Under-fire head coach Thomas Frank has a big opportunity to get Spurs fans back onside tonight

Tottenham head to Germany tonight knowing victory over Eintracht Frankfurt would secure their place in the Champions League last 16 and offer some much-needed breathing space for head coach Thomas Frank.

Spurs come into the final matchday sitting fifth in the league-phase table on 14 points, just a single point clear of the chasing pack.

That means qualification is very much in their own hands, but there is little margin for error as pressure continues to swirl around the north London club.

Frank’s side eased some of that tension last week with a hugely impressive 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, a result that arrived at a critical moment after a long winless run stretching back to December.

That European victory briefly steadied the ship and reignited belief that Spurs can still salvage their continental campaign.

Domestic issues quickly resurfaced at the weekend, however.

Tottenham needed a late Cristian Romero equaliser to rescue a point against Burnley, a result that did little to quiet unrest among supporters.

The pressure on Frank intensified once again, with audible frustration from the travelling fanbase as Spurs struggled to impose themselves against relegation opposition.

Despite those concerns, Spurs remain well positioned in Europe. Being inside the top eight heading into the final round is a significant positive, and a win in Frankfurt would remove any doubt over progression to the knockout stages.

That task may not be straightforward. Frankfurt may be out of contention for a play-off place, but they will be eager to finish their campaign strongly, particularly after recently parting company with head coach Dino Toppmöller.

The Bundesliga side are currently eighth domestically and have not tasted victory since mid-December, yet the Deutsche Bank Park remains a testing environment on European nights.

Frankfurt vs Tottenham team news

Tottenham’s preparations have again been disrupted by fitness concerns. Pedro Porro is facing several weeks out with a hamstring injury, while other availability issues continue to test Frank’s squad depth.

Spurs will hope their key players can rise to the occasion as qualification hangs in the balance on a decisive night in Germany.
