And now, Sport Bibeln, a local Swedish daily, claim that Liverpool have made contact with the Swede’s family to test the waters over a potential transfer.

The report also mentions interest from Barcelona, who have a historic interest in the player.

Bergvall has featured regularly for Tottenham in pre-season, and Roberto De Zerbi has signaled his desire to keep the young midfielder.

“I’m always being very clear with him and with you. I would like him to stay with us,” said the Tottenham boss recently in a press conference.

“I think he’s potentially a top, top, top player. But then I don’t want to convince anyone to stay.

“Tottenham is already, without me, a top club and we are not to convince anyone to stay. He can find the space if he stays with us.”

Judging by De Zerbi’s comments, he would like to keep Bergvall at Tottenham. However, his staying at the club isn’t a foregone conclusion, especially with clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona waiting patiently on the wings.

Tottenham also have an interest in Cody Gakpo, which is another factor that could come into consideration if the two parties decide to engage in talks for Bergvall.
