Doue transfer, David deal and Chelsea agreement - Ange Postecoglou's dream 25-man Tottenham squad - Football.London
Description

Tottenham fans will be hoping that July is a very busy month for the club in the transfer market as they get their plans in place for the 2024/25 season. Having already added Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner to their squad, the Lilywhites confirmed the signing of highly-rated youngster Archie Gray from Leeds United on Tuesday morning.

The England Under-21 international will compete for a spot in Tottenham's midfield and he will also be able to provide cover at right-back. Spurs still have plenty more left to do in the summer window, including adding to the current defenders already at the club and signing a new striker to compete with Richarlison for a place in Ange Postecoglou's XI.

Tottenham have European football back on the calendar from September onwards and that means the head coach is going to need a big squad to be able to cope with the demands of the extra games. Ahead of their Europa League campaign, Spurs will need to ensure that they have sufficient numbers when it comes to non-homegrown players, association-trained players and club-trained players to comply with UEFA's requirements.

The rules do differ slightly in the Premier League but they are in line with UEFA's in terms of that you can only have a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players. At least eight players must be qualified as homegrown (someone who has 'featured for an FA-affiliated club for at least three years before turning 21') when it comes to forming the 25-man squad.

Players that are Under-21 (born on or after January 1, 2003), such as Gray and Bergvall, will not count towards the Premier League tally of 25 due to their age. With all that in mind, what could a dream 25-man squad look like for Tottenham next season? football.london takes a look below.

Goalkeepers: Vicario, Forster, Austin, Whiteman.

Tottenham shouldn't need to make any move in the transfer market this summer when it comes to the goalkeeping department. Guglielmo Vicario is firmly established as the club's No.1 and he has competition from Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman.

A loan move for Whiteman would certainly be beneficial to the 25-year-old but it would perhaps be better from a Tottenham perspective to keep him at the club for the time being to ensure that they have enough club-trained players when it comes to naming their Europa League squad.

Defenders: Porro, Walker-Peters, Dragusin, Romero, Van de Ven, Chalobah, Davies, Udogie.

Postecoglou has already said that he would like to add a centre-back this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts. Amid links with a few defenders already, including Murillo of Nottingham Forest, Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea could be a good addition due to his Premier League experience and homegrown status.

A Stamford Bridge exit may be on the cards for the 24-year-old and that could allow Spurs to potentially strike a deal with the Blues for his services. The London rivals tend not to deal with one another but Chelsea's need to bring in money this summer could mean an offer for the versatile player is too good to turn down.

Elsewhere, Kyle Walker-Peters could be a smart signing at right-back as he would be able to provide cover for Pedro Porro and also give Spurs a boost when it comes to having the required amount of club-trained players when they select their European squad. Elsewhere, Ben Davies will remain at the club and provide cover for Destiny Udogie at left-back.

Midfielders: Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur, Skipp, Gray, Hall, Bergvall, Maddison.

There should be quite a bit of movement this summer when it comes to Tottenham's midfield. Already bolstering their squad with Bergvall and Gray adding to Postecoglou's numbers for next season onwards, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso could be set to head out of the door on a permanent basis.

Question marks persist over what comes next for Oliver Skipp, especially with his homegrown and club-trained status something that could help Tottenham out in both the Premier League and Europe. Tyrese Hall may be given an opportunity next season after impressing Postecoglou and playing in the post-season friendly against Newcastle United.

Attackers: Son, Werner, Kulusevski, Johnson, Doue, Moore, Richarlison, David.

Tottenham unfortunately never replaced Harry Kane last summer and it is imperative that they add a new striker to their squad for the upcoming season. football.london reported last month that the club have complied a shortlists of forwards, with Lille's Jonathan David high on the list.

The Canadian international has more than made his mark in Ligue 1 in recent seasons and it could be time for a move elsewhere. Going on the amount of chances Tottenham create, David could score a hatful in Postecoglou's side. Remaining in Ligue 1, Spurs have been heavily linked with Desire Doue of Rennes.

