Tottenham news: Spurs forced into major transfer move after devastating Solanke blow

Tottenham look certain to push ahead with their move for a new striker in the January transfer window after suffering yet another devastating injury blow on the eve of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Everton.

Spurs head to Goodison Park on a run of just one win from their last nine Premier League games that has seen them drop to 15th in the Premier League, just eight points above the relegation places.

First-choice centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain on the sidelines, where they’ve been for the last six weeks now, and now No.9 Dominic Solanke is the latest to face a spell out in another massive blow to Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham have already been on the hunt for another forward to strengthen their squad, with Lille frontman Jonathan David heavily linked with a switch to north London after a move for PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani failed to materialise.

That search will almost certainly intensify in the remaining two weeks of the January window after initial reports stated that Solanke suffered a knee injury in training on Saturday that could keep him out for up to six weeks.

That news has not been confirmed by the club at this stage, although Postecoglou will almost certainly address it in his pre-match interview with Sky Sports before the Everton clash.

If the worst Solanke fears are realised, then the England forward is also set to miss Europa League games against Hoffenheim and Elfsborg as well as Premier League clashes with Leicester, Brentford, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Ipswich and Manchester City, along with the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

That outcome will surely force Daniel Levy and sporting director Johan Lange’s hand in terms of signing a replacement, especially given that Solanke’s deputy Richarlson’s injury record cannot be trusted.

Lille star David reportedly remains the club’s priority signing option for January, having scored 17 goals and added seven assists in 30 games in all competitions for the French outfit this season – although there have been some suggestions that he favours a summer switch instead.

Another Ligue 1 forward, Nice star Evann Guessand, is also known to be on the club’s radar after several scouting missions, although much will now depend on the severity of Solanke’s injury.

The former Liverpool and Bournemouth man has scored 11 times in all competitions for Tottenham this season after his big-money summer switch, but it’s not just his goals that have been important to Postecoglou’s side. Solanke’s all-round play and pressing from the front has set the tone for some of Spurs’ best, albeit rare, performances in what has so far been a hugely disappointing campaign in N17.

Chance for Richarlison to stake his claim

Solanke’s injury is set to open the door for Richarlison again after an injury-hit season so far for the mercurial Brazilian frontman.

Richarlison, who is said to want out of the club, returned from a two-month absence in the 2-1 north London derby defeat at Arsenal in midweek and could now deputise up front with Solanke out.

“We’ve been really careful in the way we’ve brought him back this time. He’s probably been ready to go for a couple of weeks. We’ve given him extra work,” Postecoglou said of Richarlison on Friday.

“I thought he was really good when he came on the other night [at Arsenal], you could see his quality.

“He is one of these guys that does lead by example, particularly when he plays. It’s great to have him back.

“With Richy, it’s about him gaining confidence in his body as well. We can do that in the next few weeks.

“He’ll certainly play a part in the Everton game. Hopefully get him some more minutes than the other night, because if we can keep him fit, I’ve got no doubt he’ll be a really important player for us.”

The big question will be whether Postecogkou thinks Richarlison is ready to start the game after eight weeks out, with skipper Son Heung-min and youngster Will Lankshear the other two options if the Spurs boss thinks its too much of a risk – especially given the Solanke news.

PSG tell Tottenham conditions to seal extremely risky signing, as top source confirms approach coming

Tottenham are ‘considering’ an approach for a high quality PSG star, though his profile may not suit Ange Postecoglou and the terms the Parisians are demanding make a deal doubly risky for Spurs.

TEAMtalk were informed back on December 31 that Tottenham aim to be among the busiest clubs with regards to arrivals this month. Additions are being sought in four positions – goalkeeper, centre-back, winger and striker.

The first on that last has already been ticked off through the £12.5m signing of Antonin Kinsky. However, progress on the other three fronts has been tougher to make.

Today’s update regards the centre-back chase, with PSG’s Milan Skriniar in the spotlight once again.

Multiple outlets have reported on Tottenham’s interest in the 29-year-old who’s won both Serie A and Ligue 1 titles with Inter Milan and PSG respectively over the past few seasons.

