Tottenham divided on Thomas Frank sack after Venkatesham told he made a huge MISTAKE - Sources - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s hierarchy are split on the future of Thomas Frank, but the club remain determined not to make a change this season, a well-placed source has told us.

Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham believed he landed the right man in the summer when luring Frank across London from Brentford, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

However, we are now told by sources that Venkatesham was warned by some members of Spurs’ hierarchy that Frank was not a good fit in terms of his system and the Tottenham players.

The source, who spoke to us on the guarantee he would not be named, told us: “Vinai feels Thomas is such a great fit for Spurs in so many ways. A great person, character, who is well-liked, but he was warned that the system would not be a fit.

“There is a real concern in the club, up high, that this is how things are playing out. The players like Thomas, but do they believe in what he is asking? That is the worry.”

Now, with Spurs sitting in 14th and with just one win in their last seven games, including an FA Cup exit to Aston Villa on Saturday, pressure is mounting.

Spurs are ready to invest this month and want Frank to succeed, and insist they do not want to make a mid-season change. But forthcoming games against West Ham and Borussia Dortmund are huge for the manager.

Thomas Frank faces crucial period to save his job

We are told that whilst Tottenham would not describe the current situation as Frank being given a ‘vote of confidence’ it does seem it is close to that situation.

But the frustration among supporters, which has been evident after the FA Cup loss to Aston Villa on Saturday, is not being ignored.

As my colleague, Fraser Fletcher, reported on Thursday (January 8) that Spurs’ board are ‘considering all options.’

However, Fletcher stated how there is a recognition that the squad is well below the level required and whoever the manager is, a major overhaul is needed to bring it up to standard.

Tottenham are yet to make a signing this month, but that is expected to change. They want to bring in a new winger following the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, but they’re also keen to strengthen in several other areas.

It is a crucial period for Frank, who needs to build a squad that fits his system.

But if Spurs fail to pick up positive results against West Ham and Dortmund, he might not get that chance.

Aston Villa rocked as Tottenham gear up for 'now or never' Conor Gallagher signing - Sources - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have continued to explore Conor Gallagher’s situation and amid a ‘definitive move’ made by Aston Villa, they’re aware it’s now or never.

Spurs have been considering a move for the midfielder for some time, as he is also linked to Manchester United and Aston Villa.

The Villa links have been showing particular strength in the last few days and Spurs are alerted to the fact they may have to act soon if they are serious about signing Gallagher.

My colleague, Graeme Bailey, brought news of Villa making a ‘definitive move’ for the 25-year-old on Friday, January 9.

Sources admit there has been some concern at Tottenham over the fact Gallagher’s contract at Atletico Madrid stretches towards the very top of their own wage ceiling,

However, if the finances around his personal terms can be negotiated, there has always been potential of attempting to bring him back to English football.

Now, there are new indications that Spurs remain interested in such a deal on the back of Villa thundering in.

They are becoming stretched in midfield and there is concern about how the second half of the season plays out if they do not add another option to the centre of the park.

Tottenham have long-term interest in the former Chelsea man and did look into a deal before he joined Atleti for £34m.

Sources believe he has an interest in making a switch back to the Premier League, despite a determination to make things work in Spain.

My fellow correspondent Graeme Bailey has been informed Gallagher is ready to return to these shores, and Atleti are prepared to cash in if their demands are met.

Interest in the player comes at a sign when we have also revealed that Tottenham have made discreet enquiries for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

The club are looking to find the right blend of pushing the bar in terms of the quality of signings they can make, while also having an awareness that they need to make sure a certain level of Premier League pedigree exists within the set up.

Tottenham still have not made a decision on Joao Palhinha, who had one of his more impactful performances for them on Saturday.

It is still looking like the choice over whether to trigger the option to buy from Bayern Munich, which is within his loan agreement and worth around £26m, will be made further down the road.

‘He just isn’t Spurs’: Tottenham told to sack Thomas Frank NOW and turn to two familiar faces - TEAMtalk
Description

Thomas Frank has been told, in no uncertain terms, that his time at Tottenham Hotspur is now up and that he should be writing his resignation letter after fans responded to the latest negative result and performance from his side.

Spurs’ FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday was the earliest they have crashed out of the competition in 12 years, with the fans roundly booing the players off at half-time as they trailed 2-0 before a second-half comeback was fended off by the visitors.

