Tottenham taking potentially huge risk as immediate Igor Tudor sack decision made - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to work through their managerial options as they look to appoint a permanent successor to interim boss Igor Tudor, who TEAMtalk understands has escaped the sack, for now.

Sources have informed us that Spurs are unlikely to make any immediate decision on Tudor’s faltering tenure and are expected to wait until after their Premier League clash with Liverpool before pushing ahead with the next stage of their plans.

The north London side face a demanding run of fixtures and those inside the club view the upcoming period as crucial in shaping the direction of the team for the remainder of the season.

Tottenham’s clash with Nottingham Forest – which comes a week after their visit to Anfield – is viewed internally as one of their most important matches in the current campaign, as they battle to ensure they move clear of the relegation danger.

Indeed, we understand the club’s hierarchy are preparing to remove Tudor in the near future as part of their efforts to stabilise results and steer the team away from the threat of relegation.

Behind the scenes, Spurs are continuing to carry out extensive work on potential candidates.

Sources say the club are “working hard”, assessing a range of options as they consider who could succeed the former Juventus boss.

As previously revealed, former Tottenham legend Robbie Keane is among the names under consideration. The club hold Keane in high regard and his connection with Spurs makes him an intriguing option as discussions continue internally.

Other managers are also being explored. Roberto De Zerbi is understood to be admired by figures within the club, although sources indicate he is less enthusiastic about the prospect of stepping into an interim situation before the end of the season.

As a result, Tottenham’s hierarchy are carefully weighing up their next move while allowing Tudor to continue overseeing first-team duties during this key run of fixtures.

While no final decision has yet been made, it is clear the club are actively working behind the scenes as they look to identify the right candidate capable of steadying the ship and guiding Spurs away from relegation danger.

Tottenham backed to appoint ‘perfect’ manager Spurs fans will hate with Tudor sack ‘close’ - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham are reportedly ‘close’ to sacking Igor Tudor and pundit Darren Bent has backed the club to swallow their pride and appoint a manager who their fans will hate, but who’ll guarantee survival.

Tottenham are in dire straits right now and staring down the barrel of a first relegation since 1977. They sit just one point above the drop zone, and the arrival of Igor Tudor – slated as a survival specialist – has not had the intended effect.

The Croatian has overseen three successive defeats since taking charge, and there’s growing talk another managerial change will be made as Spurs begin to panic.

TEAMtalk have been told former Spurs striker, Robbie Keane, is on standby and keen to answer the call if the phone rings.

What’s more, the latest from Football Insider on Monday claimed Tudor is ‘close’ to being relieved of his duties.

But while Keane is very much the frontrunner to step in if a change is made, former Tottenham striker Bent believes Sean Dyche should get the nod.

Dyche is readily available having been sacked by Nottingham Forest last month. He’s built up a well-earned reputation as a manager who’ll get a club back to basics, firm up a leaky defence, and grind out positive results.

What’s more, Dyche has proven in the past that he can achieve those aims almost immediately after walking through the door.

Of course, there is a stigma attached to Dyche, with the veteran Englishman viewed as one of, if not the least sexy appointment there is.

But in Bent’s mind, Tottenham need to swallow their pride, and given the ultimate aim is to retain their Premier League status, it’ll be far more embarrassing to go down than it’ll be to hire Dyche for three months.

“If you genuinely believe and sense that Tudor’s not the right man and he’s not getting anything out of the players, then you almost just walk into relegation,” Bent told talkSPORT.

He added: “Regardless if people are laughing at you now, come the end of the season, you want to hope you’re still in the Premier League, because if you’re not, that would be the biggest laugh.

“They need a manager that’s going to go in there and just make them organised and hard to beat.

“And as I said, for the next couple of weeks, it might be horrible to watch, but if you’re nicking 1-0’s, getting draws, picking up points, [it] doesn’t matter.

“Sean Dyche, right now, for me would be the perfect man for Tottenham. Because one thing he can do is get teams organised, hard to beat.

“I get it, Spurs fans might not want that, but at some point you’ve got to go, ‘Do you know what? We just need someone who’s going to keep us up.'”

Ben concluded: “You just need someone who’s going to steady the ship and make you hard to beat.

