Tottenham urged to beat Liverpool and sign ‘excellent’ 172-goal striker in bargain deal

Tottenham Hotspur have been told they should consider the shock signing of former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay, with Liverpool also namechecked by an ex-manager.

Depay has had an eventful career, having played for illustrious clubs such as PSV, Man Utd, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. After breaking through at PSV and making a name for himself as one of the most exciting young players in the Eredivisie, Man Utd were convinced to spend £31million to sign him in June 2015.

However, the centre-forward, who can also play as a left winger, failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. He managed only seven goals and five assists in 53 matches for Man Utd before being sold to Lyon in January 2017.

Man Utd had become so frustrated with Depay that they let him leave for an initial fee of just £14.7m, which had the potential to rise to £21.7m through bonus clauses.

DON’T MISS – Top 10 most expensive Tottenham signings ever: Two future legends mixed with disastrous flops

The Dutchman enjoyed a fantastic spell in France, notching 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 games for Lyon, establishing himself as one of their most important players and proving his ability after failing to do so at Man Utd.

Depay has since had spells in La Liga with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. But he lost his spot in the Barca starting lineup a year after joining when Robert Lewandowski signed, while Atleti – who signed the 30-year-old in January 2023 – recently announced they would not be extending his contract.

Depay is now a free agent, and he has been on the lookout for a new club ever since the Netherlands were knocked out of Euro 2024 by England.

Depay is among several Netherlands players who has been criticised by the country’s media.

Tottenham latest: Memphis Depay swoop predicted

Dick Advocaat, who had three spells in charge of the Netherlands, has now weighed in on Depay’s club situation.

The 76-year-old thinks Depay can become an ‘excellent striker’ if he joins a club like Tottenham. Although, a transfer to Liverpool – a side who might challenge for next season’s Premier League title – would be a step too far.

“If Memphis just goes to a good club, and we’re not talking about Liverpool, then he’s just an excellent striker,” Advocaat said.

When asked to name the specific club Depay should sign for, the pundit added: “Spurs.”

However, Advocaat’s fellow pundit Johan Derksen did not agree. He replied: “No, he can’t keep up at that pace.”

It would be interesting to see how Spurs fans respond, should their club go through with this suggested move for Depay.

As the striker is a free agent, it would be something of a low-risk transfer for Tottenham. Plus, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is known to be on the hunt for a new No 9 to replace Richarlison.

Depay has netted 172 club career goals and has also represented the Netherlands on 98 occasions, which shows he has huge experience at the top level.

His backers will point to his excellent spell with Lyon, whereas more concerned Spurs fans will use the fact he is a Man Utd flop to demonstrate why no such transfer should happen.

Kompany in direct talks with Arsenal, Tottenham target as Bayern go all out for £50m ace

Vincent Kompany has made it his personal mission to help Bayern Munich sign Desire Doue before several Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, it has been revealed.

Despite getting relegated with Burnley last season, Kompany has joined Bayern as their new head coach. The Bundesliga titans paid Burnley around £10million to release Kompany from his contract after failing to convince Thomas Tuchel to complete a U-turn and stay in charge at the Allianz Arena.

Kompany did brilliantly to help Burnley win the Championship title in the 2022-23 season, though it is clear that he is lacking experience at the very top level. Nevertheless, Bayern swooped for the former Manchester City captain as they feel he can follow in Pep Guardiola’s footsteps and become a serial winner.

So far this summer, Bayern have made the deals for Eric Dier and Bryan Zaragoza permanent, while also adding youngsters Armindo Sieb and Nestory Irankunda to their ranks.

DON’T MISS – Riccardo Calafiori: Everything you need to know as Arsenal close in on special defensive talent

But Kompany will be delighted with the three main signings that the Bavarians have brought in. Not only have Bayern won the race for Michael Olise, but they have also finally captured long-term target Joao Palhinha and raided Stuttgart for Hiroki Ito.

Bayern will not stop there, however. According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, who regularly breaks news on Bayern transfers, Kompany is eager to sign Rennes starlet Doue for the club.

The left winger, who can also play as a No 10 or on the right flank, is only 19 years old but has already built up a reputation as one of the best young players in France.

Doue’s exciting performances for Rennes have seen him emerge on the radars of major English clubs. Arsenal were one of the first to be linked, while TEAMtalk revealed on July 2 that Tottenham have made contact over a potential deal.

