Ange Postecoglou sack: Thomas Frank ready to join Tottenham; Top transfer target revealed - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have held further talks with Thomas Frank and the Brentford manager is open to replacing Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, TEAMtalk understands.

The north London side are intensifying their search for a new manager as they prepare to make a pivotal decision regarding Postecoglou’s future, despite the Australian’s determination to remain at the helm.

TEAMtalk revealed on December 13 last year that Frank would be tempted by the opportunity to manage Tottenham if the opportunity came, and now we’re on the verge of that happening.

The 51-year-old Bees boss has long been on the mind of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and is now the number one candidate for the job, with more work done by Spurs last week to find out his plans for the future.

Frank has an £8m release clause in his contract with Brentford, which Tottenham would have to pay to appoint him this summer.

The Danish coach has earned widespread acclaim for his work at Brentford, guiding the Bees to Premier League stability and establishing a reputation for tactical acumen and progressive football.

His ability to maximize resources and develop young talent has caught the attention of the Tottenham hierarchy, who are seeking a manager to restore consistency and challenge for top honours.

Frank’s data-driven approach and knack for fostering team cohesion align with Tottenham’s ambitions to rebuild following a mixed campaign under Postecoglou.

Jarrad Branthwaite is on Thomas Frank’s radar – sources

Postecoglou, appointed in 2023, has faced scrutiny after inconsistent results, despite his commitment to an attacking philosophy.

While he retains some support from the fanbase, due to the Europa League triumph, the club’s terrible performance in the Premier League has not gone unnoticed by the board with sources stating it left them gravely concerned.

Frank, by contrast, represents a fresh option, with sources suggesting he is ready to embrace the challenge of managing a club of Spurs’ stature.

The coming weeks will be crucial as Tottenham weigh their options. A move for Frank would signal a bold shift and sources have also stated that Spurs know who he would want to bring in over the summer transfer window.

Interestingly, Spurs are keen on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and he is a player that Frank is said to absolutely love, per sources.

Branthwaite could be a player to watch for Tottenham should they appoint Frank, but Everton’s £70m+ valuation makes things difficult.

Developments are expected in the coming days and the feeling remains that Postecoglou will be relieved of his duties.

Ange Postecoglou sack: Tottenham 'in talks' with exciting manager target as Levy sharpens axe

Tottenham 'hold talks' with exciting manager target as Ange Postecoglou sack D-Day approaches - TEAMtalk
Description

Ange Postecoglou is increasingly likely to be sacked by Tottenham in the coming days and the club has held recent talks with a potential successor, per reports.

Postecoglou led Tottenham to winning their first major trophy in 17 years by lifting the Europa League, which grants them entry to next season’s Champions League.

However, a dismal Premier League campaign, which saw Tottenham finish 17th in the table – their worst season since 1976/77 – is still likely to result in Postecoglou getting axed.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Tottenham have held talks with Brentford manager Thomas Frank ‘this week’ about replacing Postecoglou as manager of the London side.

“Understand Tottenham had direct contact with Thomas Frank this week,” Aouna posted on X.

“The Danish manager talked with Spurs about the project and some transfer targets for the summer.

“Tottenham are considering several candidates if Ange Postecoglou is sacked but Frank high on list.”

Thomas Frank among three Prem bosses liked by Tottenham

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney revealed this morning (June 1) that Postecoglou has ‘less than a 5% chance’ of keeping his job at Tottenham.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been left, unsurprisingly, unimpressed by the club’s performance in the Premier League, and the Europa League success won’t be enough to save him.

Tottenham’s links with Brentford boss Frank is nothing new, but the chances of him being appointed as their new coach grow more likely by the day.

TEAMtalk insider Fraser Fletcher exclusively revealed on December 13 last year that Frank would be interested in joining Spurs if the opportunity came, but he always intended to see out the 2024/25 season with Brentford.

