Tottenham are heating up talks for potential Richarlison replacement - Hotspur HQ
Description

An attacking reshuffle is expected to arrive in N17, and Spurs have seemingly identified their replacement for Richarlison.

The Brazilian international hasn't yet sealed a move away from the club, nor is any sort of agreement close, but there's an expectation that Spurs will sell the former Everton star for the right price this summer.

The club acquired Richarlison before the start of Antonio Conte's first full season at the helm. It was a time of great excitement off the back of a thrilling conclusion to 2021/22, and the addition of a proven Premier League goalscorer to complement Harry Kane and Son Heung-min was regarded by many at the time as being the final piece to Conte's jigsaw.

However, Richarlison has been let down by his body in N17 and struggled to justify his hefty price tag. His three seasons at the club have been plagued by unavailability, although he did score 11 times in 28 Premier League games in 2023/24—numbers aided by an impressive purple patch at the turn of the new year.

Off the back of a season where Richarlison crucially contributed late on but barely notched 900 total minutes of playing time, Spurs are ready to cash in.

Spurs identify Arnaud Kalimuendo as potential Richarlison replacement

Sky Sports reported at the start of May that Everton were interested in re-signing the Goodison Park favourite this summer, and further reports suggest the Toffees are waiting to hear what the new Spurs boss thinks of the striker.

Frank may require pre-season to assess Richarlison, but Spurs have nonetheless got to work on signing a potential replacement.

L'Equipe report that the club are ramping up their pursuit of 23-year-old Rennes forward Arnaud Kalimuendo amid interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle. The France U21 international entered the summer off the back of his most prolific senior season to date, as he scored 17 times in Ligue 1 for Les Rouge et Noir.

The former PSG academy starlet has two years left on his contract with Rennes, and the French club could look to cash in this summer with his value peaking.

Spurs have already made an attacking splash this summer by confirming the permanent arrival of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, and Dominic Solanke is expected to remain the club's first-choice forward despite the change of manager.

However, they will need to bring in ample cover for Solanke if they opt to let Richarlison depart. Kalimuendo differs in profile to the Brazilian, but his recent body of work in France suggests he'd be a younger, perhaps more dynamic back-up to Solanke.

The 23-year-old is a willing channel runner capable of stretching defences with his vertical and lateral movement. He's a canny operator boasting a compact but powerful frame. Some have drawn comparisons to Yoane Wissa, but I'll have to watch far more 2:20 minute clips of X before I label that assessment woefully lazy.

The bargain Bryan Mbeumo alternative for Tottenham that nobody is talking about

The bargain Bryan Mbeumo alternative for Tottenham that nobody is talking about - Hotspur HQ
Description

There is no question that if it were up to Thomas Frank and Tottenham Hotspur right now, they'd have Bryan Mbeumo signed, sealed, and delivered to the Europa League champions instead of still mulling over an offer from Manchester United, who he apparently chose over Spurs before the North Londoners flipped the script by hiring his former Brentford manager.

Mbeumo was arguably the biggest breakout star of the entire 2024/25 Premier League season, scoring 20 goals and 7 assists for the Bees to officially make Saudi Pro League striker Ivan Toney a thing of the past for Brentford.

Now, Tottenham are hoping he can be the goal-scoring superstar on the wing to potentially replace left-sided icon Son Heung-min, and Spurs have already sealed the deal for a promising young winger by agreeing to sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich.

Tottenham don't have all their eggs in Mbeumo's basket in case he betrays them for Manchester United - or a club outside the Premier League entirely. Bournemouth's breakout right winger Antoine Semenyo is very much on Tottenham's list of alternatives, and he's widely seen as the betting favorite to be their next top target if Mbeumo were to choose against them.

A better option than Antoine Semenyo for the cost

But should he be? Because for a mere fraction of the price of Semenyo - about 70 million pounds - Tottenham could sign PSV's Johan Bakayoko. The underrated Belgian prospect has apparently fallen in PSV's asking price of the player, as Eindhovens Dagblad now reports that Bakayoko could be purchased for just 17 million pounds.

