Tottenham look set for a busy eight weeks in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 season. Ange Postecoglou has already made two new signings, with the return of Timo Werner on a season long loan and the addition of Archie Gray from Leeds United in a £40million deal.

With Spurs back in Europe, Postecoglou is understandably keen to add depth to his squad with technical director Johan Lange working tirelessly in the market. Compared to other Premier League club's, the Lilywhites are in an excellent financial position and are therefore likely to make further marquee signings.

Because of that, numerous players have been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey is one summer target with Tottenham keen to add some homegrown stars to their squad, which is one of the reasons interest in Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah has emerged.

Tottenham are also looking at talent from elsewhere with several players being eyed who currently play their football in France. With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at five transfers Tottenham could complete before the August 30 transfer deadline.

Desire Doue

Tottenham have a strong interest in Rennes' versatile midfielder Desire Doue, football.london understands. The 19-year-old is fresh off his breakthrough season in senior football having managed four goals and six assists from 43 appearances.

Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been linked to the exciting teenager, though it appears Spurs are in the driving seat to sign him. With so much interest in Doue, Rennes are understandably keen to keep hold of their academy graduate and have thus reportedly set his asking price at €60million (£50.8m).

Conor Gallagher

Tottenham are long-term admirers of Chelsea's Gallagher and could acquire his services this summer. Though the England international does not appear keen to leave the Blues, with his contract expiring in 2025, the club want to sell him over the coming weeks.

Postecoglou is a big fan of the midfielder, with it also clear Spurs need to recruit in the engine room and Gallagher is seen as the perfect addition for a number of reasons. Firstly, having come through Chelsea's academy, Gallagher can be classed as a homegrown player which will significantly help Spurs when it comes to submitting their respective Premier League and Europa League squads.

With Spurs also likely aware of the predicament Chelsea find themselves in, that can potentially be used as a bargaining chip. Reports have also suggested Gallagher wouldn't be against running down his contract which could see him leave on a free transfer in 12 months.

Jonathan David

While Richarlison enjoyed some great form in spells last season, it is no secret that Tottenham are interested in signing another striker. Lille's Jonathan David, also of interest to Chelsea, has been strongly linked with a Premier League move in recent years with those links emerging again this summer.

The Canada international scored 26 goals last season which helped Lille finish fourth in Ligue 1. Amid interest from England, David is expected to depart Lille over the coming weeks with for as little as £20million.

The 24-year-old is currently at Copa America in the United States of America with Canada and is set to play in the semi-finals against Argentina after his nation beat Venezuela on penalties in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Trevoh Chalobah

Alongside Gallagher, Chelsea are also looking to sell Chalobah and Tottenham could be the ones to benefit. In order to raise more funds from selling homegrown players, the defender is expected to depart his boyhood club with Chelsea setting his asking price at just £25million.

Considering his Premier League experience, it would be an excellent deal if Spurs can get it done at that price with the 25-year-old starring in Chelsea's final games of the 2023/24 campaign where they won eight games.

Pedro Neto

Wolves star Pedro Neto seems destined for a transfer away from Molineux with Tottenham one possible option. The 24-year-old has also been strongly linked to Arsenal, though they appear to be looking elsewhere given his recent injury record.

As such, Spurs could have a free run at signing the exciting winger with Wolves' financial worries well-documented. However, fresh off selling Max Kilman to West Ham for £40million, Gary O'Neil's side have been given a healthy cash injection which could alter their Neto transfer stance.

man squad vs Leicester City with Desire Doue and two further transfer deals

Description

There were times last season when Ange Postecoglou had some big calls to make in terms of leaving players out of his Tottenham matchday squad. That wasn't always the case, however, with multiple injuries and suspensions leaving the Lilywhites incredibly short at times.

Tottenham do have some lofty ambitions going into the 2024/25 season and ideally the Australian needs all his players available on a consistent basis if they are to ultimately achieve their goals. The Lilywhites have already added to their squad for the upcoming season after bringing highly-rated youngsters Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray to the club on long-term deals.

Timo Werner will also be part of the squad again next season after rejoining Spurs on a season-long loan deal from RB Leipzig. More still needs to be done in the transfer market, though, in order to give Postecoglou a squad that can challenge on multiple fronts from August onwards.

