Eberechi Eze: Arsenal make 'strong' double transfer pitch amid BIG Palace demand

Arsenal hopeful of sealing signing of Gunners fan Eze as Palace lay down transfer demands - TEAMtalk
Description

Arsenal are growing in confidence they can strike a deal to bring Eberechi Eze to Emirates Stadium, with the player increasingly keen on making the move and with Crystal Palace making clear their transfer demands.

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the leading playmakers in the Premier League, playing a part in 68 goals (40 scored, 28 assists) in 167 appearances since joining the Eagles in a £20m move from QPR in 2020. Having also established himself as a regular with England, having won 11 caps, it is easy to see why Eze is starting to attract serious interest in his services.

The Eagles star has been linked, for the best part of a year, with a move across London to Tottenham Hotspur. And while Spurs chief Daniel Levy is reportedly finally ready to act upon the £68m clause that exists in his contract, it is Arsenal who have suddenly powered their way to the front of the transfer queue.

Powered by the fact that Eze supported the Gunners as a boy, the player now looks destined to return to Emirates Stadium and having been released by the club as a schoolboy back when he was 13.

We can reveal that talks between Arsenal and Eze representatives have already taken place to ascertain the player’s salary demands and to try and understand more about the clause that exists in his contract.

And now two sources claim a deal to bring the star to Arsenal is edging closer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the player is ‘open’ to the move and with another, Just Arsenal, revealing that the Gunners are now prepared to launch a two-fronted pitch to the player, with ‘a strong financial and sporting case’ being planned towards the player and his CAA agency.

Showcasing the role Mikel Arteta foresees for Eze in his side, it’s also reported that Arsenal plan to offer the player a contract worth double the money he is earning at Selhurst Park right now.

Despite that, a deal to bring the player across London may not be quite so straightforward, with the Eagles making clear there will be no discounts on the clause that exists in his contract.

Palace warn Arsenal over Eberechi Eze transfer fee

Indeed, it was claimed last month that Palace would be open to reducing that £68m exit clause if they could guarantee a larger portion of the payment up front and/ or were able to collect the bulk of that fee over a shorter period of time.

As a result, the Evening Standard reported that the Gunners were indeed hoping to negotiate a lesser fee with the Eagles and in a bid to ease their financial burden ahead of a big-money striker signing at Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, the paper reports that the Eagles will absolutely not consider any sort of discount on his transfer fee and will insist on the full £68m (€79m, $92.6m) fee in full.

There is some good news, though, for Arsenal, with Crystal Palace open to receiving any payments for the player in three instalments.

Plus, the good news for Arsenal fans is that any move for Eze will not come at the expense of any other signings.

And transfer specialist David Ornstein has revealed that the signing of a left winger and striker are still very much on their radar and that Arsenal actually hope to sign THREE new attackers this summer.

“One situation to keep an eye on is Arsenal and Eberechi Eze,” began Ornstein. “The 27-year-old is among the options being considered as Mikel Arteta’s side seek a versatile attacker.

“No contact has yet been made with Crystal Palace, but serious consideration is being given to the idea at the Emirates.

“No other clubs have the same level of interest at the moment and he is not a player Tottenham Hotspur have been working to bring in.

“The England forward has a release clause in his contract, but Arsenal would be looking to do a deal at a lower price.

“It is unclear whether a sale would need to happen first to facilitate a move, but this would be separate to their pursuit of a striker and left winger.”

The report listed Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa) and Noni Madueke (Chelsea) as Arsenal’s alternatives if they don’t go on to sign Eze.

Arsenal transfer latest: Rodrygo bombshell; huge Sesko claims

Arsenal, meanwhile, have received a huge boost in their quest to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, according to a journalist, though another source has claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side are facing a new threat.

The Gunners’ interest in the Brazilian has seemingly been escalated after they fell behind in the race for Nico Williams.

And now it’s being reported that Barcelona are ready to go to crazy lengths to beat the Gunners in the race for the Athletic Club star, with a rare clause being discussed.