Maybe that's too good to be true, but even if Bakayoko goes for only a bit more than that, it's still a massive bargain. Even though he's not proven in the Premier League like Semenyo, you could argue that "proven" is still a bit of a stretch for Semenyo and that Bakayoko has more technical quality and natural ability.

Bakayoko was on Manchester City's radar as a top out-and-out winger signing, but with Jeremy Doku and Savinho feasting and now Rayan Cherki on his way on the right wing, the left-footed Bakayoko no longer seems to be a favored target for the perennial Premier League title favorites.

Tottenham would be wise to keep a close eye on Bakayoko and consider him a better alternative to Mbeumo than Semenyo when considering his cost and upside. Bakayoko is just 22 years old, and while he was less important for PSV this season, that had more to do with problems with the club itself.

Tottenham summer 2025 squad audit: Who stays and who goes? - Hotspur HQ
Description

So, once again, Tottenham are starting afresh.

Europa League glory wasn't enough to save Ange Postecoglou, who received his marching orders 16 days after he led the cursed north London club to their first major trophy in 17 years.

The Australian can jet off into the sunset with his Lilywhite legacy in tact. Yes, he was the manager who oversaw our 17th-place Premier League finish in 2024/25, but he'll only be remembered as the third manager in the club's history to deliver European silverware.

Now, we're onto Thomas Frank.

The Dane arrives with a lofty reputation from Brentford, and he inherits a youthful squad which should excite him. Spurs' personnel needs upgrading, but it's certainly not as poor as our domestic performance made it appear last season.

The mini summer transfer window has come and gone pre-Club World Cup, with the start of the proper window on the horizon. There will be a reshuffle in N17, but which Spurs players should stay, leave and depart on loan?

Here's our full squad audit for the 2025 summer.

Goalkeepers

Guglielmo Vicario: KEEP – Vicario missed a chunk of last season due to an ankle injury and didn't exactly build on an impressive debut season. He's so-so in possession but a wonderful shot-stopper. He'll start the season as Frank's number one.

Antonin Kinsky: KEEP – Watch this space with Kinsky. There's scope for him to seriously challenge Vicario next season. The young Czech goalkeeper is ever so cool in possession, and I think Frank will be a big fan.

Brandon Austin: KEEP – Austin should remain as the third-choice goalkeeper. He performed well when called upon last season.

Defenders

Pedro Porro: KEEP – Suffered from fatigue last season and played *so* much football under Postecoglou in a demanding role. Brilliant down the stretch and should like Frank's crossing emphasis.

Djed Spence: KEEP – Spence was the standout performer for an extended period at the start of the year, but wasn't influential in the latter stages of the Europa League run. Still, his Spurs career has been resurrected.

Radu Dragusin: SELL – He's probably thrilled to see the back of Ange. Dragusin is not a high-line guy, but he's not good enough in possession to succeed under Frank either. I'd sell, but his long-term injury means we might have to wait until January.

Luka Vuskovic: KEEP – The 18-year-old arrives with plenty of buzz, and I'd be integrating him right away in the cup competitions.

Kevin Danso: KEEP – An immediate fan favourite. Big Kev is a more than serviceable backup capable of filling in. A great buy.

Cristian Romero: KEEP – One of Frank's first tasks must be convincing Romero to buy in. Availability has been an issue, but he's among Europe's best. We cannoh replace him.

Ashley Phillips: LOAN – Phillips probably isn't ready yet for first-team integration, and another Championship loan seems likely.

Micky Van de Ven: KEEP – His hamstrings have breathed a sigh of relief.

Ben Davies: KEEP – The club have opted to extend Davies by another year. He'll still be here when he's 62.

Destiny Udogie: KEEP – Udogie's end to the season was hugely promising. It's been a tough 18 months for the Italian due to a couple of major injury setbacks, but he's fit and thriving again.

Midfielders

Yves Bissouma: SELL – Thanks for those three games in Europe, Yves, but you haven't yet shown that you can be relied upon for a sustained period.

Rodrigo Bentancur: KEEP – One who suffered from Ange's haphazard defensive principles in midfield, but he shone amid more control displays towards the end of the season. Makes the game look effortless, and I wouldn't sell both Bissouma and Bentancur.