However, the pressure is mounting on Frank, who has now won just three of his last 14 games as Tottenham manager, with the club already suffering 11 defeats in all competitions this season.

A rift has also grown between some of the fanbase and the club’s board over a lack of ambition in the transfer market, while results and performances on the field are certainly not helping matters.

Indeed, some supporters have just had enough and want Frank out the door as soon as possible.

Writing on Reddit, winterson84 said: “He needs to stop talking and start writing his resignation letter, he just isn’t spurs”

RallyPigeon also commented: “Bournemouth a few days ago did it for me. I wanted him to finish the year and make plans for a better future. But now I want him sacked asap.

Pluspower also stated: “If he wants us to do things better then he can get the ball rolling by resigning.”

dream_team1012 dived a bit deeper by highlighting a number of issues, adding: “our lack of squad quality atm is obvious, but the sheer absence of coherent coaching from Frank is shocking. his tactics don’t suit this squad’s profile. and after he called Bergvall a “like for like” for Odobert, I’m not even sure he understands how to profile. period. when talent falls short, the system should be working to bridge the gap. instead, it’s widening it. Frank out.”

GoBirds85 also wrote: “Idk why anyone is still backing this guy. He’s never won anything! Why do we think he’s going to be able to turn this around? Jose, Conte, and to a lesser extent Ange all had their defenders in the fan base because they’ve all won. There was hope they could turn things around. How anyone has hope Frank can do the same is baffling.”

AlexKidd316 also wants Frank gone and two familiar faces replacing him, commenting: “This is the perfect chance to sack him. Frank loses to West Ham and there’ll be a riot. An interim loses? Who cares then? Redknapp and Carrick. Now.”

It really does feel like crunch time for Frank, where anything less than a win against West Ham at home next Saturday could see him shown the door.

More Tottenham news: Attacker bid tabled; Dragusin snub

Tottenham have reportedly tabled an offer of £52million to sign an incredible Real Madrid attacking talent who can help fill the void left by Mohammed Kudus’ enforced absence.

Elsewhere, Spurs have rejected a loan bid from Roma for Radu Dragusin, though a loan exit involving a different Spurs player is entirely possible this month, according to reports.

Finally, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an emphatic update on the chances of Tottenham signing Omar Marmoush in the wake of Manchester City landing Antoine Semenyo.

Tottenham REJECT bid for record-breaking star but second deal possible - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have rejected a loan bid from Roma for Radu Dragusin, though a loan exit involving a different Spurs player is entirely possible this month, according to reports.

Dragusin, 23, became the most expensive Romanian footballer of all time upon joining Tottenham two years ago. The centre-back cost €25m when signed from Genoa, though suffered an ACL injury last January that robbed the defender of nearly a year of his career.

Dragusin has since returned to full fitness and has been included in Spurs’ last six matchday squads.

However, when all are fit, Dragusin appears unlikely to feature all that much in north London, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven the first choice pairing and Kevin Danso providing adequate support.

As such, Serie A title challengers Roma sensed an opportunity to strike and according to Sky Italia, they lodged a loan approach. Per the report, the loan bid also contained an option to buy, though how much for was not made clear.

Tottenham have now responded to the bid, with Sky Sports in England confirming the offer has been rejected.

Whether negotiations will continue or whether that ends the matter entirely should become clear in the coming hours and days.

However, if recent comments from Dragusin’s agent are anything to go by, Dragusin would be open to a loan spell away.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, Dragusin’s agent, Florin Manea, said: “I’m waiting for Tottenham to say yes to Roma to get into the heart of it.

“There are a couple of offers for him, but Italy is special for Radu and he did very well in Serie A. He is a gladiator and gladiators are at home in Rome.”

Different loan possible

Another of Tottenham’s first-team stars has been linked with departing on loan this month – Mathys Tel.

The 20-year-old joined outright in the summer for £30m following a loan spell from Bayern Munich, though just six months into his permanent stint in north London, he already wants out.

That’s according to French reporter Fabrice Hawkins, who is very credible and reliable when it comes to transfer news.

Taking to X, Hawkins wrote: “Mathys Tel wants more playing time at Tottenham and will be listening to offers this winter. A departure is not out of the question.”

