Juventus star gunning for big Man Utd transfer despite Tottenham ‘agreement’ and Chelsea ‘talks’

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea could be thwarted in their respective bids to sign Federico Chiesa, as the Juventus star is holding out for a big transfer to Manchester United, according to reports.

Chiesa has long been touted for a switch to the Premier League. He has repeatedly been named as a potential successor to Mo Salah at Liverpool ever since he played a starring role in Italy winning the Euros in 2021. A move to Anfield has never materialised, but Chiesa is now closer than ever to leaving Juventus.

The winger, who can play on either flank or at centre-forward if required, has entered the final year of his Juve contract. This has seen chiefs at the Italian club, plus new manager Thiago Motta, give his potential sale the green light.

Juve are aware that Chiesa is one of the bigger names in their first-team squad, and he should therefore garner plenty of interest. Plus, his departure would give Juve more funds as they look to continue reshaping Motta’s squad.

On Wednesday, the Italy ace supposedly ‘said yes’ to a transfer to Tottenham, who have been heavily linked with him in recent months. It was subsequently claimed that Tottenham have agreed a €30-35million (£25-29.5m) package with Juve to put themselves on the verge of landing him.

However, Spurs still have not finalised the signing, and this has allowed other Premier League clubs to enter the frame.

On Sunday, Chelsea initiated contact to see if they can win the race for Chiesa. And there has now been a double update on the attacker’s future.

Corriere dello Sport state that Chiesa’s agent has flown to London to hold ‘face-to-face talks’ with both Spurs and Chelsea, as he aims to resolve his client’s situation.

Man Utd latest: Huge Federico Chiesa boost

But fellow Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport throw a major spanner in the works, claiming that Chiesa is actually eager to sign for Man Utd.

The 26-year-old ‘favours’ the major profile Man Utd would be able to offer him and ‘prefers’ a switch to Old Trafford at this stage.

Man Utd are currently prioritising deals for other players such as Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. They have been linked with Chiesa in the past though, and it seems if they enter the transfer battle then the player will try to force through a move to Old Trafford.

This update comes at an intriguing time, as Paris Saint-Germain are stepping up their efforts to sign Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho – though it will be a tough deal to complete – while Antony is facing a very uncertain future.

Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk transfer insider Fraser Gillan that Man Utd are ready to offload the expensive Brazilian at a huge loss.

Tottenham transfers: Deal 'very close' after cruel injury blow prompts improved bid that will be accepted

Tottenham are on the cusp of selling Emerson Royal to AC Milan and Daniel Levy’s insistence on holding out for the best deal possible looks to have borne fruit following a cruel injury blow.

Emerson has entered the final two years of his contract with Tottenham who are seeking to maximise their sale potential by cashing in right now.

Pedro Porro has usurped Emerson as the first-choice selection at right-back. Porro’s excellent displays forced Emerson into a firefighting role last season, with the Brazilian often deployed out of position at left-back to cover Destiny Udogie’s various absences.

But with Archie Gray arriving – the former Leeds United ace can play central midfield or right-back – Emerson’s usefulness to Ange Postecoglou has reduced even further.

The 25-year-old struck an agreement on personal terms with AC Milan way back in June. A five-year deal that will net Emerson roughly €50,000-a-week has been sealed and remains valid.

However, Milan’s opening offer worth just €10m/£8.5m was understandably deemed unsatisfactory by Tottenham’s decision-makers.

Milan gradually begun to explore alternative targets including Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. However, Wan-Bissaka is valued at £15m and is in talks to sign with West Ham anyway.

As such, Milan’s attention has refocused back on Emerson and a cruel injury blow in pre-season has sparked an improved bid.

Tottenham expected to accept improved AC Milan bid

Milan full-back Alessandro Florenzi recently suffered a serious knee injury during his side’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City in Yankee Stadium.

Florenzi must undergo an operation to fix the issue and his lengthy absence has prompted Milan to raise the stakes for Emerson.

Sky Italia state Milan have upped their offer from €10m/£8.5m to a fee in the €14m-€15m (£11.8m-£12.7m) range. Add-ons are also part of the bid and would take the final fee even higher.

The report strongly suggested the improved bid will be accepted, labelling the transfer ‘very close’ on the back of Milan raising the stakes.