So what exactly could the 20-man Tottenham matchday squad look like on the opening weekend of the Premier League season when they travel to Leicester City? football.london takes a look below.

Postecoglou should have a rather simple job in choosing Tottenham's backline for the game at the King Power Stadium providing of course that everyone is fit and available. Guglielmo Vicario will start in goal, with Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie making up the back four.

Tottenham have already strengthened in midfield this summer following the signings of both Gray and Bergvall but they could really do with adding a top-class No.6 to take them to the very next level. Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who can operate as either a No.6 or No.8, has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a standout season in which he helped the Italian side achieve Europa League glory.

An imposing figure in the middle of the park and someone who is very good on the ball and strong in terms of the defensive side of his game, the 24-year-old could flourish in the Premier League if he does go on to depart Atalanta. Staying in midfield, it is a huge season for Rodrigo Bentancur as he looks to get back to the levels he displayed prior to his ACL injury and he will be hopeful of a start at Leicester.

James Maddison will also be aiming to make a big impression at the home of his former club, especially after missing out on Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024. In attack, Postecoglou will have a choice between Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson on the right flank, with Son Heung-min very likely to get the nod on the opposite side.

Tottenham do need to sign a new striker this summer after failing to bring in a replacement for Harry Kane last August. Lille's Canada international Jonathan David is among the list of names the club have looked at in the position and he could potentially score goals for fun in Postecoglou's side after doing exactly that in Ligue 1.

On the substitutes' bench, Fraser Forster will provide cover for Vicario unless Brandon Austin nips ahead of him to become the club's No.2 this summer. Radu Dragusin will have to make do with a place on the bench for now, with Ben Davies giving Postecoglou choice at both left-back and centre-back.

New signing Gray can be an option for Spurs at right-back as well as in his natural role in the middle of the park. The possible addition of a new No.6 could mean Yves Bissouma drops down to the substitutes' bench, with Pape Matar Sarr also featuring on there if Bentancur is in the starting XI.

In attack, whoever misses out on the team out of Kulusevski and Johnson will be on the bench. Richarlison may also find himself on there if Tottenham are to splash the cash on a new striker ahead of the Monday night game at the King Power Stadium.

The bench could be completed by Desire Doue if he makes the move from Rennes to Tottenham. football.london reported last month that the French youngster is one of those on Tottenham's attacking midfield shortlist after making quite the impression in Ligue 1 with his current club.

That strong interest in the versatile player has not diminished and he would give Postecoglou plenty of choice if Spurs can lure him to N17 as he can play on either flank and also in midfield. Doue would certainly be a very exciting option to bring off the bench and a potential gamechanger.

Dream 20-man Tottenham squad vs Leicester:

Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Ederson, Bentancur, Maddison; Kulusevski, David, Son.

Subs: Forster, Gray, Dragusin, Davies, Bissouma, Sarr, Johnson, Doue, Richarlison.

Tottenham's transfer window is now up and running with more to arrive in the weeks ahead at Hotspur Way.

Archie Gray's arrival this week from Leeds United in a £40m package with Joe Rodon heading in the opposite direction means Ange Postecoglou has three new arrivals in pre-season training from this weekend with two 18-year-olds in Gray and Lucas Bergvall, who was signed in February from Djurgarden for £8.5million, as well as a returning attacker in Timo Werner. Spurs struck a deal to bring back the German from RB Leipzig for a year-long loan spell.

The addition of Gray and Bergvall in particular continue the club's attempts to build a young golden generation of talented players for the present and future to add to the likes of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr, Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson and Radu Dragusin, as well as academy products like Mikey Moore, Tyrese Hall and Jamie Donley among others.

football.london reported last month that Tottenham have a strong interest in Rennes' exciting 19-year-old attacking midfielder Desire Doue.

Postecoglou needs more experience though as well to guide those young stars and in the latest episode of their podcast Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham, our Spurs reporters Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest discuss who is likely to come through the door next at Hotspur Way as the Spurs boss looks for new signings to join in with pre-season before the club departs on tour to Japan and South Korea.

Departing Tottenham star pens heartfelt farewell to supporters after transfer

Joe Rodon has bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur following his transfer to Leeds United this week.

