Arsenal have suffered a blow in their quest to bring Savinho to the Emirates Stadium, with Manchester City turning down the Gunners’ advances, according to a report, as Fabrizio Romano reveals Julian Alvarez’s response to a potential move to the north London club.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has reported that Tottenham want to sign Savinho from Man City this summer.

Sources have told us that Man City themselves are willing to sell the Brazil international winger.

Tottenham tried to sign Savinho last summer, but Man City blocked his move and convinced him to put pen to paper on a new deal.

However, the Cityzens, who will have Enzo Maresca as their new manager following the departure of Pep Guardiola, are ready to cash in on the winger they paid €40million (£34.5m, $45.7m) for in the summer of 2024.

It has now emerged in the Brazilian media that Arsenal, too, have made a move to sign Savinho.

According to RTI Esporte agency, Arsenal tried to convince Man City to a loan deal for the 22-year-old, but the Cityzens turned it down.

The report has stated: ‘Tottenham’s interest comes after Savinho’s name was also mentioned in connection with Arsenal.

‘However, talks with the Gunners did not progress.

‘The London club did express interest in a loan, but this was promptly rejected by City, who made it clear that they would only accept a permanent transfer for the player.’

Julian Alvarez rejects Arsenal for Barcelona

Not only have Arsenal suffered a blow regarding Savinho, but Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have also been rebuffed in their approach for Julian Alvarez.

On Monday, the Atletico Madrid striker revealed his desire to leave this summer.

Sources have told our transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, that Arsenal are among the clubs keen on Alvarez, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also after the former Manchester City star.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Alvarez has already turned down the chance to join Arsenal this summer.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “PSG tried, but Julian Alvarez said, ‘Thanks, but I want to go to Barcelona’.

“And also, Arsenal tried to make an approach to Atletico Madrid and to Julian Alvarez’s camp to understand the situation of Julian Alvarez, but the answer from the player was exactly the same – ‘Thanks, but I want to go to Barcelona’.

“So, this is what Julian told Arsenal and PSG.

“Now, it’s going to be important to see what happens.

“It’s still very long, it’s been a long time of this story, but it’s still two months before we can call the very end of the summer transfer window.

“Now, we have to understand what Atletico Madrid will do with these two clubs because the strategy at Atletico could be, we want to keep the player, of course, but if Julian wants to leave, as he announced, he has the possibility to negotiate with Arsenal or eventually with PSG.

“Well, on PSG, let me tell you, PSG have gone very cold.

“PSG didn’t take the transfer well, so I think the PSG story for Julian Alvarez is very, very very cold at this stage.

“Arsenal still didn’t sign a new striker, and so, in case the doors open again from now to the next weeks, we have to see what happens.

“But, at the moment, the strategy for Atletico could be okay, you want to leave, you can go to another club.

“Otherwise, they can keep the player because they insist on keeping the player and consider Julian not for sale.

“In this story, Barcelona remain strong with the agreement with the player.

“They know that the player wants to go there when Alvarez goes public and says, ‘I want to fulfil my dream’, the dream is Barcelona, but now it depends what happens between the clubs.”

Former Tottenham midfielder Darren Anderton has named a top Premier League striker target he believes can finally bring about an end to the search for Harry Kane’s successor in north London, a mere three years after the club legend walked away.

Spurs have already begun their overall of Roberto De Zerbi’s squad by adding three new defensive signings in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, but there remain some glaring needs in the starting XI.

The north London club failed to replace another legendary figure in Son Heung-min last summer, after the left-winger moved to MLS side LAFC, but the overall output from the No.9 position was sub-standard at est.

However, Anderton is convinced they need look no further than Brentford and Brazil striker Igor Thiago to help get much better production for De Zerbi’s forward line.

The 24-year-old, who is also on the radars of Man Utd and Arsenal, scored 22 goals for the Bees during the 2025/26 campaign to finish behind only Erling Haaland in the Premier League golden boot race.

Thiago is currently on World Cup duty with Brazil, where he started their opening clash against Morocco but was then dropped to the bench for the win over Haiti.

Anderton backs Thiago signing for Tottenham

Anderton, speaking exclusively to Standard Sport via Ivy Bet, believes Thiago could go some way to filling Kane’s massive boots in the white half of north London.

He said, when asked about Tottenham’s striker struggles: “I don’t think anyone can [replace Kane] as such. Are we going to go out and buy the best striker in the world that’s available and pay him crazy, whoever that guy is, crazy money? I don’t think we are.

“It’s going to be that one where we probably take a gamble on someone and try and do it that way. I mean, I love the boy at Brentford, Igor Thiago. I think he’s done great.”

“I don’t see why Igor Thiago wouldn’t fit the system.”

The Brazilian joined Brentford in 2024 from Club Brugge in a deal worth £28.5million, but suffered two long-term injuries that saw his first-team debut delayed until August 2025.

In total he’s scored 88 club-career goals in 226 appearances, while also notching two in five caps for his country.

