Ornstein confirms Thomas Frank to Tottenham timeline as Dane pushes Levy to sign Mbeumo alternative - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly being urged by No.1 managerial target Thomas Frank to move for a Bryan Mbeumo alternative, while a timeline on the Dane’s appointment has also been revealed.

Spurs are close to striking a deal for Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou after the Australian was given his marching orders on Friday, just weeks after delivering the club their first trophy in 17 years.

As soon as Tottenham talks with Frank were confirmed, rumours exploded over the current Brentford boss taking £60million frontman Mbeumo with him – despite United offers already being rejected for the Bees talisman.

As TEAMtalk have previously reported, Mbeumo has already said ‘yes’ to an Old Trafford switch, and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the forward is still waiting on United as his ‘priority’ move, despite Tottenham’s interest.

To that end, a fresh report from GiveMeSport states that Frank wants Levy to win the race for Crystal Palace standout Eberechi Eze – if he cannot be reunited with Mbeumo.

The report adds that Frank has ‘approved’ Tottenham attempting to sign Eze, with a concrete move likely to come later this summer for a player who is expected to be in high demand after a stunning season with the FA Cup-winning Eagles.

Eze is likely to cost a bit more than Mbeumo, however, given that he has a £68m release clause that is set to activate this summer and expires around mid-August.

Ornstein gives update on Frank appointment

Meanwhile, The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims that Tottenham are hoping to agree a deal to appoint Frank as their new manager in the next 48 hours – a claim that TEAMtalk can confirm.

Spurs have been in contact with the Dane and the fact that there is a healthy relationship between the two clubs means a deal should not be too difficult to conclude.

The only current slight sticking point is negotiations around Frank’s £10m release clause, although that should is expected to be ironed out one way or another.

Ornstein also adds that Frank will be bringing his backroom staff with him after the majority of Postecoglou’s left following his sacking.

Frank was quickly identified as Tottenham’s first-choice option after it became apparent that the former Celtic boss would be relieved of his duties.

He will take over a club back in the Champions League next season and expected to be active in the market this summer after their lack of overall squad strength was shown up in a major way this past campaign.

Exclusive: Tottenham plotting move for 24 G/A African winger as price tag, rival suitors revealed - TEAMtalk
Description

RB Salzburg winger Dorgeles Nene is becoming one of the most followed youngsters in Europe, and Tottenham are considering a move this summer, TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal.

We understand that the 22-year-old Mali international, who is under contract until 2028, is attracting interest from multiple clubs across England, Germany, and Italy.

From the Premier League, Tottenham have been monitoring Nene’s progress closely. While no formal move has been made, the club view him as a player with strong potential and he is on their radar.

Nene made 46 appearances across all competitions for Salzburg in 2024/25, notching 15 goals and nine assists in the process. A versatile player, he can play as a right or left-winger, and also as a centre-forward.

Spurs are looking closely at various targets despite currently not having a manager, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, and Nene figures on their shortlist.

The promising forward feels he is ready to take on a new challenge and believes he has what it takes to play at the highest level.

Spurs must move quickly to strike a deal, however, as other top clubs are also circling Nene…

Tottenham face competition for Nene

TEAMtalk understands that interest in Nene is also growing in Germany. Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg are both tracking him after being impressed by his recent performances in Austria, and both clubs are considering him as a future option.

In Italy, Lazio and Fiorentina are among the clubs that have followed his development in recent months. However, neither club has made a concrete approach so far. Their interest remains in the scouting phase.

Salzburg are open to selling Nene this summer if the right offer arrives. The Austrian club has set an asking price between €20m (£16.8m) and €25m (£21m).

Nene is also open to taking the next step in his career and is evaluating new opportunities across top European leagues.

Who is Dorgeles Nene?

Joining Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021, Dorgeles had previously developed at Guidars in his native Mali.