On the striker front, Arsenal are on the cusp of reaching an agreement to finally sign Benjamin Sesko, with a deal to prise the Slovenian from RB Leipzig set to go through for a ‘compromised fee’, though still subject to one condition being fulfilled, according to a report.

‘Best’ Tottenham star wants Real Madrid to ‘submit an official offer’ - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero is ready to make the move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to a report, but Los Blancos will not find it a cheap deal as Spurs have set a hefty price-tag.

Following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign where Madrid could not win LaLiga, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey, Los Blancos have been very active this summer. Xabi Alonso has replaced Carlo Ancelotti as the Madrid manager, and the former Los Blancos midfielder already has three new players in his squad for next season.

While central defender Dean Huijsen has joined from Bournemouth, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the switch from Liverpool.

Franco Mastantuono will also link up with Madrid in August after he turns 18, with a deal being already agreed with River Plate.

It seems that Tottenham centre-back Romero could be on his way to Madrid, too, with a report claiming that the Argentina international is open to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu amid interest from Los Blancos.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, reported on June 12 that Romero was left ‘livid’ at Tottenham’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou as the manager despite winning the Europa League last season.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Romero is a prime target of Atletico Madrid, with city rivals Madrid also keen.

According to a new report on CaughtOffSide, Madrid want to sign another centre-back despite the arrival of Huijsen and have been impressed with Romero.

The report has claimed that Los Blancos ‘have admired Romero since last summer’ and will now ‘take a more concrete approach’.

‘Sources close to Romero suggest that while he is content at Tottenham and enjoys being a key figure at Spurs, he would be open to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu should Real Madrid submit an official offer,’ adds the report.

CaughtOffSide’s report about Romero and Madrid follows a report in the Spanish media on June 24 claiming that Alonso has told his Los Blancos bosses he ‘needs a defender who can take on responsibility from day one’.

Romero, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, is one of the defenders who was mentioned in the report.

Real Madrid face two obstacles in Cristian Romero pursuit

Sources have told TEAMtalk that new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is keen on retaining the services of Romero.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who won the Copa America with Argentina in 2021 and 2024, is under contract at Tottenham until the summer of 2027 and was described by Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as “the best centre-back in the world” on ESPN Argentina in May.

However, Tottenham will be tempted to cash in on Romero if they get £60million for him.

CaughtOffSide’s report, too, states that Tottenham want €70million (£60.4m, $82.4m) for Romero.

That fee, though, is viewed as ‘excessive’ by Madrid, who face the added imminent threat of Atletico.

Atletico are keen on getting a deal done and are planning to open direct talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for Romero.

Along with Huijsen, Raul Asensio, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are the other main centre-back options for Alonso.

Alaba has had injury problems and is 33, while Rudiger is 32, so there is a need for Madrid to add depth in that area.

Latest Real Madrid news: Rodrygo decision made, failed Barcelona plan

A trusted journalist has revealed that Arsenal target Rodrygo has made up his mind on his future and will soon communicate with Madrid.

Despite Barcelona making a late play for a top young midfielder, he has signed for Madrid and never thought of making the move to the Spanish giants.

One of Manchester United’s best young players regrets his decision not to sign for Madrid when he had the chance in the summer of 2024, claims a Spanish report.

Arne Slot in dreamland as £85m star ‘informs’ Liverpool he wants to join - TEAMtalk
Description

Mohammed Kudus is ready to make the move to Liverpool and play for Arne Slot, according to a source, with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy suffering a huge blow in his quest to sign the West Ham United star.

Kudus has been on the books of West Ham since 2023 and is under contract at the London club until the summer of 2028, with the option for a further year. The 24-year-old has demonstrated his ability to play in a number of positions in attack for West Ham, scoring 19 goals and registering 13 assists in 80 appearances for the London club.

