Tottenham have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane, who remains a long-term Arsenal target, on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old winger will become a free agent when his contract with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions expires at the end of next month.

Bayern have been unable to agree a new contract with Sane, who has been offered a new three-year deal on a reduced salary having recently appointed super-agent Pini Zahavi to act on his behalf.

Sane has plenty of previous experience of playing in the Premier League, having recorded an impressive 83 goal contributions in 139 games for Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles during his time at The Etihad.

Sky Sports reports that North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal have both now been contacted regarding a move for the Germany international, with the Gunners having been admirers for some time due to the wide man playing under Mikel Arteta during his stint as Pep Guardiola’s assistant in Manchester.

Tottenham and Bayern Munich actually have a strong working relationship, with Spurs having allowed both Harry Kane and Eric Dier to move to Bavaria back in the summer of 2023 – although in fairness Dier was a free agent and could have gone where he wanted.

Sane still has plenty to offer despite the fact he is approaching his 30s, having scored 13 goals and laid on six assists in 45 games for Bayern this season.

His ability to play on either flank also makes the German an attractive proposition for a Tottenham side who are on the hunt for fresh attacking talent this summer.

Sane salary could present a problem for Tottenham

The addition of Sane on a free transfer for Tottenham would no doubt be a real coup for the club ahead of their return to the Champions League.

However, the player’s salary demands will almost certainly cause issues for a club who do not traditionally pay out large amounts even for their top players.

Skipper Son Heung-min is the highest earner at £190,000-a-week, with James Maddison and Cristian Romero following close behind the South Korean.

Bayern’s last base salary offer to Sane was for around £160,000-a-week, a figure that did not include bonuses. While that fee could be manageable for Tottenham, Sane’s age will almost certainly be factored into any decision.

There remains the possibility that Romero’s salary could come off the books if a proposed move to Spain transpires, while a return to Europe’s elite cup competition has given the club a projected £100m boost.

Much will now depend on what the player himself decides, although Spurs will almost certainly be concerned by Arteta’s links with the winger and the potential that Sane could easily be persuaded to move to the red half of north London instead.

Ironically, if he does join Spurs one of Sane’s first games for his new club could come against Bayern at the Allianz Arena in August when the two clubs are due to face off in a friendly clash ahead of the new season.

Tottenham have reportedly rekindled their interest in Nice forward Evann Guessand after failing in their efforts to land the pacy attacker in the January transfer window.

With injuries plaguing Ange Postecoglou’s squad at the turn of the year, Spurs were in the market for another player to boost their frontline and eventually ended up getting Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel on loan after initial reluctance from the Frenchman to head to north London.

Barring a significant drop in Bayern’s asking price, Tottenham are unlikely to land Tel on a permanent deal after the attacker failed to truly showcase his talents during his loan stint. To that end, the need for a new forward remains, especially one that can play centrally or out wide – two boxes that Guessand ticks.

The 23-year-old was on the club’s radar in January, along with the likes of Randal Kolo Muani and Jonathan David at the time, but ended up remaining at Nice.

His overall record this season was an impression one, recording 13 goals and 10 assists in 42 games in all competitions, although the majority of his appearances came on the right wing.

Guessand did play through the middle on 13 occasions, and also lined up on the left six times to showcase his versatility which – for the money Nice are asking for his services – is right up chairman Daniel Levy’s street.

Indeed, the French outfit are asking for just €28m (£24m) to part company with their top scorer this summer in a deal that could represent tremendous value – and French outlet Fraternité Matins states that Levy has made his move.

The Ivory Coast international, who is keen on a new adventure, is described as “tall, strong, technical and extremely fast” and would arguably be a tremendous asset for whoever is leading Tottenham next season, whether that is Ange Postecoglou or not.

Tottenham in need of genuine Solanke competition

With Brazilian flop Richarlison almost certain to be sold this summer, amid continued links to clubs in the Saudi Pro League, the need to sign another centre-forward to keep Dominic Solanke honest is paramount for Tottenham.

The club’s record signing had a decent first campaign in north London, scoring 16 goals and adding eight assists in 45 appearances despite being hampered by a number of nagging injury issues throughout the season.

Solanke’s all-round play was better than his stats suggested but there is a feeling that more is needed from a Spurs forward line whose top scorer was Brennan Johnson with 18 this term.

