3 Tottenham players who will benefit the most from Thomas Frank appointment - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur supporters were stunned when the club announced that they were firing manager Ange Postecoglou on Friday night, as they had waited weeks to make a decision on the Europa League-winning coach, only to fire him anyway.

It was immediately obvious to Tottenham fans that Thomas Frank would be the pick to replace BIg Ange, and, indeed, the Brentford manager is close to sealing a transfer to N17, and while he is expected to try and bring Brentford stars like Bryan Mbeumo and Nathan Collins with him, the main task will be for Frank to get the most out of players currently at the club.

Back at Brentford, Frank did try to sign a couple of young gems for the Bees, but Tottenham simply outflexed them on the transfer market. Those two players are right winger Brennan Johnson, the goal-scoring hero of the Europa League Final, and 2024 center midfield signing Archie Gray from Leeds United.

Johnson and Gray are the most obvious candidates for improvement under Frank. They are young, raw talents, and while Gray has yet to show what he can do for Tottenham, the 19-year-old defensive midfielder didn't get much momentum in the same position in the starting lineup last season; Postecoglou often played him out of position at center back, where he was overwhelmed.

Brennan Johnson can break out under Thomas Frank

Next season under Frank, Gray will get more opportunities to shine as a midfielder. Frank is more judicious about how he uses his 6's and 8's, so Gray won't be as hung out to dry in transitions and will get more opportunities to show his footballing brain off and progressive passing in the Frank scheme.

Johnson, meanwhile, has even more upside. The Welshman was the team's leading goal-scorer in the Premier League last season, finding the back of the net 11 times. He's so good at being in the right place at the right time, and while the 24-year-old has often struggled to do all the other things a winger should, he did recently show Frank a more well-rounded display in Wales's match against Belgium. Johnson is 100 percent one to watch.

Finally, striker Dominic Solanke is a player who could see a marked improvement in his second year with Spurs, especially with Frank at the helm. Frank has turned forwards like Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, and Ivan Toney before them into literally the most productive players in the Premier League. A former top prospect for Chelsea and Liverpool before blooming late in the Premier League at Bournemouth, Solanke has even more technical talent and raw athletic ability than those guys.

Solanke didn't have the most productive season for Tottenham in 2024/25 despite the 65 million pound price tag, but he still scored nine Premier League goals and was as good as advertised all-around. Most importantly, Solanke stepped up for Spurs in the biggest games of the Europa League, and Frank has the tactical ideas to turn Solanke into a monster up top - an elite facilitator for the wingers who can also comfortably grab 15 goals of his own.

Son Heung-min subtly singing a different tune about his Tottenham future - Hotspur HQ
Description

Now that Tottenham Hotspur are close to solving the question of their manager situation by replacing Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank, the next big issue will be resolving the questions around the future of club legend Son Heung-min.

The South Korean superstar stumbled to the finish line in the 2024/25 season with a foot injury but did hoist the Europa League trophy at the end of the campaign after returning from the ailment. Son still tied Tottenham for the team lead in goal contributions even in a down year.

However, Son has just one year left on his contract, and while most Tottenham fans don't want to lose the captain with Champions League football ahead, it's possible Son sees the Europa League win and Postecoglou's firing as a natural exit point for himself. On top of that, Daniel Levy could see this as a final chance to cash-in on Sonny with clubs like Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia still circling.

Son Heung-min doesn't fully control his Tottenham future

Usually when he's asked questions about his future at Tottenham, Son gives unequivocal answers stating that he's 100 percent staying with Spurs and is only focused on helping the team. But in a recent press conference, via South Korean news outlet Yonhap News, Son sung a different tune and left the door open to the possibility of him finally exiting his beloved Spurs this summer:

"I still have one more year left on the contract. Rather than saying anything at this moment, I think we should all wait and see what happens. But no matter where I end up, I will always do the best I can. It will never change."

The quote itself seems less like a statement from Son saying that he's exploring other options, but rather it seems like a reflection of the reality of the uncertainty of the entire situation for the 32-year-old. Tottenham are undergoing significant changes, again, with a new manager and a potentially new ownership structure, but Son isn't in the prime of his career anymore.

It's an admission that the future isn't in Son's hands anymore, and that if Tottenham have a different vision of the future for the South Korean legend, then perhaps the Spurs captain won't fight it and will move to a new chapter in his career. If he's wanted, Son will obviously stay and fight for the badge. If not, he may part ways amicably and do his best at, say, Al-Hilal. Football is a sad business, as we saw with what happened to Big Ange.

