Exclusive: Tudor says Spurs must 'recognise' their situation and 'be very critical' - TNT Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur's players need to be "very critical" of themselves, but first must "be aware of the situation" they find themselves in, head coach Igor Tudor said. The Spurs boss included himself as part of the group that he feels needs to "give something more", as an unlikely battle against relegation from the Premier League is set to unfold over the concluding months of the 2025/26 campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Igor Tudor said his side must "be aware of the situation we are in" and take a "very critical" view of why they are facing potential relegation from the Premier League.

Spurs' defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday meant they remained in 16th, just a single point above West Ham United, who currently occupy 18th place but have enjoyed positive results in recent weeks.

Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg against Atletico Madrid, Tudor said he has been encouraged by his players' response to the latest setback.

"[We] need to give something more," Tudor said. "It was not enough for sure, [we need] to be aware of the situation we are in, and what is right to do.

"Each of us needs to give something more, but first recognise that it wasn't enough and be very critical.

"Each of us stand in the mirror and point the right things to do, 'I really need to give something extra'.

"Not thinking 'maybe I’m doing okay'... the wrong way of thinking. So the guys, I saw them in the right mood before this game."

Intriguingly, Spurs have been one of the strongest sides in the Champions League this season. They finished fourth in the 36-team league phase, ensuring immediate passage to the final 16, the first leg of which is taking place at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday - live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Based upon league position alone, Spurs' domestic struggles compared to continental success is a curious case, but Tudor said the physicality of the Premier League sets English football apart.

"Premier League we know the physicality in those games," he said. "How hard it is playing in the Premier League, duels, all stuff. Champions League, a little bit different, but there’s also quality in all teams so we need to be good tomorrow."

Tudor said the last-16 tie is a "big challenge" for Spurs, but expressed his delight at having a stronger squad to pick from, with Richarlison fit to start following his hamstring injury, Djed Spence set to return, and Cristian Romero free to return following his four-match suspension.

"We have some players who are important coming back, we can be complete in all positions for the first time from when I came," Tudor said. "We have defenders, full-backs, midfielders, strikers all positions and the guys on the bench so let’s see."

Sandwiched between their two legs against Atletico is a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

Porro: Tudor 'needs time'

While it has been three matches in charge and three defeats for Tudor since he was appointed on a deal until the end of the season, Spurs defender Pedro Porro insists the players are behind the manager, and that he needs time in order to reap the desired rewards.

"It’s difficult," Porro told TNT Sports. "It’s a different situation. We are 100% with him, we believe in him.

"But sometimes in your job you need time. This is the third or fourth week, but at the moment we believe we’ll change the situation with him, everything, the team-mates, together."

Porro recognised Spurs are in a "bad moment in the Premier League", but said the Champions League offers an "opportunity" similar to their UEFA Europa League triumph last season.

The full-back urged his team-mates to "push everything", whether it be in "training, the gym, or the swimming pool".

Porro said: "I believe to change the situation, [it] is important when you do the right things in the bad moment. It’s good for us. I believe we can change the situation."

He added: "The most important thing for the team now is to take everything outside of your head.

"Focus on everything every day. For my team-mates and me myself, I’m working every day at the training ground, the games, because I believe, we believe we can change our situation."

Having been sidelined for five matches between January and February, Porro said he can sympathise with the powerlessness of fans who are unable to control the outcomes on the pitch.

"It’s a hard moment for them [supporters]," he said. "When you see your team lose every week it’s a hard moment.

"But I say this because in the last four weeks I was the supporter. Because I didn’t play, as fans it’s the same. I understand the situation for them.

"They know it’s important for us. When I played many good games the fans' support and away support is very good. I say thank you to them because it’s good for us and now the last games of the season, we need everything, we need them, the support. We need everyone in the dressing room now."

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to turn their season around as they take on Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game will be the first meeting between the two clubs in more than 60 years, with their last game coming in the final of the 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup. On that occasion, Spurs won 5-1 to become the first English club to win a UEFA competition.

Tottenham Hotspur consider Igor Tudor sacking, Andre Onana set for Manchester United return after Trabzonspor decision - Paper Round

TNT Sports

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a stunning move to find a replacement for interim boss Igor Tudor just weeks after he joined the club. Elsewhere, Manchester United face the prospect of goalkeeper Andre Onana returning, while Barcelona have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich target Luka Vuskovic. Meanwhile, there is an update on Jesse Lingard's future after he signed for a new club.

Spurs consider sacking Tudor

Spurs are also in the news as they consider a replacement for Igor Tudor, with speculation that the Croatian could soon face the axe just weeks after his arrival as interim head coach.

