Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to sign Iliman Ndiaye, who is also attracting interest from Manchester City.

Tottenham have not messed around in this summer’s transfer window, having spent over £300m on signings since coming close to suffering relegation from the Premier League last season.

At the start of this window, the north London outfit focused on improving their defence and midfield by splashing out on Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes.

Tottenham have also recruited Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka, while they have recently turned their attention to strengthening their attack.

In recent days, Roberto De Zerbi’s side have landed former Man City pair Savinho and Omar Marmoush, but they may not be finished there.

Tottenham could yet sign one more forward, and a new report from Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna claims they are ‘interested’ in signing Everton star Ndiaye.

Ndiaye, who has turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League because he wants to stay in the Premier League, also has interest from Man City, and we have reported that Enzo Maresca’s side are preparing to launch a bid for the £80m-rated forward.

We also reported that Man City are considering trying to lower the cost of the Ndiaye deal by offering Jack Grealish as a makeweight. The Toffees are looking to beat Aston Villa to re-sign the England international.

And Foot Mercato are also reporting Man City could swap Grealish for Ndiaye, while Tottenham are also considering a swap deal.

As per the report, Tottenham could use Richarlison to help them to sign Ndiaye, though you have to think that Everton would prefer Grealish if it was a straight choice between the two players.

Aouna said on X: ‘EXCL: Iliman Ndiaye is also among Tottenham’s options to bolster their attack. The Spurs’ interest in Folarin Balogun remains ongoing.

‘Richarlison could go the other way and join Everton.

‘Discussions between Iliman Ndiaye and Manchester City are also continuing and progressing positively, as explained yesterday. Jack Grealish could, for his part, join Everton.’

Regardless, ex-Everton player Andreas Limpar has argued that his former club needs Ndiaye and Grealish in their squad this season.

“It will be a big, big blow if Iliman Ndiaye leaves Everton for Man Utd or another club. He is the best player in this Everton team,” Limpar told PariuriX.com.

“Of course, Everton would like to keep Jack Grealish either on a loan deal or buy him, but Ndiaye was the best player and he will be one of the best players in the whole Premier League going forward.”

“Everton need Jack Grealish and Ndiaye to compete for the top spots again. You can`t just sell players! He is an Everton player, so please keep him. They have to keep their good players and bring good players in rather than selling your best players. New players coming in could be awful, so it is a big risk to let Ndiaye go.”

Tottenham Hotspur have received significant injury news ahead of Saturday evening’s visit of Newcastle United in the Premier League, while summer signing Jan Paul ven Hecke has indicated that the club may have blundered with their pre-season plans.

Spurs began the new campaign with plenty of optimism after the biggest summer spend in the club’s history, as they looked to a change in fortunes after back-to-back 17th-placed finishes.

However, Tottenham were given a stark reminder of the quality in the Premier League as they looked well off the pace during their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of a hugely impressive Brentford side last weekend.

They did bounce back by thrashing a much-changed Charlton side in the Carabao Cup in midweek, with new signing Savio on target after coming off the bench.

And with Omar Marmoush arriving on a season-long loan from Manchester City with an obligation to buy to bolster their frontline, De Zerbi’s attack has been given a clear shot in the arm.

Now add in the news that Mohammed Kudus could return to the bench against Newcastle, and things are looking so much rosier for a Tottenham frontline that struggled for creativity last season after the Ghana international suffered a quadriceps injury in January.

Kudus was the team’s most potent attacking weapon prior to the injury that ended up ruling him out for the remainder of the season, but Roberto De Zerbi has suggested that he could be back on the bench for Saturday’s clash.

There’s also the slim chance that James Maddison may have overcome his shoulder injury to feature, although that is less likely at this stage.

Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons all remain on the sidelines, but Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso are both fine after suffering facial injuries against Charlton.

Van Hecke admits pre-season tour struggles

Meanwhile, Tottenham centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke has hinted that the club’s trip Down Under in pre-season may well have had an impact on their struggles at Brentford on the opening weekend.

Spurs looked well short of the required fitness levels, struggling to match the Bees’ intensity, with De Zerbi admitting afterwards that he knew his players were not at the required physical condition, given the challenges they faced this summer.