Sources have explained to TEAMtalk that Tottenham are unlikely to sanction a loan exit, though one cannot be ruled out entirely this early in the window.

Of course, the chances of Tel getting his wish and leaving on loan would increase if Spurs sign new forwards in the coming days and weeks…

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly tabled an offer of £52million to sign an incredible Real Madrid attacking talent who can help fill the void left by Mohammed Kudus’ enforced absence, as the north London outfit look to appease a fanbase that is growing increasingly agitated.

Spurs supporters once again let their feelings be known as the club crashed out of the FA Cup to Aston Villa on Saturday evening, with their last realistic hope of winning a trophy this season now gone.

The unrest follows Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven’s clash with Tottenham fans after the 3-2 loss at Bournemouth in midweek. The supporters’ trust has also accused the club of ‘lacking ambition’, amid a worrying run of form under Thomas Frank, and also highlighted concerns over any significant signing news in the January window.

While a deal for talented Brazilian left-back Souza is set to be announced, the Santos star is only 19 and is unlikely to push for a starting spot straight away.

At this stage, Tottenham need new arrivals who can immediately improve a team that is struggling with injuries, confidence and adopting too pragmatic an approach from the increasingly under pressure Frank.

However, fresh reports from Spain claim that Spurs have made a significant move to sign a player they were also interested in over the summer, Real star Brahim Diaz.

Speculative Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that the north London club have put a £52m (€60m / $70m) offer on the table for the Moroccan forward, who is currently playing a starring role for his country at AFCON.

Indeed, Diaz made history on Friday as he became the first Moroccan player ever to score in five consecutive AFCON matches in a single edition, with his side booking a semi-final spot with victory over Cameroon.

Things have not gone quite so well at Real Madrid this season, though, with Diaz being handed just three LaLiga starts this far, along with one in the Champions League.

While his stats – one goal and two assists in 18 games – do not exactly scream a player who would give Tottenham an immediate lift, the pedigree and talent is clearly there.

Diaz could immediately slot on the right flank for a Spurs side who will be missing the influential Kudus until April, having also sold his backup Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35m.

The 26-year-old can also play as a No.10, giving Frank more flexibility with his attack and also another creative outlet in the continued absence of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Want more breaking transfer lines from original sources? Add TEAMtalk as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust.

Diaz can be ‘the best in the world’

His incredible efforts for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations have certainly not gone unnoticed, with several top European sides now said to be in the mix for his signature. However, it’s Tottenham who have taken their interest a step further by actually tabling an offer.

The £52m fee is a figure Real are reported to be considering, especially for a player who has largely struggled for game time so far this season.

However, that value may well have gone up after his heroics in his homeland, with his coach Walid Regragui making a stunning claim after the quarter-final win over Cameroon.

Regragui said: “He can be the best player in the world. Of course, today he is the X factor of my team.

“I want to say congratulations to him because now he understands what it means to have Moroccan blood: to run, to fight and to give what you have.”

Should the report be accurate, Tottenham will look to secure a deal for Diaz as soon as he returns from AFCON, as they aim to ease the pressure on Frank and appease fans with a strong finish to a hugely disappointing season so far.

€40m Greek winger ready to join Liverpool in January but it’s Tottenham who plan mid-season bid - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur might be planning to make a bid for Christos Tzolis to bring him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this month, but the Club Brugge winger has publicly revealed his desire to move to Anfield and star for Liverpool instead.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Graeme Bailey, reported on January 3 that Tottenham are keen on a 2026 deal for Tzolis. The north London club are on the hunt for a left-winger in the January transfer window and believe that the Club Brugge star would be a great signing for Thomas Frank’s side.

Tottenham have been following Tzolis in recent months and have the 23-year-old on their list for a potential bid in the January transfer window.

Sources have told us that Club Brugge would demand at least €40million (£35m, $47m) to let the Greek winger leave in the middle of the season.

While Tottenham will feel that they have the financial capability to meet those demands, last season’s Europa League winners will not be pleased to hear that Tzolis wants to join Liverpool.

The winger has said that he is not going to push for a move away from the Belgian club in the middle of the season, but a switch to Liverpool or Barcelona would be something that he would jump at.