Tottenham trying to dump 2 unwanted veterans on former manager - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham are set to welcome Thomas Frank as their Ange Postecoglou replacement, and considering the dearth of quality options available on the open market, Spurs are getting what looks to be the best possible candidate. Frank has successfully guided Brentford over the past couple of seasons, unearthing some Premier League gems that could potentially joining Spurs in the coming future.

Although they won the Europa League, Tottenham also finished a historically poor 17th in the Premier League, highlighting the need for Spurs to sign star power in the summer transfer window. But in order to make space in the squad - and in terms of wages - for top-class midfielders and game-changing attacking players, Tottenham are going to have to let underperforming players at these positions go.

According to a report from Turkiye Gazetesi, Tottenham have been offering two players high on their list of potential sales to former manager Jose Mourinho over at Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.

Tottenham are hoping for Jose Mourinho to do them a favor

The first name - and the one they've been pushing the hardest to sell to the Turkish club - is midfielder Yves Bissouma. Formerly of Brighton, Bissouma stepped up with some strong performances at the end of the 2024/25 season in the Europa League with stars like Lucas Bergvall injured, but he has no real long-term future at the club. And with an expiring contract, he is a priority for Tottenham to sell.

In addition to Bissouma, Tottenham have also been trying to sell striker/left winger Richarlison to Fenerbahce as a possible replacement for Bosnian legend Edin Dzeko. It's unclear if Fenerbahce are interested in Richarlison, and it's even less clear if the Brazilian international would want to go to the Turkish league after rejecting offers from Saudi Arabia last year.

Tottenham could save around 8.5 million pounds in wages next season by selling Bissouma and Richarlison, which is not an insignificant amount off their already miniscule - relative to their club size - wage bill. Only one player, Son Heung-min, makes more than nine million pounds per season at Tottenham.

With Spurs and new coach Thomas Frank eyeing ambitious transfer targets like Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo, and Eberechi Eze to bolster the attack, Tottenham are going to have to pinch every penny they can. If they can sell Bissouma and Richarlison for a combined 40 million pounds, the combination of those fees and the wages saved could yield 50 million pounds that would be invaluable to signing one of those three top-class Premier League starters.

Tottenham identify Premier League breakout star as summer transfer target - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to build their latest squad in their new manager’s image, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is a name to keep an eye on.

Spurs are no longer buying for Ange Postecoglou’s 4-3-3 but for the flexible Thomas Frank. The Dane is expected to be appointed as the Australian’s successor in north London as he looks to build on the momentum acquired from the conclusion of our trophy drought in Bilbao.

Whether or not the club have made the right call to part ways with the man who supplied us with the best night of our football-loving/hating lives can be debated long into the night, but even if you think Daniel Levy has got it wrong, you can still be excited by what’s to come.

Frank is an excellent coach, and he’s set to work with a man he knows very well in Johan Lange, Spurs’ technical director who once coached alongside Spurs’ new boss in Denmark.

A mammoth transfer window lies ahead with a return to the Champions League on the horizon. While the playing squad is far better than what they produced in the Premier League last season, there’s no denying the need to upgrade across several positions of the pitch.

Tottenham will have to spend record-breaking sum to sign Antoine Semenyo

It’s certainly a little harder to pinpoint specific targets for Frank given his capacity to shapeshift. Ange, on the contrary, rarely deviated from the 4-3-3 and his principles only meandered during the latter stages of our Europa League run. While such systematic familiarity meant it was easy to identify potential transfer targets, it also ensured that we were easily preparable for.

Frank’s more of an unknown, but he likes big bodies. There’s also not a fan who’d be comfortable entering 2025-26 with the same forward options at our disposal. Timo Werner has gone and Richarlison may follow suit, and an upgrade in quality is necessary despite the promise of youth, Solanke’s necessary functionality, and Johnson’s evolution as a goalscorer.

There have been links to Bryan Mbeumo, while Eberechi Eze is the maverick creator we all seemingly crave. However, Semenyo is the physical outlet Frank loves and his addition does make sense. Perhaps not at talkSPORT's reported £70m asking price, mind.

Frank’s teams are transition monsters, and Semenyo is devastating when given space to drive into. He’s adept off both flanks, proficient with both feet and ever so hard to slow down when those legs start churning.

His shot count is through the roof, and while there’s a lack of refinement, he boasts attributes that Frank will surely appreciate for a game model that has relied upon transitions in the Premier League. Semenyo was also one of the most active performers out of possession in the attacking third last season, and Frank is a coach who will seek to win the ball back high up the pitch.