Adding further fuel to the fire was Fabrizio Romano’s claims on X. The trusted transfer guru confirmed Milan and Spurs will hold a fresh round of talks today (Monday) in the hopes of finalising the deal.

“Emerson Royal, expected to join AC Milan from Tottenham this week as reported earlier,” wrote Romano.

“There’s one more round of talks set to take place on Monday with AC Milan confident to get final green light.”

If all goes according to plan, Tottenham’s patience will be rewarded and their decision to hold out for more lucrative terms will have proven a wise one.

Chelsea transfers: Blues 'open talks' with Tottenham target as Maresca eyes Sterling upgrade

Chelsea have backed new manager Enzo Maresca with six new signings already but the Blues’ transfer business is far from done this summer.

Maresca is still keen to strengthen in several key areas ahead of the coming season in which he will be tasked with taking Chelsea back towards the top of the Premier League table.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Saturday that the London side are close to signing a new goalkeeper in Filip Jorgensen after agreeing a £20.7m fee with Villarreal.

Maresca is also keen to sign a new striker and winger before the window slams shut and it has been suggested that they’ve received a boost in their pursuit of the latter.

According to reports from Italy, Chelsea have opened talks with the agents of Juventus star Federico Chiesa, who has been linked with Tottenham and Arsenal recently.

As we exclusively revealed weeks ago, Chiesa’s agent, Fali Ramadani, has been offering the Italian international to clubs in the Premier League.

Ramadani has now travelled to London to hold further talks with various clubs, and will make it clear that his next club must offer him a £130,000 per week contract.

Chiesa has just 12 months remaining on his Juventus contract and his wage demands are the big reason why he’s likely to leave this summer.

Chiesa available for cut-price fee

Juventus signed Chiesa from Fiorentina for £54m two years ago but it’s claimed that Chelsea should be able to sign him for ‘much cheaper.’

The Italian side could allow the 26-year-old to leave for as little as £20m and that represents a bargain for a player of his quality.

Chiesa was considered one of the best wingers in the world when he was on fire for Italy in Euro 2020 but injuries have stunted his progress somewhat.

He showed signs of getting back to his best last season, netting 10 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Chiesa is keen to test himself in the Premier League but as we’ve seen in the past, it can sometimes be difficult for players to adapt to English football.

But Chelsea remain keen on a deal as they look to bring in more competition for the likes of Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Blues seem keen on a deal for Chiesa after holding talks with Chiesa’s representatives and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham and Arsenal do the same in the coming days.

Tottenham transfers: Postecoglou backed to sign Man Utd star Ten Hag loves for bargain fee as part of triple deal

Tottenham are reportedly looking into a raid on Manchester United for Scott McTominay with the star tipped to slot “seamlessly” into Ange Postecoglou’s side and with deals for two more players also nearing completion.

Spurs have made great strides under Postecoglou in the Aussie’s first year at the helm, finishing fifth in the Premier League and sealing a place in the Europa League this season to boot. With the very-much welcome return to European football placing new demands on the Tottenham squad, however, Postecoglou knows he will need a sprinkling of additional quality to ensure his side go deep in Europe and also stay on track for their main task of winning a trophy and securing a top-four finish.

To that end, Postecoglou has already added to his squad depth this summer with Timo Werner extending his loan for a second season, Archie Gray arriving from Leeds and Lucas Bergvall finalisng his switch from Djurgarden.

IN DEPTH ➡️ Seven sensational Tottenham teenagers who could end up saving Levy millions in the market

However, the popular head coach is far from done and TEAMtalk understands he very much hopes to sign a new prolific No 9 as an upgrade on Richarlison, while another all-action midfielder is also being sought.

For much of Postecoglou’s reign, the Aussie has chased Chelsea star Conor Gallagher; the bustling Duracell bunny like style of the England man seen as perfect for the Tottenham midfield.

But with a move for the 24-year-old always seen as difficult, given the rivalry that exists between the two sides, Postecoglou has been forced to look into other possible options.

Tottenham told move for Man Utd star would be ideal

And now it’s been suggested that his focus is about to switch to McTominay, with Manchester United seemingly open to offers for several first-team stars this summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to transform the Red Devils back among the English elite.

United, for their part, have let it be known that a number of first-team stars could move on this summer, with midfield an area of close focus for Ratcliffe.

And while the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen look more likely to move on, they are also open to offers for McTominay, whom proved himself one of Erik ten Hag’s more trusted players last season.