Guessand would arguably be a like-for-like swap for Richarlison is he does make a move to the capital, given his ability to line up wide or centrally.

His electric pace would certainly be a big asset to the team, especially with Son Heung-min seemingly losing a yard this season, while Johnson – despite his fine campaign – is often reluctant to take his full-back on.

With Champions League football secured for next season, Levy and Tottenham will certainly be looking to make some headlines this summer as they aim to improve a squad that woefully underperformed domestically this season.

Tottenham Hotspur are planning a bid to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, according to a shock report, as TEAMTalk reveals why such a transfer is extremely unlikely to happen.

Chelsea and Tottenham are ambitious Premier League clubs, and both will play in the Champions League next season. While the Blues qualified for Europe’s premier club competition after finishing fourth in the Premier League table, Spurs booked their place after winning the Europa League.

Like all clubs, Spurs will make signings in the summer transfer window, and one of the players they have been linked with is Chelsea forward Nkunku.

Nkunku has been at Chelsea since 2023 and has not been able to make a huge impact.

Under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca this season, the French forward made only nine starts in the Premier League.

Maresca has used Nkunku predominantly as a centre-forward this season, and the 27-year-old has not been particularly impressive.

However, according to Fichajes, Tottenham have taken a shine to Nkunku and are planning a shock raid on Chelsea for him.

Spurs are ‘willing to negotiate an initial loan, with a €45million (£38m, $51m) option to buy’ Nkunku.

The report has added that ‘this proposal could be attractive to Chelsea, who are looking to offload a player who hasn’t had the expected impact this season and at the same time recoup some of their investment’.

Why Nkunku from Chelsea to Tottenham is very unlikely

Fichajes is not one of the most reliable sources, and the report that Tottenham are planning to raid Chelsea for Nkunku has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Tottenham and Chelsea are bitter London rivals, and no transfers of senior players have taken place between these two Premier League clubs since January 2009 when Carlo Cudicini left the Blues for Spurs on a free transfer.

Nkunku has not had the best of times at Chelsea, and Tottenham are unlikely to be too eager to make such a signing that they do not need.

The Frenchman is at his best as a number 10, but England international playmaker Cole Palmer plays in that role at Chelsea.

James Maddison is a natural number 10, while his Tottenham team-mate Dejan Kulusevski is also able to operate in that role while being adept at playing out wide, too.

Moreover, Chelsea have placed a huge price-tag on the Frenchman.

TEAMtalk’s Italian correspondent, Rudy Galetti, reported on May 23 that Chelsea have told Juventus to pay €70million (£59m, $79m) for Nkunku.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Juventus have already made contact with Chelsea over a summer deal for the forward.

TEAMtalk understands that Newcastle United also hold an interest in the 27-year-old.

Bayern Munich also admire Nkunku and have looked into a possible deal for the Chelsea player.

With so much interest in Nkunku, Chelsea are unlikely to even consider Tottenham’s offer to sign him on loan for next season even an option to make it permanent.

Alternating between central attacking midfield and playing out wide, he has notched 44 goal contributions from 76 matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.

Simons certainly has the quality to make a big mark on the Tottenham squad, whoever is managing the club next season, but there is one major question mark over the potential signing.

While there can be no doubting that Simons is a quality performer and would do well in north London if he made the move, there are other areas of the Tottenham squad that are in greater need of upgrades.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusesvki already alternate in the No.10 role for Spurs and that is unlikely to change going forward after Champions League qualification.

There was talk that both players could move on this summer before that massive Europa League triumph, but the injured pair will now put all their focus on getting fit again ahead of the new campaign.

In terms of positions where Spurs need to make improvements, the addition of at least one new centre-back, potentially two new central midfielders and another striker remain the priorities.

Cristian Romero, who will miss the final game of the season against Brighton with a toe injury, continues to be heavily linked with a move to Spain – a move that would leave a big hole to fill regardless of his inconsistent performances this term.

Yves Bissouma is also expected to be sold, with a deal already in the pipeline for Real Betis star Johnny Cardoso to replace the Mali international as Tottenham’s new defensive midfielder.