For me, while there are drawbacks and the fee is *high*, Semenyo’s ball-striking off both feet renders him an inevitable force. Sometimes, the sport is as simple as smashing the ball hard towards the goal.

Tottenham fans finally get the news Daniel Levy should have delivered weeks ago - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s successor, three weeks removed from the club’s glorious night in Bilbao.

Daniel Levy’s mind had already been made up as the result of a historically bad Premier League campaign, but the chairman handed Ange the chance to guide his team to Europa League glory. Spurs’ subsequent triumph left Levy with the boldest of calls to make.

There was no immediate decision, with both the chairman and the manager opting for post-season getaways. Levy allowed the emotion of San Mames to dwindle somewhat before sticking the knife in.

Ange departed with a heavy heart last Friday, and the club moved with relative swiftness to appoint his replacement. There was one rogue report suggesting Marco Silva was the guy, but, in truth, it was always going to be Thomas Frank.

The Dane was bullish on taking on the job after nine years at Brentford, and Spurs, convinced by Frank’s capacity to lead the next painful rebuild that Mauricio Pochettino foreshadowed all those years ago, will send Brentford £10m to buy him out of his contract.

Thomas Frank is set to become new Tottenham manager

Fabrizio Romano has dished out his ‘Here we go!’, and confirmation of Frank’s appointment is expected at the end of the week.

The delay leaves Spurs with plenty of ground to make up in the transfer market, with rivals making progress on deals at the start of a mammoth summer window.

Johan Lange will have his collection of targets, and he would’ve had some idea that Frank was the intended next man up. It’s a manager he knows well, and Frank, who enjoyed such stable relationships at Brentford, must be keen to work with Lange again having coached together at Lyngby in the Danish Superliga. There’s scope for the pair to develop a strong shared vision which will aid Spurs on the recruitment front, although Fabio Paratici’s return could throw a spanner into the works.

Spurs ideally would’ve had a clear idea for the future the morning after our return to glory, but I’m willing to sacrifice a couple of weeks of indecisiveness for what we all experienced on May 21. The higher-ups had long decided Ange was not the guy for the long haul, and there’s reason to be mightily excited over Frank: a charismatic operator boasting the tactical flexibility to ensure the Lilywhites are not only watchable but a nightmare to play against.

However, like those who have fallen before him, Frank, too, must be aided. Spurs’ are in a far better position than they were two years ago in terms of playing personnel, but the addition of experienced/approaching prime stars in positions of need must be acquired to ensure Frank is set up for success from the outset.

All aboard Thomas the Frank engine!

Thomas Frank wants to bring big name to Tottenham as Bryan Mbeumo alternative

Thomas Frank wants to bring big name to Tottenham as Bryan Mbeumo alternative - Hotspur HQ
Description

Although Tottenham won the Europa League last season under Ange Postecoglou's guidance, Spurs also finished a measly 17th in the Premier League, setting a new franchise worst in the process. In order to get back out of this hole in league play, Tottenham are going to need more than just new manager Thomas Frank's tactical expertise.

Daniel Levy has to invest in the squad and sign the kinds of players capable of challenging starters at clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City next season. One of those potential targets is Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, who was the biggest breakout star in the Premier League last season with 20 goals and 7 assists under Frank's coaching.

However, even Frank isn't expected to be able to do enough to move the meter and push an Mbeumo move to Tottenham. There need to be alternatives to Mbeumo who have enough quality to be the difference-makers in the attack that Tottenham desperately need in 2025/26.

According to a report from Give Me Sport's Danny Rust and Dean Jones, Frank has been pushing Levy to consider Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze as a transfer alternative to Mbeumo if Levy isn't able - or willing - to bring the 25-year-old right winger to N17.

Thomas Frank isn't lacking ambition

Mbeumo will cost hefty wages and a hefty transfer fee from Brentford, and Manchester United are in a strong negotiating position. Eze won't be cheap either due to a 68 million pound release clause, and as Spurs found out last season when they tried to sign center back Marc Guehi, Palace don't like to sell easily.

Plus, with Palace headed for European competition themselves after taking down Manchester City in the FA Cup Final, they have one less reason to want to sell Eze. The 26-year-old has been a prime Tottenham transfer target for weeks and will likely be one of the biggest names on their ledger this summer, but it's also true that Spurs have bigger needs on the wings and at striker since James Maddison is already one of the best No. 10's in the Premier League.

Last season without Michael Olise by his side, Eze's numbers suffered a bit, but he was still one of the top attacking players in the English top flight with 8 goals, 8 assists, and 3.5 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn per game for the Eagles.