Arsenal transfers: Bayern leading Gunners in Doue pursuit

But Plettenberg states that Bayern have had an opening offer for Doue rejected and are now preparing a second, improved bid. Rennes rate Doue incredibly highly though and want €60million (£50m) before selling.

Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix, as they want to keep the teenager in France, but Bayern are leading the race as things stand.

Bayern are in ‘advanced talks’ with both Doue and Rennes as they close in on his signing. Kompany has also spoken with Doue over the phone to explain the club’s project and how the player will fit in.

Doue will not walk straight into Bayern’s starting eleven, as Kompany can already utilise top players such as Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala on the left flank. But the France U21 international has amazing potential and will hope to one day establish himself as a key player for Bayern, should this transfer reach completion.

Man Utd tipped to destroy Tottenham transfer, as 26y/o star receives contact

Manchester United have been backed to ruin a Tottenham Hotspur move, with Italian giants AC Milan reportedly interested in players from both clubs.

So far this summer, Man Utd have allowed the likes of Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Brandon Williams to leave on free transfers, while also selling Alvaro Fernandez, Donny van de Beek and Willy Kambwala. The only player Man Utd have signed so far is Joshua Zirkzee, who has arrived from Bologna, though club chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is hoping to follow up on that deal with the signings of Matthijs de Ligt, plus a new central midfielder and left-back.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have released Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga and Tanguy Ndombele, in addition to selling Joe Rodon and Troy Parrott.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have brought in Timo Werner on another loan deal, signed Archie Gray from Leeds United and added Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall to their ranks – a deal which was agreed during the winter window.

DON’T MISS – Exclusive: Man Utd ponder U-turn on exiled forward as new favourites emerge in Mason Greenwood transfer race

Tottenham are hoping to offload another unwanted player in the near future, with defender Emerson Royal up for sale.

The North London side have held several rounds of talks with Milan over Emerson’s potential transfer, though the two clubs have yet to finalise a deal.

Tottenham are holding out for €25million (£21m), as they do not want to take a big financial hit on the right-back, who originally cost them £25.8m in August 2021.

Milan, in contrast, are refusing to bid more than €15m (£13m), which put the transfer on the brink of collapse on Saturday.

Man Utd latest: Milan spy Wan-Bissaka, Emerson deals

According to the latest reports coming out of Italy, Man Utd could put the final nail in the coffin by selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Milan instead.

It is revealed that Milan have switched their attention to Wan-Bissaka after becoming frustrated in their talks for Emerson. The Serie A giants have contacted Man Utd to find out how much Wan-Bissaka might cost.

The Red Devils spent a huge £50m to sign Wan-Bissaka in July 2019, and it has been claimed that Ratcliffe has set his price tag at £17-20m.

But the fact that Milan have set their sights on the Englishman suggests they are confident they can sign him for less than the £21m Spurs want for Emerson.

Wan-Bissaka had his contract extended by Man Utd earlier this year, which means it is due to run until June 2025. But this may simply have been Man Utd protecting the player’s transfer value so that they can sell him for a decent fee at a later date.

Wan-Bissaka could be sold by Ratcliffe alongside several other Man Utd players, such as Christian Eriksen, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Hannibal Mejbri.

Those departures would give Ratcliffe crucial funds to bring in some of his own top targets. Earlier on Monday it was revealed that Man Utd are keeping tabs on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton after being overtaken in the chase for Joao Neves by Paris Saint-Germain.

Man Utd are also in discussions over De Ligt’s prospective move, though they have yet to match Bayern Munich’s £42m asking price.

Miguel Gutierrez and Milos Kerkez, meanwhile, are Ratcliffe’s two favourite options to bolster the left-back position for Erik ten Hag.

Tottenham transfers: Fabrizio Romano confirms chase for £120m Prem duo with Postecoglou priority clear

Description

Tottenham have already made two impressive signings in Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall this summer but their business is far from over as they aim to build a squad capable of competing for trophies.

Ange Postecoglou has made signing a new winger one of his priorities for the window and as we’ve consistently reported, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is at the top of his shortlist.

The 26-year-old, who was part of the England squad that reached the Euro 2024 final, is available for £60m due to a release clause in his contract.

Eze plays as an attacking midfielder or left-winger – so he could compete with the likes of James Maddison, Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Manor Solomon at Tottenham.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with Eze in recent weeks and now reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that Spurs are considering a bid for Eze.