Despite that, McTominay has never really earned the full trust of the United fanbase and interest in his services has arrived from Fulham this summer.

While the Cottagers have failed to agree a deal – and have since turned their focus towards Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe, the window of opportunity has now presented itself to Tottenham, who are reportedly now planning an approach of their own.

And amid claims a deal worth around £35m to £40m could convince United to cash in, former Spurs full-back Alan Hutton has told Football Insider why he thinks McTominay would be an ideal addition to Postecoglou’s side.

“I think it would suit him because he’s high energy, and that’s when you get the best of him,” Hutton said.

“You see from Scotland games when he’s allowed to burst forward when he’s allowed to get forward, he can score goals and he can assist.

“He can close down, he wins the ball back high up the pitch and I think that’s what Ange likes.

“You see him doing it a lot for Scotland, he doesn’t do it as much for Manchester United because he’s being asked to play a different type of way.

“Fees, it’s going to be probably £30million or above, with the experience that he’s got, he’s still at a decent age he’s got a lot of football in him.

“He gives you something else.

“We talk about Conor Gallagher and how much he’s worth, and he’s a little bit younger to be fair, but Scott McTominay gives you the same kind of attributes as well.

“He would be a real good addition to an Ange team and he would fit in seamlessly.”

Spurs to finance McTominay signing with double sale

Tottenham had Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr marshalling the central midfield last season, with both Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg providing back-up.

However, with Hojbjerg having already moved on – the Dane has this week joined Marseille on a season’s loan with the French side having an obligation to make the move a permanent €20m (£17m) transfer next summer – he is soon set to be joined out the exit door by Skipp.

Indeed, with Postecoglou clearing the 23-year-old to leave, the player had initially been the subject of an approach from Leeds as part of the conversations around Gray’s move from Elland Road earlier this month.

But with Skipp making it clear he did not want to play in the Championship, he has bided his time to wait for other interest in his services to materialise.

Now it is understood that a move to Premier League new boys Leicester is on the cards, with the Foxes opening talks on a transfer that could be ultimately worth up to £15m.

The exits of both Hojbjerg and Skipp will likely ultimately net Tottenham a combined £32m – not too far short of the fee required to prise McTominay away from United.

Such a signing would give Postecoglou an injection of quality in central midfield, as well as an eye for a goal. The 52-times capped Scotland international has scored 29 times in 252 appearances for the Red Devils, a tally that includes an impressive 10 in 43 games last season.

Archie Gray: Hard Leeds United exit truths arrive as star reveals true reasons for Tottenham transfer

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Archie Gray has broken his silence on his decision to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer and has moved to dispel myths that he was forced to leave by Leeds United after listing the two biggest factors behind his £40m transfer earlier this month.

The teenage star enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough campaign in the 2023/24 season as Leeds United twice narrowly missed out on an instant return to the Premier League, with their 90-point tally not enough to secure automatic promotion and then with the Whites failing to give a true account of themselves in the play-off final against Southampton at Wembley.

As the dust settled on their failure to reclaim a place among the elite, it soon became evident that Leeds would need to secure a big sale by the end of June to appease strick Profit and Sustainability Rules. And while interest from numerous clubs in the likes of Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto failed to see a deal materialise, it soon became apparent that they would be able to sell teenage star Gray.

Indeed, with Brentford initially given permission to discuss his signing, it was Tottenham who eventually swooped in to sign the teenager in a deal which would break records and easily make Gray one one of the top 10 most expensive teenagers in world football.

IN DEPTH ➡️ The 10 most expensive teenagers of all time, featuring Leny Yoro to Man Utd and three Real Madrid signings

At the time of the move, it was widely reported that Gray’s sale came against the teenager’s will and that he was simply told by Leeds he would have to leave to help balance the books and ensure they did not incur a points penalty.

Archie Gray: Teenager sets record straight over move from Leeds to Tottenham

And while there is still an element of truth in the sale coming , Gray has now spoken out while on tour with his new club on their tour of the Far East, with the teenager quick to set the record straight over the reasons behind the £40m move in a chat with Football.London.

“At the start of the window I didn’t really know anything about [a potential transfer anywhere] and I was content to stay at Leeds, but as soon as I heard Tottenham were coming in I was like ‘I need to go there’,” Gray said.

