After Xavi Simons, Tottenham tipped to go all out for £80m ‘dream signing’ following ‘discussions’ - TEAMtalk
Description

Gary Lineker has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa after chairman Daniel Levy sanctioned a deal for Xavi Simons, as Unai Emery’s stance on selling the star before the summer transfer window closes on September 1 comes to light.

With Son Heung-min leaving for Los Angeles FC and James Maddison suffering a long-term knee injury in pre-season, Tottenham are in the market for attacking reinforcements. Despite Chelsea’s interest, Tottenham have secured the services of versatile Dutch star Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and are looking to add another player to manager Thomas Frank’s squad who can be deployed in an attacking role.

Savinho is a player that Tottenham are determined to sign, despite Manchester City being adamant that the Brazil international winger is not for sale.

Villa attacker Rogers is another player that Tottenham are keen on, with Football Insider reporting on August 25 that the north London club have already held ‘preliminary discussions’ over a potential deal for the 23-year-old.

Rogers is a very versatile player who played in attacking midfield, as a right-winger and as a left-winger for Villa last season.

Villa manager Emery also deployed Rogers as a centre-forward on three occasions in the 2024/25 campaign, as the 23-year-old scored 14 goals and gave 16 assists in 54 matches in all competitions.

Former Tottenham striker Lineker believes that Rogers would be a brilliant signing for Thomas Frank’s side.

Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast: “I’ve seen Morgan Rogers linked with Tottenham.

“I’m sorry Villa fans, I think that’d be an incredible signing for Spurs. I think they (Villa) might have PSR problems.

“And given the disappointments of missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, I think that would more than make up for things. He’s a player.”

Unai Emery wants to keep Morgan Rogers

While Lineker would love to see Rogers join his former club Tottenham, ex-Villa star Micah Richards has urged the Villans to keep hold of the youngster.

Richards responded to Lineker: “He’s got to stay. He can’t go anywhere. It’d be a great signing, but they can’t.

“If they were to get rid of him, Emery might as well leave. What’s the point selling all the young talent? How is he supposed to build?”

Former Tottenham and Villa senior scout, Mick Brown, has also given his take on the situation and has claimed that Emery wants to keep Rogers.

Brown told Football Insider: “Morgan Rogers would be an ambitious move for Tottenham.

“The main thing with Villa at the moment, there are those financial issues hanging over them.

“They haven’t been able to spend big, so they want to keep the players they have got, and that will direct Morgan Rogers’ future and whether they let him go.

“He’s done really well at Villa so it’s no surprise there is interest in him.

“I’m told Tottenham have spoken to Villa about whether he might be available.

“Unai Emery wants to keep him, he’s one of his better players so that’s a given really.

“Spurs feel they can get a deal done, but if they do it certainly won’t be cheap.

“We know Tottenham need to replace Maddison, and they definitely see Rogers as somebody who can fill that attacking midfield role.

“Whether Villa will be open to a deal isn’t clear, I expect probably not, but Tottenham look like they’re going to try so we’ll see.”

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has told Football Insider that Rogers would be a ‘dream signing’ for Tottenham, adding that Villa would demand a huge fee.

Sources have told TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, that Villa will not sell Rogers for anything less than £80million (€92.5m, $108m).

O’Rourke said: “It’s quite similar [to Savinho].

“Obviously, he’d be a dream signing for Tottenham, if they could land someone like Morgan Rogers – there’s a lot of admiration there and he’d tick a lot of boxes.

“Unai Emery’s been restricted in the transfer market, so he won’t really want to lose one of his star players, his prize asset, and there’s no doubt that Morgan Rogers is that.

“It would be a huge transfer fee for Aston Villa to even consider selling him.”

Latest Tottenham news: Kobbie Mainoo response, midfielder bid

A Manchester City star is ‘tempted’ by the prospect of joining Tottenham before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1, but AC Milan are lurking.