Tzolis told Het Nieuwsblad when asked about joining Atletico Madrid: “I want to go to a top team. That’s all I can say.”

When asked if he could leave in January, the winger replied: “I’m not aware of any concrete interest at the moment, so I’m not even considering it. Maybe you know more than I do (laughs).

“I’d like to win the title here first. Although you never know, so I can’t say with 100% certainty that I’ll stay this winter.

“If a crazy team comes along, like Barcelona, Liverpool… Anyway, you know what I mean. But I don’t think that will happen in the winter.”

Tzolis added: “Don’t get me wrong: I’m really happy here.

“But I feel ready for a team that’s competing for trophies in one of the four biggest European leagues. That’s my ambition.

“I only want to leave Club Brugge for a truly top team.”

Christos Tzolis addresses Crystal Palace interest

There are no concrete reports that Liverpool and Barcelona are interested in Tzolis, but it would not come as a surprise if the two clubs start to take a closer look at him.

The Greece international has scored 11 goals and given 15 assists in 30 appearances for Club Brugge so far this season.

During the 2024/25 campaign, Tzolis found the back of the net 21 times and registered 16 assists in 56 matches in all competitions.

Crystal Palace wanted to sign Tzolis in the summer of 2025, and the winger has now addressed interest from the London club.

Tzolis said: “That interest came just before the match against Rangers, so my focus was on that.”

When asked if he was tempted to join Palace, the winger said: “A little bit. I like the way Crystal Palace plays football.

“I considered whether it might be a good opportunity or not, but I immediately told Devy Rigaux and the staff that I wouldn’t push.

“It would be bad for the team if I didn’t want to train or play because I wanted to secure a transfer. That’s not how I am.

“A month earlier, I had signed a new contract. But okay, everyone listens when there’s an offer, although I didn’t want to go to Crystal Palace at any cost.

“Staying was also perfectly fine. I don’t regret anything. On the contrary, this was even the best choice.”

A winger has publicly revealed that he wants to play for Liverpool, who have been actively scouting him this season.

As for Tottenham, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso wants to sign one of Thomas Frank’s best and most important players, according to a report in the Spanish media.

Xabi Alonso gives ‘final approval’ to ‘stratospheric’ Real Madrid ‘offer’ for Tottenham’s highest-paid player – report - TEAMtalk
Description

Real Madrid are planning to raid Tottenham Hotspur for one of their best players, according to a report, which has also claimed Xabi Alonso’s stance, but TEAMtalk believes that a deal is unlikely.

Tottenham are having a disappointing season, with Thomas Frank’s side as low as 14th in the Premier League table. Frank’s future at Tottenham is also far from certain, with a source telling our transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, that “the board is considering all options”.

While Real Madrid themselves have recovered from their slump in form under manager Alonso, there is a need at Estadio Bernabeu to sign at least one central defender in 2026, preferably in the January transfer window.

David Alaba is out of contract at Real Madrid next summer, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano saying that the Austrian will not be handed a new deal.

Antonio Rudiger, too, will become a free agent at the end of the season, as things stand, while Dean Huijsen is still very young and has had a mixed time in his debut season at Madrid, and Raul Asencio has not always been convincing.

Eder Militao is a brilliant defender, but the Brazilian has had injury problems, like Alaba and Rudiger.

According to Fichajes, Madrid have decided to fix their defensive issues by targeting Tottenham star Cristian Romero.

Romero signed a new contract with Tottenham in August 2025 that runs until the summer of 2029.

Sources have told our transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, that Romero is now Tottenham’s highest-paid player, earning around £150,000-a-week basic but closer to £200,000-a-week when one factors in bonuses.

However, that has not stopped Madrid from believing that they would be able to sign Romero in the January transfer window.

Fichajes has reported that Madrid are ‘preparing a stratospheric offer’ of €80million (£69.4m, $93.1m) to convince Tottenham to sell them Romero.

The Spanish news outlet has claimed that Madrid manager Alonso has ‘given his final approval to the transfer after analysing the defender’s outstanding performances in England’.

According to the report, Romero is not happy with Tottenham’s underwhelming performances under Frank this season and wants the north London club to show more ambition in the transfer market to make the squad better.

Real Madrid want Micky van de Ven, not Cristian Romero – sources

Fichajes is not one of the most reliable sources, so one should be cautious about this claim that Madrid are keen on Romero.

