Tottenham captain Son Heung-min returned to Hotspur Way on Monday following a big farewell before his flight from South Korea at the weekend.

The Spurs skipper, who returned to the club on his birthday having turned 32 on Monday, was handed a couple of extra days on his summer holidays as South Korea's World Cup qualifiers went on a bit longer than many of his team-mates' international commitments at the end of last season.

Son had matches in Singapore and South Korea last month which ensured his international duty did not end until June 11, which was two or three days after many of his colleagues were able to head off on their holidays. That meant that while the likes of James Maddison, Ben Davies and Dejan Kulusevski were all back at Hotspur Way for testing on Saturday and then training on Sunday under Ange Postecoglou and the coaching staff, Son was granted 48 hours extra before his return.

His departure from Seoul's Incheon International Airport on Sunday was met by large crowds as fans discovered he would be flying home that day. With most fully aware that he would be spending his birthday back in the UK, he was inundated with birthday cards from those who had turned up and even blew out the candle on one cake a fan had made for him.

Korean news channels caught his departure with Star News publishing the video below of his arrival at Incheon as the fans tried to hand over their cards to the player who registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 35 Premier League games last season.

Tottenham will experience Sonny-mania again this month as the popular 32-year-old and the squad will return to Seoul for the second half of a tour to Asia that first takes in Japan and then South Korea, during which the crowds will no doubt flock again to see the Spurs and South Korea captain returning with his team-mates, as they did two years ago.

For now, Son will have met a few new faces when he arrived at Hotspur Way on Monday morning in Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. Son sent Bergvall a welcome text when he signed and may well have done the same for Gray.

"It's crazy. I'm from Sweden! He's one of the best players in the Premier League and a real legend," Bergvall told football.london in May. "He texted me after I signed. It was really kind of him because he was at the Asian Cup and I think it was really something for him to do that when he was so busy. He's a really nice, kind guy for writing to me and making me feel comfortable."

Tottenham have already shown they can seal quick Desire Doue transfer ahead of Chelsea and Man Utd

Description

Desire Doue is a wanted man this summer after making quite the statement on the pitch for Rennes over the past two seasons. football.london reported in June that the 19-year-old is one of those on Tottenham's attacking midfield shortlist ahead of the new term.

That strong interest in Doue has not diminished but Spurs certainly will not have it all their own way if they do indeed launch a move for the versatile attacker. Bayern Munich and PSG have been heavily linked with the youngster, with Manchester United and Chelsea also mentioned in regards to Doue.

A number of talented players have come through the system at Rennes in recent years to seal big-money transfers elsewhere, including Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid, and Doue looks set to follow in the French international's footsteps in the not too distant future. Contributing with four goals and five assists in his 31 Ligue 1 games last term, the Angers-born player would give Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham options as he is capable of playing on the right flank and in a central role as well as his natural position on the left-wing.

Interested clubs may well want to press ahead with a move for Doue sooner rather than later as he is set to represent France in this year's Olympic Games in Paris. The winger is part of a very talented squad put together by coach Thierry Henry, with players such as Michael Olise, Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette all involved.

Already playing one warm-up game ahead of the Olympics commencing, the football gets underway on Wednesday, July 24 as France take on the United States that evening. If the hosts do manage to go all the way to the final, the gold medal match will be played on Friday, August 9.

That in turns means that Doue, if he has signed for a new club by then, will miss a large chunk of pre-season friendly action before the 2024/25 league season officially kicks-off. Euro 2024 and the Copa America this summer has highlighted that transfer deals for players involved in the competition are very rare, with that potentially the case when it comes to the Olympics once the games begin in late July.

However, completing deals for players involved in the Olympics are of course still possible. After all, some Tottenham fans may remember three years that the club wrapped up the signing of Bryan Gil from Sevilla at a time when the winger was in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics.

Quite what happens with Doue over the next couple of weeks remains to be seen, but there is the possibility that more clubs could make a move for him if he goes on to star for his home country and they go all the way to win Olympic gold. Whereas in an ideal world clubs would want their new signing in through the door and part of their plans for the pre-season campaign, many would undoubtedly just be happy to get Doue to sign on the dotted line given the potential he has to go right to the top.

Speaking to TNT Sports in April, Rennes midfielder Baptiste Santamaria hailed Doue and claimed "he'll be unplayable" once he becomes more consistent and that he's already "the most gifted youngster" he's seen in his career.