Tottenham are ready to bid for a midfielder they tried to sign from Chelsea last summer, as the north London outfit are keen to reinforce their squad in an attempt to have a successful 2025/26 campaign.

Sources have told TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Dean Jones, the response that Manchester United have given to Tottenham after they enquired about a deal for Kobbie Mainoo.

Tottenham 'ready to bid' to bring former Chelsea star back to Premier League - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham are reportedly ‘ready to bid’ for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher and won’t ‘give up’ on the player they failed to sign a year ago.

Spurs look likely to have a very busy end to the summer window. Fabrizio Romano essentially confirmed as much when he revealed contact had been made for the signings of Lucas Paqueta and Antoine Semenyo.

Since then, it’s been revealed that Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons.

But with Yves Bissouma leaving the club, and Simons more of an advanced midfielder, another deeper-lying man is being eyed.

According to a report from Spains outlet AS, Tottenham are ‘ready to bid’ for Atletico Madrid midfielder Gallagher ‘in the coming hours’.

The report also states that Spurs are ‘not giving up’ on his signing.

However, it’s been suggested that Atletico will not allow the midfielder – who has played 52 games and been directly involved in 10 goals – to leave.

Spurs failed to land Gallagher last year

Chelsea looked for a while in 2024 like they were willing to sell Gallagher, and that came to fruition with a move to Atletico.

The Blues essentially sold him as his transfer fee went down as pure profit on their books.

Tottenham were the main English club interested in signing Gallagher, and at the time, TEAMtalk were aware they were hopeful of landing him for £30million.

Atletico paid slightly above that, at £34million, and it’s not clear what Spurs will bid for Gallagher a year down the line.

Tottenham round-up: Three Man City moves possible

Following the signing of Simons, Tottenham are looking to Manchester City for a few players.

Their interest in Savinho is well documented, despite the fact it’s not known if they’ll be able to land him.

But reports have now stated they have approached the Citizens for defender Manuel Akanji.

That comes after it was reported Spurs had opened talks with City over Nathan Ake, in an attempt to find out if that transfer would be possible.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have explored the possibility of signing Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, sources have told TEAMtalk, with initial contacts understood to have taken place on Thursday.

Mainoo is frustrated with his role at Man Utd and is open to leaving Old Trafford in order to secure more regular minutes.

Tottenham have moved quickly to open the door, believing he could flourish under manager Thomas Frank’s set-up.

As TEAMtalk reported on August 27, Man Utd’s preference is to keep Mainoo at Old Trafford.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Man Utd officials are reluctant to sanction any departure, instead wanting him to work his way into manager Ruben Amorim’s side to earn a new contract.

That stance was reiterated on Thursday, even as Tottenham sensed an opportunity.

The challenge for Spurs will be whether Mainoo can persuade United to change their position.

Sources suggest Tottenham are willing to move to the front of the queue if a breakthrough comes, with the belief that they can provide the right platform to get his career back on track.

Mainoo has come through the Man Utd youth system and has established himself in the first-team squad.

The 20-year-old has made 73 appearances for Man Utd so far in his career, scoring seven goals and giving three assists in the process.

However, Mainoo is not guaranteed a place in the Man Utd starting line-up under Amorim.

The youngster, who has played 10 times for England since making his Three Lions debut in 2024, is in direct competition with Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes for a starting spot in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Mainoo did not feature in either of Man Utd’s opening Premier League matches, but the midfielder did play all 90 minutes of the Carabao Cup tie defeat to Grimsby Town.

Latest Tottenham news: Double Man City raid, swap deal

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Tottenham are pushing to get a deal done for a Brazilian star after striking an agreement with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons.

Tottenham are planning a double raid on Manchester City, with the north London club having also asked about a defender who could leave the Cityzens in the final days of the summer transfer window.

A swap deal between Tottenham and West Ham United for a playmaker has been mooted, but it may not be possible now.

