecoglou.

Pape Matar Sarr for Lucas Bergvall

Lucas Bergvall now appears to be one of Postecoglou's first-choice midfielders after wowing in his game time since December. The 19-year-old and Rodrigo Bentancur take up two of the three midfield berths in the Tottenham team, with James Maddison or Dejan Kulusevski, who is now out through injury, usually completing the preferred triumvirate.

One potential option for Postecoglou in midfield is Pape Matar Sarr after a really strong campaign to date in the Europa League from the Senegalese star. If Sarr comes in then Bergvall may be the player at risk.

Dominic Solanke/Son Heung-min for Mathys Tel

Postecoglou may elect to switch things up in attack after Mathys Tel's struggles against Manchester City last Wednesday. However, the Europa League may be the ideal competition for the Frenchman right now as he looks to fully adapt to the Tottenham team.

If Tel does drop down to the bench in Alkmaar, Dominic Solanke or Son Heung-min could possibly lead the line. A start for Solanke may come too soon upon his return from injury and minutes from the bench may be more likely to begin with.

Son Heung-min for Brennan Johnson/Wilson Odobert

Son dropped down to the bench against Manchester City eight days ago and Postecoglou's selection decision proved to be a talking point before and after the game. The Spurs captain looks set to come back into the side and regain his place on the left-wing.

Wilson Odobert impressed there in Tottenham's previous game and he could have done enough to keep his place in the side. The summer signing does offer Spurs versatility and that could see him switch over to the right in order for Son to play in his natural role.

Postecoglou may want to keep Brennan Johnson in the XI, though, considering his goalscoring form this campaign, thus possibly seeing Odobert subsequently take his place on the bench.

Dominic Solanke sends Spurs reminder after big Ange Postecoglou injury update for AZ Alkmaar

Dominic Solanke has seemingly hinted he's desperate to feature for Tottenham Hotspur against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League after missing the last seven weeks with a knee injury. The Spurs forward, 27, joined a growing list of absent players back in January, but he could be the latest man to make a return.

The three-cap England international picked up the issue innocuously just 24 hours before the defeat to Everton when taking a shot in training. In his absence, Ange Postecoglou has utilised Son Heung-min through the middle while also playing Richarlison there until he suffered another injury.

January signing Mathys Tel has been deployed up top in recent weeks, but he has struggled to make an impact having been required to play a lot of minutes, after barely featuring in the first half of the season. Solanke could certainly help out on that front with the 27-year-old included in the squad to face Alkmaar.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, two others that have missed a number of weeks through injury, were also captured getting on the plane heading for the Netherlands with Postecoglou issuing an update on their respective conditions.

"We'll see, we'll train today," he said at a press conference when asked if any of the trio may start. "Obviously, they've all out for significant amount of time, so we'll see when we reintroduce them, but they're all here and training today, so we'll make decisions after that."

All three will likely be eager to feature prominently given the match's importance, with Solanke sending a reminder of his quality by reposting his goal against Galatasaray earlier in the competition that was uploaded by to the club's Instagram account as clip eight when recapping their European journey so far.

Although the likes of Wilson Odobert, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison have all also returned across recent weeks, Dejan Kulusevski has been added to the injury list. "So in terms of who hasn't travelled, [Dejan] Kulusevski is the only one," Postecoglou added.

"He's got a knock on the foot, he's not really sure when to be honest, but it's got a bit sore in the last couple of weeks but he's been able to train and play and just get through it okay.

"But it wasn't getting better so we did some further investigations and no real clarity again, but we're waiting on a couple of things to find out the extend of it but unlikely to be back before the international break. Nothing serious, nothing surgical or anything, but he didn't travel.

"Ben Davies, he's close but still doing some work back at the training ground with Richy and everyone here."

Kevin Danso names 'unbelievable' young player at Tottenham and explains what Postecoglou told him

Kevin Danso spoke to reporters on Wednesday evening ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League round of 16 first leg tie at AZ Alkmaar and we've got a full transcript with everything the defender said.