The Italian remarked that Tottenham could not work in the way they wanted during their pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand, and now one of the club’s new signings has now made a big admission about the trip.

The Tottenham centre-back told The Guardian: “It was a really short break (after the World Cup), but I didn’t want to miss anything in the pre-season. My first days [as a Spurs player] were in New Zealand and Australia.

“Physical-wise, of course, it impacts your body. I struggled for one or two weeks.

“There are two sides. Normally you don’t go there, and now you see that they also love football. That’s something good.”

Manchester United could repeat the shock signing of former Tottenham Hotspur player Sergio Reguilon with a late move for a temporary left-back, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Man Utd surprised their fans on summer deadline day in 2023 when they captured Reguilon from Tottenham on a season-long loan deal, which followed Luke Shaw picking up a muscle injury. However, Reguilon only made 12 appearances for United before the Red Devils activated their January break clause, sending the Spaniard back to Tottenham.

United have signed Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon since then, but – remarkably – their left-back issues persist.

Head coach Michael Carrick sees Dorgu as more of a left midfielder or left winger, while Leon is only 19 years old and needs more first-team experience before making an impact at Old Trafford.

United need to sign a left-back before Tuesday’s transfer deadline as Shaw will struggle to play games in both the Premier League and Champions League this term.

United have had to postpone their move for top target Lewis Hall until next summer, while Alejandro Balde wants to stay at Barcelona.

On YouTube, Romano explained how United could make a move similar to Reguilon’s capture in the final days of the window.

“Manchester United, I think, could be busy in these final four or five days of the window,” he said.

“I can guarantee you that Manchester United are still looking for a solution at left-back. United are working to add a new left-back.

“I would not be surprised if they end up with a solution in a player who can be almost a guarantee – maybe not a superstar name like Balde, because they considered Alejandro Balde.

“They had a call with Jorge Mendes one week ago, but the deal is too expensive: transfer fee and salary too expensive. United are not going to do that, at least not now.

“Just as a comparison, remember when United signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham on loan – something similar.

“Obviously, I’m not saying it’s that exact profile again, but that kind of player: an experienced left-back who can provide competition and who also has an international profile.

“Manchester United are exploring this kind of option. Left-back is expected to be an area United want to improve before the deadline. I expect them to sign there.”

United’s plan is to bring in a cheap or younger left-back to help out Shaw this season, before reigniting their pursuit of Hall next summer.

INEOS do not want to spend big money on a left-back this summer as that would impact Hall’s minutes if he did end up moving to Old Trafford in 2027.

David Raum of RB Leipzig has been linked and, while he has admitted he is open to a move, he will cost around £30m, similar to Balde.

Racing Santander starlet Jorge Salinas could be a good solution, as the 19-year-old has a €16m (£14m) release clause in his contract.

Salinas is more experienced than Leon, but he does not have the big-game know-how that Romano has suggested United are looking for.

Manchester City are actively working towards a double signing worth £200m that will sting Everton and benefit Tottenham, according to reports.

Man City have embarked on a monumental squad overhaul this summer, though as yet, far many more have left than joined.

As such, the final few days of the window will bring a flurry of signings, and Enzo Maresca’s side are determined to add both Everton talisman, Iliman Ndiaye, and Chelsea ace, Enzo Fernandez.

“But Everton are ready to include Jack Grealish in a conversation about Ndiaye.

“Ndiaye said no to Al-Hilal and another Saudi club this summer. He wants to stay in the Premier League.

“Negotiations are ongoing, so he’s a serious option on Man City’s list.”

Romano went on to confirm Pedro Neto (Chelsea) and Cody Gakpo (Liverpool) remain alternatives under consideration at City.

But if Maresca’s men do press ahead with Ndiaye, they’ll disregard the others, much to Tottenham’s delight given Spurs are pushing to complete their attacking rebuild with the signing of Gakpo.

Savio and Omar Marmoush have already joined, and Spurs have agreed personal terms with Gakpo. Liverpool want one more winger after Bradley Barcola before greenlighting Gakpo’s sale, which would be to Tottenham if Man City get Ndiaye.

The second massive move Man City want over the coming days regards Enzo Fernandez.

