As Tottenham Hotspur prepare to host Liverpool in a highly anticipated Premier League clash, fans are gearing up for a match brimming with excitement and goals. Both teams enter this encounter fresh from dramatic EFL Cup matches, with Liverpool cruising past Southampton and Spurs edging out Manchester United in a thrilling 4-3 victory.

Spurs go into this match at 16/5 to come out as victors with CopyBet while Liverpool are the favourites at 8/11 and a draw is 16/5.

Tottenham's recent form has been unpredictable, showcasing both their attacking brilliance and defensive vulnerabilities. In their midweek encounter against Manchester United, goalkeeper Fraser Forster experienced a tumultuous game, committing two blunders that allowed United to claw back from a 3-0 deficit. Nonetheless, Spurs clinched victory thanks to Son Heung-Min's sensational goal directly from a corner.

The season has been a rollercoaster for Spurs, highlighted by inconsistent performances. They suffered an unexpected 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich but bounced back with a resounding 4-0 win over Manchester City. Their attacking prowess was further demonstrated in a 5-0 demolition of Southampton, though defensive shortcomings were exposed in a chaotic 4-3 loss to Chelsea. At home, Tottenham have found it challenging to maintain defensive solidity, securing just one clean sheet in eight matches but finding the net in seven of those games.

Liverpool come into this fixture in exceptional form, having lost just once across all competitions this season. Their recent away games have been goal-fests, featuring 15 goals across three matches, with both sides scoring at least twice each time. This attacking dynamism will pose a significant challenge for Tottenham as they aim to contain Liverpool's formidable forward line.

With both teams renowned for their attacking flair and occasional defensive lapses, spectators can anticipate a high-scoring contest. Tottenham will seek to capitalise on their offensive strengths, with stars like Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane poised to exploit any chinks in Liverpool’s armour. Conversely, Liverpool will depend on their relentless attack to penetrate Spurs' defence.

For Tottenham, this game represents a chance to prove their consistency and resilience against elite competition. For Liverpool, it’s about sustaining their excellent form and continuing their quest for trophies. With plenty at stake for both sides, this match promises to be an exhilarating spectacle from start to finish.

Tottenham player ratings vs Man United as super Solanke hits double and Forster has nightmare

Tottenham Hotspur won 4-3 against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday and here are our Spurs player ratings.

Ange Postecoglou had Yves Bissouma back from suspension for this game and as Destiny Udogie picked up a knock against Southampton, Djed Spence switched across from the right to cover for the Italian.

Dominic Solanke fired the opening goal just 15 minutes into the contest. Pedro Porro fried an effort from outside the box and Altay Bayindir parried it out and the striker smashes it in off the right-hand post.

Dejan Kulusevski, who had tested the keeper in the first half with a low shot, made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second half. Son Heung-min played in James Maddison down the left and the midfielder fired the ball low into the box and it was only half-cleared to the Swede who smashed it home.

Solanke then made it 3-0. Spence clipped a perfect ball over the top into the striker's path and he ran inside Lisandro Martinez and drilled a low shot into the bottom left corner for his second goal of the night bringing a punch of delight from Postecoglou.

Fraser Forster then made a fantastic full length save from Joshua Zirkee's header but then fluffed a pass to Radu Dragusin soon after which was intercepted by Bruno Fernandes and Zirkzee tapped his pass home. Forster then messed up again on 70 minutes, taking far too long to pass the ball and Amad slid in to send the ball back into the empty net.

Spurs scored a fourth goal though as Son's corner curled all the way in with Bayindir claiming Lucas Bergvall was holding his arm. United grabbed another one back when Jonny Evans headed past Forster but the host held on for the win and a semi-final spot.