The Frenchman is a very exciting prospect and he has been mentioned in regards to a summer move after a rather impressive season in his homeland. A left-winger by trade but also capable of playing on the opposite flank as well as in midfield, Doue would give Postecoglou and Spurs plenty of options.

Tottenham fans will hopefully see a bit more of Mikey Moore next season after the 16-year-old came into Postecoglou's first-team squad in the final few games of last campaign.

Tottenham told how lucky they are after Lionel Messi claimed they've got 'world's best' - Football.London
Description

Tottenham have been told they have the best centre-back in the world in Cristian Romero - just months after Lionel Messi made the same observation.

Romero’s performances in central defence have gone somewhat under the radar at Tottenham since his £42million move in 2021. That is largely due to the north London club’s overall struggles though, with ‘Cuti’ Romero’s stellar displays receiving widespread praise whenever he represents Argentina.

The 26-year-old played a key role in his nation’s Copa America win in 2021 and their long-awaited World Cup triumph a year later. And his form at the current edition of the Copa America has once more attracted praise, this time from Argentina’s U23s boss Javier Mascherano.

Mascherano, a former team-mate of Messi's, both for the national team and for Barcelona, said: "Cuti Romero is among the best centre-backs in the world, if he's not the best already. We don't know what his ceiling is.

"He has demonstrated it throughout the entire season at Tottenham. He has been a cornerstone player for the team, incredibly important, and the Tottenham coach has repeatedly praised him in big matches.

"I believe he is at an incredible level, a player with impressive abilities who continues to grow and improve. The level he is reaching is impressive."

Messi, widely considered the greatest player of all time, was even more certain of Romero’s current standing in the game. He told reporters after a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador last year: “For me, he is the best defender in the world right now. Amazing performance tonight, man of the match.”

Romero has spent three seasons with Spurs after landing Serie A’s Best Defender award in 2020/21. His tackling, aggression and passing ability make him a vital cog in Ange Postecoglou’s side, having missed just five league games last season.

The Argentine has 18 Premier League clean sheets to his name for Tottenham. And the 32-times capped defender will be eager to return to England this summer with another Copa America winners’ medal.

We simulated Archie Gray's first season for Tottenham and the youngster was incredible - Football.London
Description

Tottenham confirmed the signing of highly-rated youngster Archie Gray from Leeds United, but how could the midfielder perform in his first season for Spurs?

Ange Postecoglou has begun shaping his squad ahead of his second season as Spurs manager, with Leeds midfielder Gray being unveiled as a Spurs player. The 18-year-old has made the move to the Lilywhites for a fee between £25million and £30million, with Joe Rodon also joining Leeds in return.

Gray looked set for a switch to Brentford last week, but the deal collapsed after Spurs hijacked the move, with the Englishman signing a six-year deal with Postecoglou's side. Gray was a key player for Leeds in the Championship last season, making 52 appearances across all competitions as both a midfielder and a right-back.

So, how could Gray perform for Spurs in the 2024/25 season? Let's take a look.

Tottenham's 2024/25 season simulated with Archie Gray

To set up this simulation, we used Football Manager 2024 to move Gray to Spurs in the summer transfer window for £30million, with Joe Rodon heading to Leeds. We then simulated the 2024/25 season, and this is how the 18-year-old performed for Postecoglou's side.

Gray's potential is there for all to see, but it may come as a surprise to see just how good he was in his first season in the simulation. Postecoglou threw the midfielder into the mix from the go, and he was immense, quickly becoming one of Spurs' most important players.

Across all competitions, Gray made 44 appearances for Spurs, scoring once and assisting 11 goals in that time. He was primarily deployed as a midfielder, but the 18-year-old covered for Pedro Porro multiple times across the season. His average rating per game was most impressive, with only Cristian Romero (7.42) averaging a higher rating per game than Gray (7.39), who was the best midfielder at the club.

