Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Destiny Udogie may be available for Tottenham's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.

The Italian defender was substituted in the 5-0 win over Southampton on Sunday, but Postecoglou has moved to quell any fears over an injury for the defender. He says the 22-year-old was merely a bit sore rather than suffering from anything more serious.

"From the other night, Destiny no injury but he is still sore from the game," Postecoglou told reporters. "[I'm] not ruling him out but will see how he is with the turnaround."

However, both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will remain out for the clash against United, and are not expected back until the start of 2025 - meaning they will likely miss the Premier League games against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

"I think both [Van de Ven and Romero] will be in the new year," Postecoglou added. "Not as significant an injury as last time with Micky, a setback but just make sure right to go. Both in the new year at some point."

However, there was more positive news for Spurs elsewhere, with Mikey Moore having returned to training after recovering from a virus. Ben Davies is also set to return to action next week, while striker Richarlison will join Van de Ven and Romero in returning in the new year.

"Mikey is back in training. The next cabs off the rank are Mikey and Ben Davies potentially next week and Richarlison potentially first week of the new year."

Bergvall or Bissouma?

Yves Bissouma is available for selection once again after serving his one-match ban last Sunday as Tottenham beat Southampton 5-0.

The return of the Mali international does hand Ange Postecoglou quite the decision in midfield heading into the Manchester United fixure as Lucas Bergvall did catch the eye in his teammate's place.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will both be looking to secure their place in the semi-final draw for the Carabao Cup as their respective charges continue this week.

The Gunners will host Crystal Palace in their quarter-final clash on Wednesday night at the Emirates Stadium.

Victory for the Gunners would see Mikel Arteta and his men reach the semi-final of the competition and move a step closer to reaching this season's showpiece at Wembley Stadium.

Tottenham are also in quarter-final action when they host Manchester United on Thursday night.

Ange Postecoglou's swashbuckling team will go into that tie on the back of a 5-0 win away at Southampton - in the Premier League - at the weekend.

Victory for Arsenal and Tottenham would, in turn, see both north London clubs in the hat for the semi-final draw, which is scheduled to take place this week.

Here, football.london takes a look at the details needed to watch the Carabao Cup semi-final draw;

When is the Carabao Cup semi-final draw?

The Carabao Cup semi-final draw is scheduled to take place on Thursday evening - after the conclusion of Spurs' game vs Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The draw is expected to get underway at 10.30pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Carabao Cup semi-final dates

Due to the new Champions League format, there have been changes to the semi-final schedule for the Carabao Cup. Should Arsenal get past Palace - and Spurs defeat United - then the first leg fixtures for those semi-finals are scheduled to take place on January 8. The return legs will then be played on the week commencing February 5.

Tottenham announce new Netflix agreement with special Squid Game Liverpool event planned

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that a special event will take place this weekend for their Premier League clash against Liverpool.

Spurs will host the Merseyside club at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they aim to secure another important three points. Ange Postecoglou and Co. will first face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final before hosting Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend after recently defeating Southampton 5-0 in the top flight.

It was confirmed by Tottenham that Sunday's game against Liverpool will showcase the new agreement between the club and Netflix. The agreement will see the popular series 'Squid Game' feature in several promotions around the stadium.

Spurs have confirmed that a brand new trailer for the second season of the series will be broadcast on the big screens at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at half-time. There will also be similar promotions for the series for the home game against Wolves on December 29, the club's final fixture of 2024.

“Squid Game 2 will undoubtedly be one of the most talked-about shows over the festive period and our partnership with Netflix places the club at the centre of popular culture," said Ryan Norys, Tottenham's chief revenue officer, via the club website.

"This is yet another exciting way to enhance the matchday experience and bring our fans fresh, engaging content across digital channels”.

Tottenham's win over Southampton ended a run of three matches in the Premier League without a victory, which also included two defeats. Spurs will be hoping for a similar result to last season's home clash against Liverpool when they meet the Merseyside club this weekend, with Postecoglou overseeing a 2-1 victory in North London in September last year.

European Super League rebrand explained as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham given new proposal

Description

The European Super League has been rebranded as the 'Unity League' to challenge UEFA's monopoly on club football in Europe. A22 Sports failed to erect the competition back in 2021 following the withdrawal of numerous teams – now, the Madrid-based company is back with a new proposal.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur joined Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool in signing up for the ESL. The six Premier League clubs were joined by AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid as founding members.