"He's a very talented player with a great sense of football," he explained. "But he's still young. But he's a player who aspires to go to the biggest clubs.

"He's one of a kind: he likes to hit the ball but he's solid on his feet. Desire's technical, percussive and physical qualities are quite incredible. When he becomes more consistent, he'll be unplayable. For his age, he's the most gifted youngster I've seen in my career."

Tottenham in £12.7m transfer 'talks' as clear timeline set for Ange Postecoglou

Description

Tottenham have already been very busy in the summer transfer window with three new signings and six exits announced. Earlier this week the club's latest two deals were officially confirmed with Archie Gray arriving from Leeds United and Joe Rodon heading the other way after a superb loan spell at Elland Road.

Over the weekend, Spurs kicked off their preparations for the 2024/25 season with Gray joined by Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner as new signings spotted at Hotspur Way. Forgotten stars such as Manor Solomon and Sergio Reguilon also reported for pre-season with Destiny Udogie, who picked up an injury in April, captured for the first time in three months.

Though Postecoglou will be focused on upcoming training sessions, the Spurs boss and technical director Johan Lange are looking to bring in some more new faces over the coming weeks. Jacob Ramsey and Eberechi Eze are two attacking targets with Tottenham holding a strong interest in Desire Doue, as football.london understands.

With all three likely to cost upwards of £50million, further exits could be needed and one of those may have just gotten much closer. AC Milan are interested in signing Emerson Royal this summer with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano issuing a huge update.

On X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: "AC Milan are prepared to send new bid to Spurs for Emerson Royal as they hope to get the deal done next week.

"Proposal will be in excess of €15m (£12.7m), talks between clubs to continue. Emerson wants Milan move, as revealed in May; he’s already agreed on five year contract." With personal terms clearly not an issue, Spurs now look as though they just need to agree on the final details of a deal with AC Milan.

If Postecoglou can obtain funds in the region of £15million, it would certainly be a decent return given Emerson's mixed tenure in north London. The arrival of Gray would have also impacted his minutes in the first-team and therefore an exit is certainly the best outcome for both parties.

Though the £40million fee for Gray seems expensive, it could be considered three-quarters of that given Rodon's £10million move to Leeds. If Spurs can also secure roughly what AC Milan's next planned bid is for Emerson, it could be argued that the exciting teenager cost the club just £15million.

Archie Gray's first day at Tottenham and the figures with key role to play after Leeds transfer

Archie Gray's smile said it all as he stepped inside Hotspur Way for his first day of Tottenham training. Completing his move from Leeds United on Tuesday, the 18-year-old ace didn't have to wait long at all to meet his new Spurs teammates for the first time with pre-season training commencing at Hotspur Way on Saturday morning.

As ever, the first day back was all about the players undergoing physical and medical tests. In the training footage published by the club, a number of the Tottenham stars looked desperate to begin work with the ball as they could be seen kicking one about inside the gym.

Once they are back outside on the grass, Gray will be looking to make an immediate impact on the pitch as he bids to become a major player in Ange Postecoglou's system. The new signing will also be counting down the minutes until he can get to work with the Australian for the first time as he did mention in his club interview immediately after signing his love for Postecoglou due to the fact that he is a Celtic fan.

During his first interview as a Tottenham player, the Durham-born starlet also mentioned that already knows "many players" at the club, which in turn should hopefully help him settle into life in north London rather easily.

"When Spurs came and I had the opportunity to play in the Champions League eventually and Europa League this year I couldn't really say no," said Gray. "I know so many players that are here, not so much the first team but the young lads and another thing is that it's a massive project under Ange and it's something that I want to be a part of.

"I'm not going to lie to you, I'm a massive Celtic fan so I love him and my whole family loves him. I haven't really said this to be fair. He's also a massive factor because playing under a really good manager is really important for me as well. I've still got loads to learn because I'm only 18 so it's really important."

Upon arriving at Hotspur Way on Saturday morning, Gray entered the building alongside fellow Tottenham youngster Dane Scarlett. The former Ipswich Town loanee is someone the new signing knows from their time together playing for England Under-20s last November.

