This summer has already seen Matheus Cunha leave Wolves to join Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo is likely to join him in a downwards step to Old Trafford from Brentford.

Liverpool are also set to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi to follow, as Champions League clubs work their way down a list of players not at Champions League clubs or at Manchester United, who are immune from this sort of thing because they remain Manchester United.

So who are the most valuable players not at Champions League clubs (or Manchester United) and where will they go this summer? We consulted transfermarkt for the names if not the numbers…

He’s got a release clause in the £68m bracket and at 26 is understandably ready to play Champions League football after watching Michael Olise make the move to Bayern Munich and have a whale of the time. Tottenham are not quite in the same bracket as Bayern but they can offer Champions League football and a far better chance of being in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup plans.

Eze will come at a similar price to Mbeumo and you could easily argue that he has a) a higher ceiling and b) more versatility as he can play on either the flank, as a No. 10 or even in a deeper midfield role at a pinch.

Bound for: Tottenham

Chelsea are said to have ‘asked Nottingham Forest for updated information about Murillo’ and were presumably told that the Brazilian is for sale for £68m and not a penny less.

At just 22, but with a Brazilian cap already in his back pocket, he screams ‘seven-year Chelsea contract’ and Forest might have a fight on their hands to keep hold of him. He would surely be tempted with the tantalising prospect of a World Cup spot enhanced by Champions League football with the Blues, who collect young centre-halves like a nine-year-old collects Pokemon cards.

Bound for: Chelsea

Aston Villa probably need to log a sale before the June 30 deadline and if reported interest in Emiliano Martinez, Ollie Watkins and others do not materialise in the next week, the PSR silver bullet is selling Rogers, probably their greatest asset.

There will be no shortage of suitors for the £15m signing from Middlesbrough and Villa would push for a £50m profit on the young English international. The best fit? Probably Arsenal, who really could upgrade the stagnated Gabriel Martinelli with a move for the 22-year-old.

Bound for: Arsenal

Newcastle have been strongly linked with the 10-goal Seagulls forward – very much up for sale at Brighton, where the Brazilian has burned his bridges after a training-ground fall-out. The Magpies and Arsenal have both been extensively linked but when it’s a 23-year-old at Brighton, the smart money is always on the Blues.

They also have a few spare players in their back pocket that might interest Brighton in a swap deal, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall the name at the top of many lists.

Bound for: Chelsea

It is said that Nottingham Forest quoted a number close to £100m for their No. 10, which quite rightly left Manchester City concluding that they could get Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders for less than the price of a Gibbs-White.

He will undoubtedly be frustrated but his best weapon is probably patience; this time next year his price will drop if he does not sign a new contract at Forest. By then, there might be options other than City.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has stated that it will be “very difficult” for a European giant to land a Tottenham star they “love” this summer, “especially” with Spurs in the Champions League.

Spurs had a poor season in the Premier League in 2024/25, but won the Europa League. Indeed, they came 17th in the league, but overcame Manchester United to win the secondary European competition.

Claiming that silverware was not enough for Ange Postecoglou to keep his job, but it might have been enough for Tottenham to retain the services of star centre-back Cristian Romero.

According to transfer insider Romano, he’ll be tough to prise away from Spurs as a result of their upcoming Champions League campaign

“Look, Atletico love the player, so they would love to bring Cuti Romero one day to the club. Also, [Diego] Simeone is a big fan, but my understanding is that with Tottenham in Champions League, Tottenham with a new project now, with Thomas Frank, I don’t see Tottenham losing a leader like Cuti Romero this summer,” Romano told GIVEMESPORT.

“So it’s going to be very difficult to get the player in the summer transfer window.

“Daniel Levy wants to keep the player at the club from what I’m hearing. Also Thomas Frank sees Romero as a crucial part of this squad from a technical point of view, but also for leadership.

“So I think Atletico want to try. They always wanted to try, not only this year, also in the past, but at the moment, I think it’s going to be quite complicated, especially with Tottenham being in the Champions League.

“If they lost the final by final in Bilbao, maybe it was going to be a different story. But now, being in the Champions League, I think it’s going to be very tough.”

Atletico’s admiration of Romero is clear, with manager Simeone recently stating he “obviously” wants to sign the defender, as he’s a “great player.”

The defender himself has suggested a move to Spain would interest him, stating in April: “My focus is on growing, but I don’t want to talk about that. I’d love to play in the Spanish league. I’d love to compete in all the top leagues.”

As per Romano, though, it will be tough for Atletico to land him, and that will surely help Tottenham’s chances on their retutn to the Champions League.

Tottenham are reportedly ‘preparing to offer’ a fee below what an Italian ‘rising star’ is valued at by his club this summer after recent scouting efforts.

Spurs have signed a number of centre-backs in recent seasons. Under Ange Postecoglou’s reign, for the last two years, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso were signed.

Ben Davies, who has been at the club for years, has also just been given a one-year contract extension.

However, Tottenham are still on the hunt for another centre-back, with Cristian Romero looking like he could potentially exit, after months of reports linking him with Atletico Madrid were followed by their boss, Diego Simeone, stating he “obviously” wants to sign the Spurs man.

As a potential replacement, there are links with 18-year-old Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni.

Caught Offside reports Tottenham are one of the sides interested in signing the youngster, who played 17 Serie A games for his club last season.

Bournemouth and Wolves are both also said to be keen on Leoni, while Serie A clubs Napoli, Inter Milan and AC Milan are also mentioned.