Each of the English top flight sides dropped out of the project following great resistance and backlash from supporters. Three-and-a-half years or so on from the ESL collapse, A22 Sports have returned with a revised project.

In an official statement, they confirmed that a proposal for official recognition of a new European competition has been submitted to UEFA and FIFA. So, with that being said, football.london explains how the Unify League would work and how it impacts Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

What makes the 'Unity League' different from the ESL?

The European Super League was set to be a new midweek competition, which would have rivalled the Champions League. It would have had 20 teams – split into two groups of 10 – with 15 of which being founding members who were guaranteed a permanent place in the division.

So, that would have left space for five other sides to qualify each year. The top three from each group would have qualified for the quarter-finals, with the fourth and fifth-placed teams competing in a two-legged play-off for the two remaining spots.

The ESL would then have the same two-leg knockout format used in the Champions League, with a final in May. A22 Sports' proposal was quickly shut down by pundits, players, MPs and numerous governing bodies.

Supporters also held protests outside their grounds. So, in the 'Unity League', A22 Sports have scrapped the plan to give clubs automatic qualification to the competition.

Instead, there would be annual (domestic) merit-based qualification requirements. Rather than two groups of 10 in the ESL, the 'Unity League' will have four leagues – Star League, Gold League, Blue League and Union League – with 96 participating clubs from 55 UEFA associations.

How would the 'Unity League' work?

As aforementioned, the 'Unity League' would consist of 96 clubs from 55 UEFA associations split across four divisions. The 'Unity League' champions would be a team from either the Star League or the Gold League.

Both of which would house 16 teams divided in both cases into two groups of eight. Those eight would play each other home and away, totalling 14 group stage fixtures.

The top two clubs from each of the four groups would go through to a two-legged quarter-final. Then, there would be a pair of single-game semi-finals at a neutral venue – which would be played in the same week as the eventual final.

The Blue and Union leagues would play a similar knockout format.

How to watch the 'Unity League'?

A22 Sports claim that there would be free live streaming for fans worldwide via a 'Unified' platform on an app – similar to Netflix and Amazon Prime. It's said that subscribers could watch the games for free with adverts – that would be suppressed by paying for a subscription, like Spotify.

An official statement reads: "Central to this vision is the Unify platform, a direct-to-fan streaming service announced in December 2023 that will host all live matches. Unify will offer both free, ad-supported viewing of matches as well as affordable premium subscriptions.

"It will also dramatically improve the viewing experience at home by eliminating the need for multiple subscriptions while offering fans the advanced features they have come to expect.

"Finally, it will directly connect clubs with their global fanbases for the first time. Reflecting the importance of this platform to the project’s mission, the proposed A22 competitions have been named the 'Unify League'."

Ange Postecoglou's Lucas Bergvall thinking may change for Tottenham vs Man Utd Carabao Cup tie

Description

Lucas Bergvall took his opportunity with both hands as he delivered a very promising showing on his first Tottenham start in the Premier League. Having to make do with minutes off the bench in the league since his move from Djurgarden, the Swede has had the opportunity to feature regularly for Tottenham in their Europa League campaign.

After making his case in their European tie against Rangers last Thursday, the teenager was brought into the Tottenham XI for Sunday's 5-0 Premier League win away at Southampton. Lining up at the base of Tottenham's midfield and utilising the ball well when in possession, Bergvall was one of a number of players to excel in the big win on the south coast.

Certainly benefiting from Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur's suspensions, the Stockholm-born ace will be hoping he has done enough to get the nod from the off against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening. Bergvall has certainly put himself in contention for a second successive start but Bissouma's return to the fold could possibly complicate things for Postecoglou when it comes to naming his starting XI.

Due to the importance of the game with a semi-final spot at stake, the head coach may opt for the experience of Bissouma in the No.6 role for Tottenham. Given Postecoglou's lack of options in certain positions of late, a selection headache in the middle of the park is certainly a welcome one.

On the latest episode of the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Spurs writer Rob Guest is joined by football.london's Head of Football Lee Wilmot to reflect on Bergvall's performance at St Mary's. As well as analysing the Swede's display and discussing whether he is selected once again in midweek, Djed Spence also comes in for plenty of praise after talking his opportunity with a starring role in the team against Southampton.

