Tottenham target Man City star – but two obstacles stand in the way

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly setting their sights on one of Manchester City’s most decorated players.

With the January transfer window approaches, Spurs’ need for reinforcements has become evident. Among their potential targets, Jack Grealish, a player synonymous with creativity and flair, has captured attention.

The England international, currently plying his trade at the Etihad, has enjoyed significant success since his record-breaking move from Aston Villa in 2021.

Tottenham target Manchester City star

According to The Boy Hotspur, whispers of a potential departure have begun to surface, sparking interest from Tottenham. Whether a move to north London will materialise remains uncertain.

While Ange Postecoglou’s squad would undoubtedly benefit from Grealish’s prowess, the road to signing him is anything but straightforward.

The obstacles in the way suggest this could be a long shot for Spurs. Jack Grealish’s tenure at Manchester City has been marked by highs and lows.

Since his £100m transfer, he’s helped secure three Premier League titles and a Champions League, contributing 14 goals and 20 assists across 143 appearances.

However, Grealish has not always been a guaranteed starter under Pep Guardiola despite these achievements.

Tottenham, currently sitting mid-table in 11th place, are keen to bolster their squad as injuries have taken their toll.

The challenges of signing Jack Grealish

As quoted by TBR, Grealish’s creativity and experience would be invaluable, but there are two major hurdles to overcome:

Grealish is one of City’s highest earners, reportedly making £300,000 per week. For comparison, only Erling Haaland (£375,000) and Kevin De Bruyne (£400,000) earn more. Matching this wage or persuading him to accept a pay cut poses a significant challenge for Spurs.

Reports suggest that Grealish is 'more than settled and happy' in Manchester. Leaving a club where he’s found stability and success may not appeal to the midfielder.

Adding to Tottenham’s woes is the fact that Aston Villa, Grealish’s former club, are also keen to bring him back.

Given his deep connection to Villa and the Midlands, a return to his boyhood club might be more enticing than a fresh start in north London.

Signing Grealish would signal Tottenham’s intent to compete at the highest level. His ability to unlock defences, retain possession under pressure, and deliver in crucial moments is exactly what the squad needs.

However, the financial and emotional ties binding Grealish to his current circumstances cannot be ignored.

Whether Tottenham can pull off such an ambitious signing remains to be seen, Ange Postecoglou’s desire to rebuild Spurs is unwavering.

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been far from smooth, and the challenges have extended to their captain, Heung-Min Son.

As the team grapples with underwhelming performances, the spotlight is also shining brightly on Son, whose recent struggles have left fans concerned.

For a player who has been a cornerstone of the Spurs’ attack for nearly a decade, this dip in form raises questions about his ability to reclaim his best.

Sunday’s clash against Wolves seemed like the perfect opportunity for Son to turn things around. However, the match took a disappointing turn, leaving both the player and the fans with more questions than answers.

Despite the hurdles, Son remains a symbol of resilience for Tottenham. But how will he address the mounting pressure, and what steps is he taking to ensure he doesn’t repeat the mistakes of the past?

In Sunday’s encounter with Wolves, Tottenham were handed a crucial lifeline in the form of a penalty.

With the team in desperate need of a confidence boost, all eyes were on Son as he stepped up to take the spot-kick. Unfortunately, his effort was saved, denying Spurs a chance to gain the upper hand.

Heung-Min Son misses a penalty and vows to bounce back

Speaking to Sport Chosun after the match, Son admitted the missed penalty weighed heavily on him. "Of course, I'm so sorry to my team members. I've been putting in a lot of PKs lately. Since I can't do it this time, I think I need to make a chance to practice a little more," he said.

The missed opportunity seemed to reflect the broader struggles of Tottenham’s captain. Subbed off in the 64th minute, Son’s performance was emblematic of a player seeking to rediscover his spark.

Son’s woes come at a pivotal moment in his career. At 32 and with his contract nearing its end, the forward is navigating a period of introspection.

Known for his clinical finishing and relentless work ethic, his recent form contrasts sharply with the heights he has reached in previous seasons.

A season of reflection for Heung-Min Son

Adding to the pressure, Tottenham’s collective struggles have magnified individual errors. The team’s inability to consistently perform has left players like Son carrying the weight of expectations.

However, Son’s willingness to accept responsibility and focus on improvement is a testament to his character.

His admission that he needs more penalty practice is a small but telling step towards regaining confidence.