The Ghana international has a release clause in his contract that runs out on July 10. As per the terms, a club in the Premier League would have to pay West Ham £85million to sign Kudus, who is available for £80m for European teams and £120m for sides in the Saudi Pro League, according to the London Evening Standard.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, reported on June 5 that Kudus is ready to leave West Ham and take the next step in his contract.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Chelsea are among the clubs keen on a summer deal for Kudus.

It has now emerged that Kudus would prefer a move to Liverpool to a switch to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Despite also having interest from Tottenham, the 24-year-old has let it be known to Liverpool that he is eager to move to the Premier League champions and even take a pay-cut.

Matt Thielen, editor-in-chief of LFC Transfer Room, has reported on X: “Mohammed Kudus’s agent has informed Liverpool that the player would be open to accepting a reduced salary should the club express interest in securing his services amid interest from Tottenham & Chelsea. #LFC”

Liverpool have been linked with Kudus previously, with CaughtOffSide reporting in April that the West Ham star is on sporting director Richard Hughes’ radar.

That report came just days after Liverpool manager Slot publicly praised Kudus for his performance at Anfield, describing his display as “outstanding”.

With Luis Diaz itching to leave Liverpool, Kudus could be viewed as a potential replacement for the Colombian ace.

Mohammed Kudus stance a blow for Tottenham

With Kudus making it clear that he wants to join Liverpool, Tottenham chairman Levy will be hugely disappointed.

Levy personally overruled new manager Thomas Frank in Tottenham’s pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and is focused on getting a deal done for Kudus instead.

According to GiveMeSport. Levy has held direct talks with West Ham chief David Sullivan over Kudus.

TBR has reported that the Tottenham star likes the Ghanaian star so much that he believes that Frank could mould him into a superstar like he did with Bryan Mbeumo at Brentford.

However, with the attacker said to prefer Liverpool, Spurs face an uphill struggle to convince him to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With the likes of Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott very likely to leave this summer, Liverpool could take a serious look at Kudus.

Latest Liverpool news: Luis Diaz offer, Marc Guehi move ‘agreed’

Liverpool have given an instant response to Bayern Munich after the Bavarian giants made a play for Diaz, who is upset with the club’s hierarchy.

One of the best young players has decided to extend his stay at Liverpool, with the Reds rating him highly, having seen him make his debut for the club under then-manager Jurgen Klopp in the FA Cup against Southampton aged 16 and 243 days.

Amid Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak, Newcastle United are planning a raid on an Anfield attacker who has fallen out of favour with Slot.

And finally, the next Liverpool signing appears increasingly likely to be Marc Guehi. That’s after a journalist revealed an ‘agreement in principle’ has been struck over the defender – while Crystal Palace could hand some cash straight back with a raid on the Reds of their own.

Thomas Frank green lights incredible Kudus signing for Tottenham after significant price drop - TEAMtalk
Description

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has reportedly given the thumbs up to what could be one of the signings of the summer after a Premier League rival decided to cut the player’s release clause price by £25million.

The north London outfit have already spent £60m on two new (but old) additions after turning the loans of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel into permanent switches, while a £5m deal for Japan international defender Kota Takai has also been agreed.

It’s clear to see that Frank wants at least one more new attacker on board at Tottenham this summer, given the continuous links to the likes Eberechi Eze, Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo.

However, West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus has since emerged as a shock target, given the lack of direct business that has happened between the two clubs since the Premier League began back in 1992/93.

Indeed, there have only been five players who have made the switch from east London to north in that time, with the last of those being Scott Parker back in 2011.

While the initial links for Kudus seemed tenuous, Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed that a deal has a chance of happening, given that Kudus is open to the move, while it’s now reported that the Hammers are also willing to negotiate at well below the attacker’s release clause figure of £85m.

The Guardian states that London Stadium chiefs are ready to offload Kudus for £60m and that the figure being mooted is manageable for Daniel Levy, while Frank has also green-lit the switch.

Although controversial, Kudus swapping West Ham for Spurs could be a massive coup for Frank, especially when the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle are also weighing up moves of their own for the player.

West Ham forced into Kudus sale

Frank is understood to be a big fan of Kudus’ abilities, while his versatility enables him to play right across the frontline in multiple positions.