Tottenham Hotspur have not completely pulled away from a deal for Savinho, despite suggestions this week that the north London club’s interest in the Manchester City winger is over, sources have told TEAMtalk.

Sources has told TEAMtalk that Tottenham have kept contact lines open with Man City in case the situation could be revived.

The view inside Spurs is that they have little to lose by trying again for Savinho, even if the decision ultimately lies with Man City.

The stance has been that Man City do not want to sell the Brazil international winger – and that does ring true.

However, there is a suspicion among Tottenham officials that Man City have continued to explore potential replacements for Savinho, leaving open the possibility of a sale.

Crucially, Tottenham are also convinced that the player himself wants the move, which has encouraged them to keep pushing.

A deal remains tough, and as of Thursday night, there had been no breakthrough, but Spurs were making progress elsewhere.

Talks with RB Leipzig over Xavi Simons accelerated on Wednesday, giving them real hope of hijacking Chelsea’s pursuit.

In the early hours of Friday, Tottenham agreed a £52million (€60m, $70m) fee with Leipzig for one of Europe’s most exciting young playmakers.

If Spurs were to add Simons and could also somehow prise Savinho away from City, it would mark a dramatic turnaround in a transfer window that had threatened to frustrate.

Tottenham confident of beating Chelsea to star transfer after meeting - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham are confident that they will be able to land a star Chelsea target after intensifying their efforts to land him with a meeting, TEAMtalk can reveal.

The late stages of the summer window could be action packed for Spurs. Fabrizio Romano has revealed it could be a busy time for them, as he revealed they’d made contact for Antoine Semenyo and Lucas Paqueta.

TEAMtalk have since learned that Spurs are pressing ahead to now try to sign Xavi Simons, in a dramatic twist given he has been on Chelsea’s radar all summer, and sources have stated the RB Leipzig man has “made it clear” he’d rather land there.

But after a meeting in London about the potential signing for Tottenham, there has been a twist.

Indeed, TEAMtalk sources now state the north London club are confident that they will land Simons.

With Chelsea having stuttered and been unable to agree a deal with Leipzig throughout the summer, Tottenham are willing to match the German club’s £60million valuation, and could well end up securing Simons for that.

Simons ‘will be a success’

Sky Germany‘s Dennis Bayer has stated there wherever Simons lands, be it Tottenham or Chelsea, he will “be a success.”

Bayer feels Simons is “like a magician” with the ball at his feet, and when his mind is in the right place he can be a fantastic asset.

“If he doesn’t want to play, if he is not in the mood to play he just disappears,” Bayer said.

“If he comes to the Premier League and has fun to play, he’s going to be a great player who has to adapt to the physicality in this league and has to get his mind clear, and then he’s going to be outstanding.

“If not, he’s going to be a bust, but I’m pretty sure that he will rock the Premier League.”

Tottenham round-up: Spurs in talks for Man City pair

Tottenham have reportedly opened talks with Manchester City over whether they’d be able to sign defender Nathan Ake.

At the same time, they are continuing talks for Savinho, though it’s believed the winger will be a tough signing to make.

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed Spurs and West Ham held talks over the potential loan swap of Lucas Paqueta and Yves Bissouma, though the talks did not go very far.

Bissouma is now going to join Galatasaray on loan, with the Turkish club obligated to buy him next summer.

Tottenham hold talks for TWO Man City players with shock approach for experienced defender - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have reportedly held discussions with Manchester City to see if they would be able to lure an experienced defender away from them.

Spurs have added Premier League experience to their ranks this summer. Mohammed Kudus was a star at West Ham, both Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso played on loan for Tottenham last season, and prior to moving to his last side Bayern Munich, Joao Palhinha was one of the most destructive midfielders in England.

But coming into the final days of the window, Spurs want to add more players who have succeeded in the Premier League.

They are still hopeful of landing Savinho, have made contact for Antoine Semenyo and Lucas Paqueta, and it’s now been revealed Nathan Ake is in their sights.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham have held discussions with Manchester City to discover what it would take to land the Dutch defender, who has played 236 Premier League games in his career, across four clubs.