Enzo Fernandez transfer latest

The Argentine has approved a move to Man City where he’d reunite with Maresca who he worked under at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez was left out of Chelsea’s squad to face Luton Town in the League Cup on Thursday night, thus indicating a deal is there to be made.

Detailing the latest, Romano said: “Man City are in contact with the agents of the player on a daily basis.

“They’re expected to have direct discussions with Chelsea to make a final decision on this deal very soon.”

Romano concluded by reaffirming Fernandez has said yes to the idea of signing for Man City.

Regarding cost, Chelsea want £120m, but also to sign, or at the very least line up, a worthy replacement first.

If the Blues determine they can’t sign a suitable heir for Fernandez in time, there’ll be no sale for the Argentine.

Two observers claim a ‘moody git’ Tottenham player is now certain to leave as a direct consequence of Omar Marmoush arriving, and TEAMtalk can reveal which club he might join.

Tottenham’s revamp in the final third is now two thirds complete. Savio was the first to arrive and enjoyed the perfect debut on Wednesday night when both scoring and assisting in Spurs’ 5-1 demolition of Charlton Athletic in the League Cup.

Savio will line up on the right side, with Omar Marmoush expected to compete with Dominic Solanke for starts in the striker position.

If Spurs get their way, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo will complete the overhaul and line up on the left side.

“I think Richarlison is a certainty to leave,” said Brazil when referencing the Marmoush deal.

“Yes, I would guess that would be the case,” replied McCoist.

Brazil then added: “He looks a moody git doesn’t he? He’s really moody, like the whole world’s against him.

“Sometimes he looks as if he’s like, ‘I don’t care,’ and then other times he can be brilliant, but he’s gone.”

McCoist concluded: “I think he’s leaving. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that, I think he’s going to go to pastures new.”

Where Richarlison could go

With Spurs out of Europe this season, the fixture list is sparser than usual and opportunities for Richarlison will be in desperately short supply if he stays.

Accordingly, an exit is now anticipated, with our insider, Graeme Bailey, recently bringing news of a possible return to Everton.

Bailey explained on August 22: ‘Tottenham’s decision to add Marmoush will also have consequences for their existing squad too, with Richarlison now looking at his future.

Nottingham Forest have reportedly reached a decision over whether they are willing to part company with Neco Williams before the summer transfer window closes, amid strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs and Forest have previous when it comes to former’s failed efforts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White last summer, after City Ground chief Evangelos Marinakis refused to sell, despite the England international’s release clause having been triggered.

Forest themselves have shown interest on a raid on Tottenham this summer for wantaway Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, only for Roberto De Zerbi to insist the 20-year-old remains a key part of his plans. Indeed, Bergvall has started both of Spurs’ games so far this season.

While there has been some mention of a potential swap deal involving Gibbs-White heading to north London and Bergvall, plus a significant sum heading the other way, Forest’s stance on selling their skipper has remained steadfast throughout.

However, it’s another City Ground star who has been the subject of Spurs links of late, with full-back Neco Williams emerging as a major target for De Zerbi, who wants the player on board.

Tottenham are in need of greater left-back depth after selling the versatile Djed Spence, while injury-prone Destiny Udogie struggles to string games together and free agent signing Andy Robertson is now 32.

Williams has been a key part of Forest’s progress in recent seasons, and is expected to play a pivotal role under Oliver Glasner moving forward. That’s not stopping Spurs laying down a marker for a potential move before deadline day, though.

“We know how the owner there can be as well, if he doesn’t want to sell, then there’s almost no way of doing a deal.

“So Forest will be doing everything they can to keep their best players at the club, especially this late in the transfer window, and Williams is certainly one of those.”

Football Insider have now followed up on those comments and state that Forest are making it abundantly clear to suitors that the Wales international is not for sale at any price.

Indeed, Aston Villa are asking for less than £10million to offload Martinez, who made it clear to the club before the summer’s World Cup finals that he wanted to leave Villa Park.

The Argentina international was heavily linked with Manchester United last summer, although a move to Old Trafford failed to materialise.

Romano reveals Emi Martinez plans

Indeed, transfer reporter Romano has detailed Martinez’s next move preference amid that interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.