“There is appreciation from Spurs for Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace,” Romano said on his Playback Live Show.

But he isn’t the only attacking player from the Premier League that Postecoglou has his eye on.

Tottenham weigh up Pedro Neto bid

Romano goes on to say that Wolves winger Pedro Neto is another name on Tottenham’s shortlist.

“With all of the other options for Tottenham, we always mention here Pedro Neto, this is absolutely confirmed.” Romano added.

“So Tottenham like Eze and like Pedro Neto, and they have decided how much they want to spend in that position.

“So there is internal conversation, but they will bring in one more player in that position for sure – one more offensive player.”

Romano doesn’t reveal how much money Tottenham have set aside for Eze or Neto but both players are valued at £60m by their respective clubs and are unlikely to budge.

Eze was arguably Crystal Palace’s standout player last season. He scored 11 goals and made six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions, and that form deservedly earned him a spot in the England squad.

As for Neto, he started last season on fire with seven assists and one goal in his first 10 Premier League games before he picked up a hamstring injury.

FULL BREAKDOWN: All the done deals by Premier League clubs in the summer 2024 transfer window

The 24-year-old struggled to get back to that form once he returned and then picked up the same injury again. He missed 23 games in total due to injury last term.

However, Neto is undoubtedly a top player when fully fit and it’s no surprise to see top clubs like Tottenham chasing his signature.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs launch a concrete bid for Eze or Neto in the coming days, as Romano suggests, or if they submit offers for both players.

Tottenham laughing as Crystal Palace line up Michael Olise replacement in perfect deal for Spurs

Description

Crystal Palace are considering a move for a former Tottenham attacker to replace Michael Olise and why the move would be perfect for Spurs has been revealed.

Crystal Palace waved goodbye to Olise last week when the 22-year-old left-footer joined Bayern Munich. Palace netted just above £50m from the sale and will now be doubly determined to retain fellow star players Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze.

But of equal importance to keeping that pair is ensuring manager Oliver Glasner is provided with an adequate Olise replacement.

To that end, Sky Sports state one player under consideration by Palace chiefs is former Tottenham forward, Marcus Edwards.

Now 25, Edwards initially left Tottenham for Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes and retained 50 percent of the player’s economic rights.

Edwards subsequently joining Sporting CP three years later in 2022, though crucially, Spurs retained their economic rights in the player.

Their stake in Edwards was later reduced by 15 percent as part of the agreement that brought Pedro Porro from Sporting to Spurs.

As such, Tottenham are in line to receive 35 percent of the transfer fee if and when Edwards if sold by Sporting.

According to Sky Sports, that moment may come this window, with Edwards open to the idea of returning to the Premier League.

HAVE YOU SEEN: The most expensive Bayern Munich transfers of all time: Michael Olise three places behind Harry Kane

Crystal Palace line up Marcus Edwards; expected fee revealed

The left-footer plays primarily on the right wing and as such, would represent a like-for-like replacement for Olise.

Edwards bagged 15 goal contributions across 44 appearances for Sporting last term. His efforts helped Ruben Amorim’s side romp to the Primeira Liga title when beating second-placed Benfica by 10 points.

A follow-up from the Evening Standard revealed Sporting could cash in on Edwards this window if bids in the £20m region are received.

If Palace were to see a £20m bid accepted, Tottenham would collect £7m through their economic rights.

Crystal Palace do have alternative targets in mind and aren’t putting all their eggs in the Edwards basket, however.

Another electric forward forward under the microscope at Selhurst Park is Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville.

The Dutchman was near-unplayable in the Championship last term when bagging 20 goals and nine assists in the league alone. His exploits resulted in Summerville being named Championship Player of the Season.

However, the right-footer’s natural position is on the left and as such, he would not represent a direct replacement for Olise from a positional standpoint.

Leeds will give serious consideration to any bids they receive for Summerville worth roughly £30m.

Tottenham hijack Newcastle swoop for bargain 121-goal striker signing, with Postecoglou ‘obsessed’

Description

Ange Postecoglou is ‘obsessed’ about signing a new centre-forward, and Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to rival Newcastle United for Ligue 1 ace Jonathan David, as per reports.

Tottenham sold talisman Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer and they have since relied on the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison up front. But Postecoglou feels Son would be more effective if he went back to his usual left wing position, while Richarlison has been underwhelming since his £60million switch from Everton in the summer of 2022.