“It’s a huge club and my dad [former Leeds player, Andy Gray] said that too. He came to my room one morning and said ‘look, you’ve got to go to Spurs. It’s a massive club’.

“My grandad [former Leeds star, Frank Gray] was saying it as well, he’s obviously done pretty well in his career, and he said at some point you’ve got to go to one of the biggest clubs in England and he thinks now is the right time and he thinks Spurs is a massive club as well.

“So, with people who have been advising me my whole life, I have to listen to them and I also wanted to do it too, so that was definitely a massive thing and since then I’ve enjoyed every second of it. So, definitely happy that I made that decision.”

Gray also claims Ange Postecoglou was a major factor in securing the move with his family also big Celtic supporters and with the Australian something of a heralded figure in their household for the work he did previously at Parkhead.

“It was just really positive and most of it was football, but he was getting to know what I was like as a person,” said the teenager. “Hopefully I came across really well but it’s a massive factor that the manager’s here and I’ve been following him for a while, since he was at Celtic and one of my U21 managers went to the Australian league so even since then I’ve been following him so, yeah, he’s a massive factor.”

Gray added: “Obviously I’ve got a Leeds family and I support them too, but yeah my grandad and dad played for Scotland and supported Celtic. When Ange was there I enjoyed watching them and I still do now.”

Joe Rodon, Son Heung-min influence in Gray transfer

Gray formed a close bond with Joe Rodon while the pair were at Leeds United together, with the latter spending the season on loan with the Whites before finalising a permanent £10m transfer this summer on the same day Gray’s move the other way was completed.

And Gray has revealed that Rodon asked Tottenham captain Son Heung-min to look out for the teenager in his early days at Spurs and to help him settle in.

“I’m really enjoying it and everyone’s been brilliant with me so far. I wouldn’t say I’m the hardest guy to get along with, I’m pretty laid back and pretty easy to speak to, but everyone’s been amazing with me and I’m enjoying the first few weeks,” he said.

Revealing Son’s role, Gray added: “On the pitch and off the pitch, he’s been helping me, it’s just little things. He is really good friends with Joe Rodon and last year when Joe was at Leeds I was probably the closest with Joe when he joined and I think when I came here Joe told Sonny to look after me a little bit,” he said. “He’s making me feel really welcome and just with little things like helping me speak to everyone and helping me into the group.”

DON’T MISS ➡️ Seven sensational Tottenham teenagers who could end up saving Levy millions in the market

Naming his two favourite Tottenham players as a boy as Gareth Bale and Harry Kane, Gray spoke highly of Son too and admits he feels fortunate to play in the same side as the South Korea icon.

“There’s nothing that he could improve on. Every day he sets the standard in training and I look up to him and I feel like I’m lucky to have a player like that in the team and for him to be captain is just incredible,” Gray commented.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. You know his quality in games, he’s been showing it for 10 years now and internationally he’s been amazing. I don’t usually like speaking that highly of people in the same team as me, because it feels weird, but he’s incredible.”

Arsenal transfers: Edu barges Tottenham aside by making approach for forward dumped by Calafiori's ex

Arsenal have strongly entered the race for Juventus and Italy winger Federico Chiesa, who was previously thought to be close to a move to Tottenham, according to reports in his homeland.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already lined up one Italian signing this summer, with Riccardo Calafiori on his way for a medical ahead of his arrival from Bologna. However, it has now emerged that they could also sign one of his teammates from his country’s Euro 2024 squad.

According to Tutto Juve, Arsenal have asked for information about Chiesa, who is in the final year of his contract in Turin and has been heavily linked with Tottenham recently.

Chiesa has been holding out for the right offer this summer, thought to be keen on continuing his career at Champions League level.

While Tottenham cannot offer that this season, Arsenal can – and it seems they are set to step up their interest in the 26-year-old.

Juventus are asking for €25m to sell Chiesa, who is actually the subject of interest from three London-based clubs. In addition to Arsenal and Tottenham, the report claims Chelsea are keeping an eye on him too.

Chelsea face the same issue as Tottenham, though, in not being able to provide a platform in the 2024-25 Champions League.

That said, Chiesa would get to work under an Italian coach at Chelsea, who appointed Enzo Maresca as the replacement for Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer.