Lucas Bergvall: KEEP – The present and future. He's here for the long haul.

Archie Gray: KEEP – Frank wanted Gray at Brentford last summer, and we should see Gray feature regularly in the middle of the park after spending the bulk of his first season at Spurs in defence.

Pape Matar Sarr: KEEP – Perhaps the most underrated member of the squad, and he may well evolve into Frank's number six.

Alfie Devine: LOAN – Similar to Phillips. Not ready yet. Another EFL loan.

James Maddison: KEEP – Mightily productive last season, even if it didn't feel like it. Makes us tick and will function as Spurs' primary playmaker under Frank.

Dejan Kulusevski: KEEP – A versatile operator who suffered down the stretch last season. He's likely to miss the start of 2025/26 after undergoing knee surgery, but he'll eventually blossom into a key cog under the new regime.

Forwards

Son Heung-min: SELL – The time is right.

Mathys Tel: KEEP – I'm thrilled that Spurs have retained Tel, especially given the fee. He could explode under Frank.

Manor Solomon: SELL – Frank's supposedly intrigued, but I'd be happy to see Solomon move on for a small fee. Handy player but I don't see him making the grade here.

Richarlison: SELL – Played an unsung role in our Europa League success and desperately wanted to see him thrive here. Hasn't quite worked out due to fitness issues, and we should see for the right price. Top bloke.

Dominic Solanke: KEEP – He might not be a 20+ goals-a-season guy, but he's really good at what he does: the nitty gritty stuff. Will be a key facilitator under Frank.

Dane Scarlett: LOAN – Scarlett showed flashes last season, but I expect the club will send him out on loan again. It'd likely be a wasted year if he remains in N17.

Alejo Veliz: SELL – Yeah, I don't know. Heard his old club wants him back. Probably won't lose much sleep if he returns to his homeland and scores a bucketload.

Wilson Odobert: KEEP – Get him back on the left, Thomas. Odobert's debut season was disrupted by a hamstring injury (shock!) but there were glimpses which suggested the Frenchman could blossom into a more-than-useful asset for the new manager. Has been excellent for France's U21s as of late.

Brennan Johnson: KEEP – Another squad member previously courted by Frank, Johnson was our leading goalscorer last season and will benefit from the freedom the new manager hands his attackers.

Bryan Gil: SELL – Can we please negotiate a permanent deal with a Spanish club?! He's pretty good over there.

Mikey Moore: LOAN – The academy starlet teased a major breakout last year and boasts talent in abundance. Let's see him playing week in, week out elsewhere—whether in England or overseas.

Ange Postecoglou might have already found a new job after Tottenham sacking - Hotspur HQ
Description

Ange Postecoglou's coaching journey has spanned three continents and returned relentless second-year success. After his heroic Spurs sacking, the Australian coach may be set for a big pay day in the Middle East.

Postecoglou enjoyed a tumultuous two-year spell in north London which culminated in the most glorious of triumphs. After mitigating his debut campaign in the wake of Harry Kane's sale with a respectable fifth-place finish, year two proved to be considerably more troublesome as the result of a seemingly never-ending stream of injuries.

Ange's all-or-nothing style undoubtedly contributed to the glut of fitness concerns and thus Spurs' woeful domestic underperformance, and it required a retraction of his idealism to triumph in the Europa League.

We'll never know how series three would've played out in N17, and perhaps that night in Bilbao meant Ange was deserving, but Tottenham have opted to move forward with an alternate thinker in Thomas Frank.

With his legacy in north London secure, Postecoglou will now look to move on himself. While there are few coaching vacancies in Europe, an opportunity may soon present itself in Saudi Arabia.

Ange Postecoglou targeted by Al Ahli after Spurs sacking

Many have wondered what the future holds for the Australian, who's embarked on a coaching journey like no other. Success has followed Ange throughout his career, with his impressive accumulation of silverware allowing his path to follow an upward trajectory.

But how does the footballing world view his two-year stint at Spurs? It was an unforgettable period laden with drama and division before we enjoyed that sweet cathartic release on May 21, but Ange's spell manifested the risks of his methodology at the highest level. There's no denying the boom-or-bust potential, and the elites will continue to steer clear.