A right-footed attacking midfielder, he initially started out playing for Salzburg’s feeder club FC Liefering on loan for a year, scoring 10 goals from 31 games.

His next step was to earn top-flight experience in Austria with SV Ried (16 appearances and two goals) and Belgium with Westerlo (36 appearances and 13 goals) before his breakthrough back in Salzburg, having earned his senior international debut along the way as well.

Dorgeles scored five goals from 30 games in his first season with Salzburg and then 15 from 46 in his second.

Standing out for his dribbling ability, Dorgeles can thrive on the wing, playing tight to the touchline. He is comfortable on either flank or through the middle, keen to make a scoring impact with his direct approach.

In the 2024-25 Champions League, despite Salzburg exiting in the League Phase, Dorgeles ranked in the 83rd percentile of attacking midfielders and wingers for successful take-ons per 90 minutes.

He’s also engaged defensively and shows eagerness to win the ball back, but it’s his desire to contribute in the final third with explosive intent that’s making his name for him.

Bryan Mbeumo: Choice between Man Utd and Tottenham made, as Thomas Frank agrees terms - TEAMtalk
Description

Fabrizio Romano has revealed which of Manchester United and Tottenham Bryan Mbeumo is giving ‘priority’ to signing with at a time when his manager at Brentford, Thomas Frank, has agreed terms with Spurs.

Mbeumo is expected to leave Brentford this summer, with Man Utd initially emerging as the overwhelming favourite to secure his services.

The 25-year-old left-footer signalled his intention to sign with the Red Devils despite their lack of Champions League football. Among those Mbeumo originally overlooked were Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle.

Man Utd are ready to pay Mbeumo a weekly wage somewhere in the £150,000-£200,000 range. They’ve tabled two bids thus far, with the second worth £50m plus £10m in add-ons.

Brentford’s dream valuation is £70m, though the Bees are using Matheus Cunha’s £62.5m transfer to Man Utd as a more realistic guideline. As such, United’s second bid in terms of total value (£60m) fell just £2.5m short of the sum Brentford will do business for.

The signs all looked rosy for the Red Devils, though movement at Tottenham has sparked concern.

Brentford boss, Thomas Frank, is in line to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou in the Spurs dugout.

According to Ben Jacobs, Frank has verbally agreed terms with Spurs and TEAMtalk has been informed the north London club are racing to close a deal with all haste.

The fact Frank is on his way to Tottenham has fuelled speculation he could immediately reunite with Mbeumo.

Indeed, the Daily Mirror claimed Frank had requested Spurs make a move for Mbeumo and redirect his move from Old Trafford to Tottenham.

A follow-up from the Sunday Mirror then revealed Spurs are ready to put a contract proposal on the table, though the numbers involved – £130,000-a-week – are less than what United are offering.

One factor that could work in Spurs’ favour is their ability to offer Champions League football, though as mentioned, Mbeumo is willing to join United despite their free midweeks next season.

In any case, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided a brief update on the latest he’s hearing regarding Mbeumo and his intentions.

Via his newsletter for GiveMeSport, Romano insisted Mbeumo is still giving ‘priority’ to Man Utd.

“Mbeumo is waiting for Man United as a priority. Thomas Frank is close to Spurs so we will see what happens if he joins; but Mbeumo at the moment is waiting to see what happens with United.”

Tottenham closing in on top manager target as Johan Lange takes charge over deal - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham are ready to push on and complete a deal for their new manager, with technical director Johan Lange spearheading efforts to appoint Brentford’s Thomas Frank as the club’s new head coach and with the club pushing to secure a deal as quickly as possible.

Following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, despite his Europa League success, sources state Spurs are prepared to trigger Frank’s £8m release clause to secure his services, signalling their ambition to secure one of the league’s brightest and most respected managers.

Frank, 51, has earned widespread acclaim for his transformative work at Brentford, guiding the Bees from the Championship to a stable Premier League outfit since taking charge in 2018.