Here are our Tottenham player ratings:

Fraser Forster

Made a great save to deny Zirkzee in the second half only to then fluff a pass to Dragusin which was worked back to the United striker to tap in. Made a complete mess over kicking out a pass pack and was closed down by Amad and the ball flew back into the net. Made a strange save with his feet from Amad later on. Evans' late header seemed to go through his arms from close range. He's been so good recently but this was a poor night for Forster which changed the momentum of a game going only one way at 3-0. 2

Pedro Porro

It was his shot from outside the box that was parried to Solanke to fire home. United kept targeting the space in behind him and he struggled at first but got better as the game wore on. 6

Radu Dragusin

Battled away and deserved better than the three goals Spurs conceded in the end. 7

Archie Gray

Another decent showing as a centre-back and there's little he or Dragusin could do to compensate when Forster is going to have a double moment like that. 7

Djed Spence

His first start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it was another very good display. A constant option down the left and he played a lovely ball into the path of Solanke for Spurs' third goal. 8

Pape Matar Sarr

A constant ball of energy and played well even though he picked up a yellow card in the first half. 8

Yves Bissouma

A return to the team and he looked keen to make up for lost time with a dominant display in the centre of the pitch, showing off all of his skills. It was a really good performance with a couple of important blocks, tackles and dribbles until he had a couple of nervy late moments and then was beaten by Evans for United's third goal. 8

James Maddison

A busy display and it was his low ball into the box that led to Kulusevski's goal. 7

Dejan Kulusevski

Tested the keeper with a low shot before the half hour mark. Scored a killer second goal within a minute of the second half starting, smashing home a loose ball after Maddison's low cross was only half-cleared to him. 8

Dominic Solanke

Netted his eighth goal of the season with a first-time effort from the keeper's parry and then his ninth came with an excellent run and low finish. He holds the ball up so well and links the play superbly. He was involved in the build-up to Kulusevski's goal s well with his quick feet and strength. 9

Son Heung-min

Kept trying to find a way through and played Maddison on the overlap for the second goal. Grabbed a strange goal of his own when his corner curled all the way into the net for Spurs' fourth. 7

Subs

Lucas Bergvall

Battled away when he came on for the final 14 minutes or so. 6

Brennan Johnson

Replaced Solanke late on. N/A

Sergio Reguilon

Came on for his first appearance of the season late on. N/A

Solanke scores!

Dominic Solanke scores! Pedro Porro shoots from outside the box and the keeper parries it out and the striker smashes it in off the post.

Dragusin to the rescue

Some very good defending from Dragusin there to stop Hojlund getting a shot away on goal.

Wide

It came at a difficult height for the World Cup winner and he was unable to direct it on goal.

Djed Spence starts again with Udogie and Werner out

Ange Postecoglou has made a couple of changes to his Tottenham Hotspur team to face Manchester United on Thursday in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The games have come thick and fast for both sides in recent weeks and now Ruben Amorim comes up against Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with both managers facing team decisions. For the Spurs head coach, he had 10 unavailable players for the win at Southampton but now does have Yves Bissouma back from suspension for this game.

Destiny Udogie picked up a knock against Southampton and Djed Spence switches across from the right to cover for the Italian. Elsewhere there's no Timo Werner on the bench, meaning a spot for 16-year-old Malachi Hardy and two goalkeepers in Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman.

Here's the Tottenham team that Postecoglou has selected:

Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son. Subs: Austin, Whiteman, Reguilon, Hardy, Dorrington, Olusesi, Bergvall, Johnson, Lankshear.

We simulated Tottenham vs Man Utd to get a Carabao Cup score prediction

Description

Tottenham will continue their hunt for a trophy when they host Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals later today.

After a rough few weeks, Spurs got back to winning ways in their last outing, battering Southampton 5-0 in the Premier League. The victory came at the perfect time with a tough clash against Liverpool on the weekend, but for now, all attention turns to the Carabao Cup, where Ange Postecoglou face Man United.

A win for the Lilywhites would see them reach their first Carabao Cup semi-final since the 2021/22 season, where they lost 3-0 to Chelsea over two legs. Spurs and United have already met once this season when Postecoglou's side eased their way to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

So, can Spurs continue their Carabao Cup journey? Let's take a look.

We simulated Tottenham vs Man United to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Tottenham could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

We predict that United could set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Dalot, Mainoo, Ugarte, Malacia; Amad, Fernandes; Hojlund.

The first half was dominated by United, and the best chance of the half fell to Rasmus Hojlund, but the striker could only direct Diogo Dalot's cross wide of the target from a promising shooting position. Spurs were slow out the gates, but after the restart, they were the better side.

