Lucas Bergvall has been forced off after just 24 minutes of Tottenham's pre-season friendly against QPR.

The 18-year-old impressed earlier this week in Spurs' 5-1 win against Hearts and was thus rewarded with a start at Loftus Road. However, his afternoon was brought to an abrupt end with an injury forcing him to be replaced by Dejan Kulusevski.

Ange Postecoglou has also been impressed by the Sweden international with his his comments and confirmed shirt number of No.15 certainly telling of his potential plans for Bergvall. "He’s been chomping at the bit to get across here. He’s come in and looked really good in training, I’m pleased to have him as part of the group."

Bergvall was signed by Spurs earlier this year, with the teenager opting for north London over Barcelona, before he officially joined on July 1. During that period, Bergvall remained at Djurgarden in his home country with a number of exciting displays arriving in that time.

Alongside Bergvall, Tottenham have welcomed Archie Gray as a new addition with Timo Werner also re-joining the club on loan. The Lilywhites do not currently appear in advanced talks with any other signings, however there is a clear admiration for the likes of Desire Doue, Eberechi Eze and Jacob Ramsey.

With more attacking signings eyed, Postecoglou will be hoping the injury to Bergvall is not serious as he looked set for an important role in the 2024/25 season.

Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham Hotspur team to face QPR in their second official pre-season friendly of the summer.

Spurs began their pre-season preparations officially in Edinburgh on Wednesday with a 5-1 win against Heart of Midlothian with goals from Brennan Johnson, Will Lankshear, Mikey Moore and Djed Spence as well as a late own goal forced by Ashley Phillips. That performance north of the border followed a behind-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way last Saturday against League One side Cambridge United which finished 7-2 across the two halves.

New signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall both impressed during the victory in Scotland and the 18-year-old pair are involved in the starting line-up as Ange Postecoglou takes his team across the capital to face QPR, who finished 18th in the Championship last season under Marti Cifuentes.

Postecoglou has switched up his team slightly with Pape Matar Sarr back from injury, while Timo Werner comes into the first half side as does Bergvall with Dejan Kulusevski, Manor Solomon, and James Maddison on the bench for the second half. Gray and Oliver Skipp continue as makeshift centre-backs.

Here is the Tottenham team that will start the match against QPR at Loftus Road:

Austin, Porro, Gray, Skipp, Donley, Sarr, Bissouma, Bergvall, Johnson, Son (c), Werner. Substitutes: Whiteman, Gunter, Spence, Royal, Phillips, Abbott, Hall, Kulusevski, Devine, Maddison, Moore, Robson, Solomon, Lankshear, Scarlett, Veliz.

Tottenham Hotspur will ramp up their pre-season preparation on Saturday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou’s side travel to MATRADE Loftus Road where they will be put through their paces by Championship side Queen Park Rangers. The fixture will take place at Loftus Road in front of a sold-out Spurs away end.

Tottenham had a productive fixture in Edinburgh against Hearts earlier this week and wound up 1-5 winners against the Scottish side - new signing Archie Gray looked assured making his debut in the match at Tynecastle. Postecoglou fielded a strong side in Scotland with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, and Son Heung-min all starting the match.

Will Lankshear, 19, impressed scoring a goal in the friendly, with the Tottenham boss praising his efforts after the game, he said: “Will [Lankshear] was good. We kind of brought him in this last week. He's looked bright in training. He worked hard. He had a very good year last year and it's about rewarding him for that. It's about coming in and making an impact. He did well and he took his goal well.”

Can I watch QPR vs Spurs on TV?

The match will get underway at 3 pm (BST) in the UK.

Will Lankshear has caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou in training at Tottenham over the past week and backed that up with a goal in the friendly at Heart of Midlothian.

With that clinical strike 10 minutes into the second half, the 19-year-old Spurs striker immediately gave himself an advantage over the other young forwards vying for the head coach's attention in Dane Scarlett and Alejo Veliz. football.london reported this week that Lankshear had been the standout striker in training at Hotspur Way following his 32-goal season last time out and he capped that off with his goal in Scotland, something not many young strikers manage for the first team in pre-season at the club.