Frank isn’t the only manager on Tottenham’s radar, however.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed in an exclusive report for TEAMtalk on April 15 that Fulham manager Marco Silva also has admirers at Tottenham.

Silva is understood to be firmly in the running. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is also liked, but he may be more difficult to appoint after he signed a new contract with the Cherries last month.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will inevitably be linked with a return, but as Jacobs revealed for TEAMtalk on February 13, the coach is fully focused on his job with the United States and he is looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup, so won’t leave that post before then.

Postecoglou sack: Tottenham Hotspur axe date set as Levy finalises three

Tottenham finalise three manager wishlist with Ange Postecoglou sack date set - TEAMtalk
Description

Ange Postecoglou will learn his fate as Tottenham Hotspur manager sometime this week, a strong new report has claimed, and with the Aussie given “less than a 5% chance” of keeping his job, new details have emerged on the coaches Daniel Levy will turn to next.

A somewhat bizarre season in N17 saw Spurs finish the Premier League campaign in a woeful 17th place – their lowest position since 1977 – but yet somehow still end their long-awaited trophy drought as they recorded victory in the Europa League. And while Postecoglou delivered on his ballsy promise that he ‘always wins a trophy in his second season’, it does not look enough to spare him from the Tottenham Hotspur axe.

Indeed, according to the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, it looks increasingly likely that Postecoglou will be given the boot.

In his ‘Reading the Game’ newsletter, he said: ‘As of Friday morning, Tottenham Hotspur still hadn’t made an official decision on Ange Postecoglou but the chances of staying had apparently gone down from last week’s ‘five per cent’. His departure is still expected, whenever that may be.’

While it was always felt that glory in the Europa League could save him, sources have always indicated to TEAMtalk that, irrespective of their success in Europe, Levy has been left unimpressed by their struggles in the Premier League this season and planned to judge him on those performances first and foremost.

Now, having taken that one step further, The Telegraph has revealed that a final verdict will arrive at some point next week. They describe the 59-year-old’s position to be ‘under extreme risk’, and claim Levy has been ‘looking at other managers’, as good as confirming that the writing is on the wall and with his fate set to be decided by the end of next week.

Furthermore, The Telegraph claims that with Andoni Iraola admired, but ‘set to stay at Bournemouth next season’ and with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner also taken off the menu, Spurs’ focus is now down to two men: Fulham’s Marco Silva and Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

Sources can confirm to TEAMtalk that both those men are admired, with a particular fondness for Frank, who is highly-regarded by Levy and with an expectation being that the Dane is now ready to take his career to the next level with a move to a bigger club than the Bees.

But we can also confirm a third name is also in the running for Spurs, with our correspondent, Rudy Galetti, revealing Spurs are also considering appointing Francesco Farioli as their head coach at the end of the season.

Postecoglou sack? Aussie feels he’s done enough to keep Tottenham job

While Levy feels a change is needed to catapult Tottenham Hotspur back into the higher echelons of the Premier League and with question marks raised over his one-dimensional and, often high-risk tactics, Postecoglou himself certainly feels he has done enough to retain the manager’s role.

Speaking recently, he told the media: “I’ve been finding it really weird talking about my future when we’ve done something unprecedented.

“I’ve got to answer the questions because nobody else is in a position to do so. Part of me is thinking, ‘Why am I even being asked the question?’ I’ve got no doubt this could be a really defining moment for this club.”

The former Celtic boss added: “We won a trophy, which we haven’t done for 17 years, and we’re in the Champions League. Ask anyone at this football club at the start of the year if they’d take that and I’m pretty sure there wouldn’t be a person in the house that wouldn’t.”

Despite that, there is a feeling within those in power at Tottenham that the Europa League success has not done enough to satisfy those doubts.

And according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, a parting of ways seems likely.

“I’ve gone backwards and forwards on this, but in the end – I’ve decided that he will go. I think they’ll look over the season, rather than just the easier European games,” he said to Football Insider.