It’s reported that the Ghana international is being viewed as a direct replacement for Tottenham legend Son Heung-min, who continues to be linked with an exit this summer.

While Kudus only managed five goals and four assists last season, Frank views him as a player more than capable of getting into double figures for both.

In terms of West Ham’s willingness to sell, part of it stems from a fear of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules while there have also been questions raised over potential character concerns.

Meanwhile, The Guardian adds that while the Hammers ‘would prefer not to sell to Spurs given the enmity between the clubs’, they ‘are willing to be pragmatic’ to avoid punishment from the Premier League.

While the money is there for Tottenham to make one or two big splashes in the summer market after their return to the Champions League, sales are also needed to balance the books.

Along with Son, another top star is expected to leave in Brazilian forward Richarlison, who is expected to try and resurrect his club career elsewhere this summer.

Tottenham transfers: Romano confirms blockbuster signing report with £85m forward deal ON - TEAMtalk
Description

Fabrizio Romano has backed up a report from the Daily Telegraph that suggests Tottenham Hotspur could make one of the signings of the summer for a top Premier League attacker with an £85million release clause.

The Telegraph states that Spurs want to break their unofficial transfer embargo with their bitter London rivals and make Mohammed Kudus the first player to move directly from the Hammers in over 10 years, in what would be a hugely controversial switch.

Kudus has reportedly been identified as a blockbuster Tottenham target given their struggles to persuade Bryan Mbeumo to turn down Manchester United, while they have also backed off their interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as well.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo still remains an option for Thomas Frank, but The Telegraph and Romano have confirmed that Kudus could end up making the stunning switch across the capital.

The former states that West Ham are willing to sell 24-year-old to help finance a summer rebuild under head coach Graham Potter, while Romano adds that Kudus is ‘open’ to the idea of having talks over a shock switch to north London.

Joining Spurs would make Kudus the first player to move directly from West Ham since midfielder Scott Parker in 2011.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy blocked Emmanuel Adebayor from joining the Hammers four years later and the clubs have not done business since the Parker deal as a result.

Chelsea had shown an interest in Kudus, but the Stamford Bridge outfit are now closing in on landing winger Jamie Gittens and striker Joao Pedro instead. Newcastle have also targeted the West Ham star, although their man winger target remains Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga.

Kudus lined up as Son replacement at Tottenham

The West Ham star could walk straight into the Spurs starting line-up as a replacement for legendary skipper Son Heung-min, who continues to be linked with a summer exit.

One of the Ghana attacker’s top attributes is his ability to anywhere across the frontline, including as a No.10. However, he played most as a left-winger with the Hammers last season as he ended the campaign with five goals and four assists.

While those stats do not exactly jump off the page, Kudus’ all-round performances were at a high level, with the winger causing all sorts of issues for opposing full-backs.

While Romano has confirmed that ‘initial contacts’ have been made over a move with the player’s new agents, there is the sticking point of the £85m (€99m / $116m) exit clause Kudus currently has.

However, The Telegraph adds that West Ham are expected to allow him to leave for less in order to generate funds for new arrivals at the London Stadium.

While there is no mention of the actual price he could be available at, it’s reported it could be anywhere between £55-65m.

If Kudus does make the move, he would become just the sixth player to switch directly from West Ham to Tottenham – following on from the likes of Parker, goalkeeper Jimmy Walker, Michael Carrick, Jermain Defoe and Freddie Kanoute.

Eberechi Eze: Levy makes huge Tottenham transfer decision as £68m Arsenal claims escalate

Tottenham transfers: Levy DECIDES as Tottenham make huge Eberechi Eze transfer call - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a final decision over whether or not to pay out the £68million release clause to sign one of their chief tormentors, Eberechi Eze, this summer, amid firm interest from north London rivals Arsenal.

The Crystal Palace playmaker has scored three goals and also notched an assist in seven appearances against Tottenham in the Premier League in his career, including bagging a spectacular double in a 2-0 Palace win in north London last season.