The 26-year-old Wales international made the permanent move to Leeds following his impressive loan spell there, as part of the £40million package that brought Archie Gray to Spurs, with the 18-year-old costing Spurs just over £25million and Rodon around £15million in the final year of his Tottenham contract.

Rodon penned a four-year deal at Leeds after making 50 appearances for the Yorkshire club across all competitions last season as they ended up on 90 points but just missed out on promotion to the Premier League following a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley.

"A huge thank you to everyone at @spursofficial," Rodon posted on his social media accounts along with photos of him with Tottenham captain Son Heung-min and his compatriots Ben Davies and Gareth Bale from recent years. "It was a pleasure to play for the club with such great teammates and I would like to thank the fans for the support they showed me throughout my time here. Now it’s time for a new adventure!"

Some of his former Spurs team-mates replied to the post, including fellow Wales international Brennan Johnson who responded "Good luck brother", Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg said "Warrior, best of luck", James Maddison added "Good luck mate" and Davies joked "Goodbye my friend. Now I'll only see you at Wales camp 5 times a year".

On returning to Leeds permanently, Rodon also posted: "So happy to be back at this great club! I’ve always felt at home here and I'm looking forward to a big season!"

In all Rodon played 24 times for Tottenham after arriving from Swansea in summer 2020, with 15 of those appearances coming in the Premier League. During those years he was loaned to Rennes in France for a season and then Leeds last time out. Now he will begin a new chapter in his career looking to take the Elland Road outfit back into the English top flight.

Ange Postecoglou's strongest Tottenham XI vs Hearts

Description

Tottenham's first pre-season friendly of the summer is now less than two weeks away. Ange Postecoglou's Spurs side start their pre-season campaign with a friendly against Scottish Premiership team Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday, July 17.

It is the first game in what is to be a very busy summer for the Lilywhites as they have six friendlies on the calendar in total. Following their match against Hearts in Edinburgh, Tottenham make the trip across London three days later to take on Championship side QPR at Loftus Road.

The team will then be jetting off to Japan for a match against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo, before then making the move to South Korea for further games against Team K League and Bayern Munich. Spurs will come up against the German side once again seven days later at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a game that will see Harry Kane and Eric Dier make their return to N17 after both linking up with Bayern last term.

Postecoglou should certainly have a very strong squad to choose from for the team's first friendly against Hearts as only a handful of players were called up to participate in the international tournaments taking place this summer. As Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will currently be enjoying a well-earned break after their Euro 2024 elimination, it could be after the Hearts game when the trio return to Hotspur Way to begin their pre-season preparations.

Postecoglou does look set to be without Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur for the Hearts game after they reached the latter stages of the Copa America, with Micky van de Ven also in the same boat after Netherlands progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Euros. New signings Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray could be involved in the Tottenham XI against Hearts and Timo Werner will also be available again after rejoining the club on a season-long loan deal from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham wonderkid transfer decision looming as clubs start to queue up to take him away

The interest in Jamie Donley is growing with every passing week to leave Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou with a decision to make this summer.

The 19-year-old was Spurs' standout academy star last season with 17 assists and eight goals for the Under-21s in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy, with another flurry of goal involvements in the Premier League Cup. Donley has been transformed in the past two years from a forward into a deeper lying playmaker in the midfield and his development has surged forward as a result.

Postecoglou rewarded his progress with minutes in the Premier League against Manchester City, Newcastle and Brentford as well as an FA Cup debut against Burnley. Donley was then among the young players taken out with the first team to play in Spurs' post-season friendly match against Newcastle in Melbourne.

While Tottenham are not believed to be willing to sell Donley, football.london understands that Luton Town, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are very keen on taking him on loan, with fellow Championship sides Oxford United and Bristol City also circling.

Their local rivals Bristol Rovers are also believed to have an interest in giving the teenager regular League One football, while former Spurs assistant manager Chris Davies is expected to keep an eye on matters with his new club Birmingham City after being impressed by Donley last season at the north London club.

Donley is set to work with Postecoglou and the first team from this weekend onwards as they return for pre-season at Hotspur Way and the teenager is expected to be involved in the coming friendlies and could be taken on Tottenham's upcoming summer tour to Japan and South Korea at the end of July.

Donley has reached the same stage as Alfie Devine did last season in impressing the first team coaches but also needing regular first team football to continue that development. After impressing Postecoglou last summer, Devine went on loan first to Port Vale in League One for the opening half of the campaign and then Championship side Plymouth Argyle from January onwards.