For Tottenham fans, the bigger story here is that Frank is pushing for top-class, proven Premier League players entering their prime like Mbeumo and Eze - and he's not just looking at his own attacking stars from Brentford. Spurs supporters will appreciate that ambition from their next coach and hope Levy heeds accordingly.

Tottenham fans get more devastating Son Heung

Tottenham fans get more devastating Son Heung-min transfer news - Hotspur HQ
Description

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be headed for the next stage in their rebuild, because after finishing 17th in the Premier League, chairman Daniel Levy made the decision to fire manager Ange Postecoglou despite the fact that the Australian led Spurs to their first Europa League title in 41 years.

Postecoglou's exit from N17 was sad enough, but Spurs supporters have to prepare themselves for players to exit the club in order for new faces to fill out the next phase of the sporting project under expected new hire Thomas Frank of Brentford fame.

Some of those changes won't be unwelcome by any means, as players like Yves Bissouma and Richarlison haven't made good on their price tags or expected contributions. But the move Tottenham fans fear the most is the loss of captain Son Heung-min, who entrenched himself as the biggest modern Spurs legend with this Europa League title triumph.

Son Heung-min has one major suitor already

Son's departure to Saudi Arabia didn't happen last year, but 2025 could be the year the South Korean legend moves on from the highest level of European football. According to a report from Football.London's Alasdair Gold, Son is more open to leaving Tottenham this year than he has in any previous year before, and there are now serious questions internally about his future in North London.

After posting one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024/25 and seeing the second half of his campaign blighted by injury, Son will be 33 when the 2025/26 season opens up. And if Tottenham sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich, as is expected, there will be a real debate as to whether or not Tel is already the superior option on the left wing after watching the two of them play at the end of the season.

Furthermore, Postecoglou showed a little less trust in Son as a starter towards the end of the season. Son could see Postecoglou's firing and his own Europa League glory as a sign that this is the best time to leave Tottenham on a high and help both Spurs and himself cash in on one final paycheck with a move to, say, Al-Hilal, who are highly interested in the ex-Bundesliga star after Saudi decided to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

Tottenham fans have to be ready to wave an even more tearful farewell to Son than the one they recently gave to Postecoglou. Son has been there for Tottenham through all the highs and lows over the past decade, and while all is not said and done, it feels more and more like this could be the end.

Key detail in Thomas Frank deal will please Tottenham fans - Hotspur HQ
Description

From the moment Tottenham Hotspur officially decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou as their manager, it was clear that Brentford coach Thomas Frank would be the top target that Daniel Levy and Co. would be targeting. Even before the Spurs manager rumors died down for a bit, Frank was reportedly the club's top target, and, now, Frank and Tottenham are said to be close to an agreement.

While most Tottenham fans are focused on the players Frank could bring in to the club, including Brentford's biggest star in right winger Bryan Mbeumo, plenty of other fans are thinking more big-picture about Frank's philosophy and how he can help the squad planning in North London.

Frank and Brentford have become famous around footballing circles for their "Moneyball" approach, which has earned widespread acclaim and admiration. He has unearthed some real gems in the Premier League, such as Mbeumo, and Spurs supporters are hoping the club will allow him to do the same at N17 and have a big say in the club's overall process.

Apparently that will indeed be the case. According to a report from TBR Football's Graeme Bailey and Jamie Brown, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has agreed to allow Frank to have a key say in the club's recruitment strategy and process.

Thomas Frank is Daniel Levy's guy

While Levy won't give Frank the final say on all signings, the incoming manager has given assurances that his word will carry significant weight. Reportedly, Frank made it clear to Tottenham that he wanted to have certain "guarantees" from the club about how things would be run with him as manager.

It's smart on all counts to have Frank heavily involved. Frank has surely seen the way the managers before him have been treated by Tottenham and their inability to bring in the players they want or be backed appropriately, and he doesn't want to fall victim to that.

At the same time, Spurs would undoubtedly benefit from Frank's input, insight on players, and overall strategy. Levy likes to keep within a certain budget, and Frank is used to doing more with less at Brentford, who outperformed Tottenham in the Premire League during the 2024/25 season.

As TBR Football report, Levy is sold on Frank as his guy, and, therefore, if he is so sold on Frank, he should have no issues with letting his pick as manager have a key role inside the walls of the club above simply being the manager on the pitch.

Tottenham fans get disappointing Bryan Mbeumo transfer news

Tottenham fans get disappointing Bryan Mbeumo transfer news - Hotspur HQ
Description

Although Tottenham fans have been severely bummed out these past few days after getting their hopes up that Europa League-winning manager Ange Postecoglou would stay at the club after his historic achievement, only to watch him get canned, there is optimism around expected new hire Thomas Frank.

