As the January transfer window approaches, Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou finds himself in a pivotal moment of the season.

With injuries and inconsistent performances exposing gaps in the squad, the upcoming month will be a test of strategy and ambition for Spurs’ leadership.

Everyone is already speculating about the changes needed to reinvigorate the squad. Postecoglou’s side has shown promise but remains vulnerable in key areas.

Reinforcements are not just desired—they’re essential if Spurs are to maintain their push for European football.

The pressure is mounting, and the decisions made in January could define Tottenham’s trajectory for the remainder of the season, with the club needing to prioritise its resources carefully.

Journalist suggests Tottenham should prioritise signing an experienced forward

Reports suggest that Postecoglou has identified two key areas requiring immediate attention: central defence and the attacking line.

Injuries to key defenders such as Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies have left Tottenham’s backline stretched thin.

Dan Kilpatrick of The Evening Standard has described the situation as one that has 'heightened the need for cover at centre-back.'

The club is reportedly targeting an experienced left-sided defender who can also provide depth at left-back.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s frontline has struggled to deliver consistent firepower. Postecoglou is believed to be seeking a versatile forward capable of operating across the front three.

This player would not only address the team’s scoring woes but also add much-needed flexibility to the attack.

Kilpatrick notes that the injury crisis in defence and the underperformance in attack have made these areas top priorities.

However, balancing the budget and addressing all concerns, including midfield shortcomings, remains a challenge.

While defence and attack dominate the agenda, midfield has also been a point of concern. The absence of Rodrigo Bentancur has left a noticeable gap in Tottenham’s ability to control possession.

Players like Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr have struggled to fill the void, particularly against high-pressing opponents.

Midfield considerations

Although not a primary focus, adding a dynamic midfielder who combines energy and technical ability could enhance the team’s overall balance.

With January on the horizon, Tottenham’s decisions will showcase their ambitions.

Whether they aim to secure Champions League football or simply stabilise their season, this transfer window will be a decisive chapter in Postecoglou’s tenure.

Spurs loan watch: Absolutely insane game in fourth tier

Down in League Two, there was a final game of 2024 for Tottenham Hotspur loanee George Abbott and his Notts County side, as they made the trip across to Gloucestershire to face Cheltenham Town for match day 22 of the 24/25 season for the Magpies. They came into this game on the back of consecutive win to nil victories.

Incredible game down in League Two for youngster's side

For this one, manager Stuart Maynard deployed Abbott as a central midfielder in a two man midfield, playing alongside. The teenager had started in the same role last week, where he scored his first ever goal in league football.

It would be the nightmare start, however, with the hosts taking the lead within the first five minutes of the game. After that, Notts would completely dominate possession and territory - and got an equaliser after 26 minutes, with Gambian international Alassana Jatta converting from close range.

With just over five minutes of the first half remaining, Notts would then take the lead. This goal was enough to give them a 2-1 lead heading into the interval. It would not last for very long, though. Within the first two minutes of the second half, Cheltenham equalised and the game was all square once again.

After around 58 minutes or so, Abbott made it two league goals in as many games, with an incredible strike. A Notts corner was cleared as far as the edge of the box, where the on loan Spurs midfielder cut across the ball, and lacing the ball into the top corner.

Then, after an hour - Cheltenham equalised for a second time in the game, making it 3-3. Incredibly, incredibly, Notts would then retake the lead yet again just two minutes after that, making it 4-3 with the third goal in a four minute spell, and fourth goal in seventeen second half minutes. Unbelievable.

Finally, after that - the game settled down. At least in the scoreline. For a while after that, the game stayed at 4-3 to Notts for a while. That was until stoppage time, where Jatta scored his second goal of the game, making it 5-3 to Maynard's side, and at last, making sure that all three points would be heading back to Nottingham.

This win makes it three points in a row for Abbott's side, propelling them all the way into second in the lead, with games in hand on the immediate three teams below them. Walsall have a 12 point lead on top, but in terms of automatic promotion - things are suddenly beginning to look a lot rosier.

Three wins in eight days, and two goals for Abbott. As productive a festive period as you could have asked for. That is a wrap for 2024, with Notts' next game against the aforementioned Walsall side in top spot on New Year's Day, with a 15:00 GMT kick off.

Match Report: Tottenham Hotspur 2

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs welcomed Wolves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for match day nineteen of the 24/25 Premier League campaign.