At the end of the 2024/25 season, Football Manager 2024 put together an overall best Spurs XI, based on performances, statistics, and other metrics. This is what it looked like:

Full Spurs best XI: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Gray, Sarr; Maddison, Kulusevski, Richarlison; Son.

After his tremendous debut campaign, Gray made the Spurs best XI, starting alongside Pape Matar Sarr in the midfield pivot. James Maddison played on the right wing while Dejan Kulusevski was deployed as an attacking midfielder, and Richarlison also made the best XI, but on the left wing rather than up top.

With Gray in the side, Spurs improved in the Premier League, with Postecolgou's side involved in a top-four battle all season long. Two defeats in their final five games made things slightly tighter than they should've been, but it all worked out ok as Spurs finished fourth.

Unfortunately for Spurs, Gray's arrival couldn't help them win a trophy, with the Lilywhites going another season without silverware. The closest they came to success came in the FA Cup, but a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in the semi-finals saw them knocked out of the competition. Their Carabao Cup journey ended in the fourth round after a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace, and Postecolgou's side were poor in the Europa League, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Monaco in the Round of 16.

Desire Doue and the 5 Tottenham transfer decisions for Ange Postecoglou after Archie Gray move

Desire Doue and the 5 Tottenham transfer decisions for Ange Postecoglou after Archie Gray move - Football.London
Description

Ange Postecoglou will have two new faces to work with when Tottenham's pre-season begins this weekend as well as a returning one but there is plenty more to do in the transfer window.

Spurs have brought Archie Gray in from Leeds United for a £40million package, which includes just over £25million plus Joe Rodon heading in the other direction. The Championship Young Player of the Year will join another highly-rated 18-year-old wonderkid in the shape of Lucas Bergvall, following his £8.5million switch from Djurgarden in February.

There is also a returning older face in Timo Werner, who had his loan spell from RB Leipzig extended by another season in May, to add another option to Postecoglou's squad for a busy season ahead with the return of continental football with the Europa League back on the menu.

There are still almost two months remaining of the summer transfer window but Postecoglou told football.london that he wants new faces in for pre-season so the club cannot afford to hang around. Here are five things that still need to be decided after Gray's move from Leeds.

How does Gray impact other moves?

Spurs were delighted to capture Archie Gray with plenty of interest in him among the Premier League and Europe's top sides. To capture his signature after Brentford's attempts collapsed, Tottenham would have had to offer a clearer pathway to Postecoglou's first team in the near future than their rivals.

That then begs the question whether the versatile England U21 international, who is naturally a central midfielder who many believe will end up as a number six but played much of last season at right-back, will have altered Spurs' plans for this window? The Premier League will be another step up for Gray but he did play 52 times for Leeds last season in a physical Championship so is no green rookie despite his age.

Some have compared his readiness for the top flight to be like Gareth Bale, who played regularly in the Championship for Southampton for a season before arriving at Spurs at 17-years-old. It was only an ankle injury that really prevented the Welshman from continuing his run of early starts in his first season at the club.

So could Gray's ability to play at right-back as a midfielder lend itself to Postecoglou's inverted full-back role and withdraw the need to look for another right-back should Emerson Royal leave for AC Milan this summer? Or could the club decide against signing another number six this summer to allow the teenager to grow into that role as an alternative to Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur?

Postecoglou and technical director Johan Lange will have to make decisions on all of that after the opportunity to bring in a star in the making in Gray arose.

Which attackers come in?

Postecoglou admitted to football.london that bringing in new attacking players is a priority for him this summer. Werner signing on again for another season is one option who fits the Australian's system but more attacking players will arrive during this window.

football.london reported last month that Rennes' Desire Doue is one of those on Tottenham's attacking midfield shortlist, able to play out wide on either flank and through the middle. That strong interest in the 19-year-old has not diminished and with the Frenchman linked with many top clubs in Europe, including Bayern and PSG, any chase for him would be highly competitive. Spurs do have a strong relationship with Rennes, having loaned them Rodon and Djed Spence in the past.