Gray started in midfield in the team that lost 3-0 against Italy, with Scarlett forming part of England's attack. During the defeat in Doncaster, Gray did in fact playing next to fellow Tottenham youngster Alfie Devine in the team's midfield. They may well get the opportunity to do likewise over the course of pre-season with Spurs having six summer friendlies on the agenda prior to commencing the new Premier League season away at Leicester City on Monday, August 19.

Sign up to our Tottenham WhatsApp service and get all the latest breaking news and in-depth stories from football.london's dedicated Tottenham writers direct to your phone by clicking this link.

Scarlett and Devine are not the only Tottenham players Gray knows from international duty. When playing three games for England Under-19s back in October, the highly-rated teenager did in fact play in the same team as four Tottenham youngsters.

Luca Gunter was in goal for Simon Rusk's side, Ashley Phillips captained the team at the back, Jamie Donley started in attack and Alfie Dorrington was one of the substitutes. Gray is also very familiar with Djed Spence after the right-back spent the first half of the 2023/24 season on loan with the player at Leeds United before heading for Italy in January as he linked up with Genoa for the remainder of the campaign.

Gray is most definitely right when he says he knows "many players" already at the club and that is only going to help him in his first few days when it comes to making a smooth transition after swapping Leeds for Tottenham. Spurs' first-team players are very much a welcoming bunch and it won't be long at all before Gray finds himself right at home, with the team's summer tour of Japan and South Korea only set to benefit him due to the amount of bonding time on offer with the rest of the squad.

In terms of settling into his new surroundings in his first few days as a Tottenham player, the likes of Scarlett, Devine, Phillips, Donley and Spence could be key figures for last season's Championship young player of the year.

5 things spotted in Tottenham's training return

Description

Saturday marked the start of pre-season for Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham players as they made their return to Hotspur Way. There may still be another week left to run at Euro 2024 and also the Copa America but the vast majority of the first-team squad are now back at the club's Enfield base as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

As ever, the first day of pre-season was all about medical and physical tests for the returning stars. Saturday also marked Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray's first day as Tottenham players following their moves from Djurgarden and Leeds United respectively.

Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo also got to work with the first-team players for the very first time after recently becoming part of Postecoglou's backroom team ahead of the new campaign. Following the return to training for Tottenham's players, football.london runs you through five things we spotted from the video footage and photos released by the club.

Ange welcomes Bergvall

In the training video released by the club, Postecoglou could be seen in conversation with Bergvall following his arrival at Hotspur Way. The pair shared a quick moment together in the car park before the head coach gave his new player a pat on the back as he headed inside for his first day of work.

Once inside, Bergvall, as probably many expected, was taken under the wing by fellow Swede Dejan Kulusevski. Following his move to the club that was officially confirmed at the start of February, the new signing has revealed on a couple of occasions since then that he's met and spoken with Kulusevski a few times and that Tottenham's No.21 has made it clear that he is there for him if he needs anything.

Fellow new signing Gray also enjoyed his first day at Hotspur Way on Saturday. Entering Tottenham's training complex with a beaming smile, the midfielder had a familiar face alongside him on day one as he was joined by fellow England youngster Dane Scarlett.

Saturday also marked Timo Werner's first day back at Hotspur Way after rejoining the club on a season-long loan deal from RB Leipzig.

Returning faces

The start of Tottenham's pre-season campaign also meant that those who spent last campaign out on loan were also back with their Spurs teammates. Alejo Veliz was back for the first day of pre-season training after his time with Sevilla in the second half of last season and Sergio Reguilon also returned following his Brentford loan move.

Djed Spence was another to get down to business at Hotspur Way, with Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips also back in Tottenham training gear after finishing the 2023/24 term by helping Plymouth Argyle retain their place in the Championship.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the quintet ahead of the new season as moves away could once again come to fruition. It may be permanent moves for Reguilon and Spence as they don't appear to be in Postecoglou's plans, with loan deals potentially on the table for Veliz, Devine and Phillips unless the head coach wants them to be part of his squad for the new Premier League season.

Those missing

Postecoglou didn't have a full complement of first-team players at Hotspur Way on the first day of pre-season training due to the international football currently being played. Micky van de Ven is now Tottenham's last remaining participant at Euro 2024 after the Netherlands set up a semi-final showdown against England following a 2-1 win over Turkey on Saturday evening.

Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were involved in the competition with their respective nations but have since departed Germany, with the trio now enjoying their summer break before returning to Tottenham's base at a later date. Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso will also return later on this summer after helping Argentina progress to the semi-finals of the Copa America.

They have been joined in the final four by Rodrigo Bentancur's Uruguay, who beat Brazil on penalties in their quarter-final tie on Saturday night. There is now the possibility of the trio coming up against each other in the showpiece finale next weekend as they are on opposite sides of the draw.

Son Heung-min also didn't appear to be in the training footage or photos released by the club. As some of the players filter back to training at different times due to their international commitments this summer, Son may well have been given a few extra days rest as his last game of the 2023/24 season came on June 11 as South Korea beat China 1-0.

Donley and Moore present

A handful of Tottenham's youngsters may be given their chance on the club's pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea this summer as has been the case in years gone by. Jamie Donley and Mikey Moore will certainly be looking to make an impact in Spurs' six summer friendlies if pitch time does come their way.

The academy duo did go on to feature under Postecoglou on a couple of occasions last term and they could well go on to become big players for the club in the years ahead if they continue to progress at their current rate. The duo were spotted together putting in the work at the club's base as they underwent their medical and physical tests on the first day back.

Solomon spotted

It is a huge summer coming up for Manor Solomon as he looks to get back on the pitch for the Lilywhites. Making the move to north London this time last year and featuring regularly during the first month of the campaign, the winger was limited to only six appearances for the club due to a knee injury.

Solomon will be desperately hoping that his back luck is behind him as he looks to make a telling impact for the football club. If fit, the 24-year-old will be intent on making his mark in the club's pre-season friendlies as he looks to force his way into Postecoglou's starting XI come August.

Solomon did arrive at Hotspur Way with a big grin on his face and he could be later seen in the training images undergoing his physical tests in the gym.

New Man City 115 Premier League charges hearing prediction emerges as Arsenal await outcome

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been told that Manchester City's clash with the Premier League could drag on until 2026. In February 2023, the English top flight charged Pep Guardiola's side with 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations.

These include accusations that the club failed to provide accurate financial information and failed to cooperate with investigations spanning nine seasons (2009/10 to 2017/18). Manchester City strongly deny any wrongdoing, and the case is set to be heard by an independent commission later this year.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness described the case as a 'very tricky situation' that could 'damage' the Premier League brand. He said: "There are two cases – the Man City legal challenge, and the 115 charges.

"With appeals, this could drag on for another two seasons. This is a very tricky situation to solve, and there has to be some way that this can be got through.

"People just don’t want it to drag on, they don’t need that. It affects the Premier League brand considerably. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has got to think about his points about the top six having more say. Here is one of the top six potentially damaging the whole Premier League more than anything else.

"If they want that responsibility, they’ve got to show responsibility and not galivant around shouting about a European Super League. Right now, these clubs are completely absent from any leadership position."

Speaking on the 'We’re Not Really Here' podcast by BBC Radio Manchester last month, Kieran Maguire was asked whether there's a chance that City and the Premier League agree on a settlement before the hearing. The football finance expert said: "It would certainly save a lot of money on behalf of both sides.

"It could mean that both parties could claim a victory, but I think in terms of public opinion and the reaction there's likely to be from both the media, and I suspect from other clubs, it's not really something that would be palatable to the Premier League nor City."

A portion of the Tottenham squad were back at Hotspur Way on Saturday, July 6 to kick off preparations for the 2024/25 season. Though the most recent campaign only ended in late May, Spurs are already beginning pre-season training before jetting off to South Korea later this month.

The likes of Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur are still in action at the European championships and Copa America, respectively. Meanwhile Guglielmo Vicario, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Radu Dragusin are still a few weeks off returning having all been knocked out of Euro 2024 at the last-16 stage.

Though there were several recognisable faces not back at Tottenham's training ground this past weekend, returning loanees and new signings were among the players spotted. In the 30-second clip uploaded to the club's social media accounts, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Timo Werner were all captured.

While Gray and Werner both signed this summer, Bergvall was announced as a new signing back in February though he only officially became a Tottenham player earlier this week. Werner meanwhile has re-joined the club on another loan spell from RB Leipzig with Gray signed in a £40million deal from Leeds United.