The other issue for Donley is that Tottenham have a large number of players who can play in Postecoglou's No.8 role, including two more 18-year-olds who arrive this summer in the shape of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, to add to options in that role that are likely to contain James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and potentially Oliver Skipp, while the club are continuing to look at other options in the transfer market.

Devine is also currently back from his loan season away while Postecoglou has been impressed by 18-year-old academy midfielder Tyrese Hall, who was on the bench against Manchester City in the penultimate Premier League game of last season and is expected to be involved in pre-season with the first team.

Then there is 16-year-old academy star Mikey Moore who has already got two Premier League appearances to his name after wowing Postecoglou in training. The teenager mostly plays further up the pitch but could play as a No.10 or No.8 as his development continues.

Moore is expected to be involved with Postecoglou's squad in pre-season. Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are circling around the youngster who technically has agreed his first professional deal with Spurs but will not officially sign it until his 17th birthday on August 11, which means he isn't locked down just yet.

The youngster is believed to be happy at Spurs and turned down most of England and Europe's top clubs last summer to remain in north London, but with that month of uncertainty ahead, it is also on Tottenham to show that Moore, despite his age, is part of their plans during this busy campaign ahead and that their summer transfer activity will not block his path and mean first team minutes will be more plentiful elsewhere over the coming season.

New Tottenham signing Archie Gray reveals his best position and admits exciting dream

New Tottenham signing Archie Gray reveals his best position and admits exciting dream - Football.London
Description

New Tottenham signing Archie Gray has admitted that he believes he's got the ability to become a Ballon d'Or winner and captain England one day.

Spurs signed the 18-year-old this week from Leeds United in a £40million package deal, which cost the north London club just over £25million plus Joe Rodon heading in the other direction. Gray played 52 times for Leeds last season, turning out at times in central midfield, with a star performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round tie at Stamford Bridge, and also spent a large chunk of the campaign in a new role at right-back.

Some have claimed that Gray will develop into a deeper-lying midfielder, but in an interview halfway through the season, the teenager admitted he believes his best position will be roving from one end of the pitch to the other.

"It’s good to learn different perspectives of the game. Playing right-back is allowing me to understand the game even more for when I go back into midfield. You see players like James Milner playing different positions every game," he told the Guardian.

"If I become anywhere near as good as him it would be unbelievable. I think my best position will be as a box-to-box midfielder but, as the game is changing, you have to be increasingly adaptable."

Gray is not lacking in confidence or self-belief either and firmly believes that he can achieve the honours available at the very top of the game.

"My childhood dream was to win the Champions League with Leeds, captain England at senior level and win a Ballon d’Or. I’m still really young, so there’s a long way to go before any of that happens, but I believe I’ve got the ability to do it," he said.

A tough pre-season with Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff awaits from this weekend onwards, but Gray already knows that the summer is the time to really catch the eye of the manager.

"My dad has always said that pre-season is the time to make a good first impression on the manager and that starts with your fitness," he said about his efforts last summer which built the foundations of his successful campaign under Daniel Farke at Leeds.

The youngster will have watched Jude Bellingham rise from the Football League to the pinnacle of the game with Real Madrid and England and Gray said that while Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi were his influences as a child, the Champions League-winning Bellingham and his own mother Giorgina are now his biggest inspirations.

"My mum works unbelievably hard; she runs marathons and trains every single day," he said. "Bellingham is definitely a player I look up to because he’s doing amazingly well. He’s shown there’s a pathway with the England system and he won’t be the last one to do it. Hopefully in the future that can happen for me too."

Tanguy Ndombele Tottenham reunion possibility emerges after summer transfer move finalised

Tanguy Ndombele Tottenham reunion possibility emerges after summer transfer move finalised - Football.London
Description

Tanguy Ndombele would only be without a football club for a matter of days after officially departing Tottenham last Sunday. Initially set to be a Spurs player until the summer of 2025 due to the six-year contract he signed after joining from Lyon in July 2019, the Lilywhites and Ndombele agreed to the mutual termination of his contract, effective from June 30, upon the conclusion of his Galatasaray loan spell.