There's a bit of Marcelo Bielsa about him, so you wonder whether Leeds United could take the plunge after inevitably sacking Daniel Farke in November. Perhaps Ange is best suited to a club that have lost its way and in need of emboldening—he's capable of instilling a clear on-pitch identity, and is a trooper in the media when it comes to protecting his players and the club itself. West Ham, maybe? Everton?

However, a potential Premier League return may come via the Gulf, because The Athletic have reported that Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli have contacted Postecoglou over their managerial position. Matthias Jaissle is currently in charge, but there are doubts about his future with his contract expiring next summer.

Talks with Ange are said to be 'moving quickly' so there's a serious chance this happens.

A drifting away from the spotlight would perhaps be ideal for Ange, who surely grew tired of the unrelenting media duties that modern-day Premier League managers are forced to endure—with every word uttered dissected, analysed and potentially contributing to the next hit piece (*cough* Jonathan Liew *cough*).

Intrigue may well arrive from alternative sources before the start of 2025/26, and Ange may fancy sticking around in Europe after all.

Whoever opts for his services won't be disappointed, but we'd recommend a seatbelt or 100,000. The ride is like no other.

Thomas Frank already made the most important move of first transfer window

Thomas Frank already made the most important move of first transfer window - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham have wasted little time in confirming the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich off the back of the Frenchman's six-month loan in north London.

Tel joined the club on a temporary basis at the end of the January transfer window with Spurs reportedly having the option to buy the 20-year-old outright for as much as €55m at the end of the season.

However, Spurs have been able to negotiate a much kinder price with the Bundesliga champions, with Tel reportedly joining the club in a €35m deal. The forward has signed a contract until 2031.

Mathys Tel could develop into Son Heung-min's successor

Tel offered glimpses of his sky-high potential during the second half of 2024/25 and we can only project that the best is yet to come of the French U21 international in N17. While it was Ange Postecoglou who helped bring him to the club in the winter, Tel has seemingly been left convinced by new manager Thomas Frank (and vice versa).

The incoming boss maximised the talents of several attackers during his lengthy Brentford tenure, and Tel is poised to benefit from the Dane's arrival. His roles under Ange were more rigid in terms of positioning, but Frank should allow the talented 20-year-old more freedom to roam from an inside forward position. At Brentford, Frank's forwards benefitted—most notably last season—from the creation of high-quality scoring opportunities due to their ability to facilitate artificial transition sequences, and Tel possesses the necessary ball-striking to morph into a reliable Premier League marksman.

This may well be the summer when a club icon departs in Son Heung-min, with the Korean superstar showing signs of decline over the past 18 months. However, in Tel, Spurs may well have snagged the sharpshooter's successor for a bargain price.

It's time to usher in a new dawn with Frank at the helm, and Tel will be one of the project's cornerstones should he merely come within reach of his ceiling. Bayern Munich were utterly convinced by his talent, signing him for €28.5m as a 17-year-old in 2022, but the move ultimately arrived too soon for Tel, who struggled for rhythm and minutes amid fierce competition out wide.

Spurs is undeniably a more suitable home, despite his failure to set the world alight during his first 20 appearances. The absence of patience within the modern-day supporter means there are plenty who aren't convinced by Tel, believing this deal to merely be another example of Levy's penny-pinching when the likes of Eberechi Eze and Bryan Mbeumo are out there to be signed for big fees.

Hold that view if you wish, but it's one I cannot subscribe to. Sure, we were limited to mere moments from Tel during his loan, but he remains one of Europe's premier U21 attacking talents. For €35m, the deal was a no-brainer for Spurs, and I'm so excited to see him shine under Frank.

Tottenham's top Bryan Mbeumo alternative is crystal clear - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been focusing intently on stealing away Bryan Mbeumo from Manchester United, as one of the hottest transfer prospects on the market in the Premier League has an opening to join Spurs after the appointment of his former manager at Brentford, Thomas Frank.

The Danish coach is the entire reason why Tottenham have some level of optimism that they can sign Mbeumo despite the fact that the 25-year-old with 27 Premier League goal contributions last season initially made it clear that Manchester United was his favored landing spot.