Dominic Solanke came close when he was sent through on goal by a wonderful Archie Gray pass, but Andre Onana made a terrific save to parry the shot onto the post. United were starting to struggle under the Spurs pressure, and with 64 minutes on the clock, the deadlock was broken.

Heung-Min Son did well to cut in from the left before surging towards goal, and he spotted the darting run of James Maddison who surged into the United box untracked. Maddison latched onto Son's pass before gliding past Harry Maguire, and a composed finish saw him curl the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Ruben Amorim brought on Joshua Zirkzee with 10 minutes remaining in an attempt to grab a goal back, and the perfect opportunity fell the striker's way when Amad Diallo's driven cross was deflected into his path, but from six yards out, the Dutchman fired his strike straight into the grasp of the 'keeper.

In the final minute of the game, Spurs were given the chance to put the game to bed when Lisandro Martinez tripped Brennan Johnson in the box, with the referee rewarding a penalty. Maddison stepped up to take, and the midfielder grabbed his and Spurs' second to secure a spot in the semi-final for Postecoglou's side.

Ange Postecoglou reveals further Destiny Udogie Tottenham update and Sergio Reguilon absence

Description

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Destiny Udogie is likely to only play one game for Tottenham this week. The Italian international has once again featured regularly for the team this season, playing 21 of the Spurs' 24 games so far in 2024/25.

Tottenham's current injury crisis, as well as Djed Spence's ineligibility in the Europa League, has resulted in Postecoglou playing Udogie more than he would have liked. Spurs' No.13 came off injured midway through the first half of last Sunday's 5-0 win over Southampton and there are question marks over whether he will be involved in Thursday's Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester United.

Postecoglou has revealed that fatigue is currently the issue for Udogie, who wanted to play on in the game against Southampton before Spurs decided not to risk him given their rotten luck on the injury front. Speaking ahead of the Manchester United cup showdown, the Spurs boss has indicated that Udogie will only play in one of this week's home games against United and Liverpool.

"He's probably the only one we haven’t given a rest to," said the 59-year-old. "He wanted to continue on the night but the game had started well so we took him off. It’s just fatigue and the reality is if he plays tomorrow he won’t play Sunday and vice versa because he’s one of the few.

"We’ve managed to give Pedro a rest on the other side. The full back positions are pretty demanding for us. But Destiny has had to play in Europe because Djed’s not available and since Ben’s been out he’s played every game. So just fatigue."

Sergio Reguilon has been back on the bench for Tottenham recently but he was not amongst the substitutes for Sunday's 5-0 win at Southampton. Postecoglou has explained the Spaniard's absence was due to a tooth extraction but the left-back is available for selection once again.

"He had a tooth extraction that kept him out. He was bedridden but he’s available for selection," outlined the head coach. "He's available so he's available for selection and again tomorrow we’ll get Biss back but everyone else is out and he will be back in the squad and it will be an opportunity to use him because we’ll have probably only four first team players on the subs’ bench of which he’ll be one."

A number of Tottenham supporters made their feelings towards Spurs chairman Daniel Levy clear in Sunday's game on the south coast. Postecoglou was asked about the chants coming from the away end and how he deals with it.

“You deal with it as I’ve always done," said Postecoglou. "It’s not my first experience. The first two or three games at Celtic they were throwing tennis balls on the pitch in protest, actually disrupting games. So it’s not the first time I’ve had to face this kind of thing.

“I always feel my role in that is, it’s not telling people what to do, but hopefully trying to guide the football club into a place where all these things can be resolved in a secondary way where the focus, particularly on match day, is just on us winning games of football. I’ve always felt that’s been my role and that’s what I’ve tried to do my whole career.

“It’s not the first time I’ve been at a club where there’s disenchantment, whether that be with a board or an owner or some aspect of a football club. The reason I don’t take positions on this is because I think my more important function is to make sure that the football side of the football club I’m involved in is guiding us forward rather than the other way around.