“There’s no point getting someone in there that plays all this attractive football, get you on the front foot – because you’re too easy to play against.”

Barcelona threaten to shatter long-term Tottenham plan as insider confirms talks for star - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham could be in trouble of losing another star in a crucial position as Barcelona have reportedly opened talks with the representatives of one talent at the club.

Spurs are at a very important juncture in their history. They are teetering just above the Premier League relegation zone, and the drop would be catastrophic.

There are reports that some of their very best players are looking to leave the club, with centre-back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven seemingly edging their way out.

A new centre-back duo would be needed if the crucial pair were to leave, and Luka Vuskovic – who has been impressing out on loan with Hamburg – would likely be brought back into the mix.

He is under contract with Tottenham until 2030, and the 19-year-old’s father recently suggested he might be happy with staying in Germany for another year.

Spurs might like to have him in their ranks if they lose their starters, and they know he’ll be a star for years to come, but there might now be a question of whether Vuskovic would actually want to return to his parent club.

He has other options, with Sky Sport Germany insider Florian Plettenberg reporting Barcelona have held ‘initial talks’ with the centre-back’s representatives.

There is believed to be a clear desire at Barca to strengthen the centre-back ranks immediately, and it therefore seems they feel Vuskovic is ready to play for a huge club.

Vuskovic has many suitors

TEAMtalk is aware that Barca are one of the clubs who want to land Vuskovic.

However, with their well-known financial difficulties, we believe they are most likely to look for more cost-effective options. With four years left on his deal and a good season in the Bundesliga under his belt, Vuskovic should cost a good sum of money.

In any case, there are big clubs wanting to keep the young defender in Germany.

Sources have told us that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are among the big clubs hopeful of taking Vuskovic on board.

Tottenham round-up: Door opening for Van de Ven exit

Van de Ven’s exit could be coming, with insider Pete O’Rourke suggesting he might look for the door.

He said: “He’s not rushing into signing any new contract at Tottenham, and has delayed contract talks there. That might open the door for clubs to make offers for him this summer, and I’m sure Spurs are well aware of that.”

Meanwhile, recently-appointed boss Igor Tudor is said to be ‘close’ to being given the boot already, with Robbie Keane keen on taking the job at Spurs.

And Harry Redknapp fears the worst for his former club in their fight for Premier League survival.

He said: “But Tottenham are bang in it now, must be truthful. They’re looking like they could even be favourites out the four to go, it’s that desperate.”

'Door open' for Van de Ven to walk through as insider reveals Tottenham star's thoughts - TEAMtalk
Description

An insider has detailed the feelings of Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven in regards to whether he will stay at the club and potentially sign a new deal amid a tough period in north London.

Spurs are the worst form team in the Premier League at the moment. After a semi-promising start, they have fallen off a cliff and find themselves just a single point above the relegation zone.

Their plight has seen Thomas Frank sacked and reports suggest pressure is ramping up on his replacement, Igor Tudor.

Should Tottenham be relegated from the Premier League, it will be catastrophic, with the big-six team surely losing a lot of talent from their ranks.

Cristian Romero looks almost certain to leave in the summer and centre-back partner Van de Ven might well follow.

Insider Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider: “Obviously, there’s a chance if Tottenham don’t qualify for Europe, some of their best players will be looking to move on.

“Van de Ven is no different. It wouldn’t be an easy deal to prise him out of Tottenham because he’s under contract until 2029 and has been the captain in Romero’s absence. He’s such a key player for Tottenham, but it’s been a disappointing season and the players are not happy with where they find themselves right now as well.

“So it’s no surprise that other clubs are monitoring his situation.

“If Spurs were to get relegated, you would imagine Van de Ven would be among a number of players who’d be seeking a move out of Tottenham.

“He’s not rushing into signing any new contract at Tottenham, and has delayed contract talks there. That might open the door for clubs to make offers for him this summer, and I’m sure Spurs are well aware of that.”

Big clubs after Van de Ven

Real Madrid have been linked with Van de Ven for some time, while Liverpool are one of the other big clubs said to be keen on him.

TEAMtalk is aware that the Reds, and rivals Manchester United, are monitoring the situation of the Tottenham centre-back.