“The thing that will do it for him is the inflexibility over the tactical changes. There were certain games that he could have got results out of, that he didn’t – because he was inflexible.

“The players he had due to injuries meant he should have played a more conservative system. I think that’s the conclusion Daniel Levy will come to, when he looks at it.

“However, it’s going to be a tight decision. There’s been a big emotional push towards Ange now, and he’s handled it very well since winning.”

Tottenham LEAPFROG Arsenal in race to sign 113-goal forward - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have leapt ahead of Arsenal and are now the most ‘serious candidate’ from the Premier League to sign a 113-goal forward whose future will be decided in a matter of days, according to reports.

The outlook for Tottenham’s summer transfer window would have looked completely different had they lost to Manchester United in the Europa League final. Victory not only ended their long wait for a major trophy, but also secured Champions League football for next season.

A by-product of that is Tottenham are now able to lock in close to £100m in extra revenue that participation in the UCL brings. They’ll stand a far better chance of retaining their in-demand stars – such as Cristian Romero – and will be looked upon more favourably by players they’re aiming to sign.

One player who fits that final billing is Leroy Sane who is also a wanted man at near neighbours Arsenal.

The transfer headlines at Arsenal right now are being dominated by their search for a new striker. However, bubbling under the surface is Arsenal’s attempts to sign a new winger too.

The Gunners did explore a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo before high salary demands put a move on ice. That put the spotlight back on Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao, but The Times insist that’s becoming a dead end due to costs too.

As such, the report claimed sporting director, Andrea Berta, had pivoted to Sane who is now Arsenal’s top target for the flanks.

The Bayern Munich ace, 29, has bagged 113 goals at club level through his spells with Schalke, Manchester City and Bayern.

He remains a potent and electric option out wide, though Bayern are struggling to tie the German down to a new contract.

Sane’s existing deal expires on June 30 and after lengthy negotiations, Sky Germany state Bayern have put forward a revised proposal that they hope will seal a deal.

However, a fresh update from reporter Santi Aouna claims it’s by no means certain Sane re-signs in Munich.

Furthermore Aouna revealed that from a Premier League perspective, Spurs have leapfrogged Arsenal and are now the ‘most serious’ option for Sane’s signature in England.

Taking to X, Aouna stated: “Tottenham most serious candidate from England for Leroy Sane right now.

“Bayern Munich have improved their offer but no decision yet.

“The player will have to choose between Bayern, England, Turkey and there is even interest from Saudi Arabia.”

The bid from Turkey comes via Galatasaray who have offered to pay Sane a net salary in excess of €10m per season.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, ‘a final decision [from Sane] is expected in the coming days’.

Tottenham most expensive transfers: Top 10 record signings - TEAMtalk
Description

Having ended a pretty disastrous season with Champions League qualification, after securing a first trophy win in 17 years, there is a strong chance that Tottenham will break their transfer record again this summer.

While doubts continue to surround the future of manager Ange Postecoglou, transfer plans are still starting to take shape as Spurs look to strengthen an injury-plagued squad that showed it was not capable of coping with the demands of domestic and European football this term.

The spine of the side is expected to be a particular focus as Tottenham look to bring in another centre-back, at least two new central midfielders and another striker to provide stronger competition for Dominic Solanke.

And top names like Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Xavi Simons are all prime targets to break the current record ahead of the first of two summer windows opening on June 1.

To that end, TEAMtalk have broken down Tottenham’s current top 10 list of record deals…

There was a strong feeling when Sissoko arrived in north London that he was brought on the basis of how brilliantly he used to perform seemingly every time he played against Tottenham.

Spurs beat Everton to Sissoko’s signature in 2016 but he never reached the heights many had hoped for, despite the odd barn-storming display.

He spent five years at Tottenham before eventually joining Watford and after a two-year stint back in his homeland is now back playing at Vicarage Road.