How everything happened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

For the task at hand, Ange Postecoglu went for a line up of; Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Johnson, Kulusevski, Son; Solanke. Many fans were disappointed at the second consecutive exclusion of Maddison.

Within the first ten minutes of the game, Spurs once again found themselves behind, after Son's compatriot Hee-Chan Hwang opened the scoring for the visitors from just outside of the box. Groundhog day.

However, just a few minutes later - Spurs were level, with Bentancur scoring a header at the near post from a corner. Almost a carbon copy of his goal against Ipswich Town back in November. 00

Midway through the first half, Ange's side could have had their second goal, and their second from set pieces, but Dragusin's header when well placed went off target. With just over five minutes of the first half remaining, Solanke also went close with a header from a corner.

Then, with minutes of the opening period remaining, Spurs were awarded a penalty. However, the skipper stepped up and saw his penalty saved to the keepers bottom right corner, and a guilt edged opportunity had gone. His international team mate was winning the battle between the two.

However, Spurs would still go into the break 2-1 up. Nice link up between Porro and Bentancur carried the ball up the pitch, before finding Kulusevski on the edge of the box. Then, nice link up between him and Johnson lead to a cutback being fired home by the latter, to give Ange's side the lead going into the break.

Five minutes into the second half, Udogie had to be replaced, with Reguilon coming onto replace him. This was the Spanish defenders first meaningful minutes for the club since April of 2022 - with a cameo in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester United last week his only minutes of any note since then.

Around twenty minutes into the half, Ange made a triple sub. Werner, Sarr and Maddison all replaced Son, Bissouma and Johnson. With a little under ten minutes remaining, Kulusevski managed to knock the ball round Jose Sa, but his shot was cleared off the line by Santiago Bueno.

You just knew that would be costly. Fewer than five minutes later, substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen made it 2-2. Just typical. Very, very typical.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Sarr could not convert a header from close range - with the ball a bit behind him. Minutes later, Bentancur picked up an unneccessary yellow, meaning he is now suspended once again.

That would be that, and Spurs were condemned to a 2-2 draw at home. It is 2025 on Wednesday, and the game ended with a Reguilon and Werner left hand side. Miserable.

After the game, the cameras panned to Daniel Levy looking on. Wonder if he knows that he has caused all of this? Hopefully someone bought him some shame and self awareness for Christmas.

Grim.

Tottenham fans are no strangers to transfer speculation, especially when it involves high-profile players.

With the January window on the horizon, the club finds itself linked to some unexpected names, including an England international currently under the spotlight.

The rumours have sent ripples through the football world, with fans wondering whether this particular star would fit into Ange Postecoglou’s high-energy system.

However, as intriguing as the whispers may be, not everything is as straightforward as it seems.

A recent update from a respected journalist sheds new light on the situation, providing a realistic take on whether this potential move could materialise.

Marcus Rashford unlikely to sign for Tottenham, journalist claims

The Athletic’s Jay Harris has addressed the speculation linking Marcus Rashford with Tottenham, offering insights into the club’s stance on the Manchester United forward.

Rashford, who has not featured for United since Ruben Amorim took charge, is reportedly heading for an exit from his boyhood club.

Tottenham, Juventus, and Bayern Munich have been named as possible destinations for the 27-year-old, sparking debate about his next move. Yet, Harris has suggested that Spurs may not prioritise Rashford in their plans.

Speaking to The Athletic, Harris noted that Tottenham are expected to bolster their attack in the upcoming window but are likely to focus on players under the age of 23.

Another significant barrier is Rashford’s hefty £325,000-a-week salary, which far exceeds Tottenham’s wage structure. Harris pointed out that for any deal to happen, Rashford would need to take a considerable pay cut.

Additionally, Rashford’s preferred role on the left wing complicates matters further, as Heung-Min Son currently occupies that position.

The presence of players like Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert in similar roles also reduces the likelihood of the transfer.

Why Rashford might not fit Postecoglou's system

While Marcus Rashford’s attacking prowess is undeniable, questions remain about his suitability for Ange Postecoglou’s philosophy.

Harris highlighted concerns regarding the forward’s work rate off the ball, a non-negotiable trait for players in Tottenham’s high-pressing system.

The potential signing would also represent a shift from Tottenham’s recent recruitment model, which prioritises younger, more adaptable players.