Indeed, they want to add another defensive presence to their side and saw last weekend’s victory over City as an opportunity to hold discussions over whether they’d be able to get Ake.

Thomas Frank is said to be a firm admirer of the Dutchman, though it’s not known what City’s answer was to the Tottenham approach.

Savinho talks held with City

The face-to-face meeting following the 2-0 victory at City was not just for Tottenham to see if they could sign Ake, but also in regards to the potential signing of Savinho.

Tottenham have been keen on him for weeks, but the report states they face an uphill battle to secure his signature.

TEAMtalk has reported during the saga that the Brazilian is open to a move to Spurs.

However, sources also state City do not want to see Savinho go, so Tottenham’s chances of landing him seem slim.

Tottenham round-up: Swap talks revealed

It’s been revealed that earlier in August, Tottenham held talks with West Ham over a straight loan swap involving Lucas Paqueta and Yves Bissouma.

However, discussions did not get very far, and Bissouma is now moving to Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, another swap deal, this time with Newcastle and including Tottenham striker Richarlison, has been played down by Fabrizio Romano.

And, TEAMtalk is aware Xavi Simons has held talks over a potential move to Spurs, despite being more open to a transfer to London rivals Chelsea.

Tottenham given 'big boost' after blockbuster talks for Prem rival swap deal - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham talks with a Premier League rival about a swap deal for one of their biggest stars has been revealed, as a report has stated Spurs have received a ‘big boost’.

The north London club are continuing to attempt to improve their squad. The work they have done so far has clearly gone well, given they have won both games so far, including a 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Two of their six summer signings – Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha – have had a direct hand in goals in those victories.

And there was a chance that Kudus could have been joined at Tottenham by former West Ham team-mate Lucas Paqueta.

TBRFootball reports that amid Spurs’ interest in him, and the Hammers’ interest in Yves Bissouma, the two clubs held talks over what would have been a straight loan swap for the midfielders.

However, talks did not progress to the finer details.

Tottenham are still said to be watching Paqueta, but have no plans to follow up with a deal for the Brazilian midfielder.

Tottenham get big boost

In any case, the report has suggested Tottenham’s transfer plans have received a ‘big boost’.

That’s as Bissouma has agreed to join Galatasaray on loan with an obligation for them to buy him next summer.

That frees up space in the Tottenham midfield, and in a year’s time, the money will come in.

And while the report has stated there are no immediate plans to go after Paqueta, Fabrizio Romano has revealed recent contact for his transfer.

He said: “In the last 24/48 hours, Tottenham also made some calls for other players. They wanted to understand the situation of Lucas Paqueta at West Ham.

“Also a player they appreciate and they know very well, and was already a target, but now, obviously, it’s late in the market, so it’s going to be difficult, is [Antoine] Semenyo at Bournemouth. Another name mentioned internally at Tottenham in the last 24 hours, then soon it’s going to be time to decide.

“Soon is going to be the time to make final decisions, attack and go for these new signings. But for sure, Tottenham will be busy again on the market. It’s not over at all. So they are optimistic to find the solutions they want.”

Tottenham round-up: Spurs still have Savinho belief

Tottenham have spent the last few weeks attempting to secure a move for Manchester City winger Savinho.

While they are adamant about keeping him, the winger himself is said to be hopeful of the move going through, giving some encouragement to Spurs.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has downplayed reports of a Tottenham and Newcastle swap for Richarlison, and stated the Brazilian is “very happy” at his current club.

And, Tottenham are pressing ahead with interest in Xavi Simons, as per TEAMtalk sources, holding a meeting about his signing, despite the RB Leipzig man favouring a move to Chelsea.

Savinho stance gives Tottenham hope as Man City star still pushing for move - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been given hope that a blocked move for Manchester City winger Savinho could still happen before the summer transfer window closes, despite Etihad transfer chiefs completely blocking the switch.