And according to a fresh update from journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are considering a loan bid. However, PSG’s preference if they do wave goodbye to Skriniar is a permanent move.

“Spurs considering an initial loan, but PSG want Skriniar’s exit to be permanent,” reported Jacobs on X.

Why signing Milan Skriniar would be a risk

There are no doubts around Skriniar’s defensive ability. He was among the best Serie A had to offer during his time with Inter and remains a high quality option despite not featuring all that regularly at PSG.

However, for all the qualities Skriniar possesses, pace and mobility cannot realistically be described as being amongst them.

Skriniar thrived in a back three at Inter, whereas Postecoglou features just two centre-backs at Spurs. What’s more, the Tottenham manager’s familiar high line could present a problem for Skriniar.

Pace is among the most important traits a centre-back must boast to make Spurs’ high line work. A sluggish centre-half who is reluctant to push up and subsequently struggles to chase down an attacker when the ball is played over the top poses an obvious problem.

And as Jacobs mentioned, the only way to sign Skriniar – at least if PSG get their way – is via a permanent deal.

If Skriniar joined and quickly proved unsuited to Postecoglou’s tactics, Spurs would be stuck with a highly-paid dud who turns 30 next month.

A worthy compromise could come in the form of Tottenham requesting a loan that contains an option – not an obligation – to buy.

That would give Tottenham six months to assess whether Skriniar is worthy of a permanent move, though it would also require PSG to relax the demands they’ve currently adopted.

Latest Tottenham news – Richarlison quits? / AC Milan, Barcelona raids

In other news, Football Insider claimed Richarlison has made his mind up and he wants to QUIT Tottenham.

The Brazilian is claimed to be sick of his squad role at Spurs and now looks favourably on a heavily-linked transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Elsewhere, TBR Football claim Tottenham have interjected themselves into the race to sign AC Milan centre-back, Fikayo Tomori.

Milan are open to selling the England international, 27, if a sizeable bid is lodged. Competition is coming by way of Juventus who’ve shifted their focus on to Tomori after their quest to prise Ronald Araujo out of Barcelona hit a dead end.

Finally, Spanish outlet Sport claim Spurs could satisfy their desire to sign a new winger by landing Ansu Fati from Barcelona.

Tottenham along with West Ham are claimed to have tabled an offer, though details beyond that vague statement were light.

In any case, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Fati is a player Barcelona are willing to offload. A six-month loan – potentially with a view to a permanent deal in the future – is the most likely exit scenario for Fati.

The 22-year-old has prior Premier League experience after spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Brighton.

Big-money Tottenham star decides to ‘quit’ the club in potential blessing in disguise

Description

Richarlison wants out of Tottenham and one specific exit route is opening up, while a report has outlined why Ange Postecoglou is to blame in the Brazilian’s eyes.

Richarlison cost Tottenham £60m (£50m plus £10m in add-ons) when bought from Everton two-and-a-half years ago. The attacker has been used all across the frontline since arriving, though injuries and a lack of opportunities have blighted his Spurs career in more recent times.

Indeed, injuries have restricted Richarlison to just eight appearances across all competitions this season. Of those eight outings, only one was a start (AZ Alkmaar – Europa League).

And according to a bombshell update from Football Insider, Richarlison has had enough of being a squad player in north London.

It’s claimed Richarlison ‘has made up his mind to leave Tottenham.’ Dobuling down on their claims, FI added Richarlison has ‘told friends he wants to quit the club.’

Detailing where the player could go if Tottenham approve an exit, it’s stated Richarlison ‘has his eyes set on a mega-money move to the Saudi Pro League.’

The SPL are known to view Richarlison as a gettable transfer target as well as one that would improve the league’s reputation.

Indeed, the vast bulk of big names who’ve moved to Saudi Arabia have been well past their peak or in the Autumn of their careers. At age 27, Richarlison is in his theoretical prime.

And given the vast sums Saudi sides are often willing to put up, Tottenham may well be able to secure a lucrative transfer fee if sanctioning a sale.