Spurs made their move for Eze after it looked increasingly likely that Bryan Mbeumo would snub the chance to follow Thomas Frank to north London in favour of a move to Manchester United, which has been his preferred destination from the outset.

While there could still be a glimmer of hope with Mbeumo, given his excessive wage demands to move to Old Trafford, a swoop for Eze has looked the most likely outcome for Tottenham in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Palace, culminating in him scoring the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. That led to talk of clubs looking to trigger his £68m (€79m / $93m) exit clause, with Spurs at the front of the queue.

However, trusted journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Arsenal now hold the upper hand in the chase for Eze after Daniel Levy decided to pull Tottenham away from a potential club record signing.

Speaking on talkSPORT about the latest on the Gunners’ interest in the Palace star and other targets, Jacobs said: “Eze’s the one that very possibly can get done.

“Because there’s a £68million release clause, and crucially it’s payable in three installments. Now this has been billed as a kind of North London derby – it might be Arsenal, it might be Spurs.

“My understanding is that Tottenham have actually backed off in the last few hours and although the interest is genuine, it’s now nothing really more than that. Eze, some say, is an Arsenal fan as well.

“So Eze to Arsenal could be one to watch because if they can’t get Rodrygo, it wouldn’t surprise me if they ramp up their interest in Eze.

“Simply because that release clause makes things a little bit easier, especially because it isn’t payable in that one lump sum.”

DON’T MISS ➡️ Every Premier League player out of contract tomorrow and set to become free agents

Eze transfer decision likely to anger Spurs fans

If Jacobs’ comments are indeed accurate, they are likely to leave Tottenham fans angry at Levy yet again – especially given the massive need to strengthen a squad that struggled to cope with the demands of domestic and Europa League football last season, let alone Champions League in 2025/26.

Potentially missing out on the likes of Mbeumo and Eze will not go down well at all, especially when both players would cost slightly more than the club’s £65m record signing of Dominic Solanke.

It once again cries out of a lack of ambition, just when the club need to make a statement signing following their return to the top table of European football.

The spine of the current Tottenham team is definitely in need of attention, especially in midfield, where they regularly failed to control games under Ange Postecoglou.

To that end, it could be argued that Eze would be a luxury signing, although the fact that skipper Son Heung-min continues to be linked with a summer exit would make the Palace man a supreme replacement for the club legend.

It just remains to be seen what happens with Arsenal’s interest and how genuine it actually is, given that they already have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard who can play on the left while skipper Martin Odegaard is their standout No.10.

Tottenham backed to make utterly ruthless call and sell star who's in 'decline' - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham should make a ruthless call on Son Heung-min, according to a senior journalist who has also detailed the unwinnable outcome Spurs find themselves in with another star.

Son is unquestionably the greatest South Korean footballer of all time, likely the No 1 Asian footballer of all time, and ranks extremely highly amongst the finest to pull on a Tottenham shirt.

The forward sits fifth in the club’s all-time top scorers chart with 173 goals, behind only Harry Kane (280), Jimmy Greaves (268), Bobby Smith (208) and Martin Chivers (174).

He’s also the club’s all-time leading assister in the Premier League era with 77 despite not joining the club until the age of 23.

Son finally lifted his first major honour in a Spurs shirt when winning the Europa League in May. However, while it wound up being a successful season for the club, Son’s individual fortunes suffered.

Injuries hampered his season at points, though in 46 appearances he scored just 11 goals. That was Son’s lowest goals return since his first season in north London.

Son is contracted to Tottenham for one more season but according to Dan Kilpatrick, the club would be wise to sanction a sale at a very opportune and brutally ruthless time.

“He’s won his trophy now, he’s got that moment and has a year on his contract,” said Kilpatrick who is the Deputy News Editor with The Athletic. “But I think it’s fair to say there was a decline last season.

“Even considering the conditions of the team he wasn’t the same Son we knew before.

“So I think it might make sense for all parties if he were to move on in the summer AFTER they’ve been on the Korea tour.