Sergio Reguilon, Djed Spence, Ashley Phillips and Alejo Veliz were also recorded heading through main reception after all four spent the latter half of last season on loan. Two forgotten stars will have also began preparations for the new campaign with Manor Solomon and Destiny Udogie back in the building to continue their rehabilitation from injury.

In the final weeks of last season, Udogie suffered a quadricep injury which required surgery to fix while Solomon has missed the last nine months courtesy of a plaguing knee problem. In the video, Udogie was walking without an obvious limp which suggests he could play a role in pre-season.

The Italy international was also barely recognisable courtesy of his new haircut with his signature braids swapped out for a skin fade. James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson Pape Matar Sarr, Pedro Porro, Oliver Skipp, Fraser Forster, Bryan Gil were others back in for testing before holding their first official training session on Sunday.

Five transfers Tottenham can complete this summer with Pedro Neto in and dream £25m deal agreed - Football.London
Description

Tottenham look set for a busy eight weeks in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 season. Ange Postecoglou has already made two new signings, with the return of Timo Werner on a season long loan and the addition of Archie Gray from Leeds United in a £40million deal.

With Spurs back in Europe, Postecoglou is understandably keen to add depth to his squad with technical director Johan Lange working tirelessly in the market. Compared to other Premier League club's, the Lilywhites are in an excellent financial position and are therefore likely to make further marquee signings.

Because of that, numerous players have been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey is one summer target with Tottenham keen to add some homegrown stars to their squad, which is one of the reasons interest in Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah has emerged.

Tottenham are also looking at talent from elsewhere with several players being eyed who currently play their football in France. With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at five transfers Tottenham could complete before the August 30 transfer deadline.

Desire Doue

Tottenham have a strong interest in Rennes' versatile midfielder Desire Doue, football.london understands. The 19-year-old is fresh off his breakthrough season in senior football having managed four goals and six assists from 43 appearances.

Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been linked to the exciting teenager, though it appears Spurs are in the driving seat to sign him. With so much interest in Doue, Rennes are understandably keen to keep hold of their academy graduate and have thus reportedly set his asking price at €60million (£50.8m).

Conor Gallagher

Tottenham are long-term admirers of Chelsea's Gallagher and could acquire his services this summer. Though the England international does not appear keen to leave the Blues, with his contract expiring in 2025, the club want to sell him over the coming weeks.

Postecoglou is a big fan of the midfielder, with it also clear Spurs need to recruit in the engine room and Gallagher is seen as the perfect addition for a number of reasons. Firstly, having come through Chelsea's academy, Gallagher can be classed as a homegrown player which will significantly help Spurs when it comes to submitting their respective Premier League and Europa League squads.

With Spurs also likely aware of the predicament Chelsea find themselves in, that can potentially be used as a bargaining chip. Reports have also suggested Gallagher wouldn't be against running down his contract which could see him leave on a free transfer in 12 months.

Jonathan David

While Richarlison enjoyed some great form in spells last season, it is no secret that Tottenham are interested in signing another striker. Lille's Jonathan David, also of interest to Chelsea, has been strongly linked with a Premier League move in recent years with those links emerging again this summer.

The Canada international scored 26 goals last season which helped Lille finish fourth in Ligue 1. Amid interest from England, David is expected to depart Lille over the coming weeks with for as little as £20million.

The 24-year-old is currently at Copa America in the United States of America with Canada and is set to play in the semi-finals against Argentina after his nation beat Venezuela on penalties in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Trevoh Chalobah

Alongside Gallagher, Chelsea are also looking to sell Chalobah and Tottenham could be the ones to benefit. In order to raise more funds from selling homegrown players, the defender is expected to depart his boyhood club with Chelsea setting his asking price at just £25million.

Considering his Premier League experience, it would be an excellent deal if Spurs can get it done at that price with the 25-year-old starring in Chelsea's final games of the 2023/24 campaign where they won eight games.

Pedro Neto

Wolves star Pedro Neto seems destined for a transfer away from Molineux with Tottenham one possible option. The 24-year-old has also been strongly linked to Arsenal, though they appear to be looking elsewhere given his recent injury record.

As such, Spurs could have a free run at signing the exciting winger with Wolves' financial worries well-documented. However, fresh off selling Max Kilman to West Ham for £40million, Gary O'Neil's side have been given a healthy cash injection which could alter their Neto transfer stance.