With Rashford’s age, salary, and positional preferences, it appears unlikely that Spurs will pursue the England international seriously.

For now, Tottenham seem focused on reinforcing their squad with players who align with Postecoglou’s vision, leaving Rashford’s future elsewhere.

Tottenham rekindles interest in last year's defensive target

Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive woes have been a cause for concern this season, with injuries decimating their backline.

Manager Ange Postecoglou finds himself scrambling for reinforcements, and one name has resurfaced on the club’s radar—Ko Itakura.

The Japanese defender, currently playing for Borussia Monchengladbach, is a potential target for Tottenham as they look to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window.

Tottenham's hopes of securing Champions League football this season are looking increasingly slim, with key injuries to defenders Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies.

The club’s most recent blow came when Radu Dragusin, signed in the summer to add depth, suffered an ankle injury during their Boxing Day match.

Tottenham reconsiders Ko Itakura

With limited options at the heart of defence, Postecoglou and Tottenham’s technical director, Johan Lange, are already considering how best to strengthen the squad ahead of the second half of the season.

According to GIVEMESPORT, one of the names on Tottenham's list is Ko Itakura, a player they had previously monitored in 2023.

The 27-year-old is entering the final 18 months of his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach, and this has presented Tottenham with a potential opportunity to negotiate a deal.

While not the club’s top target at the moment, sources suggest that Tottenham are considering a formal approach once the January transfer window opens.

Itakura combines pace and athleticism, making defending seem effortless. Although primarily right-footed, he is adept with both feet and has frequently played as a left-sided centre-back.

His playing style is reminiscent of Jan Vertonghen, the former Tottenham defender now at Benfica.

His ability to play out from the back and fit into Postecoglou's high-pressing system makes him an attractive option for Tottenham.

How has Ko Itakura performed this season?

He currently earns £30,000 per week at Monchengladbach, and Spurs could test the waters with a move that takes advantage of the defender’s contract situation.

However, Tottenham’s pursuit of Itakura will not be without competition. Serie A giants Napoli and Dutch heavyweights PSV Eindhoven have also shown interest in the Japanese international.

Here are Itakura's statistics for the 2024/25 season:

* Data provided by Sofascore.

The growing competition reflects the defender’s rising stock, and securing his signature could prove challenging for Tottenham.

Whether Spurs can fend off this competition and land Itakura remains to be seen, but with their defensive crisis deepening, the club's January plans could hinge on bringing in reinforcements like the Monchengladbach star.

Former Tottenham scout questions 'whether it was a mistake' to sign Spurs defender

Tottenham Hotspur's defensive ranks have been stretched thin this season, with injuries leaving their backline in disarray.

Among those called upon to fill the gaps is Radu Dragusin, a summer signing who arrived in January 2024 for a club-record €25 million.

The 22-year-old Romanian has been thrust into regular action, but his future at Spurs has become a topic of increasing speculation.

Dragusin's time at Tottenham has been a mixed bag. While he's been a regular presence in the squad due to injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, questions about his long-term place in the club's future have emerged.

As the season progresses, it seems that Tottenham will face some tough decisions regarding the young defender.

Bryan King weighs in on Radu Dragusin's situation

According to Tottenham News and quoted by The Boy Hotspur, former Spurs scout Bryan King commented on the situation, stating, "They can’t cash in on him at the moment. Therefore, I can’t see him leaving until the end of the season."

King’s comments reflect the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Dragusin’s future at Tottenham.

"He has only just joined the football club, whether it was a mistake to sign him, that is still under scrutiny," King added. "For me, when you lose those two main centre-backs, he is not your immediate answer. However, they’re going to have to stick with him until the end of the season."

However, Dragusin has shown moments of promise but has also faced difficulties, including a red card on his Europa League debut against Qarabag.

Despite these setbacks, Dragusin has provided valuable depth to a squad that has been struggling to cope with numerous injuries.

Will Tottenham let Radu Dragusin go soon?

His performances have not been without challenges. The team's aggressive style of play, coupled with an ongoing injury crisis, has left Dragusin vulnerable in a defence already under pressure.

Since his arrival, Dragusin has featured prominently, making 19 appearances across all competitions and starting 17 of those matches.

While Dragusin's immediate future is secure for now, with Spurs needing his services during this injury crisis, his longer-term role at the club remains unclear.