“There’s no real kind of benefit in any other focus for me as manager of this football club, of me putting all my energies into convincing people one way or another about anything, whether that’s fans or the board or media. I think what we do on the field, particularly on matchdays is of primary importance."

It was then put to Postecoglou if chanting can affect player performance on a matchday.

"I think it does in terms of. When you play at home, it can be a major advantage if the support is all aligned with everything else at the football club for sure," said Postecoglou. "It does help but at the same time you can’t mandate that, you can’t tell people how to feel as I keep saying. If there are sort of fractures in that, then of course you are not getting the maximum out, like anything else, your organisation.

"It can have an effect. But at the same time, we as the people out there, myself and especially the players on game day, we have got to be able to still maintain the level of performance to get the job done irrespective. Hopefully that means we bring everyone along on the journey."

Tottenham supporters are desperate for the club to win some much-needed silverware after last lifting a trophy back in 2008. So could winning a trophy potentially mend that rift between owner and fans?

“It’s the unknown. If I go on the general sentiment since I’ve been in this job, it feels like a trophy will just make this place transform into something so… let’s see," explained the former Celtic boss. “Me personally? Like I keep saying, I want more than that.

"I don’t think it’s just about getting a trophy. I think when you want to build a successful, sustainable club in terms of competing for trophies every year, it’s more than that. But it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong about something while I’ve been in this job. Maybe a trophy is what it needs, I don’t know."

Tottenham's 5-0 win at Southampton resulted in Russell Martin losing his job at St Mary's. Martin's exit came on the same day Gary O'Neil also waved goodbye to Wolves after only two wins from 16 league games this term.

Postecoglou has acknowledged that those in the hotseat are not given time to build anything anymore but, regardless of the short tenure of Premier League managers now, he's planning for the long-term future in north London.

“It could be confidence, it could be naivety, it could be I don’t care whether I’m allowed to see it out. I’m just not going to change," he said when pushed on what gives him the confidence that he can build something at Tottenham.

“I may be a dinosaur in that, but I still believe in legacy coaching. I still believe in doing things that last and make a difference. It goes in the face of everything else that is happening in the world of football.

“I don’t know what the average tenure of a Premier League manager is but I would hazard a guess that it would be less than 18 months, probably. I see very rarely managers going beyond their second year, unless they’ve won something or the club has stuck by them for some particular reason.

“I keep saying, I feel blessed that I’m at the stage of my career that I am where I’m just not interested in any other kind of methodology of coaching, in terms of just coming in, winning something and then moving on and then winning something else.

“I still believe in the things I enjoy. The stuff that lasts. No one has found a way yet to do that in a quick manner. No one. No one has in one year or two years built something that is sustainable. They’ve had success but then it usually falls apart pretty quickly after. I’m not going to change who I am at this stage of my career.

“If I was starting out, I have no doubt I would have a different mindset. I would go in as a firefighter, you’d get some results, get the club up and running and think it’s not going to last more than two years and see what my next move is going to be.”

Martin's dismissal at Southampton came only a short time after he had completed his media duties following the game.

Postecoglou asked: "Is there a good way of doing it? We have lost all sort of modes of respect in our society where guys are in jobs and they are putting up names of who is going to replace them while they are still working. It is just.

"We have crossed that line now and it is pretty much open season - you can do what you like and no-one is going to say anything about the fact that a man who, whether it is Russell or Gary, I am pretty sure 24/7 have done everything in their power to, it is not for the want of trying. And the effect on their families, yet we are just so, as a society, we are so quick to just throw people in the trash and move on really quickly with no thought or any care around it.

"I don’t know if there is a good way or a best way of handling it. It is why I have left before it has ever happened to me, mate, jump out before that comes my way. We have crossed that line now and it is open slammer?

"I get people who say managers have always been sacked. I just think it has gone beyond that now where we forget there is a human being involved. This job is the hardest job now in any walk of life. You can say politics but this is harder than any job. The tenure and longevity of this role now means that you go in to it and very few are going to come out of it without any scars. "

Postecoglou then joked that it is a harder job than that of the Prime Minister, with the Spurs boss and his fellow colleagues facing an election every single weekend.