"He was good. We kind of brought him in in this last week and yeah he has looked bright in training," said Postecoglou. "He works hard and I thought he took his goal well tonight. He had a very good year last year so it’s about rewarding that. With all the young guys it’s about the game doesn’t stand still. Whatever you did last year it’s about coming in this year and making an impact.

"Our two new signings are both 18 years old so there’s a measure there for our 18 year olds. Just because you are here doesn’t mean you get any kind of advantage apart from the fact you are in front of us every day. He deserved his chance today, trained well, took his goal well and I’m pleased for him."

Our Tottenham reporters Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest discussed Lankshear's performance and future in the latest episode of their podcast Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham as well as the displays of new signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, along with goalscoring 16-year-old Mikey Moore and forgotten man Djed Spence, who netted a goal himself and laid on the assist for Lankshear.

Former Tottenham transfer chief Fabio Paratici could face trial date over Juventus dealings

Description

Tottenham's former managing director of football Fabio Paratici could be set for time in court in Italy after Rome's public prosecutor's office requested a referral to trial for the allegations surrounding Juventus and potential capital gains and wage manipulation.

Last April, Paratici had to step down from his position at Spurs in the wake of investigations into what had happened during his time in Turin and was handed a 30-month ban from the Italian football federation. Juventus had been accused of fixing their balance sheets by artificial gains from club transfers and following the Italian football federation's investigation into the club, Paratici was handed the longest ban of all the 11 charged former and current Juventus executives, one that was then extended worldwide by FIFA.

Juventus received a 10-point deduction and were excluded from European competition for the 2023/24 season. Paratici lost his appeal against that Italian ban in April and he then resigned from Tottenham. However, FIFA then lifted parts of his ban which meant he could work behind the scenes on a consultancy basis for Spurs, who had since appointed Johan Lange as technical director to take on much of Paratici's former role.

In January this year, Ange Postecoglou spoke about being in contact occasionally with the 52-year-old Italian around that transfer window.

"Obviously I know Fabio and every now and then we'll exchange messages or calls. He's a smart guy and you can see that he's got a great eye for talent but within the workings of the club and what I do, I don't have that kind of engagement," said the Tottenham head coach. "Not just with Fabio but with most people. It's more about what the priority is right now, this week, and my focus is on the football and the football department."

Now Paratici faces further potential problems back home in Italy regarding his time at Juventus, where he spent 11 years as chief football officer, as through a further part of the Prisma investigation, prosecutors have referred their case to go to trial. It is part of the investigation into alleged capital gains and suspicious manoeuvres on salaries paid to footballers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The case took a big turn on November 26, 2021 when the Guardia di Finanza searched Juventus' offices in Turin and Milan and later Rome. Then in September last year, the investigation into the club was switched from Turin to prosecutors in Rome with Italian media reporting on ten charges against the figures within the club, depending on their positions, including stock market manipulation, obstruction of supervision and false invoicing.

Andrea Agnelli, the former president of Juventus, Pavel Nedved, Maurizio Arrivabene and Paratici could now all face a trial after a request for indictment, with prosecutors Giorgio Orano and Lorenzo Del Giudice handling the investigation. Reports suggest that there has also been separation ordered for two counts when it comes to Paratici as at that time he was no longer part of Juventus as he had moved on to Tottenham.

Tottenham set for huge fight due to Pep Guardiola after Klopp and Southgate rejections

Tottenham Hotspur could have a huge fight to keep Ange Postecoglou if Pep Guardiola walks away from Manchester City.

Postecoglou has been linked with a move to the Citizens ever since Guardiola hinted he may walk away from the Etihad Stadium when his deal expires in July 2025. It is not the first time the Australian has been rumoured to be a contender for another top job.

Shortly after Jurgen Klopp announced he would be departing Liverpool, Postecoglou was asked about stories he was being considered as a replacement. The former Celtic boss did not indulge those rumours, immediately saying he was happy at Spurs.