With key defenders still sidelined, Tottenham cannot afford to lose Dragusin midseason, but his performance over the coming months will likely dictate whether he remains a part of Postecoglou’s plans beyond this season.

If his form continues to improve, Spurs may decide to retain him, but if not, a potential transfer in the summer seems likely.

Former Tottenham scout deems Heung

Tottenham Hotspur’s star forward, Heung-Min Son, has been a standout player for the club for years, consistently delivering incredible performances.

However, his recent form has sparked concern, leading many to question whether the 32-year-old is still at the peak of his powers.

The issues come against the backdrop of his contract situation, with some speculating that unsettled talks could be affecting his motivation.

Son has failed to replicate the standards he's set for himself this season, leaving fans wondering if he is past his best.

The forward’s recent performances have been notably lacklustre, and his efforts on the pitch seem somewhat disconnected.

Tottenham have long relied on the South Korean international, but with only six months left on his current deal, there is growing uncertainty about his future.

Bryan King comments on Heung-Min Son's situation

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bryan King, a former Tottenham scout, weighed in on the situation, suggesting that Son’s recent form could be linked to the club’s hesitation in offering him a long-term contract.

King stated, "This should have been sorted out three or four months ago. It is ridiculous. This is a player of quality who has given his football career to Tottenham."

He also expressed concerns about Son's commitment, saying, “Watching the way he has played recently, I question whether 100 per cent of his heart is still at Tottenham because I’d certainly feel aggrieved if I were him. I’m not sure whether Son is happy at the moment."

Although Tottenham are expected to trigger a one-year extension on Son's current deal, fans and pundits alike are wondering why the club hasn’t formalised longer-term talks.

This delay has reportedly left Son's camp surprised, as the initial discussions had led everyone to believe a long-term agreement was forthcoming.

Despite this, the 32-year-old remains professional and continues to work hard for the team.

Heung-Min Son's future at Spurs

Son's commitment to Tottenham remains evident despite the contractual concerns.

As King highlighted, Son has been a standout player for Spurs since joining the club, and his performances over the years have been exceptional.

Despite the current uncertainty, Son’s body language and work ethic suggest that he still cares deeply about the club’s success.

It’s clear that Tottenham’s handling of Son’s contract could play a significant role in his future with the club.

Regardless of the outcome, one thing is certain: Son’s impact at Spurs will be remembered for years to come.

Tottenham will wait until summer to move for James Trafford

Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeping situation has been under close scrutiny since Guglielmo Vicario fractured his ankle last month.

With the Italian’s injury ruling him out for several weeks, Spurs have been looking for ways to bolster their squad.

However, despite the club’s interest in bringing in a new goalkeeper, it seems they are now reconsidering their options for the immediate future.

Tottenham decide to address goalkeeper position until next summer

As quoted by The Spurs Web, instead of making a move this January, Tottenham have decided to wait until next summer to address the position, with current backup Fraser Forster set to hold the fort in the meantime.

Tottenham’s current goalkeeping situation has been anything but straightforward. After Vicario’s injury, the club began exploring potential replacements, with Burnley’s James Trafford emerging as the top candidate according to The Athletic.

Trafford, who has impressed in the Premier League since establishing himself as Burnley’s number one, is reportedly valued at around £20 million.

The Englishman has quickly become one of the most sought-after young talents in the league, and Tottenham have reportedly been monitoring his progress closely.

However, despite their interest in Trafford, Tottenham have now opted to delay any potential move until the summer transfer window.

The primary reason for this decision is that Vicario is expected to return within the next couple of months, which would make an immediate signing unnecessary.

Spurs are confident that once Vicario is back in action, the goalkeeping position will be secure for the remainder of the season.

Fraser Forster keeps the goal until Vicario's return

In the meantime, Fraser Forster will continue as Tottenham’s starting goalkeeper. Despite a couple of high-profile mistakes earlier in the season, including two errors against Manchester United, Forster has largely been reliable when called upon.

His experience and solid performances have given manager Ange Postecoglou the confidence to keep him in the starting role until Vicario is fit again.

Forster’s two costly mistakes against Manchester United were quickly brought into focus, with some critics questioning his ability to handle the pressure.

However, it’s worth noting that apart from those errors, the 36-year-old has shown composure and professionalism.

Tottenham’s decision to delay the pursuit of a goalkeeper for now reflects their belief that Forster can manage until Vicario’s recovery.