All the done deals by Premier League clubs in the summer 2025 transfer window

If his dodgy hamstrings stay intact there is doubt that the Dutchman could become a club legend in north London.

Van de Ven has speed to burn and a tremendous ability to read the game as well, while he also showcased in his first season with the club the ability to play as a marauding left-back.

All those expectations ended up being slightly tempered in his second season when the hamstring issues struck again, but Van de Ven once again showed his qualities on the biggest stage when his display in the Europa League final – including that incredible goal-line clearance – helped guide the club to their first trophy in 17 years.

Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood’s initial diagnosis after Porro’s first start for Tottenham in a 4-1 mauling at Leicester was that he was ‘so bad it’s unbelievable’. But the Spaniard has come a long way since then.

Porro had a slight dip in form this season after making big leaps in Postecoglou’s first season in charge, scoring four times and adding nine assists.

Barcelona have recently been linked with a move for the 25-year-old but he will almost certainly be Spurs’s starting right-back again when the 2025/26 campaign rolls around.

Another mixed bag of a season for the former Leicester City man, who has been in and out of the side but has once shown real flashes of his undoubted genius.

Maddison has scored 16 goals and provided 21 assists through his first 75 games for the club, figures that are not to be sniffed at. However, he’s often been the subject of fan and pundit criticism over his inconsistent performances.

The 28-year-old’s absence from the Europa League final was felt for a Tottenham side that lacked any real creativity despite the victory in Bilbao, and Maddison will be looking to start the new campaign fully fit and firing.

Sanchez was the club’s record signing when the arrived from Ajax back in 2017 but ultimately disappointed after spending six years in north London.

The Colombian actually started his career at Tottenham strongly as he played in the middle of a back three with the ever-reliable Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld either side of him.

However, he was not as comfortable in a four and often looked uncomfortable and clumsy in possession.

It was no great surprise when he left for Galatasaray in September 2023, although that should have probably come much sooner given his lack of playing time over the previous few campaigns.

Hard to imagine that Romero actually cost the same as Sanchez, given how their respective Tottenham careers have gone.

In truth, Romero has been somewhat of a disappointment with his performance levels this season, although he did show up when the club needed him most in the Europa League final – earning the Man of the Match award in the process.

However, he still craves a move to Spain and has consistently been linked with the likes of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether securing Champions League football for next season will convince him to stay, although there are some Spurs fans out there who want Daniel Levy to cash in now while the player still has two years left on his contract.

After an up-and-down first season at Tottenham, Johnson made major leaps forward this season.

The Wales international finished as the club’s top scorer with 18 goals, while also laying on seven assists in 51 appearances in all competitions.

There are elements of his all-round game that need to improve but Johnson is starting to show why the club forked out big money for his services in the first place.

The Brazilian continues to frustrate in north London, enduring another campaign of niggling injury absences that saw him score just five goals this season.

Richarlison actually showed some improvement during the 2023/24 campaign but the arrival of Dominic Solanke saw him largely relegated to bench duty again – when he was actually fit.

He did feature more towards the end of the season playing on the left-wing but continues to be the subject of interest from top clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Three words: Waste of money. Another three: Waste of talent.

Ndombele looked a rare talent when arrived in a huge deal by Tottenham standards back in 2019 after the disappointment of the Champions League final loss to Liverpool.

In total he made just 91 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and was loaned out to Lyon, Napoli and Galatasaray.

The 27-year-old is now back in his homeland at Nice, after being released from his Tottenham contract with one year left remaining, and scored two goals with two assists this season.

Solanke became the club’s record capture last summer after previously excelling down on the south coast with Bournemouth.

The England forward had a mixed bag of a first season with the club that included four niggling injuries that cost him some game time.

The 27-year-old still managed to chalk up 16 goals and eight assists in 45 games, including nine G/A in the club’s Europa League success.

Solanke’s all-round game also impressed in what ended up being a taster of what he could bring to the side if he can stay fully fit for seasons ahead.