Although Tottenham do indeed have every chance at landing the uber-talented Mbeumo on their right wing as a key supplier of goals and overall attacking threat, they know they can't lock into him as their only transfer target at the position since Manchester United had such an early advantage over them.

In case Tottenham were to strike out on Mbeumo, Give Me Sport's Ben Jacobs said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast that Bournemouth star right winger Antoine Semenyo would then become the top choice for Tottenham.

Tottenham's backup plan won't actually be cheaper

Given Semenyo and Mbeumo have both been linked to Tottenham long before Ange Postecoglou was fired, this assertion that Semenyo is the top alternative to Mbeumo isn't surprising at all. These two young men were the biggest breakout stars in the Premier League at the right wing position, and while Mbeumo is better overall with significantly more end product, Semenyo's electric dribbling and success with Bournemouth last season have to be recognized.

Like Mbeumo, Semenyo won't come cheap, as he is also expected to cost any interested party somewhere around 70 million pounds. Bournemouth will surely have to accept less than that initial evaluation, but after getting 65 million pounds for striker Dominic Solanke out of Spurs last season, Tottenham can't expect much of a discount on Semenyo in 2025 either.

Last season Semenyo, who is the same age as Mbeumo at 25, scored 11 Premier League goals for Bournemouth with 5 assists, averaging 1.9 dribbles completed per game. Those are good numbers in the Premier League for a right winger, but they are almost half the production that Mbeumo provided to Brentford, and while Semenyo did win a significant amount of dribbles, it's hard to say that he's a more effective dribbler than Mbeumo despite being more explosive; Mbeumo's consistency and strength set him apart.

Semenyo should have a buyer beware tag, but he is indeed a legitimate alternative to Mbeumo for Tottenham, and it's difficult to find many better right wing options than Semenyo should Frank fail to secure his top choice on the market.

Mathys Tel ended up saving Tottenham a ton of money

Mathys Tel ended up saving Tottenham a ton of money - Hotspur HQ
Description

After more than a month of intense negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, 20-year-old left wing talent Mathys Tel will indeed be headed to the Premier League on a permanent basis as the two European powerhouses agreed to a 35 million euro deal.

The move ensures that Tottenham will hold onto one of the most promising talents in European football and someone whom Spurs can build an attack around. Tel clearly has more upside than his teammates, and with Son Heung-min increasingly linked to clubs abroad, there's a real chance the Frenchman could one day be the heir to the Tottenham captain on the left wing.

What makes the Tel signing even better for Tottenham is the price Tottenham are getting one of the most talented left wing prospects in Europe at a price significantly less than the initially agreed upon option to buy clause in his winter loan deal.

Mathys Tel was bought almost at half price

And better yet, Tottenham are getting Tel for even cheaper than what they could have signed him for in January if they made the move permanent up front. At that time, Bayern Munich were asking for 60 million euros, and there were even rumblings that Spurs had reached a verbal agreement for a transfer of that fee.

It turns out that the best thing for Spurs was to have that deal fall through, whether it was rejection from Tel because he wasn't ready to move at that time or Tottenham realizing they didn't want to spend that much on the player.

Based on his actions on and off the pitch, Tel is clearly Tottenham all the way and wants to be a star as a part of a long-term future at the historic English club. He just won the Europa League title with Tottenham, and that taste of European glory will leave Tel hungry for more success with Spurs.

In total, Tel, by not moving in January and wanting to wait things out, saved Spurs a grand total of 25 million euros, which is a significant amount of money that is worth a top prospect in its own right. That's one more favor Tel has done for Tottenham, and there should be a lot of optimism regarding what the uber-athletic 20-year-old can do with Spurs in a full season under Thomas Frank, who coaxed a combined 39 goals out of Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo in the 2024/25 season.

Thomas Frank will give unwanted Tottenham forward a lifeline - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur played a very exciting style of football under Ange Postecoglou, but they should be just as exciting with arguably more attacking efficacy after the hiring of Thomas Frank, who led Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa to a combined 39 Premier League goals last season after losing his previous best forward, Ivan Toney, to Saudi Arabia.