For Tottenham and their captain, the journey to redemption is far from over, but it’s clear that Son is determined to lead the charge.

Is Ange Postecoglou leading Tottenham into a new era?

Description

The winds of change are blowing through North London, and at the heart of it all stands Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian manager has captured the attention of supporters, reshaping the club’s identity with his bold philosophy.

As Spurs gear up for what promises to be a defining moment, anticipation builds around whether this revival can translate into tangible success.

From tactical adjustments to newfound camaraderie on the pitch, Postecoglou’s methods are nothing short of revolutionary.

Yet, the question remains: will this approach truly propel Tottenham into the upper echelons of English football?

Ange Postecoglou’s tactical revolution

Fans are cautiously optimistic. After years of near misses and frustrations, it seems the tide might finally be turning.

But as the pressure mounts, so too does the curiosity surrounding Tottenham’s current trajectory. Ange Postecoglou’s appointment marked a dramatic shift for Tottenham, both in philosophy and execution.

Gone are the days of reactive football; the Australian has implemented a high-intensity, possession-based system that prioritises attacking flair and defensive cohesion.

According to Football London, in a recent interview, Postecoglou emphasised his commitment to this transformation: "Football is about entertaining the fans and bringing them joy. For me, that means playing a style of football that excites and inspires."

The results speak for themselves: Tottenham currently boasts one of the most prolific attacks in the Premier League, with their forwards thriving under this new regime.

One standout moment came during their recent clash with a top-four rival. Spurs dominated possession, created numerous chances, and ultimately secured a vital victory that underscored their progress under Postecoglou.

It was a performance that not only delighted fans but also sent a clear message to the rest of the league: Tottenham are serious contenders this season.

The numbers and impact

Statistically, the impact of Postecoglou’s approach is undeniable. Tottenham ranks among the top three teams for average possession per game and expected goals.

Their defensive record has also improved, with fewer goals conceded compared to the same stage last season.

Off the pitch, the atmosphere around the club has transformed. Players and staff frequently highlight the manager’s ability to foster unity and belief within the squad.

A recent statement from a senior player encapsulated this: "We know what the boss expects from us, and we’re all pushing in the same direction. There’s a real sense of purpose now."

Whether it leads to silverware remains to be seen, but for now, Spurs fans have every reason to dream.

Journalist gives transfer window update

Description

According to a report from Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at recruits in a number of positions, including a new centre-back, left-back and a midfielder - whilst also "considering" the current goalkeeper situation.

Journalist gives an update on the January transfer window

In the report, it is suggested that there is an "understanding" within the club of the tough situation Ange is in, the impact of the tired players currently playing every three days, and how his high octane style of play is limited as a result.

Interestingly, Gold points out that Fabio Paratici was at the game against Wolves - just three days before the January transfer window opens. It is well documented that the former Spurs director of football still plays an unofficial role behind the scenes, and plays his part in the recruitment of new players.

Even the fans most cynical towards Ange will admit that there is a clear need for investment in January, and that the club will have failed him if they do not provide that. There is a lot of division within the fanbase towards the manager, but the attitude towards Daniel Levy and co feels more unanimous than it has been for a while.

Spurs ended the game yesterday with a left hand side of Sergio Reguilon and Timo Werner. Daniel Levy was there. If he saw that and thinks investment is not necessary, then he may be more shameless than all of us already thought. Does he even know football well enough to have clocked that? He probably sees them as two footballers in the same way if the left hand side was Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe.

Still, if they are going to go in for a left-back, it will be interesting to see if Patrick Dorgu comes up again, with the club interested in the Denmark international at Lecce for a while now. At centre-back, they have been linked with Uzbekistan's Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens. Elsewhere, Milan Skriniar of PSG has also been mentioned regarding central defenders.

As for midfielders, it feels like there have been fewer names mentioned. Spurs have the option to sign USMNT midfielder Jonny Cardoso from Real Betis for around £25m - but it appears that is a clause that will be available in the summer, rather than this window. The club were recently linked to Quinten Timber from Feyenoord - so that could be one to keep an eye on.

Whilst recruitment is key in January - it is also important to be better than this time last winter, where the club brought in Radu Dragusin and Werner. With the current bare bones scenario, there will be an attitude of "anyone will do" and "bodies in is the most important thing", which is understandable - but two signings of the aforementioned quality will not do a lot to help turn the season around.