The centre-back spoke about Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven as well as playing alongside Archie Gray and what Ange Postecoglou told him when Spurs approached Lens to sign him in the winter window. He also spoke to football.london about why he is such a combative defender who Postecoglou said likes taking the hits from attackers.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold was among those at the AFAS Stadion putting the questions to Danso. Here's a full transcript with every word the Spurs centre-back said at the press conference in the Netherlands.

Now you're at Spurs, but you nearly went to Wolves?

I’m here now and I try not to think too much about what happened in the past. I can’t change that. I can’t do much about that. I think when a club like Spurs comes knocking, it’s something that I don’t think a lot of people would turn down. Certainly not me. That’s why I am here today.

Was playing in European football a big part of it?

Yeah, 100 per cent. I think Spurs is a big club and we have the chance to play in Europe. That is where Spurs belong. That is what we want to achieve every season, to continue adding to the history, hopefully with some trophies — that is what we are setting out to do. It starts tomorrow by coming out and trying to win the game.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are back, how do you find that competition? Are you excited by the challenge of competing with them for a place?

Was that competition part of the attraction of Spurs?

You seem to take a lot of hits, get up and limp a bit before getting on with it in games. Ange Postecoglou said the other week that you like taking the whacks, is that fair to say?

I like to think of myself as a warrior, just try to get my body in front of shots, block shots, just be an aggressive defender who's always trying to get in the way of stuff, stop the opposition from scoring, and getting whacks is part and parcel of that, but like you said, I just get up, limp a bit and continue.

Is that from something in your rugby background at school?

Probably, that and growing up with two brothers, always getting whacks from them, but like I said, I enjoy it, it's part of football, everybody gets a kick here and there, you just have to get up and keep going.

What have you made of Archie Gray?

Unbelievable, the fact that he's 18, the maturity he plays with, the maturity with which he carries himself in the dressing room, it's amazing, he's a great lad and his quality has been on show for many weeks now. I think he's just going to keep improving, because he's only 18 and to already have that maturity in the way he plays football, and off the pitch, it's something that's going to take him a long way.

Players always speak about the Ange Postecoglou chat that helped them sign for the club, what was yours like?

It didn’t take much for me to be honest. But it was really short and sweet - he just quickly gave me an insight about the idea of how he wants to play. It was very brief and he just told me the idea of what his team stands for. After that I was 100% sure.

Do you sense a hunger in the squad to win this trophy?

Do you feel this is your last chance to win something?

We take every game as an important one and go out to try and win every time. We’re only in the Europa League now and we’re going to go out and try and win. We want to win the competition of course because we want to be part of a Spurs team that is winning things. The pressure is normal and you have to deal with that at all big clubs - it's down to us to bring a good performance and win the game.

Ange Postecoglou spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon in the Netherlands ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League round of 16 first leg tie at AZ Alkmaar and we've got a full transcript with everything he said.

Postecoglou will delivered an update on Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke, who are all back from injury and in training ahead of the game. The Australian also clarified what happened to Dejan Kulusevski, with the Swede having suffered a foot foot injury and wearing a protective boot in recent days.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold was among those at the AFAS Stadion putting the questions to Postecoglou. Here's a full transcript with every word the Spurs head coach said at the press conference in the Netherlands.

What's the latest team news and who hasn't travelled?

So in terms of who hasn't travelled… Deki Kulusevski is the only one. He's got a knock on the foot, he's not really sure when to be honest but it's got a bit sore in the last couple of weeks but he's been able to train and play and just get through it OK. But it wasn’t getting better so we did some further investigations and no real clarity again but we're waiting on a couple of things to find out the extend of it but unlikely to be back before the international break. Nothing serious, nothing surgical or anything but he didn't travel. Ben Davies, he's close but is still doing some work back at the training ground. with Richy, and everyone here.

Can Romero, Van de Ven and Solanke start tomorrow?

We’ll see, we'll train today. Obviously they've all out for significant amount of time sop we'll see when we reintroduce them but they're all here and training today, so we'll make decisions after that.