Doue fits the transfer profile of a club like Tottenham as a moderately expensive player who can become a star in the years ahead while impressing now and one they can have a fairer fight for, without Champions League football on the table.

For instance, the north London club love Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams but so do most of the biggest clubs in the world and the 21-year-old's performances for Spain at Euro 2024 have only increased that. The problem doesn't stop there either as despite a reported £49million up front release clause, the player also already earns £170,000 a week at Athletic Bilbao so the competition will drive that far higher for any potential suitor. So where Tottenham would sit in the food chain even if they did try to make a move for the Euros star remains to be seen.

Postecoglou also wants another option up front, with Lille's Canada international Jonathan David among the list of names the club have looked at in the position.

The Australian wants more firepower up front and the attacking spots are ones he will want filled sooner rather than later before looking at any extra defensive additions.

Does he need experience?

Postecoglou likes to develop top young players and Spurs prefer that profile of signing but the Australian will also need some experienced newcomers if he is to realise his expectations of getting the club challenging at the top of the Premier League next season while competing across all competitions.

Spurs like Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and the England international is certainly ready-mate but his club currently seem confident of keeping the midfielder this summer. Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey falls into the young but also Premier League experienced category as does Chelsea's Conor Gallagher.

Continuing the English theme and Spurs have been among the many clubs linked with Brentford striker Ivan Toney. The north London side have distanced themselves from such reports for much of this window so far but you can't help but wonder whether if his price drops as the weeks pass and the competition is not there for his services, whether Tottenham have another think about the England man before the window closes.

Postecoglou certainly needs some more older heads to help guide his young team.

Who leaves?

Bids aplenty will start to trickle in for Tottenham's players now the financial books have opened for next season to ease fears for the time being over the profit and sustainability rules. Spurs have so many players they are happy to move on this summer with many in the final 12 months of their contract, including Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon, while Djed Spence is also not in Postecoglou's plans with Genoa keen to keep him for the right price.

Bryan Gil will also be available for the right price tag, along with Emerson, while AZ Alkmaar remain the favourites to sign Troy Parrott this summer although they have so far been unable to agree a fee with Tottenham. Oliver Skipp wants regular football next season but is a rare senior club-trained homegrown player for the Europa League for Tottenham.

Other bids will come in for players that Postecoglou is happy to keep in the coming season, which in itself could lead to some rethinking of plans, with Richarlison the subject of continued interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Which youngsters stay and which go on loan?

Postecoglou must also make a decision on which of the club's young stars remain in and around his squad for the coming season to get minutes in the Premier League and Europe League as well as domestic cup competitions and which head out on loan for a full season of senior experience.

Mikey Moore is expected to be heavily involved in pre-season after the 16-year-old spent much of the end of the previous campaign with the first team and got two Premier League appearances under his belt. Borussia Dortmund are sniffing around the player who technically has agreed his first professional deal with Spurs but will not sign it until 17th birthday on August 11 so isn't entirely locked down just yet.

Postecoglou has plenty of belief in Moore, who is currently believe to be happy at Spurs, and the youngster will get minutes this summer in pre-season and then across the campaign, which the club hope is enough to prevent any envious eyes from outside becoming anything more than that.

Tyrese Hall is also expected to be involved with the first team while decisions will be made on the other members of Tottenham's successful but currently huge U21s squad.

football.london understands Luton Town are extremely keen on taking Jamie Donley on loan to the Championship, as are Oxford United, with former Spurs assistant boss Chris Davies at Birmingham City also looking at the 19-year-old, who made four first team appearances last season under Postecoglou.

There have been inquiries aplenty about Will Lankshear after the striker's 32 goals for the U21s last season, but question marks remain over whether he must remain at Tottenham for the next campaign to ensure he is considered club trained and homegrown for the seasons ahead.

The next steps also have to be decided with Dane Scarlett, Alejo Veliz, Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips among others, with Matthew Craig expected to head out on loan again after his successful spell at Doncaster Rovers.