Tottenham complete £21m signing and announce FIVE exits including £17m sale

Description

Tottenham’s summer transfer window is now in full flow with a £21m defender signing completed and five exits – including a £17m sale – announced.

Victory in the Europa League final not only ended Spurs’ long wait for a major trophy, but also secured Champions League football. The presence of UCL football next season will help the club to attract star players and also raise Spurs’ chances of retaining their biggest names.

Tottenham fans can now enter the summer window with excitement instead of trepidation. But before the real fun begins, a series of deals and moves involving players with obligations in their loan deals or expiring contracts have been ironed out.

Firstly, Tottenham have completed the permanent acquisition of loanee, Kevin Danso.

Spurs moved to sign the Austrian centre-back in January at a time when their injury crisis was at its peak. Danso provided valuable cover for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven and the obligation in his loan agreement has been triggered.

That news was confirmed by both Fabrizio Romano and the BBC. French side Lens will now receive €25m / £21m from Danso’s sale.

Much of that cost for Tottenham will be offset through the permanent sale of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Denmark international spent the 2024/25 campaign loaned to Marseille who have turned the move permanent.

A statement on Spurs’ official website read: ‘Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s loan to Marseille will become a permanent transfer this summer.’ Tottenham will receive £17m for the 29-year-old.

Elsewhere, Spurs officially confirmed the departures of four more first-team players – Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Whiteman and Timo Werner.

Forster’s usefulness to Spurs diminished after the club signed back-up stopper, Antonin Kinsky, in January.

Forster, Reguilon and Whiteman will now depart the club via free agency after their contracts were allowed to run down.

Werner, meanwhile, will return to RB Leipzig following a not-so-successful second loan spell in north London.

Tottenham had the chance to activate an option to buy the forward for just £8.5m. But with Werner making a negligible impact in the 2024/25 season, Spurs have passed on that opportunity.

Tottenham in race against time to sign England star as Crystal Palace open talks - sources - TEAMtalk
Description

Crystal Palace are in talks with attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze over a new contract as they look to stave off interest from Tottenham and five other top clubs, TEAMtalk understands.

The 26-year-old England international has enjoyed another impressive season for the Eagles and scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City – the club’s first major trophy win in their history.

Eze notched an impressive 14 goals and 11 assists in total across all competitions this term, and that has only increased the interest in him as we head into the transfer window.

However, Palace won’t let him go without a fight. TEAMtalk sources have confirmed that the club have initiated contract talks with Eze and is pushing to seal an agreement on a new deal.

Eze’s current deal, which runs until June 2027, includes a £68m release clause set to activate this summer but expires around mid-August, just two weeks before the transfer window closes.

The push to agree new terms comes as no surprise. The club’s Europa League qualification via winning the FA Cup has bolstered Palace’s ambition and chairman Steve Parish is determined to keep Eze.

Tottenham haven’t given up on Eze yet, while there is also interest from four other Premier League sides and one European giant…

Tottenham consider swap deal for Eberechi Eze – sources

TEAMtalk understands that Tottenham are prepared to trigger Eze’s £68m release clause, or propose a player-plus-cash deal – hence why Palace want an agreement quickly.

Manchester United continue to monitor the situation, while Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Bayern Munich are also in the mix, the latter seeing Eze as an alternative to Florian Wirtz.

Despite the swirling interest, Eze remains content at Selhurst Park, where he has flourished since his 2020 move from Queens Park Rangers.

Sources close to the player emphasize his gratitude to Palace and his reluctance to force a move, though he is open to competing at the highest level, driven by ambitions of trophies and a prominent role for England at the 2026 World Cup.

Eze’s impressive has only heightened his appeal, with his versatility and playmaking ability drawing serious interest from clubs who are keen to add creativity into their side.