Tottenham’s victory in the Europa League final over Manchester United might not be enough to save Ange Postecoglou, with reports suggesting that their players ‘expect’ him to be relieved of his duties.

Winning the Europa League has granted Spurs qualification to the Champions League next season and Postecoglou must take credit for guiding the team to their first major trophy in 17 years.

However, the London side’s Premier League season has been nothing short of embarrassing for a club of their stature. Tottenham currently sit 17th, on track for their worst campaign since 1974/75.

According to The Daily Mail, Spurs’ players do not expect Ange Postecoglou to be their head coach next season despite achieving a historic Europa League triumph.

Amid the ongoing speculation surrounding Postecoglou, journalist Santi Aouna has claimed that ‘internal talks’ have taken place at Tottenham over appointing Brentford’s Thomas Frank as his replacement.

“Tottenham have discussed about Thomas Frank among new manager candidates in case of Spurs sack Ange Postecoglou,” Aouna posted on X.

“Internal talks took place about several options.”

TEAMtalk insider Fraser Fletcher revealed back in December that Tottenham had shortlisted Frank as a potential Postecoglou successor.

In Fletcher’s latest update on Frank on April 16, he shared that sources have informed him that the Brentford head coach could be ready to take on a new challenge next season.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola has also been looked at by Spurs but the Spaniard looks set to stay with the Cherries for at least another season after penning a new contract this month.

The talented forward joined Spurs on loan in January, and they have the option to sign him permanently for €60m (£50.3m) this summer – but it’s claimed that they can get him for much less.

Tel, 20, is undoubtedly an exciting prospect, scoring three goals in 19 Tottenham matches. He didn’t feature in the Europa League final win against Manchester United, but he is highly valued at the club.

According to the Bayern Insider podcast, with journalists Christian Falk and Tobias Altschaffl, Tottenham could get the forward for around €40m (£33.5m). It’s claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is a big fan of the player and thinks Spurs should build their future team around him.

“Tottenham is now in the Champions League, and that could mean a lot of money for Mathys Tel,” said Altschaffl.

“That’s true, and we’ve also heard that Daniel Levy is still a big fan of his, even though he didn’t start in the final,” added Falk.

“The exit period from €60-50m would also go down again. I think over €30m is a negotiating basis, and if we land on €40m, I think it would be okay. So the deal is still not off the table.”

Ange Postecoglou: “I think he’s very, very exciting”

There has been speculation in recent weeks that Tottenham plan to not sign Tel for their €60m buy option, but the opportunity to snap him up on a cut-price deal could tempt them into a U-turn.

Ange Postecoglou, who now has a good chance of remaining Spurs manager after fulfilling his promise that he “always” wins trophies in his second season, said in an interview last month that he views Tel as a future Premier League star.

“I didn’t actually bring him here just for six months,” Postecoglou said. “I think he’s very, very exciting.

“When you meet him, you realise that he has that certain something. He has enormous confidence in what he wants to do.

“Although he is still young, he can physically handle the Premier League,” Postecoglou continued. “He’s a goal scorer, he can hold his own, he’s got the necessary speed. He will play an important role in our end-of-season push and beyond.”

If his career continues on an upward trajectory, Tel could compete with Dominic Solanke for a starting spot next season. Solanke played a key role in Tottenham’s Europa League success, and has notched 15 goals and eight assists across all competitions this term.

Rayan Cherki has confirmed he will leave Lyon at the end of the season, sparking a flurry of interest across Europe as clubs line up to trigger his modest €20m release clause, with Tottenham among his suitors, TEAMtalk understands.

The 21-year-old forward has enjoyed a standout campaign in Ligue 1, registering 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions – form that’s turned heads at some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Yet despite his obvious talent, concerns around his character and attitude persist, with several sides still wary of how he’d adapt to a new dressing room.

Beyond those three, several elite sides have gathered information, including Bayern Munich, Manchester City, PSG, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace.

With a low release clause of €20m (£16.8m) and no stumbling blocks on Lyon’s end, the final decision is expected to come down to the strength of the project offered and the financial package for the player’s entourage.

In short, the race for Cherki is wide open – and it’s only just getting started – but Tottenham are a side to keep a close eye on.

The youngster has long been touted to be a top talent with world-class potential and the fact that he can play as a winger on either flank or as an attacking midfielder appeals to Spurs.