Richarlison is understood to be a target for Saudi Pro League clubs. Regardless of whether the Brazilian stays at Tottenham or leaves, Postecoglou wants a new striker to join and help the club get back in the top four next season.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Tottenham are racing to sign Lille star David as they look to beat a host of other clubs to his services.

DON’T MISS – Jonathan David profile: Man Utd, Tottenham, Chelsea all in contention for absolute bargain

Manchester United have been linked with the Canadian on several occasions, while TEAMtalk revealed on Wednesday that Newcastle have entered talks over his potential capture.

But Tottenham are firmly in the mix and they could begin rival talks with Lille in the coming days to ruin Newcastle’s hopes.

Postecoglou will be pushing Spurs chiefs to land David, as he is supposedly ‘obsessed’ about bringing a new No 9 to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have been linked with a host of strikers since selling Kane, but David looks like a fantastic solution. He has great pedigree, having scored 121 goals in 266 games throughout his career and 84 goals in 183 appearances for Lille specifically.

Tottenham transfers: Jonathan David race underway

David is 24 years old too, which means he has time to get even better and potentially make a name for himself as one of the very best strikers around. Despite these factors, Spurs can snare David on the cheap.

He has entered the final 12 months of his Lille contract, which has forced the French side to significantly reduce their asking price.

Lille have demanded as much as £50-60m for David in the past, but Spurs can now strike a deal for just £25m.

A transfer at that price would leave Postecoglou with enough funds to improve other areas of the pitch, too.

So far in the current transfer window, Spurs have extended Timo Werner’s loan deal, completed the signing of Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall – a deal which was originally agreed in February – and raided Leeds United for English starlet Archie Gray.

The latter cost Spurs a reported £25-30m, with Spurs outcast Joe Rodon also heading in the opposite direction.

West Ham join race for ex-Tottenham star who’s perfect fit amid Saudi interest

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn has been identified as a target for two Saudi Arabian clubs but is also attracting interest from the Premier League and Ligue 1.

Ajax manager Francesco Farioli has reportedly given up hope of retaining the 26-year-old as interest intensifies with West Ham United said to be leading the race.

Although Farioli has high expectations for the winger for the upcoming campaign, according to Dutch reports, he is aware that Bergwijn is one of the few players at the team with a sizable price tag.

If Ajax were to sell this summer, they would want to get between €25m-30m (£21-25m) for the player.

It is known that the Hammers had expressed interest in Bergwijn in the past. However, they were unable to complete the business during the January transfer window, and right now they would have to sell before they could get the Ajax star on board.

According to reports, Bergwijn recently spoke with Farioli and is currently considering his next move in his career.

Bergwijn is on holiday at the moment but has held talks with his manager at Ajax and is said to be willing to listen to serious offers.

Even while the Ajax boss would prefer not to lose the winger this summer, if the Hammers make a strong enough bid to bring him back to the Premier League, he might not have an option.

West Ham eager to sign ‘perfect fit’

With his Premier League experience, Bergwijn, who can play anywhere in the front line, would be an ideal addition to the West Ham attack alongside Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, and Lucas Paqueta.

Although he undoubtedly had a difficult time adjusting to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he has since returned to the Netherlands and has scored 29 goals in 76 games to establish himself as an important member of Ajax.

While Ajax have to sell players in order to make new signings, it has been reported that their asking price has been deemed too high by the likes of Marseille.

While Bergwijn has held those talks with his manager it is not clear if he prefers a move away from the Eredivisie or wants to stay in Amsterdam.

Saudi Pro League clubs are willing to hand Bergwijn a massive payday, but it’s up to the former Premier League star to make the call on whether he thinks now is the right time to move to the Gulf.

Tottenham transfers: £42m move gathers pace as Postecoglou picks out deadly Bundesliga hitman to fill problem position

According to the latest reports coming from Germany, Tottenham are ready to ramp up their pursuit of a top Bundesliga attacker to fill a problem position for Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian remains determined to bring in a new No.9 this summer after watching his side squander countless chances last season on their way to a fifth-placed Premier League finish.

Skipper Son Heung-min notched 17 times, playing a mixture of centrally and on the left wing, while Richarlison at least went some way towards justifying his £60m price tag after betting 12 times.

However, Postecoglou wants a guaranteed 20-plus attacker on board in order to try and keep up with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool going forward.