Sources have also told us that Van de Ven is seriously weighing up his options.

Contract talks have held up with Tottenham prioritising surviving the drop, and that leaves the defender’s long-term future up in the air, perhaps allowing another club to convince him through the door.

Tottenham round-up: Tudor sack close

Reports have suggested that Spurs are ‘close’ to sacking interim boss Tudor after only a few games in charge.

Robbie Keane is believed to be the leading candidate to take his place in the dugout.

Reports elsewhere have suggested that Tottenham have opened talks with Roberto De Zerbi.

And former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp feels the club are one of the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Igor Tudor SACK 'close' as second source names Tottenham's most likely replacement after De Zerbi talks - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ‘close’ to sacking head coach Igor Tudor, while we have revealed who is likely to be his replacement.

Tudor is only three games into his stint in charge of Spurs, but there is already growing speculation that he is on borrowed time at the Premier League giants.

Tottenham’s relegation fears have increased during a troubling week as they are now only one point clear of the bottom three, with the appointment of Tudor yet to spark any improvement.

After deserved losses against Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace, Football Insider are reporting that the Spurs boss is ‘close’ to being sacked and could only have the next three matches against Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest to save himself from the axe.

We informed you on Friday that the relegation candidates were assessing Tudor’s position at the club, while club legend Robbie Kobbie has ’emerged as the leading candidate’ to replace him.

Keane has been working wonders at Hungarian side Ferencvaros and is likely a far more plausible appointment for Spurs than Roberto De Zerbi after they reportedly opened talks with the former Marseille chief. And talkSPORT have since reported that Keane is ‘keen on the job’,

Spurs urged to give Sean Dyche a call

Tottenham’s situation is looking bleaker by the day and may soon be left with little choice but to bring in a character like Dyche to galvanise the squad.

And former Spurs striker Darren Bent has explained to talkSPORT why he thinks Dyche is the best fit for Spurs at the moment.

Bent said: “They need a manager that’s going to go in there and just make them organised and hard to beat.

Latest Spurs news: Redknapp lays into Spurs as players look to jump ship

Ex-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has also given a scathing assessment of his former side’s chances of survival, while the odds have been slashed on him making a shock return.

Regardless of whether Spurs go down this season, there will inevitably be notable exits from the club in the summer and one star is attracting interest from Juventus.

Former Tottenham boss gives stunning relegation verdict as odds are SLASHED on unthinkable scenario - TEAMtalk
Description

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes his old club are now favourites to be relegated alongside Wolves and Burnley from the Premier League, while also dismissing the chances of the club calling upon his services for another rescue act.

The north London outfit are now just one point above the relegation zone following their 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Thursday evening, a result which means interim boss Igor Tudor has now lost all three of his games since replacing Thomas Frank last month.

In the aftermath of the loss to Palace, a section of Tottenham fans actually called for the club to bring Redknapp back for a second stint, despite the 79-year-old now being in a dugout since 2017.

Judging by the empty seats at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the second half of the Palace loss, it appears that most fans have already had enough of Tudor, as current form suggests relegation is almost a given.

Tottenham’s odds have now been slashed to as low as 13/8 with some bookmakers, and many even believe Spurs are likelier to go down than the two teams currently below them in Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

Indeed, bookies have now slashed the price on Spurs dropping to the second tier of English football for the first time since the 1970s.

And speaking to talkSPORT about the club’s current predicament, Redknapp said: “Four or five weeks ago I really couldn’t see Tottenham being involved in a relegation scrap.

“Every week has gone by it’s got worse. West Ham are now playing very well which is great, Forest picked up a big point the other night, the only other side getting sucked in now is Leeds, they’ve got sucked into that battle as well, I thought they were clear because they’ve had a good season, played ever so well.

“But Tottenham are bang in it now, must be truthful. They’re looking like they could even be favourites out the four to go, it’s that desperate.”

Redknapp gives verdict on Tudor

When asked about Tudor’s rather blunt assessment of Tottenham’s poor performances after their defeats, Redknapp replied: “I mean, I don’t know the man. He’s been around a long time, he’s managed at top clubs. He looks a bit of a hard nut, doesn’t he? He looks like you wouldn’t want to have a mess about with him, for sure.