His balanced tactical approach, blending disciplined defending with fluid attacking play, has made Brentford a tough opponent for top clubs.

Sources highlight Frank’s ability to elevate players, his exceptional man-management skills, and his knack for developing young talent as key factors driving Spurs’ interest.

These qualities align with Tottenham’s recent transfer policy under Lange, which focuses on signing promising players under 23, such as Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

The Dane’s prior working relationship with Lange, a fellow compatriot, is seen as a significant advantage, potentially smoothing negotiations and fostering a cohesive vision at the club.

Thomas Frank is ready to join Tottenham

Frank’s media-savvy demeanor is another asset, with insiders describing him as “elite” in handling press scrutiny – a vital skill given Tottenham’s high-profile status.

His enthusiasm for the role is evident, with sources indicating Frank is eager to take the next step in his career at a club with Spurs’ resources and ambitions.

While Tottenham have considered other candidates like Fulham’s Marco Silva and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Frank remains the leading contender, as TEAMtalk first revealed all the way back on December 13.

His potential appointment could also see him target Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, although the dynamic winger has stated he wants to join Manchester United.

With talks set to progress rapidly, Spurs fans await confirmation of who will be leading them next season, hopeful they can deliver the stability and success the club craves.

TEAMtalk understands that Tottenham are pushing to tie up the appointment in the very near future, so more developments regarding Frank are expected imminently.

Son Heung-min tipped to LEAVE Tottenham after Ange Postecoglou sack - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min could follow axed manager Ange Postecoglou out the exit door, with reports suggesting he could quit the London club this summer.

The South Korean international’s contract with Spurs expires in 2026, and speculation is growing that he may have played his last game for the side.

Postecoglou’s sacking has been met with anger from some Tottenham supporters, who believe that the Aussie coach should’ve been given more time after leading his team to Europa League glory, despite finishing in 17th in the Premier League.

One thing that never happened during his time with Spurs was Postecoglou losing the dressing room, as had been evidenced by all the support he has received since his dismissal.

Indeed, as TEAMtalk have reported, the likes of Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Micky van de Ven have all taken the sacking particularly badly.

Spurs skipper Son also has great appreciation for Postecoglou, writing on Instagram after his dismissal: “Gaffer. You’ve changed the trajectory of this club.

“You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did.

“You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades. We will have those memories for life.

“You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It’s been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close. I am a better player and a better person because of you.

“Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.”

Son Heung-min could leave Tottenham – report

According to The Telegraph, Son has given some of his Tottenham teammates and staff the impression that he might leave the club this summer, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

The 32-year-old is still an important player and leader at Spurs, but at the age of 32, is past his best. His contract situation also adds to the uncertainty.

And now, former Spurs scout Bryan King has told Tottenham News that Son could leave Spurs, and the club could collect a similar fee to the £100m one they accepted for former striker Harry Kane.

“Son will get a big-money contract if he moves to Saudi Arabia,” King said.

“Everyone else who has gone there has received a big-money offer, so why would a player of Son’s stature not receive that same kind of offer.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham receive a similar fee for Son as they did for Harry Kane. Son has been at Tottenham for 10 years, and he’s been a marvellous servant to the club. He has one year left on his contract, and Tottenham could cash in, as could the player.

“If Son does head to Saudi Arabia, he won’t have to worry for the rest of his life, nor will his family. However, Tottenham will need to find a replacement for a player of that quality.”

Bryan Mbeumo: Stunning Tottenham offer revealed after Man Utd self

Bryan Mbeumo: Staggering Tottenham offer revealed, as Man Utd self-sabotage - TEAMtalk
Description

The details in what Tottenham will offer Bryan Mbeumo have come to light as Thomas Frank attempts to hijack Manchester United’s move, and of three critical factors, two are working in Spurs’ favour.

Frank is on course to replace Ange Postecoglou as manager of Tottenham. Talks are already well underway and the Dane is keen to take the next step in his career by joining a ‘big six’ side like Spurs.