City have reiterated to Spurs and the player himself that a deal will not be allowed to go through before Monday’s deadline despite the fact that fresh talks had been held, leaving Savinho quietly confident that he could be on the way to north London.

It’s reported that from a financial standpoint, City are under no pressure to sell Savinho, and with little time left to land a quality replacement, the matter was considered closed.

However, the Brazilian attacker has been left unhappy with the decision and made that stance very clear to City, according to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Bailey states that Savinho remains ‘really keen’ on joining Tottenham and still holds out some hope it could happen before the deadline – despite City‘s current stance.

For their part, Tottenham remain keen on a deal but have also started assessing alternative options, in the likely event that Savinho is forced to stay put.

Speaking about the winger’s situation, Bailey revealed: “City’s hierarchy’s stance was always the same with Savinho; they did not want him to leave. Yes, they showed an interest in Rodrygo, but it was always difficult, and they maintained their stance on Savinho.

“However, I am told that Savinho really wanted the Spurs move and still does; the window remains open until Monday, and he hopes the deal could happen.

“Spurs will remain attentive to the situation, should they get any encouragement; however, they have also made it clear to Savinho they are moving forward with other targets too.”

Given City’s strong stance over the player, it might still be a massive push to get Savinho on board by Monday’s deadline.

However, the fact the winger remains adamant that he wants the switch to north London does offer slim hope that a big-money transfer could still get the green light.

Fabrizio Romano delivers major update on proposed Tottenham, Newcastle swap deal ahead of deadline day - TEAMtalk
Description

Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update on reports that Tottenham Hotspur could be ready to swap in-form striker Richarlison for a Newcastle United star in the closing days of the summer transfer window.

Spurs are looking to bring in two or three more players to bolster Thomas Frank’s squad before Monday’s deadline, with a winger, a N0.10, a new centre-back and potentially another striker all on the club’s radar.

However, Tottenham are also looking to offload players and are close to giving the green light to exits for Yves Bissouma and highly-rated young centre-back Luka Vuskovic.

Continued rumours of an exit for Richarlison also refuse to go away, despite his impressive start to the new campaign, with the Brazilian getting the nod over Dominic Solanke in the first two Premier League outings of the campaign.

The 28-year-old was mentioned as a potential last-minute makeweight in the proposed deal for Eberechi Eze, as Spurs looked to fend off Arsenal’s late hijack of that deal – a proposal that hit the buffers and potentially could have caused some dissension in Frank’s first-team squad as a result.

You would not have known it, though, as Richarlison put in another strong performance in the outstanding win at Manchester City last weekend, as Frank’s honeymoon period in north London continues.

However, Newcastle‘s desperation to sign a new No.9, given Alexander Isak’s continued high-profile absence and the decision to let Callum Wilson walk away, has reportedly seen them try their luck with Richarlison – having so far failed in bids for Yoane Wissa and Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Romano spoke about Newcastle’s interest in the ‘Men In Blazers’ podcast, although there was no actual mention of which St James’ Park star could have been involved in any proposed swap.

Speaking on the podcast, Romano said: “Look, every summer we have rumours about Richarlison leaving. Every transfer window, January, summer, is always about that.

“But then it’s never close because the player is very happy at Tottenham and I’m hearing that Thomas Frank is also very happy with him.

“So I’m not sure he’s leaving. I also heard some rumours about a Newcastle player maybe being included in some deal. But I’m told that this is not the case.

“Richarlison is very happy at Tottenham. I see him staying and I see Tottenham signing two players up front before the end of the season, but not losing Richarlison.”

Frank clear on Richarlison future

Spurs boss Frank recently made it clear that Richarlison is fully focused on playing for Tottenham.

It’s a big year for the Brazilian ahead of the World Cup and he would be devastated if he were not included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad next summer

When speaking in the run-up to Spurs’ victory over City, Frank made it clear that Richarlison was a player he was keen to work with, and the feeling was reciprocated.