With James Trafford potentially joining the club in the summer, Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation may soon see a fresh face.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou remains optimistic: 'We’re not that far off'

Tottenham Hotspur's season has been far from smooth sailing, with manager Ange Postecoglou facing a series of challenges as the team struggles to find its footing in the Premier League.

Despite their early optimism, Spurs now find themselves in a precarious position, fighting not only for European football but also to avoid slipping further down the table.

After a series of disappointing results, Tottenham has faced a string of injuries and poor form that has left them languishing in mid-table.

With nine losses in 18 league matches, the club is struggling to maintain any momentum.

Their hopes of a top-four finish, and with it a return to the Champions League, seem increasingly unlikely. But Postecoglou remains steadfast, insisting that his team can still turn things around.

Tottenham's woes are clear, with the club sitting in 12th place and 11 points behind the coveted top four.

Only nine points separate them from the relegation zone, and the prospect of European football next season grows slimmer by the week. A season that began with high hopes now risks descending into yet another disappointing campaign.

Ange Postecoglou remains optimistic despite Tottenham's struggles

However, Postecoglou has not let the team's struggles shake his confidence. In a recent interview with Football London, the Australian manager stressed that Spurs are not 'that far off.'

He pointed out that just a week ago, the team had secured a Carabao Cup quarter-final win and a resounding 5-0 victory over Southampton.

"We’re not that far off. A week ago I was sitting here after winning a Carabao Cup quarter-final and having beaten Southampton 5-0 so it just seems like at the moment we can’t get a lot of traction in anything,” Postecoglou said.

Postecoglou remains hopeful that reinforcements will arrive, whether through returning injured players or potential signings in the January transfer window.

"We need some reinforcements," he said. "Some will come when we get some injuries back but I still think if you look at some of the teams four or five points above us in the league and I don’t think that’s going to stretch by any great lengths over the next period."

Can Tottenham turn it around?

Despite the current challenges, Tottenham remains in several cup competitions, with both the Europa League and domestic cups offering potential routes to salvage their season.

However, much will depend on their ability to get key players fit again and make wise moves in the transfer market.

Postecoglou’s ability to balance Tottenham’s commitments across multiple fronts will be crucial.

If Spurs can strengthen their squad and recover from their injury crisis, the second half of the season could take a very different direction. But for now, the road ahead remains fraught with obstacles.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly setting their sights on one of South America’s brightest young talents, Vitor Roque.

The 19-year-old forward, who has been making waves in European football, has caught the attention of Spurs as they look to bolster their attacking options.

With comparisons to a legendary Brazilian striker already following him, Roque’s potential move to North London could mark the beginning of something truly special.

Currently on loan at a prominent La Liga side, Roque has been showcasing glimpses of his immense talent, but his future remains uncertain.

Tottenham set their sights on Vitor Roque

As financial challenges ripple through his parent club, Tottenham’s interest could align perfectly with an opportunity to snap up this rising star.

According to reports, Vitor Roque is owned by Barcelona but is spending the season on loan at Real Betis. The Spanish club holds an option to buy 80% of the player’s rights for €25 million, a decision they are yet to finalise.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham are monitoring the situation closely, eager to step in if Betis decides against exercising their option.

Barcelona’s financial constraints are a significant factor in this potential transfer. The Catalan giants are seeking to offload players to register new arrivals like Dani Olmo.

Roque’s future could hinge on which club offers the most attractive deal.

Tottenham, with their financial prowess, are well-positioned to make a competitive bid. The young Brazilian has reportedly expressed appreciation for the interest from major clubs, though he isn’t in a rush to make a decision.

Vitor Roque has already drawn comparisons to the legendary Ronaldo Nazario due to his playing style—a blend of explosive pace, technical skill, and an eye for goal.

Why Vitor Roque is worth watching

Despite being just 19, he has demonstrated flashes of brilliance during his stint with Betis, offering glimpses of his potential to become a top-tier player in Europe.

Barcelona invested heavily in Roque, paying a reported €61 million for him, including bonuses.

However, financial pressures mean they may settle for recouping a significant portion of their investment.

With Spurs in need of fresh attacking options and Roque’s future hanging in the balance, this could be a pivotal moment for both the player and the club.

Will Tottenham make their move, or will Roque remain in Spain? The coming months could decide the fate of one of football’s most exciting young prospects.