DON’T MISS 👉 Riccardo Calafiori next: Ranking every player Arsenal have signed from Serie A from worst to best

As things stand, Chiesa is not believed to be part of new Juventus coach Thiago Motta’s plans. Ironically, it was Motta who worked wonders with Arsenal new boy Calafiori at Bologna, but he doesn’t seem to think Chiesa will fit in his plans at his new club.

A vague Motta said earlier this week: “Federico is still part of Juventus at the moment, then we’ll see.”

Do Arsenal have room for Chiesa?

Right-footed, Chiesa usually plays on the left wing, although he can feature on either flank. In his natural role, though, he would be a threat to Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard for regular gametime at Arsenal.

Strengthening on the wings isn’t Arsenal’s top priority, since they have gaps to fill in midfield and at centre-forward, but it is something that has been on their to-do list for a while, particularly when they have been concerned about overusing Bukayo Saka on the right-hand side.

Arsenal are also expected to move Reiss Nelson on imminently, while attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe is heavily linked with Fulham, so they could need to restock behind whichever new centre-forward (if any) they invest in.

One person who seems happy about Arsenal’s transfer activity is former player Paul Merson, who posted on Saturday: “Calafori to Arsenal would be a brilliant signing and now talks of Chiesa… Arteta doing well so far in the transfer market.”

Tottenham transfers: Winger given new release clause as Fabrizio Romano reveals agreement for loan exit

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to send Bryan Gil on loan to Girona, Fabrizio Romano has revealed, but his future beyond the 2024-25 season will be subject to some interesting new parameters.

Gil has become a top target for Girona in recent days and they have been the only club he has been considering joining. It follows a season on the fringes of the Tottenham team in which he only made 11 appearances.

The Spanish winger has always been more trusted back in his homeland, as seen via loan spells with Valencia and Sevilla, and he is set to spend the upcoming season at Girona.

Part of the City Football Group, Girona shocked LaLiga by finishing in the top four last season and securing Champions League qualification.

They will have Gil along for the ride, but Romano has revealed some unusual details about what his future will hold after the loan spell.

The Italian reporter has unearthed that Tottenham have given Gil a contract extension before signing off on his loan exit. Given that he was previously due to reach the end of his deal in 2026, it should protect his value.

In fact, Tottenham have written a release clause into Gil’s new deal. It means clubs will be able to buy him for €15m (which is about £12.7m at the moment, but exchange rates could alter that by next year).

DON’T MISS -> Seven sensational Tottenham teenagers who could end up saving Levy millions in the market

Gil to be granted final say on Tottenham sale

While Girona will not have a formal option to buy Gil, they will be given first refusal on him. The final decision, when it comes to it, will be Gil’s though.

Given how much the 23-year-old wanted to join Girona, he could be happy to stick with them for the long-term, but first of all it will have to be seen how player and club get on next season.

While Gil prepares to leave, Tottenham are set to sign South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk, although the teenager won’t arrive until January.

So far this summer, they have already signed Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, as well as extending Timo Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig.

Werner included, there is plenty of competition for places in Tottenham’s attack, which would limit Gil’s opportunities for playing time in north London. He should be able to lodge more minutes with Girona, who are based about 100km away from Gil’s birthplace of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Gil, who originally arrived at Tottenham in 2021 in a part-exchange deal involving Erik Lamela with Sevilla, was left out of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the Asian leg of the club’s pre-season tour so he could explore transfer opportunities, and one is now very close to materialising.

The fact he has extended his contract with Tottenham may suggest his time with them isn’t over, but the insertion of the release clause would indicate otherwise.

Hence, Gil could have reached his limit after making 43 appearances for Tottenham. He has never scored for the club.

Tottenham transfers: Santiago Gimenez sets transfer demand as Spurs spy deal after Toney blow

Description

Prolific Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has teased a summer transfer move, but only to a side that matches the Tottenham-linked man’s ambition.

Tottenham have been on the lookout for a new forward to fill the shoes of record-scorer Harry Kane, following his move to German giants Bayern Munich in 2023.

While the England international’s old teammate, Son Heung-min, has continued to fire in the goals for Spurs – with the South Korea international contributing 17 last season – fellow forward Richarlison has been a somewhat underwhelming signing.

The Brazilian joined from Everton in the summer of 2022 but a total of 15 goals in 66 games is not the kind of numbers you expect from a £60m signing.