In 2022, we saw the club bring in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. Admittedly the former has been more hit and miss, but in general that is much more of the January window that Spurs need. That window was during Paratici's official time at the club.

Every transfer window is well documented and covered, but this one feels bigger than most in recent years. Let's see.

The three best Tottenham Hotspur matches of 2024

Description

With Spurs’ disappointing draw at home to Wolves, there 2024 was concluded.

It is safe to say it has not been the year anybody wanted, with an inability to build on the progress made in the second half of 2023.

Still, amdist the chaos – there were some good moments. Here are the three best games of the calendar year.Â

Coming into this game, both sides were firmly locking horns in the battle for the fourth European spot.

Spurs had been struggling on the road, and Villa had been formidable at home. This was seen as a very tough game.Â

After a goalless first half, everything began to fall in the favour of Ange’s side early in the second period.

Just five minutes after the break, Maddison scored the opening goal of the game from close range, having been well found by Pape Sarr. Â

Just three minutes later, one became two. Heung Min-Son slipped Brennan Johnson through on goal, and the Welshman kept his composure to fire past Emi Martinez in the Villa goal. Â

With twenty-five minutes remaining, captain John McGinn was shown a red card for a late foul on Destiny Udogie, allowing the game to really open up for Spurs and take advantage of the opportunity at hand from there on in. Â

It looked like Tottenham were going to come away with an, in the circumstances, slightly underwhelming 2-0 victory – but they really put the gloss on things in stoppage time.

Superb work down the right hand side from Dejan Kulusevski created space for him to cut the ball back to Son, who emphatically fired a strike into the back of the net. Â

Then, four minutes into stoppages – good work from Son lead to a cutback for Timo Werner, who expertly finished the ball into the far corner.Â

At the moment, it feels like everything that could go wrong, is going wrong. That day, it felt like everything that could go well, did go well. Â

Former player slams Tottenham's Fraser Forster for 'turning his back' at the goal

Tottenham and Fraser Forster faced tough criticism after a late equaliser against Wolves dashed their hopes of returning to winning ways in the Premier League.

The Spurs were leading 2-1 at half-time but were unable to hold onto their advantage, leaving everyone frustrated at a missed opportunity.

Forster, standing in for injured first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, was singled out for his role in the decisive goal.

Tottenham’s defensive woes have been a recurring issue this season, and Sunday’s match only added to their growing list of frustrations.

With the club now 11th in the table and far from Champions League contention, manager Ange Postecoglou has the unenviable task of lifting his injury-ravaged squad out of this slump.

After conceding an early goal, Tottenham regained momentum in the first half.

A well-executed corner allowed Rodrigo Bentancur to head Spurs level before Brennan Johnson gave them a slender lead with a calm finish. However, despite their dominance, the team failed to extend their advantage in the second half.

The pivotal moment came in the 87th minute when Jorgen Strand Larsen fired a powerful shot past Forster at the near post.

Stephen Warnock criticised Forster’s technique

While it was a fiercely struck effort, former England international Stephen Warnock criticised Forster’s technique, stating on BBC Final Score:

“Fraser Forster has been done near post. The run from Jorgen Strand Larsen is lovely, as is the pass from Rayan Ait Nouri, and Strand Larsen lashes the ball as hard as he can near post, top corner.”

Tottenham’s inability to convert chances in the second half and a defensive lapse from Radu Dragusin compounded their misfortunes, leaving them with just two wins in their last nine Premier League outings.

“Forster almost turns his back on it rather than standing tall and being brave. He should not be beaten from there,” he added.

Mounting challenges for Ange Postecoglou

Forster’s performance wasn’t the only concern for Spurs. With key players sidelined by injuries, including several defenders and Vicario, Postecoglou has been forced to rely on a limited core of players.

This lack of depth was evident in the team’s fatigued second-half performance.

Postecoglou remained empathetic but acknowledged the shortcomings, saying: "It’s obvious, you know, the lads are fairly fatigued... We’re asking a lot of a sort of small core group of players."

Tottenham’s next match against Newcastle poses a significant challenge, and with the squad stretched thin, Postecoglou faces an uphill battle to steer his side back on track.

The clock is ticking for Spurs to address their vulnerabilities before their season slips further out of reach.

Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham to miss next match against Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury woes continue to grow as they now face the prospect of being without key midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur for their next match.