As for how he thinks De Zerbi will fare in his first full season in north London, Anderton added: “Honestly, as bad as it was, I think that De Zerbi can get us back into the Champions League. I really do. I think he’s that good.

“If he gets the right players in, which obviously Senesi is, he wants us to play a certain way of passing the ball correctly.”

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as ‘genuine contenders’ to sign a top AS Roma midfield talent who has also been firmly on Arsenal’s radar this summer, as Roberto De Zerbi continues to revolutionise his squad after two disastrous domestic campaigns.

Tottenham leap into Kone race

With that in mind, a fresh report from Italian outlet Corriere della Sera claims that Tottenham have now ‘made their own enquiries’ and are assessing the conditions of a potential £40million deal.

Kone is said to be keeping his options open over his next move and is attracted by the opportunity of a move to Spurs, despite their lack of European football next season.

The Frenchman is described as a ‘dynamic and athletic’ presence, who is ‘comfortable both defensively and in possession’, and has developed into ‘one of Serie A’s most complete box-to-box operators’ during his time in Rome.

He also represents much better alue than the near £100m Newcastle are asking for Tonali and the £80m West Ham think Fernandes is worth.

Kone can currently be seen at the World Cup, where he was an unused substitute in France’s 3-1 opening group-stage win over Senegal, but could feature in their second clash against Iraq on Monday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur have held discussions with Liverpool over Cody Gakpo as they assess whether the Dutch international could represent a better option than long-term target Savinho, TEAMtalk understands.

Spurs are actively exploring attacking reinforcements this summer and sources have confirmed that Gakpo’s situation at Anfield has been discussed at length internally as Roberto De Zerbi and the club’s recruitment team weigh up their next move.

The Netherlands star’s future at Liverpool has become increasingly uncertain following Andoni Iraola’s arrival, and Tottenham believe a market opportunity could be emerging.

Indeed, TEAMtalk understands Spurs have already spoken with Liverpool as they seek clarity on Gakpo’s situation and what it might take to bring him to north London.

A report earlier on Monday claimed Spurs are also preparing a move to sign Marcus Rashford, though will have their work cut out.

The England forward still has hopes of staying with Barcelona following his successful loan stint this season, while Bayern Munich have also shown interest in signing him.

Should neither of those moves materialise, Rashford could actually opt to remain with Manchester United, rather than join another Premier League side.

Gakpo has Liverpool ‘concerns’ as Tottenham eye move

The discussions at Spurs come at a time when Gakpo is increasingly concerned about his place in Liverpool’s long-term plans.

TEAMtalk exclusively revealed earlier this month that the Dutchman had begun assessing his options amid fears his role could diminish under Iraola.

The emergence of Rio Ngumoha has already heightened competition on the left flank, while the arrival of Spanish international Victor Munoz has only intensified those concerns.

Munoz is a player personally pushed for by Iraola and operates predominantly from the same areas of the pitch as Gakpo.

No such proposal has been formally discussed at this stage, but the fact Leipzig admire Gakpo and Liverpool want Diomande adds an interesting layer to both situations.

For now, Tottenham’s focus is on determining whether a deal is achievable. De Zerbi is keen to add more quality and versatility to his attack and Gakpo’s ability to operate across the front line is viewed as a major attraction.

Tottenham have sanctioned another loan departure for highly-rated young winger Mikey Moore this summer, TEAMtalk understands, and Rangers are set to make a major push to win the race for his signature.

My colleague, Graeme Bailey, revealed in an update earlier today how Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli are keeping a very close eye on his situation.

From the Premier League, Chelsea and Aston Villa are also understood to have made enquiries, though no formal moves have been made at this stage.

With this in mind, Forest will have to move quickly if they are to win the race for Bergvall.

His signing directly ties to Anderson’s exit, though, so a bid for Bergvall may not materialise until the England star’s future is fully resolved.

Tottenham Hotspur’s ambitious summer rebuilding drive shows no signs of abating, with a strong report claiming they are poised to launch an official bid to bring Marcus Rashford to north London – and while his price looks within reach, they may face a battle convincing the star to join Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

The England star has been left frustrated after seeing Barcelona’s €30m (£26m, $34.5m) option to sign him permanently lapse, despite a stellar season on loan in Spain which saw him deliver 28 goal contributions.

And while that form was enough to earn him a place in the England squad at the World Cup finals, Rashford‘s future at club level remains wrapped in uncertainty, with Barcelona having already signed Anthony Gordon in a £69m (€80m) deal and allocating any funds they have to the addition of a new striker.

As a result, Rashford has found himself at something of yet another career crossroads, albeit with interest still strong in his services amid links to the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Bayern Munich, among others.

Now, according to the iPaper, Spurs are poised to launch a firm and determined bid for his services, as De Zerbi looks to add the jet-heeled 27-year-old left-sided attacker to his ranks.

Spurs, who are also trying to sign Sando Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this summer, have also already signed Jan Paul van Hecke (£52m) as well as free agents Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.