The Tottenham Hotspur Fans' Footballer of the Year 2024 award is also a talking point with only one week of voting left to decide this year's winner. Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven are the four players battling it out for the prize.

Amanda Staveley hopeful after NFL visit amid Daniel Levy sale stance

Description

Tottenham Hotspur is in the market for minority investment after announcing in the club's latest accounts that the board is in discussions with prospective investors.

Links with former Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley and her husband and business partner Mehrdad Ghodoussi continue. Over recent months, they have attended Spurs matches and the NFL London Games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

At one point, rumours claimed that the Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was jetting into the capital to make a deal, while a theory has emerged that Crystal Palace co-owner David Blitzer could be ready to jump ship. football.london has the latest on a potential takeover at Tottenham or the sale of a minority stake in the club to investors.

Staveley speaks

Amanda Staveley acknowledged at Bloomberg's 'Women, Money & Power' event in central London earlier this month that she is hopeful about being involved in a Premier League club again five months after leaving Newcastle. "It's so hard to move on from a club that's amazing," she said. "We could never move on from Newcastle, and we never will. But yes, we're looking at a number of investment operations.

"We can't say too much at the moment because of rules around it. But we will be able to talk about it, hopefully in the not too distant future."

Palace co-owner's plan

Crystal Palace co-owner David Blitzer reportedly wants to take sole control of another Premier League club, as Spurs may be available. Blitzer and fellow American investor Josh Harris own an estimated 18 percent each of the Eagles.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon cites sources in the United States when claiming Blitzer wants to lead a bid to buy another team, approaching a decade after buying into Palace, reporting that Spurs may be available 'if the deal is right'.

Alongside business partner Harris, their management company Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment were financing the Sir Martin Broughton-led offer to takeover Chelsea from Roman Abramovich but lost out to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

NFL interest

football.london quashed speculation in early December that US billionaire Jerry Jones was planning to buy Spurs. Reports had suggested that the Cowboys owner was considering a deal to buy the club, which has a well-established relationship with the NFL and hosts games annually at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jones, one of America's wealthiest individuals with an estimated net worth of £12.84billion, has previously been linked with Spurs. And rumours claimed that Jones was jetting into London to negotiate a deal. However, football.london understands those reports were wide of the mark and that Jones will not be purchasing or investing in the club.

Staveley 're-positioning'

The company through which Amanda Staveley invested in Newcastle United has gone into voluntary liquidation. On Monday, 14 October, a filing with Companies House revealed that Redstart Leisure Limited had filed a special resolution to wind up the company, with a voluntary liquidator to be appointed.

The move came just two weeks after the company changed its name from Cantervale Limited to Redstart and three weeks after another one of Staveley’s companies, Apollo Belvedere Services LLP, formerly known as PCP Capital Partners, having also been wound up. That move came after a legal battle with Greek shipping magnate Victor Restis, who won a court case over a £3.4m sum he was due from investing in her business ventures.

The liquidation of Redstart Leisure Limited, formerly Cantervale, could hint at Staveley re-positioning her and her husband, Merhdad Ghoudoussi’s business interests as they eye a move to get involved in another football club.

'Advanced talks'

In late August, our colleagues at the Mirror reported via The Sun that Staveley and her husband and business partner Mehrdad Ghodoussi were in advanced talks over acquiring a sizeable stake in Spurs. They quote a source close to the deal who claims they are serious about getting involved with the club, which they hoped would be finalised within weeks with an initial investment and at least before the end of this year.

Both are said to have attended the match against Brentford as club guests, with Ghodoussi also reputedly attending the North London Derby. The couple is apparently expected to purchase shares owned by Joe Lewis' family trust.

The Sun then reported in mid-October that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, a close ally of Staveley during their time at St James' Park, will likely be top of a managerial wishlist if any deal materialises. Ange Postecoglou has come under increasing pressure since then but retained Levy's backing as of early December.

Bloomberg reported in mid-July that Spurs are one of multiple clubs, including Monaco, that Staveley is possibly looking at as she searches for another football investment after selling her stake in Newcastle that same month, with talks already said to have taken place with the club's advisors Rothschild and Co. Later in July, The Sunday Times claimed that Staveley had expressed an interest in a stake in Tottenham after reputedly raising £500million through her firm PCP Capital Partners.