As such, Richarlison’s alleged exit request could be a blessing in disguise for Spurs and a sizeable sale would give the club far greater scope to make impactful new signings.

Tottenham stance on Richarlison sale

One of The Athletic’s Tottenham experts, Jay Harris, claimed in late-December that Spurs ARE open to selling Richarlison.

In a piece that looked ahead to the January window, Harris wrote: “Tottenham’s most valuable asset who is not playing regularly is Richarlison.

“The Brazilian forward arrived from Everton for an initial £50million in July 2022 but has just 12 league goals since.

“It is no secret that he was on the market last summer and there was interest from Saudi Arabia that would have allowed Tottenham to make their money back on him — which they would have struggled to do if they sold him to a European club.

“Richarlison did not want to move to Saudi Arabia and remained in north London.”

But if the latest update from Football Insider is accurate, Richarlison has now warmed to a new chapter in the middle east.

A sale, as mentioned, would free up room and funds for Tottenham to make major signings in the final two weeks of the winter window.

TEAMtalk were informed on December 31 that Spurs aim to sign players in four different positions this month – goalkeeper, centre-back, winger and striker.

The first on that list has been checked off through the arrival of Antonin Kinsky. Further additions are expected over the next two weeks.

Tottenham transfer news: Spurs plotting Juventus revenge as battle brews for £25m international centre

Tottenham are reportedly among a host of Premer League clubs who are keen on signing an AC Milan centre-back that is very much on the radar of Italian giants Juventus.

Signing another central defender has been on the agenda for Ange Postecoglou since both Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies all went down injured, leaving Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray to fill in for the last couple of months.

And, despite the fact that both Romero and Van de Ven are expected to return before the end of the month, Tottenham still continue to be linked with players to bolster that position.

One centre-back who continues to be tipped to make a return to the Premier League is Milan star Fikayo Tomori.

Tomori has made a name for himself over in Milan and is very much part of the thinking for the new England regime under Thomas Tuchel. However, the 27-year-old has been in and out of the Milan team this season – although he has started the last two games.

TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey states that Juventus have switched their focus to signing Tomori after Barcelona decided against an exit for Ronald Araujo.

Indeed, the Turin giants are said to have put a deal on the table which is a loan with an initial €5million fee, with a €20m obligation in the summer with another €5m in bonuses.

However, significant interest remains from English clubs, most notably Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton, who are all keeping tabs on the player’s situation.

The report adds that Spurs are ‘big fans’ of the England international, while they would also be delighted to beat Juventus to the punch after the Italian outfit did exactly that to them after winning the race for PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Tomori open to summer exit but Conceicao a fan

While, TBR Football adds that Tomori is open to the prospect of a move this summer, new Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao could have other ideas.

It’s stated that the Portuguese tactician is a major fan of Tomori’s talents and would actually prefer he is not sold at the end of the current campaign, or in January.

If Tomori did end up at Tottenham, there could be some family feuds on the horizon after the defender previously admitted growing up as an Arsenal supporter.

Indeed, Tomori has previously spoken of Gunners legend Thierry Henry being his idol as a youngster, while he’s continued to admire him as a pundit.

“When I was growing up I was a big fan. He was my idol. And as a pundit he’s really funny,” Tomori told CBS Sport in 2023.

As for whether he moves on this month, we have just over two weeks to see.

back Patrick Dorgu rocked as Prem rival storms into race

Description

Tottenham could see their hopes of signing brilliant attacking left-back Patrick Dorgu ruined by a Premier League rival in the remaining weeks of the January transfer window.

The north London club have been tracking Dorgu for some time after being given the nod by former sorting director Fabio Paratici over his attacking qualities and how he would thrive in the Premier League.

Indeed, Tottenham have been chasing the Lecce man due to growing concerns over Destiny Udogie’s injury issues, along with the fact that Ben Davies will be out of contract in the summer.

Udogie was outstanding at the start of last season before his form dropped away and he eventually missed the end of the campaign with a hamstring problem, the same issue that has sidelined him again now. Add in the fact that Sergio Reguilon will either be offloaded this month or the summer and left-back is a need for Postecoglou going forward.