Chris Davies raids Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham backroom staff to bolster Birmingham set-up - Football.London
Description

Chris Davies has raided his old club Tottenham to add another face to his new coaching team at Birmingham City in the shape of Nathan Gardiner.

Davies left his role as Ange Postecoglou's senior assistant coach at Spurs this summer in order to take up his first role as a manager at League One side Birmingham City. The 39-year-old has previously been assistant manager to Brendan Rodgers at Leicester and Celtic but is now ploughing his own furrow at the Midlands club following their relegation from the Championship last season.

This month he has moved to take Tottenham's head of sports science Gardiner with him to Birmingham, with the 47-year-old joining as first team assistant coach in Davies' new-look coaching team along new assistant manager Ben Petty.

"Nathan has extensive experience in fitness and conditioning, having worked at the top level of English football for the last 18 years, 14 of which were at Spurs where I worked with him," said Davies. "As well as a deep knowledge of loading and periodisation, Nathan is an excellent communicator amongst both players and staff.

"He is a hardworking and reliable individual, who has made a positive contribution in every club he has been at."

Birmingham said that Gardiner "will assist the performance department to ensure players achieve optimal fitness and conditioning, whilst working closely with the club’s medical department with a focus on recovery and rehabilitation. His expertise will also aid in the monitoring of player loading and the planning and delivery of pre-game preparation".

Gardiner is a versatile figure in the world of football as he is qualified as a sports scientist, physio and coach after gaining a sports science degree from Loughborough University, a physiotherapy one from Kings College and he has also worked towards a UEFA A Licence in coaching.

football.london reported in March this year that Gardiner had been reappointed as Tottenham's head of sports science, returning to resume his 14-year relationship with the north London club in replacing Sam Pooley, who left Spurs almost 10 years after arriving from AFC Wimbledon.

Gardiner reported into Head of Medicine and Sports Science Geoff Scott, who will reach two decades at Tottenham himself this summer. Gardiner had left Tottenham in October 2020 to take up a role as a first team coach with Fulham, joining Scott Parker during his spell at Craven Cottage.

Gardiner made the news at Spurs back in 2015 when Andros Townsend clashed with him after a game against Aston Villa. The England international, now at Luton, was pictured pushing and arguing with the fitness coach and was subsequently dropped from Mauricio Pochettino's squad and would not play for Tottenham again, dropped to the Under-21s before leaving for Newcastle.

How Tottenham's exciting first team, bench and manager could look in 2030

How Tottenham's exciting first team, bench and manager could look in the year 2030 - Football.London
Description

With the arrival of Archie Gray at Tottenham Hotspur the club's stock of talented young players has only increased as they build a team for the present and the future.

The 18-year-old arrived this week in a £40million package transfer from Leeds United, which included Joe Rodon heading in the opposite direction. The signing of the Championship Young Player of the Year got us thinking at football.london about what Spurs' team could look like by the year 2030.

To prevent us going completely wild with our predictions as we jump into our DeLorean, we're going to have to enforce a six-year transfer ban unfortunately to do so, or a longer version of the self-imposed one Spurs managed in the 2018/19 season, but the result is a very exciting team if many of the club's young starlets fulfil their potential in the years ahead and steer clear of long-term injuries.

Here's our Tottenham team to start the 2030/31 season - we've gone for a 3-5-2 formation - and named some of those who could make up the bench and named the manager as well as his assistant.

Guglielmo Vicario

Now 33 years old in our scenario, Vicario has emulated Hugo Lloris as the experienced long-serving man at the back and also occasionally wearing the armband for the team as one of the vice-captains. Either Josh Keeley or Lucas Gunter could well be in the mix here, but we went with the Italian still performing at the top level.

Radu Dragusin

The big, strong, technically-comfortable Romanian is a perfect fit for the Premier League and at 28 years old would be around his prime by the time the 2030/31 season rolls around. Cristian Romero could well have moved on by then in his 30s to Real Madrid after Dragusin became a mainstay in the team.