“But I don’t know if that is the approach. I think that confidence obviously is low. They go out when they play at home, it seems that they they’ve not performed and they need a bit of confidence. They need a bit of belief in the team.

“They look to me like they need a arm round, have a little chat individually with every player and get them get them on side and make them start believing, ‘look go out and as best you can, try and enjoy playing football’, because at the moment they do they do look a bundle of nerves. They really do look on edge, which is dangerous.

“West Ham made a couple of signings, Summerville’s come back from injury and he’s absolutely flying, him and Bowen together in the side, they’ve got a centre-forward now. West Ham are starting to believe, their crowd are amazing, they’ll stay with them. I could see them getting themselves out of trouble. They did look dead and buried five weeks ago.

“Forest are picking up one or two results, they got some decent players, they played three at the back the other night, looked physically strong, they’ll be difficult to beat.

“Leeds don’t deserve to be there, they’ve played very well this year, they had a go in every game, the games you’ve watched where they’ve led and been pegged back last minute don’t seem to have gone their way. But I think I think Forest, you know, got every chance of staying up. So Tottenham are bang in it. There’s absolutely no doubt about that at the moment.”

As for whether Redkapp could return to help the club avoid the drop, he replied: “Of course I would have to, wouldn’t I? But it’s not going to happen.

“No, I can’t see that happening. I think I’ll be at Cheltenham on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.”

Tottenham reach stunning decision on Igor Tudor sack that’ll split opinion - TEAMtalk
Description

After holding discussions on whether to fire Igor Tudor, a report claims Tottenham have decided NOT to sack the under-fire Croatian, and there’s a stunning update on how Spurs proceed from here.

Tudor is yet to pick up a point as interim Spurs boss, with the 47-year-old overseeing three successive defeats so far.

The losing streak has exacerbated fears Tottenham are heading into the Championship. They now sit just one point above the drop zone and in truth, it’s hard to see where their next win – or even draw – is coming from.

TEAMtalk led the way late on Thursday night when sources informed our insider, Graeme Bailey, that emergency talks would be held to determine Tudor’s fate after the Crystal Palace defeat.

Complicating matters for Tudor is the fact Spurs’ hierarchy have already begun to weigh up moves for his successor.

Club icon, Robbie Keane – the current manager of Ferencvaros – is front and centre in their thoughts and he’s understood to be keen to jump ship if given the call.

But according to the latest from talkSPORT, Tottenham are holding their nerve and for now at least, they will not sack Tudor.

What’s more, the report strongly suggested Tudor will get at least two more games to turn the sinking ship around.

Spurs face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League next Tuesday before travelling to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League five days later.

The report stated: ‘Tudor will continue as Tottenham manager for the immediate future, talkSPORT understands.’

They added: ‘While Spurs are reluctant to sack a manger for the second time this season the pressure will continue to grow on Tudor if they lose their upcoming Champions League last 16 first leg tie at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and next Sunday’s Premier League trip to Liverpool.

‘If Spurs did decide Tudor is not the right man then former striker Robbie Keane, currently in charge for Hungarian champion Ferencvaros, is believed to be keen on the job.’

Appointing Keane would immediately get the fans back on side, and Spurs need all the help they can get if they’re to avoid relegation.

Nevertheless, sacking a second manager in quick succession could instil panic in a group of players who already look lost at sea. It would also give off the impression the club don’t know what they’re doing.

Whether sticking by Tudor – who has built up a reputation of being a survival specialist – or sacking the Croatian is the right call will ultimately be determined by results on the pitch.

And so far, all the signs point towards Tottenham going down if they don’t bite the bullet and make another managerial change.

'Drained' Tottenham regular has mentally checked out and already knows next move - report - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s situation is going from bad to worse after reports in Italy claimed one of the club’s most valuable assets has decided he wants out of the club this summer, while TEAMtalk sources led the way last week by claiming the club has already identified a France-based replacement.

A soul-destroying 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday evening means Tottenham Hotspur have now gone 11 games without a Premier League dating back to December 28 – their worst run of form since 1975. That leaves Spurs just a point clear of the relegation zone and in a desperate race for survival, which a growing portion of experts fear they are now losing.

