TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Inter Miami CF have signed left back Sergio Reguilón, the club announced Monday. He is under contract through December 2027 with an option until December 2028.

The 28-year-old Spanish international was a free agent. He most recently played for English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Reguilón helps replace iconic left back Jordi Alba, who retired after Inter Miami won MLS Cup 2025 presented by Audi.

“It’s a very ambitious project, a winning club that is doing things the right way, and that’s what attracted me: coming here to keep winning and competing,” said Reguilón.

“My objective is to keep winning, go after the trophies we’re missing, and win everything here.”

Since developing in Real Madrid's academy, Reguilón has played more than 260 professional matches. He's also competed for Sevilla and Atlético Madrid in his native Spain, as well as Tottenham, Manchester United and Brentford in the EPL.

The defender won the 2019-20 Europa League with Sevilla and the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid.

"It's amazing to be together again," Lloris told reporters Friday. "It's a new chapter with a different jersey, but with the same ambitions, same motivation.

"We all know Sonny, how humble he is, how nice he is. But at the end of the day, we cannot forget that he's a big competitor. He was the captain of Spurs for the last two years. He's the captain of his national team. He has a World Cup in one year. There's a lot of things ahead of him and he's here with plenty of motivation. We are looking forward to starting this new chapter with Sonny."

"He spent 10 years at Spurs; he did everything that he could," said Lloris. "He won the Europa League last season. He achieved so much in the Premier League in terms of stats, in terms of image. He's well-respected all around the world.

"And I understand when you arrive at one stage in your career, you need a new target, a new objective. Seeing him coming to MLS, it's great for the league, great for the city, great for the club, also great for him because he's the kind of example where there's plenty of things to learn from him. The way he trains, the way he prepares himself, the way he competes – I expect him to have a really big impact in the club."

"It's like we never left each other," said Lloris. "It's been one year and a half that we haven't seen each other, but he's a sunshine. He's so positive.

"… Honestly, I'm really excited to start this new chapter with him. We spent almost eight years together. It's a lot, sharing so many days, so many games, so many training sessions. It's really interesting to see this relation again in a different environment. But I guarantee you that there's still this motivation, this ambition in his eyes. It's a very great addition to the team."

The 33-year-old forward, who captains the South Korean national team, is under contract through 2027 with an option for 2028 and an additional option through June 2029. He will occupy Designated Player and international roster spots.

Son arrives for reportedly upwards of $26.5 million, making him the most expensive incoming transfer in MLS history.

Global star

Son spent the last decade at Tottenham after starring in the German Bundesliga for Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen, cementing club legend status with 173 goals in 454 matches. Both marks are top-10 in Spurs history.

Last season, Son captained Tottenham as they won the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League title over Manchester United. While at the London-based club, he also helped them reach the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League final.

Additionally, Son won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2021-22 and the FIFA Puskás Award in 2020. He was named to the 2020-21 PFA Team of the Year.

While representing Tottenham, Son was teammates with LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Cultural icon

Internationally, Son has tallied 51 goals in 134 appearances with South Korea. Both marks are top-three in program history.

Son has featured at the last three FIFA World Cups, highlighted by a Round of 16 appearance at Qatar 2022. He recently helped South Korea qualify for the North America 2026 edition.