However, Tottenham’s plans to snap up Dorgu could end up being scuppered by Premier League rivals Liverpool, according to the latest reports coming out of Italy.

TMW reports that the Reds are looking at the 20-year-old as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, who was a key figure in the club’s Premier League and Champions League triumphs under Jurgen Klopp but appears to be on the decline.

Indeed, Robertson has completed just two matches since his red card against Fulham in December, with the report claiming that Liverpool have sent scouts to watch the defender in action four times this season – despite the fact they are also keen on Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies too.

The Anfield outfit are expected to bid around £33.6million (€40m/$41m) to sign a player who has scored three goals this season from the attacking left-back role he’s been given by the Serie A outfit.

The news – depending on how much truth there is to it – will come as a massive blow to Tottenham, given the time they have spent evaluating the player, and could end up forcing them to look elsewhere to find some competition for the injury-prone Udogie.

Help coming to Tottenham backline

Spurs should at least be buoyed by the return of their main two centre-backs in the coming weeks, as Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray continue to deputise.

Both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are expected to be back in action by the end of January, meaning Postecoglou is unlikely to splash out on another centre-back in the final couple of weeks of the winter window.

If anything, it now appears that signing a new striker has become the club’s top priority before the February 3 cut-off point.

Indeed, there is growing speculation that Tottenham are closing in on a move for prolific Lille hotshot Jonathan David, who has scored 17 goals so far this season – six more than current Spurs No.9 Dominic Solanke in all competitions.

Postecoglou wants more competition for England forward Solanke, as he cannot trust Richarlison staying fit for any length of time given his track record since moving to the club.

Latest Tottenham news: Spurs to help Rashford secure Barca switch / Mourinho eyes Reguilon

Tottenham could inadvertently help Marcus Rashford to secure his preferred move out of Manchester United this month, with reports detailing the latest on Barcelona’s interest as well as a Spurs ‘offer’ that unlocks their deal.

A delay in Rashford communicating his intentions to Milan and Dortmund over joining them is understood to be a result of the player’s desire to join Barca. And according to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, has approved the loan signing of Rashford.

But before a deal can take shape, it was claimed Man Utd must first be willing to accept an obligation to buy would NOT be included in a deal. Furthermore, Man Utd must be willing to subsidise a sizeable portion of the player’s £325,000-a-week wages during the loan.

The issues for Barcelona don’t end there, with Sport confirming Flick’s side must move a player on before they can fit Rashford and his high salary within their financial limits.

That is where Tottenham come in, with Fabrizio Romano confirming on his YouTube channel that Ansu Fati is the player Barcelona could ship out to free up room and funds – with Spurs already putting an offer on the table.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing to raid one of his old clubs Tottenham in the remaining weeks of the January window in his search for new defensive recruits at Fenerbahce – with Sergio Reguilon on his radar.

Tottenham transfers: Jose Mourinho ready to ransack Spurs for defensive star back in Postecoglou's favour

Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing to raid one of his old clubs Tottenham in the remaining weeks of the January window in his search for new defensive recruits at Fenerbahce.

The Turkish giants, having sold Ferdi Kadioglu to Brighton and lost Jayden Oosterwolde to a long-term injury, are currently in urgent need of defensive reinforcements.

To that end, Mourinho has turned his focus back to north London and is said to be targeting previously out of favour left-back Sergio Reguilon to join him in Turkey.

The Spaniard has long been linked with a Tottenham exit after falling out of favour under Antonio Conte first and then Ange Postecoglou. Loan stints at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford all failed to produce permanent moves for the 28-year-old but things have changed a little in recent weeks.

Indeed, Spurs’ defensive injury crisis had led to Reguilon being back in favour with Postecoglou, with both Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies currently sidelined.

That being said, the Spurs chief has still preferred to start the right-footed Djed Spence at left-back instead of Reguilon, who has been used from the bench when needed.

And it appears Mourinho is well aware of the player’s situation, with Turkish outlet A Spor claiming that the Portuguese tactician has spoken to Reguilon recently about a switch to Fener.

Mourinho is paraphrased as saying: “Let us work together again”. Indeed, he views the Spain international as an ideal fit for the needs of his current club.