"Oh yeah, how many times does he have an election? I have one every weekend mate," he quipped. "We have an election every weekend and either get voted in or out."

Man Utd squad vs Tottenham revealed as bombshell Marcus Rashford decision confirmed

Alejandro Garnacho has been drafted back into the Manchester United squad for the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night. However, Marcus Rashford was nowhere to be seen when the team headed south bound.

Both Garnacho and Rashford were left out of the matchday squad for the Premier League win over Manchester City on Sunday and they were instructed to train at Carrington instead. The former was spotted with a snood covering his mouth and a black beanie hat as he met up with his teammates for the trip to north London on Wednesday afternoon.

Yet, Rashford was missing when the United players assembled at the airport car park and then Stockport Station. Rashford had expressed his desire to leave United in an interview on Tuesday, after reporting sick for training on Monday.

The United squad had Tuesday off, courtesy of head coach Ruben Amorim. The club is yet to comment on Rashford's fitness. After the City game, Amorim confirmed that both Garnacho and Rashford could be back in contention for the Spurs match.

"We have one more training," Amorim said on Wednesday morning, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. "But it's the same situation of all the other players. If they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see see at the end of training. Of course [I expect a reaction]. I expect the best of each player every day so we will see after training."

After United's triumph over City, Amorim clarified the situation regarding Rashford and Garnacho's absence from the lineup. The Portuguese tactician said: "It is important to say why, it was not a disciplinary thing. Next week, next game new life, they are fighting for their places."

He emphasised the importance of all aspects of a player's conduct, adding: "But for me it is important the performance in training, the performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, they way you engage with your teammates, the way you push your team-mates.

"Everything is important in our context in the beginning of something when we want to change a lot of things, when people in our club are losing their jobs, we have to put the standards really high."

Amorim added that players must earn their spots on the team, highlighting that the squad's unity was key to their victory. He said: "For that, they have to fight for their place in the team and today the team we proved we can leave anyone outside the squad and manage to win if you play together.

"I'm going to say again it was not a disciplinary thing. It's the small details. You can see the games like I see, there are some things that have to change. But it is a new life, it's not a disciplinary thing, it's the performance in training, the performance in game and then I have to change, to choose players."

He concluded by addressing the issue of discipline directly. Amorim said: "If it was disciplinary, I would say that here and it will be a bigger problem but it was not that. It was just that I want to improve my players and you understand that for so long, for example with Rash, we tried a thing and it doesn't work. Let's continue to do the same thing or try something different?"

Amorim has laid down the gauntlet for his United squad, insisting that hard work in training will be key to their success. He said: "So it's as simple as that. If they train well with the talent they have we will be so much better with them. Both of them. But they have to work hard, they do, today they trained really hard so it's a good thing. New week, new life, let's see the next one."

Noussair Mazraoui has recovered from a knock he sustained against City to be available for selection.

Latest Tottenham injury news as nine miss Man Utd with triple boost amid fresh Van de Ven update

Ange Postecoglou has been handed a triple Tottenham injury boost before the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United. Spurs have been hugely impacted by injuries this season with Son Heung-min, Dominic Solanke and Micky van de Ven all having missed some action.

Results for Tottenham have been very inconsistent recently with only two victories in their last seven. A rampant first-half display against Southampton saw the Lilywhites score five and become the top scorers in the league with 36 goals scored.

Postecoglou's side will now be looking to build momentum from that result with a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals up for grabs. Injury issues are continuing to plague Spurs however, with Guglielmo Vicario and Rodrigo Bentancur already ruled out.

On Wednesday, the Tottenham boss offered not so positive updates on Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero and Van de Ven. "From the other night, Destiny no injury but he is still sore from the game. Not ruling him out but will see how he is with the turnaround," Postecoglou said.

"I think both (Van de Ven and Romero) will be in the new year. Not as significant an injury as last time with Micky but obviously having a setback the medical team is going to make sure he is right to go." Though all three will miss Man United, another trio are close to returns.

Mikey Moore has not featured for over a month after being hit hard by a virus, while Ben Davies and Richarlison were both hit by hamstring injuries. "Mikey is back in training," he said. "The next cabs off the rank are Mikey and Ben Davies potentially next week and Richarlison potentially first week of the new year."