The 26-year-old was handed a one-match suspension after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season in Tottenham’s recent 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The match itself saw Tottenham struggle to maintain the energy levels required to secure a win.

With an unchanged starting lineup, except for Pedro Porro replacing the suspended Djed Spence, Spurs started the game with intent, but as the second half progressed, the team’s fatigue became more evident.

Despite manager Ange Postecoglou making a triple substitution on the 64th minute, the lack of fresh legs and mounting injuries left the squad stretched.

Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended for the match against Newcastle

Tottenham will now have to face Newcastle United in the first match of the new year without Bentancur.

After serving a seven-match suspension earlier in the season, the Uruguayan international had hoped to regain his rhythm and help his team’s push for a top-four finish.

However, his yellow card against Wolves means he has accumulated five bookings before the mid-season break, thus earning a suspension for the next game.

This suspension is a significant blow for Tottenham, as they continue to deal with the fallout of a long list of injured players.

Bentancur’s suspension will leave Tottenham further short in midfield, already missing other key players.

The timing of the suspension is particularly frustrating for the player, who had been striving to find his form after his earlier absence.

Impact of the suspension on Tottenham

Tottenham's struggles with injuries and suspensions have plagued their season so far.

Bentancur’s yellow cards were mostly picked up at the start of the season, and while it’s tempting to criticise his latest booking, it’s clear that Spurs need their senior players back in action.

The lack of fresh options on the bench has become a major issue, with manager Postecoglou forced to rely on a small core of players.

In Bentancur’s absence, Yves Bissouma is likely to receive more minutes, though the team will miss Bentancur’s presence in the midfield.

The suspension only compounds Tottenham’s ongoing difficulties and could hinder their efforts to push up the table.

With a busy fixture schedule ahead and key players still on the sidelines, Tottenham will need to dig deep if they are to maintain their ambitions this season.

Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou claims that they had 'big moments' in the last match

Tottenham Hotspur’s latest outing against Wolverhampton Wanderers ended in frustration, as they were forced to settle for a draw despite dominating large parts of the match.

Ange Postecoglou’s side went into the game under immense pressure, having suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

The need for a response was clear, not only to restore confidence within the squad but also to maintain their pursuit of a top-four finish.

However, Tottenham quickly regrouped, and Rodrigo Bentancur equalised with a header from a Pedro Porro corner.

The home side then appeared to be in control, and Brennan Johnson put them ahead, giving Spurs a slender 2-1 lead.

Yet, the game was far from over, and despite Tottenham’s dominance, they could not put the game to bed.

Tottenham were given the opportunity to extend their lead after Johnson won a penalty, but Heung-min Son’s spot-kick was saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, adding to the tension.

In the dying minutes, the visitors punished Tottenham’s inability to kill off the game, scoring a late equaliser and leaving Spurs with just a point.

Ange Postecoglou reflects on disappointment

According to Football London, Ange Postecoglou’s post-match thoughts were candid as he assessed the 2-2 draw.

Reflecting on his team’s performance, he said: "It's a disappointing outcome. Obviously we went a goal down but after that I felt we controlled the game. It wasn't easy always to get openings but we did look pretty threatening every time we did get forward."

Despite Spurs’ dominance in possession and chances, the Australian manager acknowledged the team’s failure to finish the game off, which ultimately led to the frustrating draw.

Postecoglou continued, "We scored a couple of goals, we obviously missed the penalty and then second half, I just thought we had some really big moments to kill the game off. The lads are fairly fatigued (...), we're not as sharp as we can be, which is understandable because we're asking a lot of a sort of small core group of players."

We scored a couple of goals, we obviously missed the penalty and then second half, I just thought we had some really big moments to kill the game off.

The manager’s words reflect a deeper issue, with fatigue affecting the team’s sharpness and efficiency in front of goal.

Looking ahead to the challenge

While the draw gave Spurs a point, it left their top-four ambitions on shaky ground. The fixture against Newcastle United, a direct rival for a Champions League spot, is now just around the corner.

With key players clearly fatigued, Tottenham will need to find a way to recover quickly if they are to maintain their momentum in the league.

The pressure is on Postecoglou and his team to address their recent shortcomings as the season progresses.

Report: Tottenham adds Danish full

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to bolster their squad as the January transfer window approaches, and one name is rapidly climbing their list of priorities.