Levy latest

In the club's latest set of financial results, which came out in April, Levy acknowledged: "the board and its advisors, Rothschild & Co, are in discussions with prospective investors" as they need to "continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the club requires a significant increase in its equity base".

In late July, the Sunday Times reported that Rothschild bankers were advising on selling a minority stake. They also claimed that raising fresh capital would fund signings, develop an academy for the women's team, and build a 30-storey hotel next to their stadium.

Levy reiterated the club's stance at a fan forum in late September. "We announced with our last results that we believe this club needs a bigger capital base because we've got a lot of exciting projects on the horizon, and we want to make further investment in the teams," the chairman said.

"Some form of minority investment is what we're looking for. We've got nothing to announce at the moment, but we are in the market."

Staveley's stance

Asked by The Athletic what she could say about the potential investment in Tottenham, Stavely said: "Not much, I'm afraid. My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn't always work out exactly how you want it to.

"Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people, and that can't change, but I didn't want to get in Newcastle's way. It's got to be about what's best for Newcastle.

"Mehrdad [Ghodoussi, her husband and fellow financier who was also a Newcastle co-owner] and I are keen to be hands-on. We're hard-working people; I love to be very busy and to engage, and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects, and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club, and that's difficult. But it's possible.

"I don't know what my future holds, but you can never move on from the love I have for Newcastle, and I would love to come back for matches. I'm a Geordie now. I'm a Yorkshire Geordie, but I will always have that chemistry and that love."

Yang Min-hyeok has revealed that he watched Tottenham's 5-0 win over Southampton on Sunday as he couldn't sleep ahead of departing Seoul for London. Fresh from completing the K League season with Gangwon FC, the 18-year-old will finally link up with Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham side after it was announced back in July that he had penned a long-term contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Yang has enjoyed quite the breakthrough year in South Korea and he has been tipped for big things in the future. Ahead of joining forces with his new Tottenham teammates, football.london reported in November that the player will be given plenty of time to adapt rather than be rushed straight into Postecoglou's plans.

Speaking to reporters at Incheon International Airport in Seoul, Yang opened up on his move and revealed that he struggled to sleep in the early hours so opted to watch Tottenham's game at Southampton, which kicked off at 4am on Monday in South Korea.

"It seems like a mixture of excitement and anticipation," he said, as reported by South Korean football journalist Joel Kim. "Ah, I couldn't sleep well, so I watched the Tottenham match for a bit."

He added: "Personally, I’ve been focusing on mental preparation and maintaining my physical fitness, including weight training.

"Since I’ll be joining midway through the season, I’m focusing on rest to avoid injuries while keeping up light workouts to prepare. I’d say I’m at about 80–90% readiness.

"Tottenham has advised me to focus on recovery since I’ll be arriving after finishing my league season. They’ve also provided a training programme centered around stretching and recovery. This will be my first time in London, so I’m excited and looking forward to going."

Needing time to adapt to a new country, new football club and also Postecoglou's football philosophy, it may be some time before Yang goes on to make an impact in the Tottenham first team. He is hoping to play his part for the Lilywhites in the second half of the season and also contribute in the final third.

"My goal is to complete the remainder of the season without injuries, participate in matches, and contribute to the team with goals or assists," he said. "I haven’t set specific personal goals yet."

Yang will have to decide on his Tottenham shirt number once he arrives in north London as his initial choice currently belongs to fellow youngster Mikey Moore.

"Regarding jersey numbers, I initially wanted 47, but I was informed that it’s already taken," he revealed. "I’ll decide on a new number once I arrive."

The youngster is now just looking forward to starting his Tottenham career and learning from the senior players at the club.

"Personally, I feel ready, and I’ll work even harder to show my best performance. I hope fans will continue to cheer for me," outlined Yang. "While I haven’t shown much yet, I’ll do my best, and I’m excited for this new chapter at Tottenham. I look forward to learning from senior players there and working hard to contribute to the team."

Lucas Bergvall names 'unbelievable' Tottenham trio vs Southampton as he realises childhood dream

Lucas Bergvall has hailed Tottenham trio Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski as "unbelievable players" following their starring roles in the 5-0 win over Southampton. Maddison put Spurs on their way to victory with the opening goal after 37 seconds, with Son and Kulusevski then finding the net themselves as the visitors raced into a 3-0 lead after only 14 minutes.