According to the Mirror, one of Frank’s first acts as Tottenham boss could be to hijack Man Utd’s move for Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old recently signalled his intention to sign for the Red Devils ahead of Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham.

Man Utd have tabled two bids so far, with the highest totalling £60m (£50m plus £10m in add-ons). Brentford’s dream valuation is £70m, though they’re understood to be willing to do business for a fee similar to the one Man Utd are paying to sign Matheus Cunha – £62.5m.

The signs all looked rosy for Man Utd, though Frank now being days away from joining Tottenham has thrown a spanner in the works.

Frank has reportedly requested Spurs enter the bidding for Mbeumo whose 20 Premier League goals last term were bettered only by Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23) and Erling Haaland (22).

And according to an update from the Sunday Mirror, Tottenham are prepared to make a move.

However, the report insisted the wages Spurs are prepared to pay are LOWER than the sums Man Utd have already put forward.

The Sunday Mirror stated: ‘Spurs would offer Mbeumo around £130,000-a-week.’

That falls some way below the proposal Man Utd have already tabled, which the report states would see Mbeumo pocket a salary in the £150,000-£200,000-a-week range.

As such, Tottenham would appear to stand very little chance of hijacking United’s move, though there are two other factors working in their favour…

Who’ll win the race for Mbeumo?

The first is the Frank connection, with the Dane helping to turn Mbeumo into the feared forward he’s become.

Secondly, Tottenham can offer Champions League football, with their participation in that competition secured at Man Utd’s expense.

United tasted defeat for the fourth successive time against Spurs this season in the Europa League final.

Man Utd with their greater European pedigree and vastly more experienced players like Harry Maguire, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes were favourites pre-match.

Yet United produced a turgid display in Bilbao and talisman Fernandes failed to make any impact whatsoever as the Red Devils surrendered UCL football to Tottenham.

Mbeumo is willing to join Man Utd even without UCL football, though it could factor into his thinking if Frank can convince the forward to consider performing a U-turn and joining Tottenham.

If Spurs were willing to offer a higher salary than United, they’d have a hattrick of factors working in their favour.

But if the Sunday Mirror’s report is accurate, it’s still the Red Devils who have the advantage from a financial perspective.

Thomas Frank picks Mbeumo as first Tottenham signing with Man Utd hijack ON

Thomas Frank picks Mbeumo as first Tottenham signing with Man Utd hijack ON - TEAMtalk
Description

Thomas Frank is on course to become the new Tottenham manager and has demanded the club hijack Manchester United’s move for Bryan Mbeumo, according to a report.

Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday, with the Australian paying the price for a truly ghoulish league campaign. Postecoglou did deliver the club’s first major trophy since 2008, though 22 defeats in the league and finishing one place outside the relegation zone made his position untenable.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is Spurs’ No 1 choice to take the reins. Talks with the Dane are in full swing and multiple sources all suggest a deal will be agreed.

Taking to X, reporter Ben Jacobs stated: “Thomas Frank has told Brentford he wants to leave for Spurs. Frank’s camp are already in talks over terms, with the Brentford boss the clear frontrunner to replace Ange Postecoglou.”

Also reporting on X, Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Tottenham are aware of Thomas Frank’s position: he wants the job and he’s keen on becoming new Spurs coach.”

Frank’s first act as the new Tottenham manager could be a monumental one, with the Mirror claiming he’s requested Spurs bring Bryan Mbeumo with him to north London.

The forward is expected to leave Brentford this summer, though had looked on course to join Man Utd.

Mbeumo has already signalled his intention to sign for the Red Devils ahead of other clubs like Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham.

However, Mbeumo’s decision was made PRIOR to Postecoglou’s dismissal and before Frank was lined up by Spurs.

The Mirror stated Frank hopes it is not too late to change Mbeumo’s mind and given Brentford are still to agree a deal with United, his wish may come true.