Frank is already pushing to bring Mbeumo with him to Tottenham, and Brentford teammate Wissa could join him, too. There's also Eberechi Eze an a host of other big-name attacking players in the Premier League who are expected to pique the interest of Frank this summer.

But Frank will also be expected to develop the players currently under Tottenham's books and maximize their productivity. After securing a potential bargain deal to keep Mathys Tel around at N17 permanently, Frank will have to take stock of the other players in the Tottenham attack, especially those on the bubble.

One of those players on the bubble is Manor Solomon, who played a key role in Leeds United's promotion from the EFL Championship last season and had succes at Shakhtar Donetsk before that. Although he's generally been expected to leave Tottenham this summer, it appears Frank isn't ready to cut him loose without taking a closer look himself.

According to new information from talkSPORT reporters Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs, Solomon is actually going to start the pre-season with Tottenham, because Frank wants to evaluate him and give him a fair shot at cracking the official 2025/26 season squad. This is Solomon's chance to make an impression on Frank and stay with Spurs for at least one more season, avoiding a permanent transfer to Leeds or elsewhere.

It's a huge chance for Solomon. While it's far from a guarantee and competition is stiff, Solomon could like his chances if Son decides to leave for Turkey and Saudi Arabia and Daniel Levy ends up signing nobody else, besides Tel, for the left wing position.

Solomon does his best work from the left wing, and he's a good athlete with goal-scoring upside. Ultimately, Tottenham should probably aim higher than Solomon, but if the 25-year-old ends up blowing the former Brentford manager away in practices and preseason fixtures in in the coming month, then it's going to be difficult to deny him a spot on the squad. Frank has worked wonders with the forwards at Brentford over the years, and maybe the new coach is what Solomon needs to have a breakthrough.

The 5 best possible Johnny Cardoso alternatives for Tottenham

What looks like a disaster is actually a positive for Tottenham - Hotspur HQ
Description

When the transfer window opens, Spurs react slowly and miss out on some top targets as a result.

But, last summer, Daniel Levy attempted to be proactive in securing a special release clause for talented Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso in exchange for the unwanted Spurs player Giovani Lo Celso.

The entire transfer was bizarre, and now that Spurs can activate the special release clause, Cardoso has no interest in joining, leaving Spurs holding an empty bag. However, the club should view this as a blessing in disguise, as there are far superior options available to them.

Adam Wharton

Spurs could add to their embarrassment of riches in the midfield by adding another young English talent.

Adam Wharton has caught the eye of top clubs in his 43 games at Crystal Palace with his playmaking abilities.

The 21-year-old checks many boxes for Spurs. He's young, Premier League-proven, and English, which will help the club meet the homegrown quota.

Last season, Wharton provided two assists in 20 games for Palace. Still, he created nearly two chances per 90 minutes and played three accurate long balls per 90 minutes, which could play perfectly into Thomas Frank's system.

Wharton could be the perfect number 6 for Spurs in a midfield trio. Imagine a midfield of Archie Gray, Wharton, and Lucas Bergvall. It could dominate under Frank for years.

Tyler Adams

Cardoso's fellow countryman, Tyler Adams, is a better option.

The 26-year-old has played 55 games in the Premier League between Leeds United and Bournemouth. This past season was his best year in the League.

In 28 matches, he provided three assists and demonstrated solid defensive play. He won 50 tackles and 139 duels on the season and averaged 1.5 interceptions per 90.

While buying a player from Bournemouth might not be the most exciting option, Adams has experience in the top flight and has grown as a player each season. He would be a perfect buy-low opportunity for Spurs.

Morgan Gibbs-White

Noticing a trend? Morgan Gibbs-White is more of an attacking option than the first two, but he has experience in the League.

He was an instrumental part of Nottingham Forest's surprise season, which saw them flirt with qualification for the Champions League.

Gibbs-White delivered eight goals and seven assists in 34 starts this season. He completed more than five progressive passes per 90 minutes and worked hard without the ball, finishing in the 90th percentile in interceptions at his position.

In addition to his solid form, he is also English and would count towards that all-important homegrown quota. It won't be easy for Spurs to pry him away from Forest, but he would be worth it as he is just hitting his stride.