Speaking at his press conference, Frank said: “Day one he came in and knocked on my door and said ‘I want to stay’.

“I said good, I like you, I think you’re a good player, perfect, let’s crack on.

“He’s been working very hard, very committed, gym, on the pitch, he has trained every session. There was one game we took him out of because of the injury history.

“We know we need to be very aware of that to build him, thin layers, one step at a time, taking good decisions, do our best to try to take good decisions, but I see a very committed player.”

Tottenham hijack ON as meeting scheduled to beat Chelsea to Xavi Simons signing – sources - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are pressing ahead with their quest to sign Xavi Simons, with sources revealing to TEAMtalk that a meeting with the RB Leipzig star’s agents is imminent, as Chelsea get a major boost in their pursuit of the Dutch star.

After struggling to make an impact at Paris Saint-Germain, Simons has established himself as one of the best young attacking players in Europe at RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old has demonstrated his versatility by playing in attacking midfield and as a winger for the German club.

Simons has scored 22 goals and given 24 assists in 78 appearances for Leipzig so far in his career. The Netherlands international’s former Leipzig team-mate, Dani Olmo, described him as “a really complete player” who “has an amazing dribbling technique” on the German club’s official website in February 2024.

Chelsea have long been keen on a summer deal for Simons, but sources have told TEAMtalk that London rivals Tottenham are now making their moves to convince the youngster to switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead.

TEAMtalk understands that in a dramatic twist to the summer transfer saga, Simons has touched down in London, intensifying efforts to secure a high-profile move before the window slams shut on September 1.

Known for his creativity and goal-scoring prowess, Simons is at the center of a tug-of-war between Chelsea and Tottenham.

Simons, who scored 11 goals and gave eight assists in 33 appearances last season, has already expressed his desire to join Chelsea.

An insider has disclosed to TEAMtalk: “He’s made it clear to the club that Stamford Bridge is his preferred destination.”

Although this personal endorsement could prove pivotal in swaying the deal, Tottenham are not backing down.

Under manager Thomas Frank, Tottenham view Simons as the ideal addition to their attacking midfield, offering dynamism that is missing following James Maddison’s long-term knee injury and Son Heung-min’s departure to Los Angeles FC.

The north London club is scheduled to meet with Simons’ representatives imminently, armed with a willingness to match Leipzig’s £60million ((€69m, $81m) valuation.

“Tottenham are very keen and prepared to pay the asking price,” a source familiar with the talks confirmed to TEAMtalk.

Ask me anything! 📌 Dean Jones will be answering your questions TODAY between 2pm and 3pm BST. Send in your questions now here.

Chelsea still a major threat to Tottenham for Xavi Simons – sources

Even though Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is willing to splash the cash to get a deal done for Simons, last season’s Europa League winners remain acutely aware of the player’s leanings towards Chelsea, which could complicate proceedings.

Sources close to the negotiations have also told TEAMtalk that Chelsea’s interest in Simons has surged in recent days,

Bolstered by the impending departure of Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan, Chelsea believe that they now have the funds to seal a deal for Simons.

Nkunku’s imminent €45m (£39m, $52.5m) switch to Milan has freed up funds and squad space at Stamford Bridge, making the Blues more optimistic about landing their target.

Leipzig, eager to capitalise on Simons’ rising, have set a firm £60m (€69m, $81m) price tag—deemed sufficient to finalise any agreement.

Latest Tottenham news: Nico Paz ‘promise’, Man Utd winger offered

Real Madrid have made a ‘promise’ to Nico Paz, as Los Blancos aim to stop Tottenham from signing the Como and Argentina international attacking midfielder before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

A Manchester United outcast has been offered to Tottenham, who have learnt Manchester City’s final decision on Savinho.

Tottenham are in talks to land a midfielder who once came very close to join the north London outfit, with his current club now desperate to offload him.