A large part of that optimism has to do with the kinds of players Tottenham fans are hoping Frank can bring with him from Brentford. The main gem they are hoping for is 25-year-old right winger Bryan Mbeumo, but striker Yoane Wissa and center back Nathan Collins are two other key players from the 2024/25 Bees squad that could potentially help Spurs in 2025/26.

Mbeumo has been on Tottenham's transfer radar, but the 20-goal, 7-assist winger has chosen Europa League losers Manchester United over Spurs. However, with Frank set to come in as Postecoglou's replacement, there's been hope from Tottenham fans that he can change Mbeumo's mind.

For that to happen, though, Daniel Levy and Tottenham will have to sanction spending as much on wages and a transfer fee to Brentford as what Manchester United are willing to pay, and that should leave even the most hopeful of Tottenham fans a bit pessimistic.

Tottenham's biggest dream target isn't realistic at this point

Now, per a report from Mike Keegan and Matt Barlow of the Daily Mail, despite the recent reports and optimism from Spurs supporters, it's actually "highly unlikely" that Tottenham enter the transfer battle from Mbeumo at this stage and attempt to hijack an expected transfer from Brentford to Manchester United.

It's just one report and clearly not the end-all, be-all with regards to the Mbeumo transfer rumors, but it is a disappointing blow and one that seems like the most realistic outcome, looking at the financial details of Mbeumo's potential move to Man United and the fact that no Spurs player makes 10 million pounds in wages.

Mbeumo is likely headed to Manchester United, and Tottenham are either going to have to look hard at alternative wing options in the Premier League like Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo or stick to a platoon of Dejan Kulusevski and Europa League Final hero Brennan Johnson, who scored a team-high 11 goals in the Premier League last season, as their main options on the right wing.

It's not over with regards to Mbeumo, but it was always a bit hopeful and more than a tad bit unrealistic to expect Frank to be a great equalizer who convinces Tottenham to spend and Mbeumo to scrap his apparent desired move to Old Trafford.

Latest Cristiano Ronaldo news increases Son Heung

Latest Cristiano Ronaldo news increases Son Heung-min's chances of leaving Spurs - Hotspur HQ
Description

After Tottenham Hotspur decided to part ways with manager Ange Postecoglou on Friday, there's been a lot of speculation as to which players could follow the beloved coach out the door. While center back Cristian Romero has been highlighted as the most likely to leave, there are real doubts about Son Heung-min's future in North London.

The club legend will be on an expiring contract, and while Spurs fans largely don't want to see the captain leave any time soon, Daniel Levy may have other ideas if he gets a rich offer from Saudi Arabia. Shortly after Postecoglou's firing, rumors of Son's potentially departure began to swirl, and ambitious Saudi giants Al-Hilal, keen on making an impression at the Club World Cup, have been concretely linked to the South Korean superstar.

Al-Hilal have been linked to a large number of great forwards in European football this summer, and they've already made arguably the biggest splash of the summer transfer window by hiring Champions League finalist Simone Inzaghi to manage them.

Their main target was Cristiano Ronaldo, who was rumored to be under consideration to switch Saudi giants from Al-Nassr to Al-Hilal by order of the government in order to increase the league's popularity and chances of making a statement at the Club World Cup. Al-Hilal and Real Madrid, after all, are in the same group.

Cristiano Ronaldo isn't leaving Al-Nassr

However, in the aftermath of Ronaldo's Nations League triumph with Portugal, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Cristiano has publicly confirmed he is staying with Al-Nassr. CR7 will reportedly be signing a new contract with his club this summer.

That means Ronaldo is off the table for Al-Hilal, and with players like Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres rejecting high salary offers from them, their attention could increasingly turn to the 32-year-old Son. Younger players like Osimhen and Gyokeres have no interest in Al-Hilal, so the Saudi powerhouse must keep going for veterans.

Since Cristiano will stay with Al-Nassr, their best hope at getting a big-name attacker who can move the needle and still play effective football at the top level may be acquiring Son Heung-min from Tottenham. Spurs fans worried about losing their biggest club legend will have to fret about this Cristiano news, since it means Al-Hilal could have more desperation and more funds to throw at Spurs and Son in order to coax a transfer.

Of course, not every Tottenham fan shares the same opinion, and there will be some who believe this is a natural time for Son to leave Spurs on a high and give the club back some valuable transfer capital that can be utilized to sign an up-and-coming Premier League winger like Bryan Mbeumo or Antoine Semenyo.