Now, the report claims an official bid for Rashford is coming next, though they state they are looking to strike a price for some distance lower than the £40m agreement that previous loan club Aston Villa had struck for the player 12 months ago and potentially nearer to the £26m agreement Barca had in place.

Manchester United, for their part, are understood to have green-lit the player’s sale this summer and are keen to find a permanent solution for their homegrown star, who last played for the Red Devils in December 2024, with his astronomical wages at Old Trafford seen as the main motive.

However, it seems that even if they manage to agree a deal with United, De Zerbi and Co may face an uphill battle in convincing Rashford to move to north London…

Rashford transfer priorities still lie elsewhere

Indeed, we understand that Rashford still has hopes of moving to Barcelona and would be open to a return to the Nou Camp, even if on a second season’s loan, as we exclusively first revealed was the LaLiga giants’ plan, way back in December.

Furthermore, our transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has since also revealed that Rashford could, alternatively, have a preference to join Bayern Munich, alongside England teammate Harry Kane, and were the Bundesliga champions launch an offer of their own.

That stance is also reflected in journalist Pete Hall’s report for the iPaper, who has confirmed Rashford would then give a preference to remaining with United should he stay in the English game.

However, with United determined to sell, the smart money suggests Rashford will be playing elsewhere in the 2026/27 campaign.

Wherever he ends up, Rashford will need to take a substantial wage cut to secure his next move.

United’s return to the Champions League would ensure his already sky-high United pay packet would be due to increase next season as part of a clause in his contract, a figure Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS – who inherited the arrangement – would be keen to avoid.

With regard to the player’s next club, a report recently brought news of a secret clause in Rashford’s contract that allows any club barring Liverpool and Manchester City to sign the star for £40m.

Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and a host of Italy’s biggest clubs are closely monitoring Lucas Bergvall’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur, with TEAMtalk understanding the Swedish midfielder is increasingly uncertain about his future in north London.

The 20-year-old remains one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in European football and sources have confirmed that interest from the continent has intensified in recent weeks as questions grow over his role under Roberto De Zerbi.

TEAMtalk can reveal that Dortmund and Leipzig are among Bergvall’s strongest admirers, while Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli have also been alerted to his situation and are keeping close tabs on developments.

Indeed, sources suggest that if Bergvall were to leave Tottenham, a move back to mainland Europe would currently appeal more than remaining in the Premier League.

The uncertainty stems from a difficult end to last season. Bergvall began the campaign as an important member of the squad under Thomas Frank and was widely expected to play a major role in Tottenham’s future.

However, his standing within the squad changed significantly following Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival.

The Sweden international started De Zerbi’s first game in charge away at Sunderland but saw his opportunities diminish rapidly thereafter, spending much of the latter part of the season on the fringes.

Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney have all been discussed.

The prospect of Tottenham adding two or more central midfielders has inevitably raised concerns over Bergvall’s pathway to regular first-team football.

That has not gone unnoticed elsewhere.

Chelsea and Aston Villa have both made enquiries regarding the player’s situation, although sources indicate Bergvall is not currently prioritising a move to another Premier League club.

For their part, Tottenham have not actively put the player on the market and still regard him as a major talent.

However, with De Zerbi overseeing a significant rebuild and midfield reinforcements high on the agenda, Bergvall has been left questioning where he fits into the club’s long-term plans.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Tottenham Hotspur are now in talks with the agents of Mateus Fernandes as they look to agree personal terms and beat Manchester United to his signing, while TEAMtalk understands that West Ham have also reached a big decision on the sales of Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen.

The West Ham star is already one of this summer’s big transfer stories after our sources confirmed back on June 2 that he has been cleared to leave the London Stadium following the Hammers’ relegation to the second tier.

And while the Championship new boys are standing by their £85m valuation of Fernandes, their hopes would seemingly depend on an auction taking place for his services, with the likes of Real Madrid and PSG, so far, deeming that price too high.

That fee is also problematic for chief suitors Manchester United, who are very much keen on the player and want to make the 21-year-old their second midfield addition of the summer after Ederson.

And while they have made progress in convincing the player to make the move, Tottenham‘s entry into the race – at the insistence of ambitious manager Roberto De Zerbi – threatens to throw a major spanner in the works.

Now Romano has provided an update on the saga – and it is Spurs who appear to be making gains, though it’s still too soon to write United off.

Speaking on his YouTube channel late on Sunday night, Romano revealed: “According to my information, Tottenham are talking to the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and they are pushing to reach an agreement with the player – but still nothing guaranteed, still nothing closed.

“What’s going to happen is that there will be more conversations with Tottenham, and more conversations with Manchester United, because don’t forget that Manchester United are working very, very hard on this deal. Manchester United are working hard on the club side with West Ham — they’ve already spoken about Matheus Fernandes — and they are also working on the player side with his agent. So Man United are still very much in the picture…”

Romano also admits a third suitor could soon enter the race, too, to make the race even more complicated…