That, and more, has prompted Tottenham to look for a new number nine, with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Lille’s Jonathan David, among their potential targets.

DON’T MISS: Tottenham plot £128m double swoop which will stun Liverpool, Man City and delight Postecoglou

However, with fellow Brentford forward Igor Thiago suffering a meniscus injury, that may cause the Bees to rethink the possible departure of Toney – who is also wanted by West Ham.

If the England international, who was previously a target for Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, stays with Thomas Frank’s side, Tottenham could pivot towards Feyenoord’s Gimenez.

The Mexico international had an excellent season in 2023/24, scoring 26 goals and bagging eight assists in 41 matches in all competitions under manager Arne Slot – who has now left the Dutch giants to take over at Liverpool.

Naturally, that has caught the attention of potential suitors, but the 22-year-old is not likely to be sold on the cheap, with his contract running for another three years at the Eredivisie outfit.

Gimenez happy at Feyenoord

Now, he himself has spoken about his future. While he admitted there is “interest” from other teams, no concrete bids have come forward – who reportedly is being monitored by clubs in England, Spain, and Italy.

Moreover, the former Cruz Azul man is happy to stay at Feyenoord, and only of if a big opportunity comes along will the 6ft attacker consider a transfer exit.

The Buenos Aires-born player said, via Voetbal Primeur: “There is interest from other clubs, but nothing serious, no offer or anything like that. So, I focus on the here and now.

“If there is an opportunity which compares to Feyenoord, then I have to look at it. After that, we’ll see. I’m an ambitious person, but I’m still here and I have a contract. I’ll do my best for the club until the last day I’m here.

“The only one who knows whether I am ready for the next step or not is God. He determines my future and whether I am ready for it. I have told (CEO) Dennis [te Kloese] and (manager0 Brian [Priske] that they do not have to worry about my focus.”

Tottenham striker signing hits major issue, as Sevilla ‘offered’ double Spurs deal

Tottenham Hotspur will now find it much tougher to raid Brentford for Ivan Toney, while Sevilla have been given the opportunity to sign two of Ange Postecoglou’s players, as per reports.

Tottenham are still on the hunt for a new striker who can properly replace Harry Kane, with Postecoglou deciding he does not want to rely on Richarlison up front during the 2024-25 campaign. Tottenham chiefs are ready to consider big offers for Richarlison in the hope that this will give them the funds to complete a statement striker deal.

Due to Richarlison’s struggles in North London, the only sides likely to pay £50-60million for him are those in Saudi Arabia.

Toney has been backed to replace Richarlison at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The centre-forward has entered the final year of his Brentford contract, setting up a potential £40m summer switch.

DON’T MISS – Exclusive: Tottenham hopes of agreeing Milan transfer fade as price row leads to fresh interest in Girona star

Spurs were given a boost recently as it emerged that Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea had all cooled their interest in Toney. This set up a transfer battle for the 28-year-old between Spurs and their London rivals West Ham United.

But according to the latest reports in the English press, Brentford are now more likely to keep Toney after they were handed a setback themselves.

Brentford signed Igor Thiago as a replacement for the England star, but the former has now picked up a knee injury in pre-season.

As such, Brentford could demand more money before selling Toney to Spurs, or even prevent his exit altogether.

Tottenham transfers: Toney setback as double exit predicted

This would force Postecoglou and Spurs to turn their attention to other strikers, with one option being Jonathan David of Lille.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain claim that agents have ‘offered’ Spurs duo Sergio Reguilon and Bryan Gil to Sevilla in a double deal.

Sevilla boss Garcia Pimienta is searching for a new left-back as he does not trust the ability of Adria Pedrosa, while Marcos Acuna could leave, too.

Sevilla have resultantly been given the chance to bring in Reguilon, who has been told by Postecoglou that he is free to find a new club as he is not in the manager’s plans going forward.

The La Liga side know Reguilon well, as he impressed there during a loan spell in the 2019-20 season prior to joining Spurs.

The 27-year-old full-back is supposedly keen on re-joining Manchester United, but such a move would be a surprise as he failed to make a big impact during a loan spell at Old Trafford in the first half of last season.

Sevilla have been backed to re-sign winger Gil too, who earned a good reputation at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium before heading to Spurs in July 2021.

However, that second deal looks set to fail as Gil has agreed personal terms with Girona and is edging closer to that move.