Though those three names will soon return, Wilson Odobert is expected to remain out for a significant period. Postecoglou does have at least one return though, with Yves Bissouma available again after serving a suspension in the dominant win away at Southampton.

Ange Postecoglou has spoken to the media to preview Tottenham's Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester United. It is a huge game in Spurs' calendar as they look to achieve their goal of bringing silverware to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham go into Thursday evening's tie in confident mood after putting five past Southampton at St Mary's last Sunday. The Red Devils will also be in a positive mindset after two late goals saw them earn the bragging rights in the Manchester derby.

Speaking in his latest press conference, Postecoglou gave his thoughts on the cup showdown, issued an update on the injury front, revealed when exactly players such as Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Richarlison could return and also spoke about Yang Min-hyeok's arrival at Hotspur Way. Here is every word the Spurs boss had to say when facing the media on Wednesday afternoon:

Team news updates?

I guess from the other night, Destiny [Udogie] no injury but he is still a bit sore from the game. We are not ruling him out but we will see how he is with the turn around. Biss is available after being suspended on the weekend and I think everyone else is as is.

When will van de Ven return?

(Micky) Van de Ven and (Cristian) Romero are still chugging along. I think both will be in the new year. Not as a significant injury as last time with Micky but obviously having a setback the medical team is going to make sure he is right to go. So both of them in the new year at some point.

Mikey Moore?

Mikey is back in training so hopefully not too far away. The next cabs off the rank are Mikey and Ben Davies potentially next week and then Richarlison maybe first week of the new year.

Victory over Bournemouth boosted the mood?

No, we were in a good mood before then. It was a great performance in the last game on Sunday and I was delighted with the way the lads handled everything. It was a tough week with an away European fixture thrown in there as well.

It was tough on us physically and the fact we had so many players out I think the way the players performed was outstanding but the mood is the same and looking forward to a big game.

How big a priority is the Carabao Cup?

We have got ourselves in this position so we have earned that. Like you said it’s a big game, quarter-final of a cup competition and I'm looking forward to it. It should be a cracking night.

Lots of noise around Manchester United and Marcus Rashford…

There’s always noise about Manchester United, come on mate. Where have you been?

What did you think of Rashford’s comments?

No interest. Don’t care. Not interested, he is a Manchester United player. A very good player, they have plenty of good players. But I manage my players and other managers will manage their own players. In terms of Marcus’ situation I have no real desire to examine it any further.

You have reiterated many times, your second season means a trophy…

I haven’t reiterated it many times, but if you ask me a question I will answer it. So if you ask me 100 times I will answer it 100 times but I’m not walking around with banners saying ‘I win things in my second year.’ But ask me the question and I will give you the answer and it is what it is.

In the quarter-finals and close to winning a trophy?

No I don’t think quarter-finals is close. You get to a final then I think you’re close. There is still a fair bit of football to be played, all we can do is be ready for tomorrow night. Like I said good game, big opponent and they have done well in cup competitions in the last couple of years. We are at home which is great for us with the support behind us and as you said an opportunity to get to a semi-final. That is enough motivation and focus we need for this game.

Now you're within sight of the semi-finals and final, would you park your philosophy a little bit to one side to get through and to the final?

I want to win and I want to play well, I don't think that's anything new. That will be it tomorrow night. We'll go out there and try and play our football. If we do, we'll be hard to stop as we have been this year.

Gary O'Neil and Russell Martin lost their jobs last weekend, are Premier League managerial careers becoming even more precarious in the 18 months since you've arrived?

Yeah I think that's a fact. You don't even get sacked in the morning now, you've got to change your song, mate! It's crazy. I don't get it. I don't know what the average tenure of a Premier League manager is these days. This notion that clubs want to bring managers in and build stuff doesn't exist because we all understand everyone of us in our positions at the moment is that the moment there is a bit of a wobble there will be coming from all areas.

I think Gary and Russell are both outstanding young managers who have long careers ahead of them. Unfortunately I think for them at the beginning of their careers that's what a manager's career is going to look like. I think you'll find that from now on managers are going to have about 20 clubs on their CV, even the successful ones because the ability for clubs to just stick with one person just doesn't seem like it's feasible anymore.