Man Utd raised the stakes over the last 48 hours when lodging an improved second bid worth £50m plus £10m in add-ons. That comes close to Brentford’s valuation who are using the £62.5m Matheus Cunha deal as a guideline.

Yet if Frank gets his way and can convince Mbeumo to redirect his future from Man Utd to Tottenham, Spurs will spring one of the biggest shocks in the transfer window so far.

The Mirror stated: ‘He (Frank) is now ready for his next challenge and sees the Tottenham job as the ideal opportunity.

‘Talks have already begun about moving across the capital, but Frank has made it clear he wants to bring one of his leading lights with him.

‘Bryan Mbeumo is linked with a £60million switch to Manchester United, who have now submitted two bids for the Cameroon frontman, but Frank wants Tottenham to swoop in and win the race for his signature.

‘It would be a statement of intent from the Danish manager, who can use the lure of Champions League football in negotiations. Mbeumo has just enjoyed his best season to date in front of goal and is expected to move on.’

Who will Bryan Mbeumo choose?

As mentioned, Tottenham have the added appeal of Champions League football. Ironically, their participation in Europe’s premier competition came at Man Utd’s expense after Spurs sunk the Red Devils in the Europa League final.

TEAMtalk understands that as of Sunday morning, Mbeumo’s intention is still to sign for Man Utd and follow through with a transfer to Old Trafford.

Personal terms are not yet agreed, but are not expected to be an issue for Man Utd.

As such, and given United’s improved second bid comes close to Brentford’s target valuation, time is against Frank and Tottenham who must act fast if they’re to spring a surprise.

Thomas Frank to Tottenham accelerates as Brentford identify replacement - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are making progress in discussions to land Thomas Frank as their new head coach, with sources revealing to TEAMtalk that Francesco Farioli could replace the Dane at Brentford.

Tottenham were facing a tricky decision over Ange Postecoglou after a remarkable season in which they finished way down in 17th in the Premier League but managed to end their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League. Postecoglou insisted he ‘always wins things in his second year’ and he delivered, with his Tottenham side beating Manchester United in Bilbao.

However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy decided to sack Postecoglou on Friday evening.

Levy and fellow Spurs chiefs simply could not look beyond the club’s awful league campaign in which they lost 22 out of 38 matches.

The search for Postecoglou’s replacement is underway and Frank has been installed as Spurs’ main target.

TEAMtalk revealed on Monday that Spurs have held positive talks with Frank and have learned he would be very much open to replacing Postecoglou.

Frank has an £8million (€9.5m) release clause in his contract, but Spurs feel it is worth paying after the excellent work he has done at Brentford.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Spurs are ‘advancing’ on the 51-year-old’s appointment, with ‘more talks to follow next week’.

Spurs are ‘optimistic’ they will ‘make it happen soon’. We understand an official bid from Spurs is in the works.

Spurs also made contact for ex-Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi, but he has communicated his decision to remain at Marseille.

TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher has revealed that Brentford are bracing themselves for Frank to leave and have identified Farioli as a potential replacement.

The Italian is keen to speak with Brentford as he is hopeful of managing in the Premier League for the first time.

He wants a project where can build a top team and Brentford could offer him exactly that.

Under Frank’s guidance, the Bees gained promotion to the Premier League for the first time and have since established themselves as a comfortable mid-table team.

DIVE DEEPER 🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Inside Tottenham’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou

Frank to Spurs, Farioli to Brentford?

Farioli has also been linked with the Spurs job, but Levy would rather appoint someone with proven Premier League experience such as Frank.

Farioli is only 36 years old but has built up a great reputation following his time at Nice and the early stages of his Ajax spell.

However, his Ajax side suffered an historic collapse towards the end of the 2024-25 campaign, letting slip a nine-point lead with five games remaining to gift PSV the Eredivisie title.

Farioli was visibly emotional after the final game of the season and subsequently left Ajax.