Romero signed a new contract with Spurs only last summer, and he must have done so because he is happy with the club and their long-term ambition.

The Argentina international is 27 now, and while he would be a brilliant signing for Madrid, no other media outlets are reporting that Los Blancos want him.

It is also very unlikely that Madrid will make a major signing in the middle of the season.

However, there have been historical links between the Spanish giants and Romero.

The Sun reported on May 12, 2025, that Madrid were targeting Romero, but he subsequently signed a new deal with Spurs and Los Blancos eventually secured the services of Huijsen from Bournemouth.

Madrid, though, are interested in Micky van de Ven, Romero’s main centre-back partner for Tottenham when fit and available.

Our transfer correspondent, Dean Jones, reported on December 10 that Real Madrid have Van de Ven on their radar for a potential 2026 deal.

Our transfer correspondent, Dean Jones, said on December 10: “Van de Ven has been mentioned in the same way that Madrid have looked at Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi, but it is different because those three players are becoming free agents and that is a market Madrid are very keen to exploit when they can.

“Van de Ven would be a much different situation as he has more than three years remaining on his current deal and the club are hoping to tie him up to a new one, on better terms over an extended period.

“Obviously, Madrid have the power to turn any player’s head, but they would have to pay big money for him as Spurs really do not want to lose him.

“They consider his experience and leadership to be absolutely vital, on top of the fact he’s a great defender and can also be a threat in terms of scoring goals.”

However, Spurs do not want to lose the Netherlands international defender, with Bailey reporting on December 27 that Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham is in talks with Van de Ven’s camp and plans to hand him a bumper new contract.

Tottenham transfer news: £30m star 'listening to exit offers' as Frank fails to satisfy big demand

Tottenham stunned with £30m star ‘listening to exit offers’ as Frank fails to satisfy big demand – journalist - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly facing a battle to keep striker Mathys Tel this month, with the player open to offers to leave after issuing Thomas Frank with something of an ultimatum, though our sources can reveal why any exit request is likely not to go down well in N17.

The French striker joined Spurs on loan last January, opting for the move to north London over rival interest from Manchester United. That decision proved a wise one, as within months of his arrival, Tel was celebrating a victory in the Europa League final after they recorded a 1-0 win over the Red Devils during the San Mames Stadium-staged final.

The 20-year-old then turned that loan arrangement into a permanent £30m (€35m, $41m) transfer after being told he had no future at Bayern Munich.

However, Tel is yet to truly convince since moving to N17. In his 38 appearances so far, the France Under-21 international has a modest six goals, while two assists in that time have seen him deliver a goal contribution just over every 216 minutes of action.

Despite a lengthy injury absence for Dominic Solanke this season, Tel has been unable to convince Thomas Frank he is worthy of regular action, making just five starts in the Premier League so far and zero in the Champions League.

Often the second choice to Richarlison, Tel has come off the bench on 12 other occasions, thus far.

Now, according to well-connected French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Tel has become frustrated by his lack of regular action and has made it clear he is open to a potential exit opportunity month.

Writing on X, Hawkins stated: ‘EXCL Mathys Tel wants more playing time at Tottenham and will be listening to offers this winter. A departure is not out of the question.’

However, our sources have revealed Spurs are unlikely to sanction an exit this month – and for good reason…

Tel frustrated at Spurs – but exit chances are slim

We understand that Tel’s frustrations first began when he was overlooked by Frank for Tottenham’s Champions League squad, though the Frenchman was later added when the severity of Solanke’s injury quickly came to light.

But with the club already sanctioning the £35m sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, Frank is making it clear he does not want to weaken his attacking options further by letting Tel depart.

And even though Solanke is closing in on his long-awaited return after being absent since 23 August with a problematic ankle injury that has required surgery, Frank knows that, after the injury sustained to Mohammed Kudus – the Ghanaian is now sidelined until Easter time with a thigh injury – he is not in a position to further reduce his limited attacking options.

Frank also indicated earlier this week that, despite a lack of game time for the Frenchman, he will be needed through the rest of the season as Spurs compete on three fronts.

Frank said: “I think it’s pretty fair to say that we are maybe a little bit short on offensive options.