I've no doubt both those guys will bounce back, they will have learnt from their experience for sure like we all do and hopefully in the not too distant future they are back doing what they love.

Lucas Bergvall impressed in the No.6 role on Sunday and you've Yves Bissouma back tomorrow, just how tough a decision is that to make in midfield?

It's good to have an option there. Lucas did fantastically well the other night and he has done in the last two or three games he has played for us as he's really made an impact, but the other night I thought he was really good. In the first half he really showed maturity playing that role, discipline and real quality as well. It's good to have that option.

Having Biss available is great as well. I'll make a decision tomorrow, but at the same time that was Lucas' first start for quite a while and he did tire noticeably in the second half so we'll have to see how he's recovered from the game.

How impressed have you been with Fraser Forster since he came in to replace Guglielmo Vicario?

He has been great, no surprise to me. I put him in my Europa League squad, that's how highly I rated him, mate.

Yang Min-hyeok has arrived in the country from South Korea, have you had an opportunity to meet him yet?

Yeah he has been in the building the last couple of days sort of having a good look around. Obviously we can't register him until January 1st so he won't train with us but I always feel it's good, I had this experience at Celtic with the Asian lads we brought in, the Japanese and Korean boys, bringing them in before Christmas which allows them to settle in, especially off the field.

That way by the time we get to register them in a couple of weeks they are already settled and can train fully. It's good to see him around. He has been doing some English lessons which is great, he's already sort of conversing and it's great to have him in the building.

What have you made of Archie Gray at centre-back?

He hasn’t missed a beat, and it’s brilliant to watch. The rest of the lads have obviously helped him. Radu is the experienced one next to him at 22, and Destiny, 22, either side of him. That’s where we’re at in terms of the squad and all the young boys dipping in, I think’s super exciting through a tough period for the squad where we are at from the squad perspective.

The young guys are shouldering a big part of the load. That’s a brilliant thing for us because hopefully we get to smoother waters and we are going to be so much better equipped for what’s ahead. Archie has done really well, his defending has been really solid, obviously he’s got quality on the ball but the way he’s handled what we are asking him to do a really big job not just for a one-off game. He’s handled it brilliantly.

Djed Spence did well v Southampton, is he ready to maybe play a few more games including tomorrow night?

Djed was outstanding the other night. I said, credit to the coaches who have put the work into him. It wasn’t just about him filling a spot, he actually made an impact. Good on the night and he obviously got tired in the second half, understandably so. Again, great for us to have an established player come in, It felt really good he could contribute.

Fans made feelings known about chairman against Southampton, what is your reaction to them?

That’s for the supporters, mate, I’ve said a million times, it’s up to them to express what they want to express but hopefully they got to enjoy the other night, it was a special performance, especially the first 45 minutes.

Tomorrow night, I have spoken about the atmosphere at Ibrox and Galatasaray and how I’d like that to be our atmosphere because it would certainly help us overcome a tough opponent in a really big game.

Are Man Utd a good example of how winning a domestic cup is not the be all and end all?

I have said that before. It depends on what way you look at it. I always say that my ambition is to build a team and a club that has an opportunity for sustainable success. No, I don’t think winning a trophy will have done that but it will help the cause as it will show the ability to win things, create an environment that does bring trophies to the club. It can definitely help with the process but it isn’t the be all and end-all if it doesn’t align with those factors.

What are those factors? Is the team performing across all competitions, and how the squad is developing. Is it stable, is it consistent? Is there growth there so if you win one trophy you are in a position to win a second trophy. But if you win one and you fall off the cliff in another I don’t think it’s the way forward.

What you made of Ruben Amorim?

Yeah look he seems to have come in and made an impact straight away. As I mentioned earlier, it is a club that’s always going to have noise. It’s just that kind of football club and I guess that’s as big a challenge as the actual challenge for anyone that takes over.

He has obviously tweaked the formation a little bit, given different players an opportunity because he wants to have a look at everyone but as they showed at the weekend, they are pretty tough competitors still. Yeah, looking forward to meeting him and taking on the challenge tomorrow.

