Tottenham Hotspur beat Auckland FC 2-0 in pre-season friendly
Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Auckland FC 2-0 in an entertaining pre-season friendly match at Eden Park in Auckland today.
Spurs, on a southern tour that includes two games in Australia, held a 1-0 lead at halftime, and doubled their tally in the second.
Spurs dictated early and their first goal to Dane Scarlett was due reward. It resulted from a terrific cross from Archie Gray to Manor Solomon who fired a shot which Auckland goalie Michael Woud stopped but couldn't hold and Scarlett pounced.
Auckland had their chances, and a Logan Rogerson pass found Sam Cosgrove late in the half, but goalie Brandon Austin was able to hold out his shot.
Both teams made numerous changes in the second half, with Spurs introducing some of their best talent..
One of them, Brazilian forward Richarlison, scored midway through the spell after a brilliant run from Mathys Tel set him up.
The match attracted a crowd of around 40,000 and was a boost for Spurs fans after they just survived Premier League relegation last season.
A-League victors Auckland were outclassed on a wet day, but will surely benefit from a game against Premier League opposition.