Luka Vuskovic

If you want to feel old, Luka Vuskovic will still only be 23 years old by the time 2030 comes around. There's plenty of excitement around the young towering Croatian centre-back and if he continues to develop as many expect then Spurs could have a real star on their hands.

Micky van de Ven

The Dutchman will have reached the grand old age of 29 by the time the 2030/31 campaign rolls around, but we reckon - if he can steer clear of further hamstring injuries - that he'll still have his pace like players like Kyle Walker do now. We're going with Van de Ven as the Tottenham captain at this point, with a couple of experienced team-mates as his vice-captains.

Destiny Udogie

At 27, the talented Italian will still be raiding up and down the left flank for Tottenham in our time-jump scenario and has become one of the best full-backs in the Premier League. In our system Udogie returns to being a natural wing-back as he was for Udinese all those years ago.

Lucas Bergvall

Some in Sweden have tipped the blonde midfielder to become the next David Beckham, with his boyband looks and talent, so we're not going to disagree with that here as at 24 Bergvall has become one of the most valuable superstars in our Tottenham team and linked every summer with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona, as the latter look to make up for missing out on him when he was a teenager.

Archie Gray

Gray is versatile and some around him believe he's going to develop into a midfielder able to operate as a number six and number eight, so that's where we're sticking him at the base of a very mobile, talented midfield trio that could boss the centre of the pitch for Tottenham for years to come.

Pape Matar Sarr

The old man of the midfield relatively at this stage as he'll be soon to turn 28 when the 2030/31 season begins. If you consider how good the Senegal international is now, just imagine what Sarr will be like by then as a marauding number eight as Premier League midfields and defences struggle to contain him.

Pedro Porro

The only other thirty-something in the team as the experienced Spaniard will be approaching 31 by this point in time and he will still be flying up and down the right as a wing-back with a lethal delivery from that wand of a right foot. Porro is the other vice-captain in our future Tottenham squad.

Mikey Moore

Playing in a floating role behind the striker, we reckon Moore will be a star for club and country by this point. Again, if you want to feel ancient, he might still be just 22 when the Premier League season starts if Tottenham's first game is on Saturday August 10 in 2030 - yes we really did look ahead.

Will Lankshear

There were a few options in this front man role but we went for Lankshear to hit a real development spurt in the years ahead and become the club's new Harry Kane-type up front with goals galore each season. He'll be 25 in the 2030/31 season so starting to really hit his stride as a striker.

The bench

So many of these players could actually be in the starting XI by the time 2030 rolls around, like the talented Tyrese Hall, Jamie Donley or Alfie Devine, or the versatile George Abbott or centre-backs Ashley Phillips or Alfie Dorrington. That's not to even mention current first teamers like Brennan Johnson, who will be 29 by then, or Dejan Kulusevski or Oliver Skipp if he gets the regular football he needs in the years ahead. Up front, Dane Scarlett and Alejo Veliz will be hoping to have broken through into the first team on a regular basis. There's likely to be another academy talent to have broken through as well, perhaps George Feeney as a star striker after goals galore in the youth set-up following his move from Glentoran in the summer of 2024.

The manager

Ange Postecoglou's career suggests he's unlikely to be at Tottenham in six years' time. He'll turn 65 in 2030 so may well have decided by that point to enjoy retirement on a sun lounger around a pool in Greece as he's previously hinted at.

So we're going for Matt Wells to have been groomed by the Australian to take over at Spurs after he departs. It would be entirely fitting to continue his family's legacy at the north London club with his grandfather being the legendary double-winning Welsh wing wizard Cliff Jones.

Destiny Udogie and the Tottenham players who could get squad number upgrades for 2024/25 season

Tottenham left it rather late last summer to confirm their squad numbers for the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. In fact, the news arrived only two hours prior to their league opener away at Brentford.

Pre-season sometimes gives an indication of what's to come in terms of shirt numbers but that wasn't exactly the case 12 months ago. James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Destiny Udogie wore numbers 71, 72 and 73 respectively for the club's Asia-Pacific tour, with the trio all changing numbers once official confirmation duly arrived 120 minutes before the 2-2 draw at Brentford last August.