DIVE DEEPER: Jonathan David profile: Man Utd, Tottenham, Chelsea all in contention for absolute bargain

Countless names continue to be linked with a switch to north London, including the likes of Ivan Toney, Santiago Gimenez and Jonathan David to name but a few.

However, German publication Sport Bild, reports that Tottenham have genuine interest in signing £42million Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush before the summer window shuts.

Marmoush really caught the eye with his performances in the Bundesliga last season, with the 25-year-old scoring 17 goals and adding six assists across all competitions in 41 appearances.

The Egypt international predominantly lines up as a traditional No.9 but is also capable of laying on either wing in a front three.

His current contract with the Bundesliga outfit runs out in 2027, and while Frankfurt have no real desire to sell it’s reported that an offer of around £42m should do the trick.

Frankfurt star tipped as perfect Tottenham signing

Marmoush, who has also scored five goals in 29 caps for his country, certainly has a big fan in the shape of his club coach Dino Topmoller, who has talked up the player’s qualities.

Speaking last season, Topmoller said: “He is a very good player who has discovered the art of scoring goals. He can sense the faith the coaches and his team-mates have in him. He is extremely hard-working and difficult to defend.”

Another big fan is former Tottenham forward Mido, who advised his old club to recruit the 6ft Marmoush earlier this year.

He previously tweeted: “Years ago I advised #Spurs to sign #salah when he was still at #Basil they never listened to me…now I’m telling you plz [sic] go for Marmoush he will be a great signing and will fit in perfectly in Angie’s system as a left or right winger…hard worker top professional and can score goals..plz [sic] #levy sign #Marmoush from #Frankfurt #COYS.”

At this stage, it remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham are prepared to splash out roughly the same amount for Marmoush as they could get Premier League-proven Toney for.

However, the former is three years younger and could end up representing better value in the long run.

One thing is for sure, if the club opts not to replace Harry Kane again this summer they are potentially asking for trouble.

There remains plenty of chatter about Eberechi Eze arriving from Crystal Palace to provide even more creativity alongside James Maddison, but Spurs are in desperate need of a world-class striker to help put chances away.

Marmoush certainly represents a bit of a gamble but appears to have created a big enough reputation to suggest he could be a big hit in English football.

Tottenham tranfers: Postecoglou peeved after player switch collapses but new suitor quickly emerges

Tottenham’s plans to offload one of Ange Postecoglou’s fringe defensive players appear to be in tatters after the reported collapse of the player’s proposed switch to Italy, although all is not lost just yet.

The Australian wants to clear out the deadwood in north London and create a squad capable of pushing for a top-four finish this season and eventually be title contenders – such is his ambition.

The likes of Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele, Ivan Perisic, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon have already been offloaded but there are expected to be more.

In terms of incomings, there has been a real focus on the future with Archie Gray arriving from Leeds and Lucas Bergvall finally walking through the door after his signing was agreed last January. Timo Werner also adds some experience after penning another loan deal at Tottenham.

DIVE DEEPER: Top 10 most expensive Tottenham signings ever: Two future legends mixed with disastrous flops

However, in terms of players still being tipped to leave, chief among them are the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sergio Reguilon, Emerson Royal, Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gill and potentially Richarlison and Oliver Skipp.

The focus of this report though features on Brazilian defender Emerson and his proposed move to AC Milan.

Despite being in advanced discussions, Sky Italia, as reported by MilanNews24, describes a “sensational U-turn” in the negotiations between the clubs.

Milan have reportedly cooled their interest in the 25-year-old, who is now said to be considering other options.

The Serie A giants initially offered €15million, but Tottenham rejected the bid, holding out for closer to €20m.

While personal terms were seemingly agreed upon, including a five-year contract worth €3m annually, a final agreement between the clubs has not been reached, almost certainly leading to the collapse of the transfer.

Dortmund door swings open for Tottenham star

Emerson joined Spurs from Barcelona in 2021 but has struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter under manager Ange Postecoglou, especially given the outstanding form of Pedro Porro in his position.

Last season, he made 22 Premier League appearances, starting only 11 games – although his ability to fill in at centre-back and left-back in a crisis was critical and met with plenty of praise from Postecoglou.

However, Emerson, whose contract runs out in 2026, is not in the Australian’s long-term plans – especially after the addition of Gray, who prefers to play in central midfield but also fill in at right-back.