Furthermore, Fenerbahce’s sporting director, Mario Branco, is expected to travel to England to hold talks with Tottenham over the transfer before the Turkish window closes on February 11 – eight days after the English one.

Writing on the wall for Reguilon

Speaking about Udogie was ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring issue, Postecoglou said of Reguilon: “He’s been available all year but obviously at the moment we’ve got, you know it’s no secret, we’ve got quite a lot of our defenders out and obviously we lost Destiny now for a period of time.

“It’s going to be a while, so yeah, Reggy, I’m sure will get more opportunities.”

It’s not quite panned out like that, with the Spaniard featuring twice off the bench against Wolves and Newcastle – although he did play the full 120 minutes against Tamworth in the FA Cup.

The fact that Spence has been preferred at left-back over the naturally left-sided Reguilon still says a lot about the player’s long-term future in north London.

Links also continue to Leece attacking left-back Patrick Dorgu so, with that in mind, there’s every chance that Postecoglou could let Reguilon go before that February deadline.

Latest Tottenham news: Positive news on striker swoop / surprise attacker link

Given Tottenham’s ongoing injury crisis, they’ve received some good news in their hunt to sign a top Ligue 1 striker before the January transfer window closes.

Despite currently sitting 14th in the table, just eight points above the drop zone, Spurs are the second highest in the Premier League this season with 43 goals from their 21 games – only leaders Liverpool have scored more.

However, summer signing Dominic Solanke has only contributed seven times in 18 appearances and Ange Postecoglou has often bemoaned his side’s ability to take their chances in a number of narrow defeats this term.

With that in mind, Spurs have been offered the chance to sign Lille hotshot Jonathan David and a doctor who specialises in injuries has revealed just what Postecoglou would want to hear.

Meanwhile, Tottenham reportedly have made an offer to bring Barcelona forward Ansu Fati back to the Premier League, with a report claiming that the decision was taken after the defeat to Arsenal while adding that another London side have also launched a bid.

Tottenham transfer news: Real Madrid make Arda Guler decision

Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing a top young player from Real Madrid have been dealt a huge blow, with a report claiming Los Blancos’s stance and how the attacking midfielder himself feels about a potential exit from the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Tottenham not having a particularly great campaign, they are keen on reinforcing their squad in the middle of the season and pushing for a top-four finish in the Premier League table. TEAMtalk transfer expert Fraser Fletcher has reported that Spurs want to sign a striker to enhance their chances of clinching a Champions League place, with Evann Guessand on their radar.

Among the other players who have been linked with Tottenham is Arda Guler. Fichajes reported in November that Spurs have taken a shine to the Turkey international attacking midfielder. Madrid were reportedly open to letting the player leave on loan for a club in the Premier League.

However, the same publication is now reporting that Madrid have made a complete U-turn on Guler. The defending Spanish and European champions have decided that the 19-year-old, who can also play as a winger, will stay as part of Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team squad for the rest of the season and will not leave for Tottenham or any other club.

Fichajes has reported that Ancelotti plans to give Guler more playing time in the coming weeks and months. The former Fenerbahce star himself is keen on making it a success at the Santiago Bernabeu and is not considering leaving Madrid.

Described as a player with “great personality and exceptional quality” by Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho, Guler is reported to have shown exemplary determination to succeed at Madrid.

It has been reported that Guler has rejected offers from other teams to stay at Los Blancos and help the team win LaLiga and the Champions League this season.

Madrid are just a point behind leaders Atletico Madrid in second place in the LaLiga table and can still progress to the Round of 16 in the Champions League without going through the playoffs. Ancelotti believes that Guler could play a big role for the team in the second half of the season and help them win silverware.

Arsenal and Man Utd also suffer Arda Guler blow

It is not only Tottenham who will be affected by Madrid’s new stance on Guler. Arsenal and Manchester United will also be disappointed to learn that the Turkey international will not leave Los Blancos this month.

Reports in the Spanish press in November claimed that Man Utd were ready to pounce for Guler in the January transfer window. The Red Devils’ plan was to offer Antony to Madrid to sweeten the deal.