Amid question marks over his next move after underwhelming loan spells with the Turkish giants as well as former club Lyon and Napoli, the 27-year-old has returned to his native France on a permanent basis. On Thursday evening it was confirmed that the midfielder will be playing his football for Ligue 1 side Nice from the 2024/25 season onwards after penning a two-year contract in the South of France.

After linking up with Franck Haise's team for the upcoming campaign, Ndombele, speaking to the club's official website, said: "I'm very happy that everything was wrapped up quickly, because it's important to start the pre-season with the squad. As soon as I was presented with the Nice project, I didn't hesitate.

"I'm happy and proud to join The Gym. There are great collective ambitions and I have my own challenges to overcome. The team finished fifth and will play in the Europa League. I can't wait to get to work so that we can build something great together."

Ndombele's Nice transfer does raise the possibility of an immediate Tottenham reunion as both teams will be competing in next season's Europa League. Previously split into groups of four during the group stage, the Europa League will look rather different from September with 36 teams playing in a newly-formed league phase and playing eight games at that stage of the competition.

As teams will be split into four pots of nine and then go on to be drawn against two sides from each pot in order to determine the eight fixtures, there is every chance Ndombele and Nice could be paired against Spurs. That will all become clear when the draw for the league phase is made on Friday, August 30.

The player's new club are certainly expecting Ndombele to make an impact at the Allianz Riviera once the new league season begins. Club president Jean-Pierre Rivere believes that Nice will give the midfielder the "ideal conditions to be very successful".

"During our meetings, I discovered a charming and very motivated boy," revealed Rivere. "We welcome him. All the planets were aligned for his arrival. He has a lot of talent and I am certain that he will find, with us, the ideal conditions to be very successful."

Sign up to our Tottenham WhatsApp service and get all the latest breaking news and in-depth stories from football.london's dedicated Tottenham writers direct to your phone by clicking this link.

Florian Maurice, Nice's sporting director, added: "Tanguy is a different player. It's up to us to give him the ideal framework so that he can fully express his qualities.

"He knows the very high level. He perfectly matches the profiles we are targeting and he is in the prime of life. He worked a lot before joining us, he is very determined. Our goal is to perform in all competitions. To do this, we need players of his stature."

Ndombele's competitive Nice bow could come midway through August when they travel to Auxerre on the opening weekend of the Ligue 1 season. Prior to then, Nice have a pre-season friendly against Lausanne in the calendar for next Wednesday before facing Spanish side Leganes nine days later.

When Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray will join the Tottenham players in pre-season training - Football.London
Description

Ange Postecoglou's pre-season training begins this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur as a couple of new players get to grips with their new surroundings.

Postecoglou and his coaches are expected to reconvene on Friday with the Australian having already been in and out of Hotspur Way in the past week or so on occasions. He will be joined by two new assistant coaches in Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo under newly-promoted senior assistant coach Matt Wells, along with Ryan Mason, Mile Jedinak and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch.

football.london understands that Tottenham's first team players will be back at the Enfield training complex this Saturday to undergo their various tests with the sports science staff before training sessions begin ahead of the new season on Sunday.

That will mean new 18-year-old arrivals Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall will get their first taste of the tough Postecoglou sessions in the days ahead. Tottenham brought Gray in from Leeds United as part of a £40million package, which included just over £25million plus Joe Rodon heading in the other direction. The Championship Young Player of the Year will join another highly-rated teenage wonderkid in the shape of Bergvall, following his £8.5million switch from Djurgarden in February.

"I have another pre-season. It's a double pre-season for me!" Bergvall told football.london back in May in Stockholm. "In Sweden you have three or four months of pre-season from January to April when the league starts. So I'll have another one but I'm not going to complain! I can't complain!"

Spurs have ensured that the teenager got the required time to rest before joining.

"Tottenham have done a really good job with that and have offered me a few extra days so if I want then I can take that, but I think I have two or three weeks off, so that's good," he said . "I'm going on vacation with my family and girlfriend. I'll have my last game against Hammarby and then I go on international duty for maybe 10 days and then I'll start at Tottenham on July 1 so I'll have some rest first.

"It's fine though, I love this. I love football but it's good I suppose to rest mentally and get your energy back. It's going to be a really exciting new season, with a lot of good impressions to make on a lot of new people so I have to be mentally prepared."