While this collapse will of course be worrying for Brentford fans, Bees chiefs believe he could emerge as one of the best young coaches in England with the right backing and with players of the correct mentality.

Returning to Spurs, it has been suggested that the appointment of Frank could help them sign Bryan Mbeumo before Manchester United.

Earlier on Saturday, it emerged that coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo have been sacked alongside Postecoglou.

Sources have revealed to TEAMtalk that three Spurs players in particular are furious with the decision to axe Postecoglou. The 59-year-old was loved by the majority of the Spurs squad, despite the poor performances in the league.

Tottenham stars make Levy fully aware of Postecoglou love as three more exits confirmed - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed three more exits behind the scenes after they made the controversial decision to sack trophy-winning boss Ange Postecoglou on Friday – a move that has sparked plenty of responses from some of the club’s top stars.

The north London club made the call to end the Australian’s tenure purely based off the club’s disastrous Premier League campaign that saw them finish just one place above the relegation zone.

Tottenham‘s move came just weeks after Postecoglou led the club to their first trophy win in 17 years, following Europa League success, with Brentford’s Thomas Frank now the No.1 option to take up the role.

But as the dust settles on a tumultuous 24 hours for the club, in which it’s also been reported chairman Daniel Levy is facing a player revolt over his decision, it’s emerged that three of Postecoglou’s coaching staff have also been shown the door.

There’s no Ryan Mason to take temporary charge, as he did when following the sackings of Jose Mourinho and Cristian Stellini, following his move to take charge at West Brom. And now, the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law reports that Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo are all also moving on.

Montgomery and Raimundo only arrived at Spurs last season, while Jedinak was brought in by Postecoglou when he was appointed as the new Tottenham manager in 2023.

However, it appears that Matt Wells and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch wish to remain at the club and no decision will be made on their futures until after a new manager is appointed.

Ange Postecoglou sack: Telling factors behind brutal Tottenham decision

Ange Postecoglou Exclusive: Eye-opening factors that led to brutal Tottenham exit - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou, despite his recent Europa League triumph, and sources have exclusively revealed the reasons behind the decision to TEAMtalk.

The decision, driven by chairman Daniel Levy, stems from major concerns over the team’s Premier League form and the unsustainable nature of Postecoglou’s high-intensity system, which has led to a string of injuries.

Sources inside Tottenham disclosed that Postecoglou’s resistance to adapting his coaching methods was a significant factor in his dismissal.

The Australian’s training sessions, heavily focused on small-sided games, failed to prepare players — particularly defenders — for the physical demands of their high-line tactics.

Sources also explained that the lack of training for long sprints left players vulnerable to muscle injuries, especially hamstrings, as their bodies were unprepared for the “massive loads” during matches.

Despite repeated recommendations to adjust his approach, Postecoglou remained steadfast, leading to predictable injury setbacks.

The club’s Head of Performance, Sam Pooley, departed for Rangers amid these concerns, with sources citing the unsustainable training regime as a key reason for his exit.

Levy faced a critical decision: invest heavily in new players to cover his system or change direction entirely. Ultimately, the latter prevailed.

Postecoglou’s sacking comes despite his strong bond with the squad and his proven ability to deliver silverware, as evidenced by the Europa League success. However, the mounting injury toll and inconsistent league results outweighed his achievements.

To that end, Spurs’ hierarchy believes a more sustainable approach is needed to compete in the Premier League.

Attention has now turned to Brentford’s Thomas Frank, who tops Tottenham’s managerial shortlist to replace the Australian.

The club is preparing to approach the highly regarded Danish coach, known for his pragmatic and adaptable style, as they seek to stabilize their campaign.

Postecoglou’s exit marks the end of a bold but flawed era at Spurs.

While his attacking philosophy won hearts and trophies, the physical toll it exacted proved too costly.

Fans will hope Frank, if appointed, can blend success with sustainability to push Tottenham forward.