As the transfer window approaches, Palace face an important few months, they need to try and hold onto their key men as well as strengthen their side for campaign that includes European football. The likes of Adam Wharton and Jean Phillipe Mateta are also being looked at by elite sides.

Tottenham midfield revamp takes huge step forward as Levy green lights two major deals - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on an impressive double midfield deal as the club push for a significant revamp of their engine room this summer, while hopes of a third signing have also improved.

While doubts continue to surround the future of Ange Postecoglou in north London – despite the club winning their first trophy in 17 years under the Australian – transfer plans are still pushing forward.

Playmaking-wise Tottenham are in good hands with the likes of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall all able to play as a No.10 but they remain without any bite in a midfield that has failed to protect an unstable defence all season long.

Yves Bissouma, who is considered as the club’s best defensive midfield pivot, is expected to be sold this summer after failing to reach anything like the heights he did during his impressive spell at Brighton. Speculation also continues surrounding Rodrigo Bentancur’s future in north London, with Atletico Madrid known to be massive admirers of the Uruguay star.

To that end, a fresh report from GiveMeSport transfer insider Dean Jones, via Patreon, states that Daniel Levy is pushing to bring in two new midfielders over the coming weeks in the form of Johnny Cardoso and Angel Gomes.

USA international Cardoso is poised to arrive in a £21million deal from Real Betis after an agreement was struck last summer following Giovani Lo Celso’s return to the LaLiga club.

Fresh from the Europa Conference League final defeat to Chelsea, Cardoso will give Tottenham’s midfield the grit they have been striving for since Postecoglou’s arrival.

Gomes, meanwhile, will walk away from Lille on a free transfer this summer and Spurs have been pushing for his signing for some time – along with his former club Manchester United.

The England international has struggled for consistency in France this season after enduring a number of injury issues, having notched eight assists the previous campaign to showcase his talents.

Adding both players to the Tottenham midfield mix would certainly give whoever is manager next season better options to pick from as Spurs look to bounce back from a disastrous domestic campaign that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League.

Tel drops hint over Tottenham future

Meanwhile, the report adds that Tottenham are still pursuing a deal for current loanee Mathys Tel and hope to get a transfer wrapped up soon.

The French forward arrived on loan in January and while he largely struggled to make a mark in north London, Tel clearly did enough to warrant Spurs trying to negotiate a cut-price permanent deal rather than the agreed £45.7million option that has been on the table.

And speaking after the season finale against Brighton, the Bayern Munich attacker dropped a clear hint that he could be lining up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium again next term.

Talking to Spurs’ in-house media team, Tel said: “Tottenham is a big family with the fans, with everybody else.

“Tottenham is not just a club, it is everything for us. We have to keep going and win more trophies.”

Tel only scored three goals and provided just one assist during his time with the club, but there is a growing feeling that if Tottenham can negotiate a lower asking price for the player then they will try get a deal over the line.

Tottenham transfer news: Green light to complete £55m winger signing - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham can complete the signing of an electric winger for £55m, which is roughly £20m higher than their opening bid, according to reports.

Spurs salvaged what was shaping up to be one of the worst seasons in the club’s history. Tottenham did finish just one place above the relegation zone in 17th, though lifted their first major trophy since 2008.

Winning the Europa League not only snapped that streak, but also secured entry into next year’s Champions League.

Achieving that feat will not only strengthen Tottenham’s chances of retaining their in-demand stars – such as Cristian Romero – but will also boost their spending power and appeal in the transfer market this summer.

One player Tottenham have long since had their sights on is Southampton winger, Tyler Dibling.

The 19-year-old left footer was the brightest spark in what was otherwise a season of doom and gloom for the Saints.

Spurs attempted to prise Dibling away from the south coast in January, with the BBC revealing a £35m bid had been tabled. RB Leipzig too tried their luck with a £30m bid, with both offers swiftly rejected.

Southampton subsequently raised eyebrows when slapping a monstrous £100m asking price on Dibling. But after suffering relegation to the Championship, Sky Sports now report a deal can be struck for £55m.