Spurs have been linked with Rashford in past, would you go in for him in January?

Ah, mate if I looked at everyone we were linked to, I would have no time to do anything else to be honest. I have got other people to do that part of the process. For us, we’ve been pretty disciplined in what we’re trying to build here and we’ll continue to be so.

Is that a no?

That’s a not on my radar. You can ask me about Marcus but you can ask me about every single Premier League footballer and I’ll say the same thing.

Talk about when you have success, look for the struggle before. This feels like the struggle with the injuries and form, but how encouraged have you been by the green shoots – young players stepping up, leaders in Deki emerging etc?

That’s kind of why as I said last week I haven’t lost any resolve or optimism about what we’re building because I see plenty of growth in this group. I guess people will look at our league position and our league form and within that context are saying there isn’t things developing here, but if you strip it away and look at the challenges we’ve had this year with the injury situation, we’re probably one result away from people saying we’re going OK in the league as well.

I think with all these things, my view is stay calm, stay focused and I see plenty of growth. Even Pape Sarr, mate. He is still a young man and is growing all the time and becoming a hell of a footballer. I just get so excited by all that. We’re going to hit some smoother waters at some point. I believe that in terms of where the squad is at. These kind of players who are carrying us through this tough period, you talk about mentality – they’ve got through that, not only got through it but helped the club through it and at such a young age, anything they face after that, they’re going to crash through. For me, I certainly feel there is some real growth that has happened and is happening at the moment.

Atmosphere vs Man City in cup was very good, when it is winner takes all, how important do fans become?

Yeah, massive. That night against City, it was a big game for us and the whole atmosphere that night, the way we started, the way we played the whole night, City were good on the night as well and it was a cracking game. It had a real cup atmosphere and we’re going to need that tomorrow night. We’re going to need that energy. All these games tend to be pretty tight games and if you get the energy of the crowd behind you, it can certainly lift the players and for us it’s going to be an important factor.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has refused to entertain transfer rumours linking the club with a move for Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford ahead of the two clubs' meeting in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Spurs are set to welcome United to north London as they battle for a place in the semi-final of the competition, with plenty of intrigue surrounding the visitors. Rashford and teammate Alejandro Garnacho were left out of the squad for their all-important Manchester derby against rivals Man City.

And following the decision, Rashford took to the press to address his future following Ruben Amorim's arrival as manager of the club last month. The 27-year-old admitted it was probably time for him to leave, stating that he was hoping for a new challenge.

"For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," Rashford said. "When I leave it's going to be no hard feelings. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me. I will always be a Red."

Asked about the 'noise' surrounding the club and player ahead of their meeting, Postecoglou stated: "There’s always noise about Manchester United, come on mate. Where have you been?"

And when asked about Rashford's comments in particular, and whether Spurs would be interested in a move, Postecoglou was clear on both Rashford and links to other players: "No interest. Don’t care. Not interested, he is a Manchester United player. A very good player, they have plenty of good players. But I manage my players and other managers will manage their own players. In terms of Marcus’ situation I have no real desire to examine it any further.

"Ah, mate if I looked at everyone we were linked to, I would have no time to do anything else to be honest. I have got other people to do that part of the process. For us, we’ve been pretty disciplined in what we’re trying to build here and we’ll continue to be so.

"[Is that a no?] That’s a not on my radar. You can ask me about Marcus but you can ask me about every single Premier League footballer and I’ll say the same thing."

Postecoglou then gave his view on Amorim since the Portuguese coach's arrival at Old Trafford, and says he is looking forward to the challenge of facing United in the cup.

"Yeah look he seems to have come in and made an impact straight away," Postecoglou added. "As I mentioned earlier, it is a club that’s always going to have noise. It’s just that kind of football club and I guess that’s as big a challenge as the actual challenge for anyone that takes over.

"He has obviously tweaked the formation a little bit, given different players an opportunity because he wants to have a look at everyone but as they showed at the weekend, they are pretty tough competitors still. Yeah, looking forward to meeting him and taking on the challenge tomorrow."