The breakdown over the move to Milan has, however, opened doors to other potential suitors and a fresh report claims Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the Brazil international.

Reports from Emerson’s homeland state that Dortmund have outbid Milan by offering €20m, news which will be music to Daniel Levy’s ears if true.

Emerson is a hugely popular member among the Tottenham squad and is also well-liked by the fans, but his deficiencies have shown up all too often and Postecoglou only wants players he can trust to pull off playing the way he wants – something he alluded to towards the end of last season.

To that end, it appears that the likeable Brazilian will almost certainly be offloaded, even permanently or on loan, before the summer window closes.

Tottenham have been credited as the favourites to sign Eberechi Eze this summer with a trusted journalist expecting their interest to kick into gear over the next few days, though Liverpool cannot yet be discounted from signing the Crystal Palace star.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a brilliant season last time out with his electrfying form towards the back end of the season enough to secure Eze a place in the England squad at the expense of Tottenham star James Maddison. Eze finished the season with 17-goal involvements (11 goals, six assists) from 31 appearances – one every 1.8 matches. Compare that to Maddison, who managed 13 (nine goals, four assists) from 30 appearances – one every 2.3 games – it’s fair to say Gareth Southgate got that call right.

But having already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, the chances of Palace keeping another star man in place are rapidly fading, according to the latest reports.

That’s because Eze has an attractive release clause in his deal widely reported to be £60m mark, though sources have indicated to TEAMtalk that another £8m would be owed to the Eagles in add-ons and incentives on top of that mark.

DON’T MISS ➡️ Crystal Palace Exclusive: Glasner fears cataclysmic exits as worrying triple deal takes effect

Such a deal would make Eze a record signing at Tottenham were he to move across London to N17, though such fees are slightly more common place at fellow suitors Liverpool and something of the norm at Manchester City, who are also admirers of the former QPR man.

While Eze has only managed limited minutes for England at Euro 2024 so far, Southgate has been keen to stress that every player in his 26-man squad has played a role in helping them reach Sunday’s final against Spain.

Tottenham favourites to sign Eberechi Eze

And while it is debatable if he will see any action in the Berlin showpiece, interest in prising Eze away from Selhurst Park is expected to be stepped up in the days that follow England’s return from Germany, with several players due to either finalise their futures before embarking on much-needed holidays.

Ange Postecoglou’s interest in acquiring Eze’s services is well documented as he looks to further strengthen a Tottenham side that finished a progressive fifth last season.

However, the Aussie knows he will need a peppering of additional quality to break into the top four, with the free-running and quick-to-shoot Eze seen as one of those who can give his Spurs side another string to their bow.

And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking to the Last Word on Spurs podcast, it is Tottenham who are ahead of all other clubs in the chase for Eze and with their interest expected to rise in the coming days once England’s fate is known.

“When one club enquires, every club enquires. As soon as the Euros finish we might see some movement on this one,” he said of Eze.

“You’re right that Manchester City like this player, but Tottenham are there and I think they’re ahead if you like in terms of how concrete they are that he’s someone they wish to move on than Arsenal who have been linked with Eberechi Eze as well.”

Liverpool not discounted from Eze race

Former Spurs scout Bryan King would also love to see Eze at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“Eze would be an exciting signing, he is a very good player,” King said last month.

“But he reminds me a lot of Maddison. Does this therefore suggest that Maddison’s time with Tottenham could be up?”

“Maddison started off very brightly but then he disappointed himself and the club in the second half of the season.

“His attitude went downhill and he seemed to get involved in things on and off the field which were unnecessary.”

READ NEXT ➡️ Liverpool superstar tipped to seal blockbuster move by former Everton chief as Slot settles on replacement

Despite claims of interest from Arsenal and Man City, it’s also been reported that Liverpool are also strong admirers of the player.

And with the Reds able to offer Champions League football – something Eze’s exit clause is thought to stipulate – Liverpool could yet gain a key advantage over Spurs were they to make a rival offer.

Transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Liverpool boss Arne Slot is now ready to throw his hat into the ring for Eze’s signature and claims the Merseysiders cannot yet be discounted from the race to sign the seven-times capped England international.

Eze joined the Eagles in a 2020 move from QPR and is contracted to the Eagles until summer 2027. In that time he has played 124 times for the Croydon-based side, scoring a total of 26 goals and laying on 17 assists.
