Description

JAKARTA - Tottenham Hotspur will host Manchester City in the English League continuation, Sunday, February 2 WIB, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This match is a tough test for Spurs who are struggling to get out of inconsistency, as well as City's opportunity to continue to pressure Arsenal in the title race.

Both teams come with a 2-0 victory in the Champions League. Tottenham eliminated Eintracht Frankfurt, while Manchester City performed convincingly when defeating Galatasaray. However, performance in European competitions has not fully reflected the domestic conditions, especially for Spurs.

Tottenham are still struggling in the English League since the turn of the year. Thomas Frank's children have not won a single league victory in 2026, with a record of three draws and two defeats in the last five matches. The 2-2 draw against Burnley in the previous match again highlighted the fragility of Spurs' consistency, which is now stranded in 14th place in the standings.

However, the club's management still gives Frank confidence amid the increasing dissatisfaction of the fans. The victory over Frankfurt at least gave a moral injection and maintained Spurs' chances in the European competition.

On the other hand, Manchester City comes with high confidence. Two consecutive victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Galatasaray are signals of Pep Guardiola's team's revival after going through a period without a win in the league. The victory over Wolves also cut the gap with Arsenal to four points, although the Gunners still have one match in hand.

City also has a mission to avenge the 0-2 defeat from Spurs in the first meeting of the season at the Etihad. Interestingly, The Citizens actually performed quite solidly when traveling to Tottenham's headquarters in the last two seasons and have the opportunity to record three consecutive away wins in the league over Spurs for the first time.

Team Condition

Tottenham could get good news with the possible return of Micky van de Ven after missing out due to minor problems. A number of players such as Conor Gallagher and Yves Bissouma are also available again after missing out on the Champions League. However, the list of Spurs injuries is still long, with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Pedro Porro, Richarlison, and Rodrigo Bentancur confirmed as absent.

Manchester City is also not completely free from fitness problems. Jeremy Doku is confirmed to be out due to a calf injury, following several defenders who are still in treatment. Even so, City got a big boost with the return of Rodri, as well as Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi who are ready to perform in the domestic competition.

Tottenham is known as one of the most difficult opponents for Guardiola in the English League. However, with an unstable league performance and an ongoing injury crisis, Spurs are expected to have trouble stopping City who are finding their rhythm.

Predicted Starting XI

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario; Spence, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Palhinha, Gallagher; Odobert, Simons, Kolo Muani; Solanke