What is your view on Argentina calling up Romero?

It’s interesting, I've been in game for 26 years, including as a national coach and one rule we know is don’t have any control over international football. Everyone knows that, I don't know why it becomes a question every time. Even if he's injured, they can call him up. So from our perspective, it's not of our concern. Our concern is to get him up and running and hopefully get him some game time. If he's fit should go and get more game time rather than not playing for two weeks. The international side of it, people have asked me a couple of times over the last couple of days and it's almost like they're not really sure. International football is pretty, clubs don't have any control on where they're players go.

You could have a view on whether he should play?

What's the point in that?

Because you want to protect him?

OK, but if I express that, it doesn’t change anything. And at the end of the day, if he’s fit, then him getting some games is good for us because he’s missed a lot of football. We can’t dictate to players whether they should go with their national teams or not. I never have and that’s been my view my whole career and I won’t stop now.

Is Van de Ven now fit fit?

Fit fit, I don’t know what that means, but he’s training. We’re mindful that the last time, whilst he came back and played half a game, we still felt and he still felt like he just didn’t feel right. So we’ve taken a different sort of road with him this time. He feels really good. He’s been training with us for a good week and a half and is in a good space. I guess it’s just about a timing thing now and how we reintroduce him.

We’ll probably be gauged by how he feels in terms of what he does actually getting out there and having a runabout, but in terms of training and how he looks at training and how he feels, he feels very, very confident that once he’s back in the team he’ll be all good.

Yves Bissouma was at a ski resort earlier this week, so you gave them days off?

Seriously, what sort of question is that? No I didn’t, we were training but he decided to go skiing… come on mate, you’re better than that!

What's your view on if he did go skiing?

I don’t worry about those things, mate. They’re adults, they’re human beings, they had a couple of days off, they can choose to use that time as wisely as they can to help them be ready for what’s in store for us. You kind of hope that they’re sensible about these things and go about whatever they do in a manner that befits the position they hold, but I have no concerns and he’s fine.

This competition feels good for Spurs and has been in the past, do you feel like it's there for you?

I'm not sure what there for me is, but it's a competition we obviously want to do well in. We've got ourselves in a good position, we're in the round of 16. We've got two tough games against AZ and that's the first thing to overcome. You're right, the club hasn't in recent years done well in this competition, but it's a major European competition, we're in the last 16 and for us there's an opportunity there and we'll see how far we can go in it.

Would you say you've got more belief in the squad now to go all the way in the competition than you had at the start of the season?

It’s hard to say, we obviously started the season feeling pretty good about where we were at, but obviously it hasn't transpired that way. You just don’t know. Certainly a combination of things, players, significant players coming back for us but also just having the opportunity to train with the whole group has been really valuable to us. I think the time off and players coming in, having time off and scheduling things better, means we're in a good place certainly to tackle things ahead, so certainly from that perspective.

Probably a month back we were really struggling, with no players and no recovery, so from our perspective the past few weeks have really been good for training, recovery and just the level of intensity we can put into preparing for games.

There's going to be a lot of focus on Micky and Cristian and when you put them back in, there's not a lower tempo game for you to put them back in for?

I never think about it that way. I don’t know what lower tempo game is, every game players know they have to come in and perform. It's more just making sure they're ready. For us, I've always felt our training is a real good preparation for the way we play, the best preparation for the way we play and the fact Romero, Dom and Micky have been able to train with us at the usual intensity we train at rather than what is had been is good indicator for me about whether they'll be able to cope.

Do you sense a real hunger in the squad not to prove people wrong but to finish the season well?

Yeah I think it is fair to say the boys really understand there is a great opportunity for us. I think they’ve appreciated the fact that the guys who have been playing through are now able to recover and train and prepare themselves better for games. That’s coincided with seeing their team-mates come back and certainly the guys that have been out injured, we’ve already seen with guys like Vic, Brennan, Madders to a lesser extent (due to time out) but Wilson, Destiny, they’ve come back with a real hunger and desire to help the team because I think they’ve all been frustrated to sit on the sidelines and see how difficult it has for the group of players who have been playing. They’ve just wanted to help and now they get that opportunity. Again, I think you sense that in the group that they appreciate they have some support and some help. There is a platform there for us to hopefully get back to playing our football and seeing how far we can progress.