With Antony having failed to do much of note during his time at Old Trafford so far, Man Utd are ready to offload him and bring in someone better and younger.

Arsenal have also been planning a bid for Guler. Reports in the English media stated that the Gunners were among a number of clubs, including Aston Villa, who were interested in a loan deal for the Madrid youngster.

Madrid have been looking to send the Turkish teenager out on loan, but with Los Blancos having now changed their mind over him, the Gunners, like Spurs, will have to look elsewhere if indeed they are still keen on bringing in a new attacking midfielder/winger.

Latest Tottenham news: Bastoni summer bid, Fati offer

While Tottenham are active in the January transfer window, they also have an eye on the future. One of the players that Spurs are looking to sign in the summer of 2025 is Alessandro Bastoni.

Bastoni is one of the best defenders in the world and has been superb for Inter over the years. Reports have claimed that Spurs are planning to make a bid for the Italy international centre-back at the end of the season.

Tottenham have turned towards Bastoni after realising that they will not be able to sign Jarrad Branthwaite or Abdukodir Khusanov. While Khusanov is on the verge of joining Manchester City in January, TEAMtalk understands that Everton will not sell Branthwaite in the middle of the season, with the Toffees in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship.

Tottenham have also been linked with Ansu Fati. The forward failed to do a great deal during his loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion last season, but Spurs believe that the youngster could help them in the second half of the current campaign.

A Spanish report has stated that Tottenham have made an offer for Fati. Spurs’ London and Premier League rivals West Ham United have also bid for Fati, who is the subject of interest from Turkish giants Besiktas as well.

Fati is a peripheral figure in Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad, with the LaLiga giants open to offloading him. The Spain international forward has made only eight appearances for Barca this season.

With Tottenham missing out on the signing of Randal Kolo Muani, they have turned towards other forwards to bring to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. TEAMtalk understands that Nice and Ivory Coast international star Evann Guessand is on Spurs’ radar.

Jonathan David has also been reportedly offered to Tottenham. The Canada international forward is out of contract at Lille at the end of the season, and his agents have offered him to Spurs.

Tottenham news: Injury fears allayed as Spurs push hard to sign Solanke upgrade with 23 goal contributions this season

To that end, Tottenham are working hard to get another No.9 through the door and have been given a major lift in their bid to sign long-time target Jonathan David from Lille in recent days – having failed in their efforts to beat Juventus to Randal Kolo Muani.

That may well have been a blessing in disguise, given Kolo Muani’s struggles in front of goal this season, with David once again proving to be a prolific goalscoring force in France.

As we reported on Thursday, the Canada international has been offered to the north London club, although there is no mention of what sort of fee they will have to pay.

Having scored 26 goals last term, the 25-year-old already has 17 to his name this season – to go along with six assists – and the even better news is that he has an excellent injury record, unlike the man hs is likely to replace in the squad in Brazilian Richarlison.

Doc gives thumbs up to David injury record

We’ve been reporting how Tottenham have been working hard behind the scenes to give Postecoglou more tools to do his job, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky already brought in earlier in the window.

And landing a new striker who is famed for how clinical his finishing is would go along way to helping the club pull away from the wrong end of the table and get back in the mix for European football in the second half of the campaign.

Amid the growing speculation that David is on his way to Tottenham, injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar has provided reassurance regarding the player’s overall fitness.

Speaking about the potential transfer, he noted the forward’s excellent fitness record and claimed that the player will face no problem in clearing his medical at the club.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “He’s had a pretty ideal record in terms of his fitness.

“Last season too, there weren’t any issues and he even played every league game for LOSC Lille. Wouldn’t expect clearing his medical to be an issue with him also being relatively young at 25.”

David’s overall Lille record of 101 goals and 24 assists in 212 games is impressive to say the least, while he’s also a player just as comfortable featuring as a No.10 as he is playing as the focal point of the attack.

To that end, if Tottenham can get David on board it will give them the sort of one-two punch, including Solanke, that should allay Postecoglou’s goalscoring concerns.