As a result, a first relegation since 1977 – 49 years ago – is now staring the north London giants in the face.

If they are to pull clear of danger, they will need some of their big-name stars to dig deep and lead them to safety, though The Sun on Thursday alleged that one of these in, Guglielmo Vicario, was facing the chop by interim boss Igor Tudor for the clash against the Eagles.

That report ultimately proved inaccurate, though reports in Italy now suggest that Vicario has already mentally checked out at Spurs and is already contemplating a summer return to Italy, having been left ‘drained’ by the club’s ongoing struggles.

Now, according to Tuttosport, Vicario feels he is being left increasingly exposed at Spurs and has been left frustrated by their horrible season that has seen them plummet down the table.

They claim that during the loss on Thursday that the 29-year-old ‘teleported a thousand kilometres’ to Turin during the game, such is his desperation to secure a summer move to Juventus this summer.

The paper also suggests both Inter Milan and AS Roma are keeping a close watch on his situation ahead of the summer window opening for business.

Either way, the report claims that Vicario is certain he wants out, while a suggestion that he has not quite warmed to interim boss Tudor has only added to that exit desire.

DON’T MISS: Pundit rages at four ‘garbage’ Tottenham stars as ‘mockery of a club’ are branded a team of ‘donkeys’

Spurs will not block Vicario exit as replacement is identified

Indeed, TEAMtalk reported last week that Spurs were very much open to the five-times capped Italy goalkeeper’s departure this summer in what is sure to be a summer of change in N17, regardless of what division the club finds itself in.

We understand a fee in the region of €25m to €30m (up to £26m, $34.5m) will be placed on Vicario’s head; a fee that is likely to attract plenty of attention and will not deter his suitors.

And with the money generated from his sale, sources can reveal that Spurs have already been doing their due diligence on several would-be replacements between the sticks.

To that end, our transfer correspondent, Graeme Bailey, exclusively revealed last week that Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, Manchester City’s James Trafford, and Sunderland’s Robin Roefs are among the shot-stoppers attracting attention.

However, the club’s top pick looks increasingly likely to come from France, with Bailey revealing that club scouts have now recommended the signing of Lens’ standout, Robin Risser, has emerged as a very firm option.

Risser, just 21, has been a revelation for Lens this season, playing a pivotal role in their unexpected rise as Ligue 1 title contenders.

His commanding performances have not only caught the eye of Spurs’ scouting and recruitment department but have also put him firmly in the frame for a place in France’s World Cup squad.

Interest in his services, however, remains fierce. Alongside Tottenham, the keeper has also caught Newcastle’s attention after manager Eddie Howe lost faith in Nick Pope and with a decision yet to be made on loanee Aaron Ramsdale.

Nottingham Forest are also keen.

But we understand it is Spurs who are showing the strongest interest at this stage, and with a departure for Vicario seemingly gathering genuine pace, Spurs know they will need to sign a new custodian this summer.

Tottenham latest: Elite young star wants out; Tudor sack; Porro exit claims

Meanwhile, a supremely talented young Spurs defender has become a top target for a number of leading European clubs this season after making a massive impression during his current loan stint in Germany, TEAMtalk can reveal.

In the wake of the club’s struggles, and amid a shock from his agents he has not been handed a chance, a summer departure now also looks increasingly likely after it was made clear he will not drop down to play in the second tier.

Elsewhere, Pedro Porro has apparently come clean on his dream to play for Real Madrid, with the comments coming after his temper-tantrum was observed by a commentator during Thursday’s loss to the Eagles.

Whether interim boss Tudor, who has now overseen three losses in three games, sees out the season remains to be seen.

And according to our information, Tottenham bosses are actively assessing options to replace the Croatian amid what has been described as a fear that the club’s overlords, ENIC, have blundered by appointing him.

With that in mind, a top option to replace him in the dug-out has now been identified.

Tottenham facing catastrophic summer exit as agents weighing up next move for elite talent - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham’s promising young defender Luka Vuskovic is attracting significant attention from across Europe as his impressive loan spell at Hamburg continues, with agents already working on a potential exit as relegation fears heighten at the north London club.