“That’s the key point, they’re not going to let him go before they’ve done that.”

Cristian Romero situation unwinnable for Spurs

Touching on the situation of centre-back Romero who has been linked with both Madrid clubs, Kilpatrick added: “For Romero I think it would be a bad message for Spurs to sell their World Cup-winning captain at this point.

“They’re looking to kick on and build on the Europa League success but he’s got two years on his contract and there’s no really good outcome for Spurs in this one.

“Either they sell him now and bank big money or they run the risk of him running it down and then being over a barrel in a year or 18 months’ time.

“So I think they have to consider any really good offers for Romero this summer. But the way he played in the Europa League I think he showed he’s a winner, he’s a leader.

“Spurs haven’t had many of them over the years, they don’t have many of them in the squad now, so they won’t want to lose the one they’ve got.”

Bukayo Saka tells ‘world-class’ star to join Arsenal and snub Tottenham - TEAMtalk
Description

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has privately told Eberechi Eze to move to the Emirates Stadium, according to a report, but a former Tottenham Hotspur striker believes that the Crystal Palace star should join Thomas Frank’s side instead and emulate a Manchester United legend.

Eze is one of the best attacking players in the Premier League and has drawn interest from bitter north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. The 26-year-old, who played predominantly as an attacking midfielder last season, has been on the books of Palace since 2020 and is under contract at the London outfit until the summer of 2027.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has reported that both Arsenal and Tottenham are keen on signing Eze in the summer transfer window and have already held talks over a summer deal.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Tottenham are ready to make Eze their club-record signing by triggering the £68million release clause in his Palace contract.

New Spurs manager Frank is so keen on working with the 26-year-old that the north London club are even willing to meet Palace’s demands of paying £45million upfront.

Per Fletcher, Arsenal have already made an offer to Eze, who is very happy with it.

Football Transfers has brought an update on Eze’s situation and has revealed what Saka has told the Palace star, who was described by former Chelsea and Liverpool ace Joe Cole on Channel 4 in June 2024 as “a world-class player”.

Saka and Eze are England international teammates and know each other well.

The duo are ‘good friends are are regularly seen together off the pitch’, according to the report, which has claimed: ‘Sources suggest that Saka has privately encouraged Eze to make the move to the Emirates’.

While Martin Odegaard is Arsenal’s playmaker-in-chief, Eze could be deployed on the left-hand side of the attack, where he has played for Palace in seasons gone past.

The future of Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal is uncertain because of Bayern Munich’s interest in the Brazil international winger.

Although Arsenal have identified Real Madrid forward Rodrygo for the role on the left wing, the Brazil international has not yet made a final decision on his future.

The Gunners also hold an interest in Nico Williams, but the Athletic Bilbao winger has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona.

Eberechi Eze backed to be Tottenham’s Eric Cantona

Former Tottenham striker Sheringham is a huge fan of Eze, and he believes that the attacking midfielder would be a brilliant addition to Frank’s team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The former Manchester United striker believes that Eze could make the impact at Tottenham that Eric Cantona did at Old Trafford when he joined from Leeds United in 1992.

During his time at Man Utd, Cantona won the Premier League title four times and the FA Cup twice.

FourFourTwo quotes Sheringham as saying about Eze: “Players like Eze would enhance that football club.

“They’re in the Champions League this coming season, so they can afford to push the boat out and sign some players with a big stature and reputation.

“I think Eze is definitely one of those that would walk into Tottenham Hotspur and think ‘This is a proper place, I’m going to enjoy playing my football here’.

“I think he can shine the way Eric Cantona did when he went to Man United all those years ago.

“He could become the main man at Spurs, and that’s the type of player you want coming into your club.”

Bryan Mbeumo: Man Utd beat Tottenham as details of improved bid emerge - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have conceded defeat in the race to sign Bryan Mbeumo, with Manchester United the only club left standing amid a comprehensive update on the ongoing transfer saga.