Latest Tottenham news: Spurs eye major summer signing / Barca star tipped for move

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a summer move for an Inter Milan defender that Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori thinks is the best in Italy, with the report claiming why Spurs are so keen on signing him and naming two other centre-backs they are interested in.

TEAMtalk transfer expert Fraser Fletcher reported this week that Tottenham will be very busy in the January transfer window. While Spurs are keen on signing a new striker, they are also looking to add a new centre-back to their squad, with club chairman Daniel Levy keen on giving head coach Ange Postecoglou the best possible tools to succeed and get the team into the top four.

According to Fichajes, Tottenham have now set their sights on Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. While Spurs do not plan a bid in the January transfer window, they are keen on bringing him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer of 2025.

Meanwhile, Spurs have made an offer to bring Barcelona forward Ansu Fati back to the Premier League, with a report claiming that the decision was taken after the defeat to Arsenal while adding that another London side have also launched a bid for the player.

Spurs have tried to sign Bastoni before, but the North London club could never get a deal done. Tottenham’s former Sporting Director, Fabio Paratici, has long wanted to bring him to the club but without any success.

With Bastoni having a long-term contract with Inter, the Italian giants are in a strong position when it comes to negotiations with Spurs.

Tottenham need to sign a centre-back urgently and they are aware that “competing with financially stronger clubs” for a player of Bastoni’s quality and calibre will be a “significant challenge”, states the report.

Bastoni is one of the best centre-backs in the world who has won Serie A twice with Inter and reached the final of the Champions League with the Nerazzurri in 2022-23. The defender also helped Italy win the European Championship in 2020.

Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori plays with Bastoni for the Italy national team, and earlier this month, he described the Inter star as the best Italian defender at the moment.

Calafiori told CalcioMercato: “I like Bastoni’s mentality, he plays in a very similar way to mine: he plays very well with the ball, even better than me.”

Tottenham want Jarrad Branthwaite and Abdukodir Khusanov

According to Fichajes, one of the reasons why Tottenham are keen on a deal for Bastoni because of their failure to lure Jarrad Branthwaite or Abdukodir Khusanov.

Spurs are interested in Everton centre-back Branthwaite as well as Lens central defender Khusanov, but Spurs have failed to get either of them.

Khusanov is widely expected to move to defending Premier League champions Manchester City. There is an agreement in place over a £33.5m deal.

TEAMtalk understands that Everton will not sell Branthwaite in January. The Toffees have just appointed David Moyes as their new manager, and with the team just a point above the relegation zone, they will not want to lose one of their best and most important players and damage their chances of survival in the Premier League.

Latest Tottenham news: Ansu Fati offer, Pedro Porro relief

Following Tottenham’s defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby on Wednesday which has severely hampered their chances of finishing in the Premier League top four, Spurs have made a bid for Barcelona forward Ansu Fati.

The Spanish media has reported that Tottenham have made an offer for Fati despite his struggles at Brighton and Hove Albion last season. The 22-year-old Spain international was on loan at the Seagulls from Barcelona.

Tottenham, though, will face competition for Fati. West Ham United are also keen on a deal and have made an offer, while Turkish giants Besiktas are showing interest in him as well.

Another forward has been offered to Tottenham. Jonathan David is out of contract at Lille at the end of the season, and there is speculation that his agents have offered him to Spurs.

With Randal Kolo Muani deciding not to join Tottenham, the North London club’s hunt for a new forward is still on.

David is one of the most lethal strikers in Europe, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham take the option to sign the Canada international now for a fee or wait until the summer of 2025 to snap him up on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Spurs do not have to worry about losing Pedro Porro to Real Madrid in the January transfer window.

Madrid are looking for a new right-back this month. With Dani Carvajal injured and Lucas Vazquez not doing particularly well in that role given that he is a winger by trade, Porro has emerged as a potential target for Los Blancos.

However, a report in Spain has claimed that Madrid are aware that Tottenham will demand a lot for Porro. With Los Blancos determined to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent when his current contract at Liverpool runs out at the end of the season, they have decided to go for loan options in January. Chelsea right-back Reece James is now on their radar.