Roberto De Zerbi could be an option, as are Edin Terzic, Robbie Keane and former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Telegraph explains: "If Tottenham do survive, then De Zerbi, who left Marseille by mutual consent in February, could be a long-term option.

"He has been of interest to Manchester United and is understood to be keen on the Old Trafford job, and already figures prominently on their shortlist as they also decide on who will be their next permanent head coach.

"De Zerbi has been of interest to Spurs in the past while there have also been discussions around bringing back Mauricio Pochettino, who would only be available after the United States’ involvement at the World Cup comes to an end, or former Spurs striker Robbie Keane, who is the head coach of Hungarian club Ferencvaros. The Irishman wants to eventually manage in the Premier League.

"Another option has been Edin Terzic, who led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final, but it appears he may move elsewhere this summer and has had several approaches."

Trabzonspor won’t pay up for Onana

Manchester United may find it difficult to shift Andre Onana in the summer as he thinks he will be given the chance to fight Senne Lammens for a starting spot.

Further complicating matters, according to the Mirror, is that Trabzonspor will not pay the roughly £40 million figure United paid Internazionale for the Cameroonian stopper.

The paper states: "Manchester United have been informed by Trabzonspor that they won't pay between £40 million and £43m for Andre Onana this summer. Onana arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan in July 2023 for £43.8m with a potential £3.4m in add-ons based on performance and achievements.

"Whilst Onana has featured 21 times for the Super Lig side so far this season, they have no plans to meet United's asking price of £40m to £43m this summer.

"It was recently suggested that Onana is determined to fight for his place as United's No. 1 next season and believes he will be given the opportunity to do so."

Barca target Vuskovic

Both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vuskovic.

The 19-year-old Croatian central defender is impressing for Bundesliga side Hamburger SV since joining on loan earlier this season.

The Sun writes: "Barcelona have become the latest European giant interested in the services of a Spurs wonderkid.

"The Catalan outfit have joined Bayern Munich in the hunt for the North Londoners’ teenage star Luka Vuskovic.

"The Croatian defender is yet to make a senior appearance for the club since joining from Hajduk Split last summer for a fee of around £12 million.

"But he was loaned out to Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV a month later, where he has impressed this season.

"Vuskovic, who turned 19 in February, has already attracted the attention of league-leaders Bayern Munich."

Lingard may extend Corinthians stay

Jesse Lingard’s deal with Brazilian side Corinthians could be extended until the end of the season, according to The Athletic.

The 33-year-old left FC Seoul last year and had been on the lookout for a new side.

The website reports: "Brazilian club Corinthians have completed the signing of former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

"The 33-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the 2026 season, with the option of a further year if certain thresholds are met. Brazil’s Serie A runs from January to December.

"Lingard has been a free agent since leaving South Korean club FC Seoul at the end of last year.

"Formerly of West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, Lingard spent 21 months in the K League, scoring 18 goals and providing ten assists in 66 games for FC Seoul side while also regularly wearing the captain’s armband."

Juventus join Inter in race for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, PSG star Vitinha quells Real Madrid interest - Euro Transfer News

In Friday's Euro Transfer News, Juventus reportedly made initial contact with Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, joining Inter in the race for the 29-year-old, who is eager to leave struggling Spurs. Barcelona and Real Madrid have shown interest in Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown, as have Liverpool. While Paris Saint-Germain's Vitinha has quietened interest from Real Madrid.

Juventus want to beat Inter to Vicario

Juventus are hoping to overtake Inter in the race for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who is said to be desperate to return to Italy this summer.

Spurs are in danger of being relegated from the Premier League despite tasting UEFA Europa League success last year, and the Italian goalkeeper is hopeful of saying goodbye to England this summer.

Inter have been the main party interested in the 29-year-old, and have reportedly already met with his agent.

But Turin newspaper Tuttosport reports that initial contact has been made between Juventus and Vicario's representatives.

Frankfurt full-back on shortlist of Spanish giants

Eintracht Frankfurt full-back Nathaniel Brown is on the shortlist of several of Europe's elite clubs for this summer, reports Florian Pettenburg.

The 22-year-old, who has been capped twice by Germany, is allowed to leave after this season but Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche is demanding at least €60 million.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United have their eyes on Brown, with the former travelling to watch him play in a 2-0 win over SC Freiburg last weekend.

La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keeping Brown on their shortlist.

Barca eye Spurs loanee

Barcelona want to add Spurs defender Luka Vuskovic, who is on loan at Hamburg, to their ranks, according to Sky Germany.

The 19-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga this season after joining on loan from Spurs and HSV want to extend his loan but are limited in their options with several top clubs interested in Vuskovic.

Vuskovic only joined Spurs in 2025 on a deal running until 2030, but with the Premier League side suffering a dismal season, they may have to consider selling the Croatian.