Bryan Mbeumo is on course to leave Brentford this summer, though not on the cheap. The livewire attacker only has one year remaining on his contract but the Bees hold a club option for an extra 12 months. As such, and effectively tied down for two more years, Brentford are holding out for a premium sum.

Mbeumo has made no secret of his desire to sign for Man Utd and that is music to the ears of Ruben Amorim.

The United boss wants to field Mbeumo alongside Matheus Cunha in the two No 10 roles behind the striker.

Tottenham emerged as a credible threat to Man Utd’s plan, especially in the wake of Thomas Frank – Mbeumo’s former manager at Brentford – replacing Ange Postecoglou.

However, a fresh and comprehensive update from The Athletic’s David Ornstein has shed new light on the transfer saga.

Firstly, Ornstein insisted Spurs are denying they’ve ever tabled a bid for Mbeumo this summer.

That is not to say Spurs don’t admire the player, but reports of Tottenham thundering in with an offer are not accurate, according to club sources.

Furthermore, Ornstein declared Tottenham are ‘no longer pursuing the situation.’ That stance will only change if Man Utd fail to seal a deal of their own.

Exact Man Utd bid revealed, but it wasn’t enough

The Red Devils have launched two separate bids thus far. The first was worth £45m plus £10m in add-ons. The second was described as being in excess of £60m, though exact details were scarce.

The report has provided clarity on United’s second bid, claiming it comprised of £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons.

The total value of the offer is £62.5m and that is the exact amount it cost to sign Cunha from Wolves. Brentford are believed to value Mbeumo at £70m, though have been using the £62.5m Man Utd paid for Cunha as a measuring stick.

Ornstein noted United’s second bid has been rejected, though talks between the clubs are continuing.

One figure who’ll certainly hope a decisive third bid is tabled is Mbeumo himself.

Ornstein stressed the left-footer has ‘informed Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur of his decision to sign for Manchester United if he makes a transfer this summer.’

As such, all eyes are on whether United launch a new and improved third bid, or whether they stick to their £62.5m figure and simply offer a higher proportion of the sum up front.

Another way in which Man Utd might be able to get the green light from Brentford is to make the add-ons involved more easily achievable.

In any case, what is clear is Man Utd do have the wriggle room to sign Mbeumo without selling players first.

Ornstein concluded: “Funds are said to be available for Manchester United to secure the former Troyes attacker without requiring sales in advance.

“However, they plan to remain disciplined and avoid overpaying for players in the market.”

Description

Tottenham are open to shifting a 2023 signing once and for all, though the rumoured move doing the rounds in the media is not advanced, according to reports.

It’s all change at Tottenham this summer with Thomas Frank displacing Ange Postecoglou despite the latter leading Spurs to their first trophy since 2008.

Tottenham have already got their window underway by signing loan pair Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel to permanent deals.

Japan international Kota Takai is the next to arrive, while first-teamers Fraser Forster and Sergio Reguilon will leave when their contracts expire on June 30. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been sold to Marseille.

Another forgotten man Spurs are reportedly prepared to wave goodbye to is striker Alejo Velix.

The Argentine cost £13m when signed Rosario Central in 2023, though his impact in north London has been negligible.

Veliz, now 21, has made just eight appearances in a Spurs shirt, scoring once. He’s spent time out on loan at Sevilla and Espanyol, but per talkSPORT and Ben Jacobs, the next step is a permanent sale.

talkSPORT wrote: “Tottenham are open to selling striker Alejo Veliz this summer.

“However, the club have yet to receive a formal bid for the Argentine, with no potential deals currently at an advanced stage.

“Racing Club in his native Argentina have been linked with a move for Veliz.”

As mentioned, Racing Club in Veliz’s home country of Argentina have been linked across the media of late.

But per journalist Ben Jacobs, suggestions a deal is close or advanced are not accurate just yet.

Taking to X, Jacobs wrote: “Suggestions Alejo Veliz is close to Racing are wide of the mark.

“Spurs are open to an exit, but haven’t received any formal bid. Nothing is advanced or concrete so far.”