It is important to silence the home crowd early tomorrow?

Yeah, it will be a tough challenge. They did really well (last time). We obviously played Galatasaray away and they’re a very good side, especially in European football, but the key for that tie was how they (AZ) played at home. They set it up and with us tomorrow night, we’ve got to make sure whatever happens at the end of the game we’ve still got an opportunity to go back to Tottenham and win the tie. We understand with the home support, I’ve been here with Celtic in a Europa game so I know the experience of it and they’re a good side, but we’ve got to make sure we play our football and dictate the tempo of the game to make sure we take a result back to Tottenham.

Dejan Kulusevski Tottenham injury update issued by Ange Postecoglou as three players left behind

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Dejan Kulusevski is unlikely to be back before the international break due to a foot injury. Following reports of an issue for the Spurs star, the Swede posted a photo of himself wearing a protective boot on his left foot on his Instagram account on Tuesday evening.

Kulusevski has featured in all 42 of Tottenham's games this season but that record will now come to an end because of his injury. Prior to the first international break of 2025 taking place, Tottenham face Bournemouth and Fulham in the Premier League in addition to the Europa League round of 16 double-header against AZ Alkmaar.

In the Netherlands to preview Thursday evening's game at AFAS Stadion, Postecoglou provided an injury update and revealed all on Kulusevski.

"In terms of haven’t travelled, Deki Kulusevski is the only one," the Australian told football.london. "He got a knock on the foot and he's not sure when really. He’s been able to train and play over the last few weeks.

"We’ve done some further investigations and no real clarity. Unlikely to be back before the international break, but nothing serious and no surgery or anything. Ben Davies is also back at the training ground with Richarlison."

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke could all possibly feature in Thursday's game against AZ after making the trip to the Netherlands with the rest of the squad. Asked if the trio are in a position to start, Postecoglou said: "We’ll see. They’ve all been out for a significant amount of time so we’ll see when we introduce them."

Tottenham squad for AZ Alkmaar confirmed as Ange Postecoglou handed triple injury boost

Description

Ange Postecoglou has been handed a triple boost for Tottenham's huge Europa League first leg clash against AZ Alkmaar. Spurs currently sit thirteenth in the Premier League table, and 11 points off the top six, which likely means much of the focus will be on progressing in Europe.

Injuries have derailed much of the 2024/25 campaign but Postecoglou has been handed some big boosts in recent weeks and more are expected. Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario have all made an impact in the last few weeks after missing periods of action through injury.

Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke are yet to return but all three have been pictured back in training with Postecoglou recently hinting they could be back for the first leg in the Netherlands.

"With the injured guys, nothing has really changed," the Spurs boss admitted ahead of the game at home to Manchester City last week. "They are still progressing and training on and off with us. Hopefully over the next 7-10 days reintroduction."

And Postecoglou's comments look to have proven correct with all three players captured heading onto the plane heading overseas on Wednesday evening. A video uploaded to the club's official channels also showed James Maddison, Archie Gray, Brennan Johnson and Kevin Danso travelling along with academy goalkeeper Aaron Maguire.

Romero and Solanke were clearly shown in that footage while Van de Ven was the cover image for the club's article confirming their travelling squad.

Ben Davies and Dejan Kulusevski were two Spurs players not seen however, with the former recently suffering an issue.

Postecoglou then confirmed the duo would be absent because of injury. In terms of haven’t travelled, Deki Kulusevski is the only one. He got a knock on the foot and he's not sure when really," he admitted in a press conference.

He’s been able to train and play over the last few weeks. We’ve done some further investigations and no real clarity. Unlikely to be back before the international break, but nothing serious and no surgery or anything. Ben Davies is also back [home] at the training ground with Richarlison."

Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Danso are holding press conferences on Wednesday afternoon in the Netherlands ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League round of 16 first leg tie at AZ Alkmaar.

Spurs' season now mainly revolves around the European competition as it is their only remaining route to silverware. Tottenham face an AZ side that overcame Galatasaray emphatically over two legs in the play-off phase and includes former Spurs striker Troy Parrott up front with the young Irishman having enjoyed a goal-laden season in the Netherlands.

Postecoglou will deliver an update on Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke, who are all back from injury and in training ahead of the game. The Australian will also clarify what has happened to Dejan Kulusevski, with the Swede having suffered a foot injury and wearing a protective boot in recent days.

The Spurs head coach will be joined by Kevin Danso, who will also speak to reporters, before a training session at the AFAS Stadion which will be open at the start to the media.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to both Postecoglou and Danso in Alkmaar and also watching the training session. Scroll down for his latest updates from the press conference in the Netherlands.

Dejan Kulusevski alternatives for Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham set for injury timeline update

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Dejan Kulusevski's injury timeline should all become clear on Wednesday evening when Ange Postecoglou takes his seat in front of the assembled media. Facing AZ Alkmaar 24 hours later in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie, the Spurs boss will preview the game and also issue an injury update.

Spurs have received a boost going into the European showdown in Alkmaar with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke all taking part in first-team training at Hotspur Way. However, Kulusevski may now take his place in the treatment room due to a foot injury.

The Swede uploaded a photo to his Instagram account on Tuesday and a protective boot was visible on his left foot. In a season where the north London club have had to deal with a host of different injuries, Kulusevski has been a constant in the team and featured in every single Spurs match in the 2024/25 campaign up until now.

That proud run looks set to come to an end and it's not exactly clear yet when he will be back on the pitch for Spurs. One thing for certain is that a break away from first-team action will allow him to return to full fitness after his recent comments about playing when not in an ideal state.

"It's difficult, of course, because first of all, it’s too many games. You go out and play some games where you feel 40-50%, and that’s not how it’s supposed to be," he said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"But then also, like you said, if you have injuries and you don’t have enough players, then it really gets difficult. So, of course, it’s annoying because, in the end, you just want to play football on normal terms, you know? But you can’t do that, so you just try to do your best, and you try to use your brain more.

"Like I said before, when I notice that I can’t run up the field like I want every game, then I need to stop and start thinking more. Maybe I can save my energy here. Maybe I can try to keep the ball much more in this situation. So, you start to use your brain to keep energy."

Kulusevski has been Tottenham's standout player this season and his absence will be felt heading into some important games. Had he sustained an injury a month or two ago it potentially would have been disastrous for Postecoglou and his side.

Things have started to ease up on the injury front for Tottenham and that means the head coach does have plenty of Kulusevski alternatives to choose from, starting against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night. The Stockholm-born player's versatility has proved vital for Postecoglou this campaign and he has been utilised in a midfield three or the right of Tottenham's attack.

In terms of midfield, Spurs now have James Maddison available for selection once again and he has excelled since his return against Manchester United last month. Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall appear to be in Postecoglou's preferred midfield trio but there is also Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma to consider.

If it isn't to be a trio of Bentancur, Bergvall and Maddison lining up at AFAS Stadion this week, Sarr could be a contender to come in after making a big impact in the competition so far. Tottenham may not have Kulusevski as an option on the right-wing on Thursday night but Postecoglou has choice there right now.

Brennan Johnson returned against Manchester United and hit a double in his following game away at Ipswich Town, Wilson Odobert, who was bright on the left last Wednesday at home to Manchester City, can play from the right side and Mathys Tel has played there for Bayern Munich previously. There is also Mikey Moore to consider if the Australian wants to opt for the youthful exuberance of the 17-year-old.

Kulusevski will be a miss for Tottenham but Postecoglou has choice in both midfield and attack to replace the 24-year-old. Things are certainly better for Spurs in terms of injuries and the hope will be that their main man isn't out for too long as they eye up a strong end to the campaign and Europa League glory to go with it.