Most recently, he found himself fending off questions about the prospect of becoming the England manager, now Gareth Southgate has resigned. Again, he simply said his focus is solely on building on Tottenham's fifth-placed finish last season.

However, various reports understand a potential vacancy at City would tempt Postecoglou into a move. If Guardiola was to walk away from the reigning Premier League champions, Tottenham could struggle to hold onto Postecoglou.

The Telegraph reports that Tottenham are confident Postecoglou will not be swayed by the England job. However, it also suggests that the only role that would tempt the 58-year-old would be City.

With Guardiola openly contemplating his future at City, Tottenham could be feeling the heat. Spurs narrowly missed out on a top-four finish last season, but their fan base has been boosted by the attacking football Postecoglou has brought to the club.

They are gearing up for another shot at Champions League qualification and silverware. When asked about the prospect of potentially abandoning any current plans to manage the Three Lions, Postecoglou said: "I was having a nap this afternoon. I have no idea. I'm the Tottenham manager and I'm determined to bring success to this club. That's where my focus is totally."

He similarly dismissed rumours linking him to Liverpool last February. He said: "I may be on a shortlist. I don't think I want to say anything about that because I don't think that's ever going to enter my brain space for what my priorities in life and profession right now."

As for the City job, questions haven't been raised yet. However, it's clear that Guardiola hasn't made up his mind about staying at the Etihad Stadium past his current contract's expiration in 2025.

After he won his fourth Premier League title, Guardiola said: "The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But [after] eight or nine years we will see."

Djed Spence and the seven Tottenham players looking to change Ange Postecoglou's transfer plans

Description

Plenty of Tottenham Hotspur players are expected to head out of the door this summer either permanently or on loan but which ones could get a late reprieve?

Last summer Giovani Lo Celso was the main name that everyone expected to head off from the club but instead Ange Postecoglou took a shine to the Argentina international and he remained for the campaign, albeit still not getting the amount of game time at Spurs that he would have wanted.

This summer, Tanguy Ndombele, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Joe Rodon, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga have already left the club with more set to follow them through the exit door either permanently or through loan moves, including the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Lo Celso as both seek regular football next season with their contracts reaching their final 12 months.

We've taken a look at whether any first team players or those around Postecoglou's squad have the chance of changing their likely exit route out of the north London club.

Djed Spence

The right-back, who turns 24 next month, has played just 43 minutes for Tottenham since signing two years ago. He has had three loans during that time to Rennes, Leeds and Genoa since, getting far more game time than he's had in N17.

When he returned between his Leeds and Genoa loan spells last season, Spence was sent to train with the U21s rather than the first team. So it was something of a surprise when he was handed 45 minutes by Postecoglou on Wednesday evening against Hearts in the first friendly. Not only that but Spence played very well, scoring a goal and providing an assist for Will Lankshear while acting as a guiding figure to the younger players.

Genoa have made no secret of the fact that they are keen to bring the full-back to Italy permanently but have yet to meet Tottenham's valuation of the player. Other clubs have also shown an interest in the young right-back.

Postecoglou praised Spence after the game, but his words were not exactly a ringing endorsement of the defender sticking around.

"Djed did well. He has had a tough couple of years. He is training with us and I think with all of the players they are here with us at the moment and when they are here with us I treat them as Tottenham players unless something suddenly changes," said the Australian. "He was good tonight. Took his goal well, he contributed well and got an assist."

The lack of defensive players currently available means Spence, who can play on the right or left, could well get a previously unexpected place on the tour for Tottenham's three matches in Japan and South Korea next week and then it's down to him to continue to make his mark.

Emerson Royal

This decision likely rests more with AC Milan than it does with Postecoglou although the Spurs boss will have the final say on the Brazilian's future.

Emerson has always been a willing and versatile member of the Australian's squad over the past year but he admitted recently that he had spoken to Postecoglou about his lack of starts last season.