What’s more, the report also claimed Southampton are well aware they’ll have to cash in on their brightest and best stars and Dibling is top of the billing in that regard.

In a section focussing on Dibling the report read: ‘Southampton know they will have to sell their most promising young talent, who is entering the final year of his deal.’

‘Aston Villa, Chelsea, Tottenham and RB Leipzig have monitored him. The winger is expected to be in high demand this summer with a valuation of around £55m.’

Tyler Dibling to Tottenham latest

Sky’s report suggests Spurs face healthy competition in the race for Dibling. However, a prior report from GiveMeSport claimed Tottenham are frontrunners and that was before they won the Europa League.

GMS also stated Spurs believe a deal can be made with Southampton for a fee in the £40m-£45m range.

As such, we may see Tottenham up the ante from their £35m bid placed in January, but still drop short of Southampton’s target valuation.

Whether the Saints hold out for £55m will depend on how quickly they aim to sell and who else bids.

Furthermore, there is some confusion regarding how long Dibling has remaining on his contract with the Saints.

While some reports including Sky’s have stated he’s about to enter the final year of his deal, others have claimed the terms run until 2027.

If it’s the former and Dibling’s deal expires one year from now, Southampton will struggle to drive up the price for a player 12 months away from free agency.

A Spurs move for Dibling would coincide with the club’s aim to hoover up rising young talent who despite their young ages, can make an instant impact.

Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray are prime examples of Tottenham’s strategy in that regard paying early dividends.

Tottenham given green light for massive Bundesliga transfer coup but still face Arsenal threat - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane, who remains a long-term Arsenal target, on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old winger will become a free agent when his contract with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions expires at the end of next month.

Bayern have been unable to agree a new contract with Sane, who has been offered a new three-year deal on a reduced salary having recently appointed super-agent Pini Zahavi to act on his behalf.

Sane has plenty of previous experience of playing in the Premier League, having recorded an impressive 83 goal contributions in 139 games for Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles during his time at The Etihad.

Sky Sports reports that North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal have both now been contacted regarding a move for the Germany international, with the Gunners having been admirers for some time due to the wide man playing under Mikel Arteta during his stint as Pep Guardiola’s assistant in Manchester.

Tottenham and Bayern Munich actually have a strong working relationship, with Spurs having allowed both Harry Kane and Eric Dier to move to Bavaria back in the summer of 2023 – although in fairness Dier was a free agent and could have gone where he wanted.

Sane still has plenty to offer despite the fact he is approaching his 30s, having scored 13 goals and laid on six assists in 45 games for Bayern this season.

His ability to play on either flank also makes the German an attractive proposition for a Tottenham side who are on the hunt for fresh attacking talent this summer.

Sane salary could present a problem for Tottenham

The addition of Sane on a free transfer for Tottenham would no doubt be a real coup for the club ahead of their return to the Champions League.

However, the player’s salary demands will almost certainly cause issues for a club who do not traditionally pay out large amounts even for their top players.

Skipper Son Heung-min is the highest earner at £190,000-a-week, with James Maddison and Cristian Romero following close behind the South Korean.

Bayern’s last base salary offer to Sane was for around £160,000-a-week, a figure that did not include bonuses. While that fee could be manageable for Tottenham, Sane’s age will almost certainly be factored into any decision.

There remains the possibility that Romero’s salary could come off the books if a proposed move to Spain transpires, while a return to Europe’s elite cup competition has given the club a projected £100m boost.

Much will now depend on what the player himself decides, although Spurs will almost certainly be concerned by Arteta’s links with the winger and the potential that Sane could easily be persuaded to move to the red half of north London instead.

Ironically, if he does join Spurs one of Sane’s first games for his new club could come against Bayern at the Allianz Arena in August when the two clubs are due to face off in a friendly clash ahead of the new season.