Vitinha quells reported Madrid interest

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha said he would be "foolish" to leave Paris amidst links to Real Madrid.

The Portugal star has been the target of reported interest from the Spanish giants but has quelled any chances of him leaving Ligue 1, affirming his commitment to the team and love for the fans.

"It would be foolish to leave. I don’t think it’s the best thing for me right now. I feel great here in Paris," said the Portuguese international, who has 35 caps, in an interview with Canal 11.

"I feel loved by the fans, I feel I’ve won their affection, we have a fantastic team."

What are Tottenham Hotspur's chances of relegation? Likelihood of drop doubles after Crystal Palace implosion

What are Spurs' chances of relegation? Likelihood of drop doubles after Palace implosion - TNT Sports
Description

Are Tottenham Hotspur edging their way towards the Championship? Igor Tudor's side suffered a chastening 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, and they sit just a single point above West Ham and Nottingham Forest, clinging onto Premier League survival. According to Opta, their chances of being relegated double after the Palace loss, and Spurs have nine games left to avoid the drop.

The threat of relegation has become very real for Tottenham Hotspur in the latter half of the season, and a 3-1 implosion at home to Crystal Palace dramatically shortened their odds of facing the drop.

Coming off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Fulham and a 4-1 humbling at the hands of Arsenal, Spurs were only a point above Nottingham Forest in 17th.

But three Palace goals in the space of 12 minutes completely undid Spurs, who played more than half the match with 10 men after Micky van de Ven was sent off.

Igor Tudor's side have now gone 11 league games without a win, and after 29 games they have 29 points in total, meaning a dismal points per game ratio (PPG) of 1.

In the aftermath of defeat to Palace, Opta have now determined that Spurs' probability of relegation sits at 16.1%.

Spurs next face Liverpool in the league at Anfield, sandwiched between two intense Champions League ties with Atletico Madrid.

Tudor was hired based on a track record of steering teams away from calamity and enacting short-term gains, but the logic behind his interim appointment has yet to come to fruition.

He managed to instantly improve Udinese, Lazio and Juventus in Serie A, but the Premier League is a different beast, and Spurs' players look completely bereft of confidence - as well as top-flight ability.

Before taking on Palace, Spurs were given an 8% chance of being relegated by Opta. Following that defeat, the figure doubled to 16.1%.

Spurs finished in 17th last season with 38 points. But at the same stage last year, after 29 games played, they had 34 points and the threat of relegation never really materialised.

This was, in large part, due to the poor form of Leicester City and Ipswich Town in 18th and 19th.

However, Forest and West Ham have both picked up points in their last five games this season as Spurs officially reached their worst point totals after 29 games of a Premier League season.

It is the first time they have had fewer than 30 points after 29 games played.

Their goals scored tally has also plummeted from last season. At this stage, the side under Ange Postecoglou had 55 goals in the league, compared to 39 this campaign.

They have only managed to concede three more than last year, but their poor goal scoring means a vastly inferior goal difference.

What are Tottenham's remaining fixtures?

Spurs' woes are worsened by some tough matches in their remaining nine games, including trips to Anfield and Stamford Bridge.

There are pivotal 'six-point' clashes against fellow bottom-six teams Wolves, Forest, and Leeds.

Four of their remaining nine games are at home, where their record this season is much worse.

They have won just twice there all season for a PPG of 0.66, and it has been overwhelmingly disappointing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Somehow they have produced better away from home, winning five matches and have a PPG of 1.35, with an even goal difference of 21 goals scored and conceded.

Playing crunch matches at home would usually be a boost, but in Spurs' case, the opposite seems to be true, and more matches away should be considered positive.

But who do they play, and when are the key matches against fellow relegation candidates?

Spurs' remaining fixtures

Liverpool (A), March 15

Nottingham Forest (H), March 22

Sunderland (A), April 12

Brighton (H), April 18

Wolves (A), April 25

Aston Villa (A) May 2

Leeds United (H), May 9

Chelsea (A), May 17

Everton (H), May 24

In those same fixtures last season, Spurs only came out on top in two games - Everton at home and Aston Villa at home.

Let us have a look at how their results from last season for those remaining fixtures fared, with Leeds and Sunderland excluded.

Visiting Liverpool, Villa and Chelsea will make this nine-game run immensely dangerous for Tudor's side.

The data conclusively points towards the fact that Spurs are embroiled in a relegation battle and if they continue to worsen, we may be seeing one of the league's biggest teams drop into the Championship.

The stats remain in favour of Wolves, Burnley, and West Ham dropping down, but whether Spurs can survive the next nine clashes remains to be seen.