The 19-year-old Croatian centre-back, currently thriving in the Bundesliga, has become a prime target for several top clubs, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund showing keen interest.

His form and performances have been so good, there is surprise amongst sources that Tottenham have not tried to break his loan and bring him into their side – especially given the injuries and suspension issues they have endured this season.

Barcelona have also entered the fray, holding initial talks with Vuskovic‘s representatives, as manager Hansi Flick seeks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the summer window.

However, sources indicate that the Catalan side would prioritise more cost-effective options from the free-agent market, given their ongoing financial considerations, rather than committing to a potentially expensive deal for the Tottenham talent.

Vuskovic, who stands at an imposing 6ft 4in, joined Spurs from Hajduk Split in 2023 and has since developed rapidly during his time in Germany.

He has featured prominently for Hamburg, making over 20 appearances this season, scoring four goals, and demonstrating composure on the ball alongside strong aerial ability and duel-winning capabilities.

Tottenham facing devastating relegation consequences

The current situation at Tottenham is what adds further uncertainty to his future.

Spurs are languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table after 29 matches, having collected just 29 points from a possible 87, and are in a serious battle to avoid dropping down into English football’s second tier.

Insiders suggest that should Tottenham suffer relegation to the Championship – a scenario that would mark their first drop to the second tier in 49 years– Vuskovic would be keen to secure regular football in a top division. This preference could make him more open to moves away from north London.

Bayern view the youngster as a potential long-term addition to their backline, while Dortmund see him fitting into their philosophy of investing in youthful, high-potential talent.

Other names like Real Madrid have also been linked, although that has been played down and Tottenham remain adamant that Vuskovic forms part of their future plans, with his contract extending until 2030.

Hamburg are also pushing for an extension of the loan arrangement, but Spurs’ hierarchy appear determined to reintegrate him into the first-team fold next season.

However, with Tottenham in real trouble and Vuskovic continuing to impress, the door could open for a move away from the club this summer.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro has revealed his dream to play for Real Madrid, as the situation at the north London club goes from bad to worse following the defeat to Crystal Palace.

Porro has been on the books of Tottenham since 2023 and is under contract at the Premier League club until the summer of 2028. The 26-year-old has made 141 appearances for Spurs so far in his career, scoring 11 goals and providing 25 assists in the process.

The Spurs star had been linked with Real Madrid in previous years, but those suggestions have cooled, with Los Blancos signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in the summer of 2025.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to be the number one right-back for Madrid for years to come and is a better player than Porro.

While Dani Carvajal could leave Madrid at the end of the season, it is unlikely that the Spanish and European giants will pay a lot of money to get Porro this summer.

However, that has not stopped the Tottenham star from revealing his desire to play for (arguably?) the biggest club in the world.

Porro is quoted as saying by Cadena SER when asked about playing for Real Madrid: “When you’re little, you dream about a lot of things, but day to day I focus on my reality, and when you think about playing for the best teams in the world, you know you still have things to improve.”

Pedro Porro slammed during Tottenham defeat to Crystal Palace

Porro’s comments about playing for Madrid come amid Tottenham’s crisis deepening.

Tottenham lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and are now just a point above the Premier League bottom three.

Porro started the London derby and was substituted in the 74th minute, much to his displeasure.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Joe Hart was following the match for TNT Sports, and he was not impressed with Porro’s reaction to being taken off by Spurs manager Igor Tudor.

Hart told TNT Sports: “He has smashed everything on the bench. He gave the fourth official a real earful. It was a real head loss.”

The pundit added: “He’s obviously an emotional character; you can’t put it on. There’s fire that runs through him, and that’s probably when he gets the best out of himself.

“But you’ve got to also control that. He’s such an important player for Tottenham, and he has to set an example in these difficult times.

“It’s one thing that surprised me under Thomas Frank, that it has seemed like chaos ensues all the time. Emotional decisions are being made all over the pitch. You do need players like that in your squad, but the best squads have the best balance.

“They’re able to check each other when someone is losing it. You need someone in the team able to give you a slap and say, ‘calm down, we’ve got big moments ahead, it’s not about you’.”