Morten Hjulmand

Going outside of the Premier League, Morten Hjulmand is another excellent option for Spurs.

Last season for Sporting in Liga Portugal, he was one the best box-to-box midfielders in the League.

The 25-year-old Denmark national chipped in with two goals and delivered two assists. Additionally, he was adept in attack, boasting a pass accuracy of over 90 percent and the ability to win free kicks, drawing more than two fouls per 90 minutes.

The impressive numbers extend to the defensive side of the game as well. Hjulmand won over 60 percent of his duels and nearly 70 percent of his tackles and saw an incredible 6.48 recoveries per 90 minutes.

If Hjulmand is interested in joining his fellow countryman, Thomas Frank, Spurs should consider spending their money on him rather than Cardoso.

Lennon Miller

Last year, Tottenham spent big money on young talents like Gray, Bergvall, and, most recently, Mathys Tel. Lennon Miller could be next in line.

The Scottish national was incredible for Motherwell last season in the Scottish Premiership.

He was everywhere for his club last season, picking up eight assists and two goals. But more importantly, in 32 games, he was credited with creating 50 chances and playing 104 accurate long balls.

In possession, he was able to draw 70 fouls and was only dispossessed 26 times. And defensively, he covered a lot of ground, posting an impressive 203 recoveries, winning 182 duels, picking up 43 interceptions, and winning possession in the final third eight times.

If Spurs are looking to continue their transfer strategy from last season, Miller makes perfect sense. The teenager has shown immense promise in a lower league, to the extent that he made his first senior caps for the national team last week.

Tottenham has made a complete mess of their Lo Celso transfer from last summer, but not getting Cardoso and instead opting for one of these better options would help clean up the mess left behind.

Tottenham are now trying to sign both of Brentford's two best players

Tottenham are now trying to sign both of Brentford's two best players - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur were always expected to recruit heavily from Brentford after hiring manager Thomas Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou, as the Bees have several impressive players who can help Spurs in the short-term and even long-term.

Understandably, Tottenham's main focus initially has been on the main prize, Bryan Mbeumo, and there is reason to believe that Spurs can coax him away from Manchester United, originally tabbed as the right winger's destination of choice.

Mbeumo is undoubtedly Brentford's best player after scoring 20 goals with 7 assists in a tremendous breakout season, but there are other players worth signing on the Bees. Defensive midfielder Christian Norgaard and center back Nathan Collins have already been linked to Spurs, and now Brentford's second-best player behind Mbeumo is being named in rumors.

According to a report from The Guardian's Ed Aarons, Tottenham are interested in signing Yoane Wissa this summer, meaning Spurs want to take a combined 39 goals and 11 assists from Brentford if they manage to sign both players.

Tottenham could make a Richarlison upgrade

Tottenham are expected to sell perennially disappointing striker talent Richarlison, and they will need a replacement for him. Wissa is actually a little underwhelming compared the top options Spurs should be targeting at the 9, but since Tottenham seem to believe in Dominic Solanke as the starter after investing heavily in the England international last summer, Wissa would be a reasonable backup option.

Wissa didn't have as many goals as Mbeumo last season, but he was only one off, bagging 19 for the Bees as a good anchor point for the attack with 1.5 fouls drawn per game. Clubs as big as Arsenal and Manchester United would do crazy things for a striker who can score 19 goals and serve as a target man, so Tottenham would do well to snag two potential 15-goal strikers with above-average all-around qualities between Solanke and Wissa.

A legitimate player worth targeting and a strong caliber of striker to be the backup, Wissa makes sense if the price is right and if Frank believes in using Solanke as a starter for another year. Given Solanke's raw ability, if Frank can get 19 goals out of a virtually unknown 28-year-old forward at Brentford, then he should be able to get at least that amount with Solanke at Tottenham.

And when it comes to Wissa, a package deal of Wissa, Mbeumo, and Frank could be very dangerous. Just ask Liverpool how much it means to have attackers familiar with each other working together for years. Or ask that same question to Tottenham with Son Heung-min and Mr. Harry Kane.