“I think also it’s fair, there’s no one who’s really grabbed that shirt on the left-hand side, so I think that’s definitely up for grabs. I think it was a positive performance from Mathys. I think he did some positive things and got into good situations.

“Let’s see what will happen against Bournemouth, but it’s also that fine balance of giving some players the trust for a run of games, so they can maybe hopefully find a bit of rhythm and also increase their performance level.

“Then the tactical approach of the opponents, which players fit to that and get the right mix and balance in the team, but Matty in general, was positive.”

Fabrizio Romano drops bombshell on Tottenham signing Omar Marmoush from Man City

Description

Fabrizio Romano has delivered an emphatic update on the chances of Tottenham signing Omar Marmoush in the wake of Manchester City landing Antoine Semenyo.

Man City signed Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5m, rising to £64m through add-ons. The winger is equally adept at operating on either flank and the hope is his arrival will lighten the goalscoring burden on Erling Haaland.

Semenyo’s signing has also re-ignited speculation one of Man City’s attacking corps could be sacrificed in the same window.

Oscar Bobb has been mentioned, as has Omar Marmoush. Indeed, transfer insider, Fraser Fletcher, exclusively revealed back on December 21 that Tottenham were exploring a move for the Egypt international who is currently at AFCON.

Fellow reporter Dean Jones subsequently backed up Fletcher’s claims, with Tottenham desperate to sign a potent new attacker in a campaign in which they’ve looked painfully blunt in the final third.

However, Jones was later informed that City’s intention was to retain Marmoush even if they landed Semenyo, which they since have.

And per the latest from transfer guru Romano, not only do City not want to sell, but Marmoush doesn’t want to leave this month either, even after Semenyo’s arrival.

“Man City signed Antoine Semenyo, and so adding one more player to their roster,” began Romano on his YouTube channel.

“But my understanding is that this doesn’t mean Omar Marmoush has to leave Man City in the January transfer window.

“First of all he’s focused on AFCON, so there’s nothing moving. But also I’m told that even after AFCON Marmoush is not desperate to leave Man City.

“He wants to compete for his place and spend the next six months at the club trying to show his best level possible and to help Man City.”

Romano concluded by stating Marmoush’s situation could change come the summer if he’s continued to feature sparingly over the next six months.

But for now at least, neither Marmoush or Man City have any desire to part ways this month and interested suitors must either look elsewhere or revisit the situation at season’s end.

Description

Tottenham now have a club-to-club agreement and personal terms sealed for the signing of Brazilian left-back Souza, and TEAMtalk can confirm the amount they’ll pay, along with who they’re looking at next.

The left-back position has become something of a problem at Tottenham, with our insider, Fraser Fletcher, revealing the club’s doubts over the long-term viability of Destiny Udogie.

With Ben Davies now well into his thirties and Djed Spence more naturally suited to the right-back role, new blood is required on the left.

Tottenham recently opened the bidding for Santos left-back Souza to the tune of €8m. Transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, revealed the Brazilian side were willing to sell, but had targeted a healthier €20m figure.

Tottenham refused to take no for an answer and returned with an improved second offer worth roughly €15m.

That came after Fabrizio Romano revealed the 19-year-old had agreed personal terms with Spurs, meaning a club-to-club agreement was all that stood between Spurs and a full agreement.

Now, Bailey has returned with the goods once again, revealing to TEAMtalk that Tottenham and Santos have shaken hands on the overall fee.

Bailey explained on Friday afternoon: “Santos sources confirm to TEAMtalk that a fee has been agreed for Souza – worth just under £14million.

“Payment terms across the deal are being finalised, but with the player’s terms in hand – deal is now close and Tottenham have won the race for his signature.”

Souza first, Luca Netz next?

As mentioned, Spurs have concerns over the left-back position and with Udogie’s future uncertain, Souza might not be the only new face in that part of the squad.

Earlier this week, Fraser Fletcher brought news of Tottenham taking a close look at Borussia Monchengladbach’s Luca Netz, who would be signed as well as Souza and not instead of.

Netz, 22, has been on Spurs’ radar for some time and is primed to become a free agent when his contract expires next summer.

However, Spurs are eager to accelerate the process and secure his services as early as this January transfer window.

Early conversations have happened, with the north London club prepared to table a modest fee to pry him away from the German side mid-season.