He wrote on X: “Emiliano Martínez already said yes to Chelsea project. He wants the move and hopes for #CFC switch ahead of the deadline.

Moving to Chelsea makes sense on many levels, none more so than current Blues No.1 Robert Sanchez continuing to be wildly inconsistent.

As for Tottenham’s interest, Roberto De Zerbi made it clear heading into the summer that Antonin Kinsky was his No.1, with Dubravka being signed as experienced back-up.

However, talk surrounding Martinez was not that surprising after Kinsky struggled during the opening weekend loss to Brentford, although Romano appears to have completely ruled out the Villa man heading to north London.

The north London club have agreed a loan deal to sign Marmoush, with an obligation to make the deal permanent for £60m (€70m / $81.5m) next summer.

Marmoush, who scored 16 goals in 62 appearances in all competitions for City following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, will officially wear the No.22 shirt and should be in line to make his debut against Newcastle on Saturday.

Gakpo still pushing hard for Tottenham move

While the additions of Savio and Marmoush – not taking into account the fee that Spurs will pay for the Egyptian in 2027 – have taken the club’s spending to over £300m this summer, it appears they are not done there.

Indeed, TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed that Tottenham remain on course to sign Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, who continues to actively push for a move to the capital.

The Netherlands international was Liverpool’s best attacker in their 2-2 opening weekend draw with Newcastle, with Andoni Iraola reluctant to let him leave.

However, Gakpo’s exit is tied to the Reds bringing in at least one, if not two, new forwards before the window shuts, with David Ornstein revealing that an agreement in principle is now in place to secure the signing of PSG star Bradley Barcola.

That should definitely help Gakpo to Tottenham move on quickly, with talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook also confirming on X: “Tottenham still pushing to sign Cody Gakpo. Understand a move to Man City unlikely at this stage.

“Liverpool remain in talks with PSG for Bradley Barcola. French sources suggesting that one is more likely than unlikely between now and the transfer deadline.”

Intermediaries have offered Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur the chance to sign Emiliano Martinez, with Aston Villa looking for options to move on the 33-year-old this summer, TEAMtalk can reveal.

We understand Villa are not demanding a huge fee for Martinez – less than £10million – who made it clear to the club before the summer’s World Cup finals that he wanted to leave Villa Park.

The MLS side have a strong Argentine contingent, including Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, and Martinez is understood to be attracted by the possibility of joining them under the wider David Beckham-led project.

Chelsea and Tottenham in the mix for Emi Martinez

Despite the draw of Inter Miami, there is also interest in Martinez in Europe and intermediaries are continuing to assess the market.

TEAMtalk can confirm that Chelsea and Tottenham have been approached about Martinez’s availability as both clubs had been expected to consider changes to their first-choice goalkeepers this summer.

Chelsea ultimately decided to stick with Robert Sanchez with young Belgian Mike Penders as back-up, while Tottenham opted to go with young Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky as their first choice.

Both Sanchez and Kinsky had questionable opening Premier League matches, however, which could yet lead to renewed consideration of the market before the transfer window closes.

For now, Martinez remains a Villa player, but the club are prepared to facilitate his departure and intermediaries are actively exploring opportunities across England, Europe, Saudi Arabia and MLS.

Despite only chalking up two Premier League goals in his last two seasons with City, De Zerbi is confident he can unlock the Brazilian’s potential, telling reporters: “If you analyse the best wingers in the world they score 10-15 goals a season and he has the qualities.

“Maybe it’s a habit and he has to get the habit. We need to increase the chances to score. The best teams score lots of goals.”

As for other team news ahead of the midweek cup clash, De Zerbi revealed that skipper Micky van de Ven and World Cup winner Pedro Porro are available for selection.

Van de Ven has yet to feature since returning from the World Cup in July, while Pedro only returned from his summer exploits with Spain on 13 August.

Speaking about the duo, along with any fresh issues in his squad, De Zerbi added: “Van de Ven comes on the bench, Pedro Porro comes on the bench. Solanke is available to play. I’m glad to have Pedro Porro inside and Micky van de Ven inside of the squad.

“Kudus is not ready yet and Maddison suffered a small injury in the shoulder.”

Xavi Simons, Deki Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert all remain on the sidelines.