Pape Matar Sarr gave Spurs a four-goal cushion 11 minutes later, before Maddison grabbed his second of the contest on the stoke of half-time. It proved to be an excellent day for Ange Postecoglou's side as they bounced back in style following a tough run of late.

Bergvall was handed his first Tottenham start in the game at St Mary's and he duly caught the eye with a mature display at the base of Spurs' midfield. Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the game, the Swede opened up on his first Tottenham start and hailed his teammates for the part they played in the win.

"It felt really good," admitted the teenager. "It has been a dream since I was a young kid to start in the Premier League, so I'm really grateful for that. The team helped me and Djed [Spence] today, our first start and I think we all did amazing."

He added: “It’s a big difference for me, coming from the Swedish league. It’s a big difference when you are 18 years old. I am learning every day.

“Trying to train to get better, to get better confidence and get better physically. Learning from the best. You saw Sonny, Madders, Deki today. Unbelievable players.”

Son added to his goal with two assists in the match as he teed up Sarr's strike and Maddison's second of the evening. He also put in the cross from the left that fell kindly to Kulusevski to make it three.

Son certainly needed his goal contributions after struggling in the final third of late. It may have just come at the perfect time as well with Manchester United to come in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening before Sunday's Premier League encounter against Liverpool.

Playing his part for Tottenham over the course of the year, Son is in the mix to win the Tottenham Hotspur Fans' Footballer of the Year award for 2024. The Spurs captain, who won the award in 2023, joins Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven and Kulusevski on the four-man shortlist to win the top prize.

As ever, Spurs fans will determine the winner and there is just one week left to vote for your Tottenham Fans' Footballer of the Year for 2024. You can cast your vote by using the widget below.

money signing 'walks into team' ahead of them

Tottenham Hotspur have been advised they would be the perfect fit for Manchester City star Jack Grealish. The £100million man is one of many players struggling for form in Pep Guardiola’s side but Troy Deeney believes Spurs could be the ideal move to help Grealish reignite his career.

Grealish, 29, set the Premier League alight during his time at boyhood club Aston Villa and was a mainstay in the City side that won the treble in 2023. Since then, the winger has been in and out of the team, making just five league starts so far this term.

As City continue to grapple with their significant drop-off in form, the club will be expected to revamp their squad next season. While there has been no suggestion that Spurs are interested in signing Grealish, Deeney believes that the City star would easily usurp Tottenham’s star players, such as Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, in the pecking order.

“Spurs, he walks into that team in every position. Whether that’s as a winger, No.10 or No.8,” Deeney told talkSPORT. “Arsenal, no, I don’t think he works at Arsenal. Liverpool, he doesn’t at Liverpool. He’s obviously not going to go Manchester United, but he’s better than what they’ve got.

“Newcastle, easy. There’s loads of teams, anyone outside the top four, I’d argue he’d do well at Chelsea, but they’ve got about 75 wingers. He’s probably too cheap for them at £100m to be fair, they’d want to waste a bit more money!

“Anyone outside the top four, he would easily go into and dominate, if he went to Newcastle, it would be considered a massive step down for him. But it’s a great club with a great fanbase and I think Jack needs to feel that again, feel that he’s loved, feel that the fanbase love him, but also he’s the man to drive them forward.”

Deeney ruled out the possibility of Grealish returning to Villa, partly due to the pundit’s own Birmingham City bias but also to avoid the added pressure of replicating his earlier success. However, the former Watford icon believes the forward is approaching a pivotal point in his career.

“I think he is in danger of having his legacy ruined,” Deeney argued. “And what I mean by that is, I don’t think you can say he hasn’t lived up to his potential, because look at what he did at Villa and he did it for a sustained period of time.

“What’s happening now is, in football, it’s, ‘What have you done lately?’ and he hasn’t done a great deal lately due to injuries and being out of the team.”

“I think a fresh start would be great for him and somewhere where he’s the main man again and everyone is giving him the ball,” he added. “Because people like Jack, they need to have the ball every couple of minutes – and not being stood on the side – and when they get it, run a little bit and pass it back.

“But I think you’re going to see a new role for him at City, I think you’re going to see him as a No.8 – just driving out of midfield. I think he can handle that position really well, and that’ll be good for England as well.”