With a handful of numbers currently vacant and a host of players expected to move on, we could well see a bit of movement in terms of squad numbers for the 2024/25 term. So could any Tottenham players currently at the club be in line for an upgrade? football.london takes a look below.

The No.1 shirt is now available following Hugo Lloris' Tottenham exit to LAFC but Guglielmo Vicario's previous comments suggest that he will remain the club's No.13.

Speaking last August, he said: "Thirteen is my favourite number and I also had it in previous years. It is in my heart and it was free when I signed so I decided to take it and I will keep the number."

There could also be a chance for Tottenham's No.37 Micky van de Ven to upgrade to the No.5 jersey that he wore during his time with Wolfsburg if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg moves on as expected. However, the Dutchman explained earlier this year that he chose No.37 at Spurs as a tribute to one of his friends who sadly passed away when they were younger.

"With a friend of mine, he passed away when we were younger, and it was always his favourite number," he admitted. "So when I had the opportunity to choose No.37 when I signed for Tottenham... to be honest, it's for him."

A summer exit away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Sergio Reguilon would free up the No.3 shirt, thus allowing Udogie the opportunity to swap from his current No.38. There could also be the potential for Timo Werner to trade after wearing No.16 following his loan switch from RB Leipzig in January.

Now a Tottenham player for the full season, the German may want to inherit Bryan Gil's No.11 jersey if the Spaniard does indeed head elsewhere for the 2024/25 campaign. Werner is no stranger to No.11 having previously had it on his back at both Chelsea and RB Leipzig.

Pape Matar Sarr is someone who will likely receive an upgrade from his No.29 shirt in the seasons ahead to a more prominent number unless of course he decides to keep it. Until there is a bit more movement in terms of outgoings, there are very few numbers between 1-20 that are currently free for players at present, with the No.17 he wears on international duty for Senegal occupied by Cristian Romero.

A few of Tottenham's starlets could be in line for new numbers ahead of the upcoming season, including Dane Scarlett (44), Alfie Devine (45), Jamie Donley (63), Mikey Moore (59) and Tyrese Hall (73). It certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see Donley, Moore and Hall take on lower digits for the campaign ahead after catching the eye of Postecoglou last term.

The future could be very bright indeed for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club following some smart investments. The signings of Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie in 2021 and 2022 respectively appear to be transfer bargains with the duo going on to excel under Ange Postecoglou last season.

While Micky van de Ven certainly cost a lot more money than Sarr and Udogie, the Dutchman made an instant impression in his debut season in north London and he already looks to be one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League. Brennan Johnson also cost a sizeable fee in the 2023 summer transfer market and the hope will be that there is even more to come from him in the years ahead.

Tottenham have already added to their squad this summer with an eye on both the campaign ahead and later down the line. Lucas Bergvall, who was announced as a Spurs signing in February, could well go on to star in England's top flight if he can replicate his form from his homeland of Sweden in the Premier League following his switch from Djurgarden.

Tuesday morning then saw Archie Gray complete his move from Leeds United after Tottenham struck a deal that involved Joe Rodon returning to Elland Road. The 18-year-old was a standout player for Leeds in the Championship last term and he may well go on to even greater heights playing under Postecoglou, who is someone he has huge admiration for given he is a Celtic fan.

As well as adding some young signings to the ranks over the past few transfer windows, Tottenham also have some excellent players coming through the system at present. Tyrese Hall and Mikey Moore have caught the eye of Postecoglou and the duo could be in line for more first-team minutes from August onwards.

Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear have formed quite a partnership playing for the development squad and they could quite easily go on to make a name for themselves in the first team if they continue to progress at their current rate.

Add into the mix fellow youngsters Luka Vuskovic, Ashley Phillips, Alfie Devine, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett, Postecoglou has the nucleus of what could be a really impressive team that can play alongside one another for years to come. So what exactly could a future Tottenham XI look like?