Milan formally offered just £8.4million (€10million) for Emerson Royal, having already had that number turned down in a verbal offer. Spurs want at least £16.8million (€20million) for the Brazilian but if they do not receive that, with Dortmund and Saudi Pro League clubs interested, then Postecoglou probably wouldn't devastated to have him around for squad cover, although that's not what the player wants.

Sergio Reguilon

Of the senior first team players, we'd put Reguilon in the drawer marked 'least likely to stick around'. He and his fellow Spaniard Bryan Gil have been training with Tottenham but neither travelled for the match in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

After loans at Manchester United and Brentford, following a difficult injury-ravaged season at Atletico Madrid the previous year, Reguilon is unlikely to change Postecoglou's mind on him but that doesn't mean he won't be trying behind the scenes.

The tour squad list will give us a good indication of which first teamers are considered part of the plans under Postecoglou and with the lack of defenders available, Reguilon's absence would speak volumes.

Will Lankshear

The case with 19-year-old Will Lankshear looked pretty straight forward earlier this month - a talented young striker given a new five-year deal with the view that he probably needed a loan move to get the senior minutes to really develop him into the player many expect he can become. The number of Championship and League One clubs all showing interest only further backs that up about a teenager who scored 32 goals last season.

However, the teenager then had an absolute stormer of a week in training, impressing Postecoglou and his coaches to such a degree that he was handed the task of starting the second half against Hearts and duly scored a lovely goal just 10 minutes in.

If Lankshear continues to work hard in training and in the next friendly against QPR on Saturday then he might just grab a spot on the Asia tour and then who knows what happens with the season ahead if the teenager scores another goal or two along the way.

Alejo Veliz

Lankshear's pre-season form could directly affect Veliz's place in the squad for the coming season. The young Argentine scored his first Premier League goal last season for the club but then suffered an injury before heading off on a near pointless loan at Sevilla where he barely played.

He picked up a bloody nose after replacing Lankshear on Wednesday night which was so bad he had to be replaced himself by Dane Scarlett. Spurs' need to keep within their foreign player limits in their squad might mean another loan move for Veliz makes more sense in the season ahead, especially if Lankshear continues to sparkle.

Jamie Donley

Nobody expected Jamie Donley to start this pre-season as a left-back, but that's exactly what he's been doing for the past couple of matches, at Hearts and in the behind-closed-doors training ground friendly against Cambridge United. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has done really well in the makeshift role.

It's unlikely that it's going to be a full-time gig for Donley as really good wingers would have a field day taking on an attacking teenager trying to play as a full-back for the first time.

His versatility at least continues to put him in the eye-line of Postecoglou though and a tour squad place will likely beckon because of that. Then a decision will have to be made over a loan move which surely looks more likely at this point.

Ashley Phillips

Another 19-year-old and Phillips is the only available senior centre-back right now at the club with Radu Dragusin, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero not back from their post-international rest, while Alfie Dorrington is not expected to return to action following his hamstring surgery until next month or even potentially September.

That should hand Phillips plenty of game time, although he might have been disappointed to see midfielders Archie Gray and Oliver Skipp played at centre-back to start the game at Hearts, even if he did play the entire second 45 minutes in the position and capped it off by forcing an own goal.

The big teenager was named Plymouth's Young Player of the Season after a terrific six months or so there and Postecoglou must decide whether another loan will serve him best or whether it's time to have him in around the centre-backs for the busy season ahead.

Alfie Devine

This time last year Devine was the wonderkid everyone was looking at within Tottenham as he impressed Postecoglou in pre-season. That brought loan moves to Port Vale and Plymouth with differing results in League One and the Championship.

Now the 19-year-old - yes another one - has returned to a Tottenham squad that has plenty of new young talent in his central midfield position in Gray and Lucas Bergvall, while Mikey Moore is the go-to young attacking midfield talent now in the academy.

Devine was excellent under Postecoglou last summer and with his experience from that tour he will be looking to force his way back into his thinking.