Danish defender Patrick Dorgu has emerged as a potential signing, sparking interest across North London.

With recent performances raising questions about the depth and quality of the team’s backline, Spurs fans are eager to see if the club can secure the young talent amidst competition from other European sides.

With injuries and inconsistencies plaguing the Lilywhites' defence, manager Ange Postecoglou appears determined to reinforce key areas, with Dorgu potentially emerging as a crucial addition to helping Tottenham maintain their ambitions this season.

At just 20 years old, Patrick Dorgu has already showcased his talent in Serie A with Lecce.

Capable of playing as a left-back or advancing further as a left-sided winger, his versatility makes him a valuable asset for any team.

Tottenham add Patrick Dorgu to their transfer target list

Reports from GIVEMESPORT suggest that Dorgu tops Tottenham’s shortlist heading into January, despite competition from multiple clubs across Europe.

Tottenham’s interest stems from a pressing need to strengthen the left-back position. Ben Davies, whose contract expires in 2025, faces an uncertain future, while Destiny Udogie’s recent performances have left much to be desired.

Dorgu’s ability to contribute both defensively and offensively positions him as a potential long-term investment.

Lecce are understandably reluctant to part ways with such a promising talent midseason, especially given Dorgu’s importance to their current campaign.

However, should Spurs offer a compelling bid, the Italian club might reconsider.

The Denmark international's club holds a solid negotiating advantage, as his contract—reportedly earning him around £10,000 per week—remains valid until the summer of 2029.

A smart investment for Tottenham?

Dorgu’s youth and potential make him an appealing prospect for Tottenham. His physicality and technical skill have already caught the eye in Serie A, and many believe he has the attributes to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity.

A move in January would not only provide Tottenham with immediate reinforcement but could also prove to be a bargain in the long run if the deal is structured wisely.

The coming weeks will be crucial. If they can fend off interest from rival clubs and agree on a reasonable fee, Dorgu could become a pivotal addition to their campaign and a cornerstone for future success.

However, Lecce’s willingness to negotiate in January remains uncertain. Losing Dorgu would be a significant blow to their squad, and replacements midseason are hard to come by.

Tottenham's manager confirms that Destiny Udogie was taken off due to a hamstring

Description

Tottenham’s injury woes have reached new heights, with Destiny Udogie being the latest casualty in what has become a gruelling season for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Italian full-back was forced off the pitch during their clash against Wolves, adding another name to an already extensive injury list.

With key players already sidelined, Udogie’s departure could not have come at a worse time for Spurs.

The team is navigating a packed schedule, with each new setback pushing their squad depth to its limits.

With another player forced to leave the pitch, concerns about their resilience and long-term prospects continue to grow.

While the Lilywhites are fighting to maintain their strong start to the season, their growing list of absentees threatens to derail their progress, raising concerns about how Postecoglou plans to tackle this crisis.

Destiny Udogie was taken off due to a hamstring

Destiny Udogie was substituted during the second half against Wolves after appearing to clutch his hamstring, raising immediate concerns about his fitness.

According to Football London, the boss said: "Yeah, I think it was a hamstring. Again like I said, we've been relying on a core group of players because we just haven't had the ability to rotate so at some point it was going to catch up with us. Unfortunately it caught up with Destiny."

His exit marked another blow to a defence already stretched thin, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both unavailable due to injuries.

Sergio Reguilon, who has seen limited game time this season, was brought on to replace Udogie, highlighting the lack of options at Postecoglou’s disposal.

The injury compounds Tottenham’s defensive issues, with Ben Davies also out, leaving Spurs scrambling for solutions.

Injury crisis could shape Tottenham’s season

In addition to their defensive struggles, Tottenham’s attacking unit had its share of misfortune during the match.

Heung-min Son missed a first-half penalty, with Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa producing a fine save. Spurs managed to maintain a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson, but their captain’s form will undoubtedly raise eyebrows.

The list of sidelined players is a growing concern for Spurs. Alongside Udogie, Romero, Van de Ven, and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, the team is also missing key contributors like Richarlison and Wilson Odobert.

Such absences test the depth of any squad, and Tottenham’s challenging fixture schedule offers little relief.

Postecoglou will need to navigate this period carefully, ensuring that his team can remain competitive despite the odds.

The manager is likely to address these concerns in his post-match remarks but Tottenham’s ability to adapt and respond to this crisis will define their ambitions for the remainder of the season.