The project proposed to Cherki, and also the value of the commissions for the entourage will be two key elements in the various negotiations for personal terms, given that the talks with Lyon are not a problem for any club.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently winning the race to sign an attacking full-back many of their Premier League rivals would be envious about, according to reports.

There’s uncertainty in the air around Tottenham at the moment, with a Europa League final against Manchester United to prepare for but the prospect of finishing as low down as 17th in the Premier League table meaning Ange Postecoglou’s future is anything but safe.

However, Spurs are still being linked with new targets regardless of who’s in charge of them next season. The latest update regards a right-back they are supposedly in pole position for.

According to Give Me Sport, Spurs are ‘leading the race’ to bring Monaco’s Vanderson to the Premier League.

A deal is there to be done at £30m and Spurs are showing the strongest interest out of all their rivals, the report claims.

Vanderson had also been mentioned as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, but their focus has shifted firmly to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

That doesn’t mean that Spurs will have a free run at Vanderson, though. Barcelona have joined the race for the Brazil international, according to the report, and there could be competition from closer to home for Spurs.

Indeed, Manchester United are weighing up a move for the 23-year-old, whose representatives are also tempted to reach out to Manchester City.

Of all these clubs, though, Spurs are currently at the front of the queue. They would just need to convince Monaco to sell a player who’s still under contract until 2028.

What about Pedro Porro and Djed Spence?

Of course, Spurs already have a clear starter at right-back in the shape of Pedro Porro, who has been backed up by Djed Spence this season.

Porro has ranked in the 99th percentile of Premier League full-backs for crosses into the penalty area per 90 minutes this season, as well as the 97th for shot-creating actions and the 92nd for blocks.

The Spaniard’s contract is still valid until 2028, so he might be wondering about his place in Spurs’ plans if they’re looking to bring in another right-back.

According to Give Me Sport, though, any addition of Vanderson would be to provide competition for Porro, rather than replace him.

That may lead to questions about the future of Spence, although he has shown his worth at left-back more often this season.

There’s no mention in the latest update of what the consequences would be for the former Middlesbrough man, whose contract is also due to last until 2028.

Nor does Archie Gray get a mention, but he is a midfielder by trade and has covered at centre-back more often than right-back since his move from Leeds United.

What promised to be a successful season for Tottenham could end in disaster. Having finished fifth in the Premier League table in the 2023-24 campaign, Postecoglou’s side were expected to push for the Champions League places this time around and also do well in the domestic cup competitions.

However, Spurs are currently 17th in the Premier League table, having picked up just 38 points from 36 matches.

The only way to salvage the season would be to win the Europa League, with Tottenham facing Premier League rivals Manchester United in the final.

And while success in the competition would represent a first major honour for the club since the 2008 League Cup and deliver on Postecoglou’s bold promise that he “always wins a trophy in his second season”, it may not be enough to spare him from the sack.

While Tottenham are working behind the scenes to find a suitable replacement for Postecoglou, the 59-year-old himelf is defiant about his future.

Fox Sports Australia quoted Postecoglou as saying this week when asked about the reasons behind Tottenham’s 17 years without a major trophy: “Some of it [is psychological], not all of it because you can’t dismiss the fact that I’ve also had to change pretty much everything at the club in terms of playing style, in terms of the squad.

“It’s not like I took over a team that finished third and is constantly in that echelon. The year before I took over, we were eighth. We weren’t even in Europe.

“So it’s not just been ‘Okay, this is the final bit’. We’ve had to do a whole lot of other things. We’ve done a lot of heavy lifting in the last two years. We’ve signed a lot of young players with the right kind of thinking for the future.

“That’s costing us now because we don’t have a squad that can cope with what’s going through now. It is not just psychological, it is about trying to change a whole range of things but also have that piece [of silverware].

“My view was that’s what I’ll get judged on. I could have been sitting here fifth last year, fifth this year — maybe people wouldn’t be waiting for the white smoke to see if it’s my last one — but they’d still be saying ‘You know Ange, that’s great but its all been done before. Until this club wins something, you haven’t made an impact’.

“I kind of knew throughout my tenure last year, that’s what I was going to be judged on so now we have an opportunity to do that.”