But it’s understood that Spurs are ‘preparing an offer’ of €25million (£21.3m) for the centre-back, though Parma will ‘demand’ at least €35million (£29.8m).

Leoni is 6ft 5in, said to be capable of playing with both feet, and is described in the report as a ‘rising star’ in Italy.

Tottenham have used the European nation as a hunting ground in recent seasons, with Romero, Destin Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski among those who have been signed from the Serie A.

It has also been reported of late that another rising star from Italy, Niccolo Pisilli, is on Spurs’ radar. It was initially suggested that they north London club had completed the basis of a deal for the Roma man.

That was since denied by his agent, but there was no denial that Spurs are in fact interested in signing the midfielder, who scored in Italy under-21s’ latest Euros match, against Spain.

If things go their way before the end of the summer window, Tottenham could have a pair of young new stars in their ranks.

Tottenham are reportedly keen on signing one of Thomas Frank’s former Brentford stars, but Arsenal are on the attack to ensure the Spurs boss fails with a second Bees raid.

New Spurs boss Frank has seemingly identified a number of Brentford stars who he wants to bring with him. The Bees finished 10th in the Premier League under him last season, while Tottenham came 17th, so they might well help to bring up the level.

Yegor Yarmolyuk, Christian Norgaard, Bryan Mbeumo and now Yoane Wissa have been linked with moves to Spurs.

The latter is the most recent to be linked, with our friends at TEAMtalk suggesting Frank sees Wissa – who scored 19 Premier League goals last season – as a ‘valuable addition’ to their forward line.

But rivals Arsenal could have a say in Tottenham missing out on him.

The report suggests the Gunners see Wissa as an option to bolster their striker options – though they look eager to sign one of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Brentford are said to be reluctant to lose their 49-goal striker, but they will be under threat from more sides than just the north London pair.

In the Premier League, Nottingham Forest are also keen, while Turkish pair Ferenbahce and Galatasaray are both said to be keen on Wissa.

Brentford hope the £50million price tag on their forward will halt his exit, but the big clubs in England might well be willing to pay that, while it’s believed the Turkish clubs are looking to pay just over half of the valuation.

The Bees are also reportedly looking to tie Wissa down to a new deal, so clubs could find it difficult to land him if that happens.

If Tottenham lose out on the Brentford man, they might not be all to bothered if they can land his team-mate, Mbeumo.

Frank’s move to become Spurs manager reportedly piqued the winger’s interest in a move there, though Manchester United have also been on the attack for him, and reports have maintained that Old Trafford is the likeliest destination for him.

Now, though, transfer expert Duncan Castles has suggested that “there’s a good chance” Mbuemo might “choose Spurs ahead of Manchester United.”

The ability to remain in London and play under Frank have been cited as reasons the forward might prefer a move to Tottenham.

Manchester United have submitted an improved bid for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo but may miss out on the forward as there’s now a “good chance” he will “choose Spurs” ahead of the Red Devils.

United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha after they triggered his £62.5m release clause to bring him in from Wolves and want Mbeumo to play in the other inverted No.10 position in Ruben Amorim’s now infamous 3-4-3 formation.

They saw a bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons rejected by Brentford for the 25-year-old earlier this month, but were confident of wrapping up the deal with Mbeumo keen on the move to Old Trafford.

Thomas Frank’s move to Tottenham threw a spanner in the works as the Danish boss wants to bring Mbeumo with him from Brentford, but reports had suggested Spurs had backed away from a possible move as it supposedly became clear that the Cameroon international only had eyes for United.

But it was claimed on Thursday that Spurs are still in the running as chairman Daniel Levy works with Frank to rebuild the squad ahead of a season with Champions League football.

In a bid to avoid Spurs swooping in, transfer expert Duncan Castles claims United have now submitted a new offer worth more than £60m for Mbeumo.

Although it’s not clear what the make-up of that deal is, no matter the up-front fee and add-ons, it looks set to be rejected by Brentford as the Bees hold out for a fee closer to £70m for the winger, who got 20 goals and eight assists in the Premier League last term.

The Bees may also be boosted by Castles’ revelation that “there’s a good chance” that Mbeumo might “choose Spurs ahead of Manchester United”, offering the prospect of a bidding war between the two clubs.

Castles cited two “obvious reasons” for Mbeumo’s U-turn on The Transfers Podcast.

“The indication from Manchester United was Mbeumo had chosen to move there and verbally told them that his preference was to move there,” Castles said. “But I’m not hearing exactly the same on that.

“I think there is a good chance that Mbeumo, should Tottenham get to the price that Brentford are asking, that he might choose Spurs ahead of Manchester United.

“There are a couple of obvious reasons for that. One is that it allows him to stay in London and secondly it allows him to carry on playing for Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham as the replacement for Ange Postecoglou.”

Thomas Frank has given the green light for Tottenham to push for the signing of Eberechi Eze, but they face competition from Arsenal and Aston Villa for the Crystal Palace star.

Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou last week as chairman Daniel Levy decided to part ways with the Australian boss despite winning the Europa League last season.

It came as no great surprise as Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League having lost an incredible 22 of their 38 league games.

A significant rebuild is required with Frank set to lead Spurs in the Champions League as well as domestic competition, and having made loan moves for Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso permanent for £30m and £21m respectively, Levy and Frank are putting their heads together in order to make further additions.

There have been predictable links with each and every Brentford player after Frank’s departure from the Bees to take on the job at Spurs, with Bryan Mbeumo thought to be of most interest.

Manchester United have already had a bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons rejected by Brentford for the winger and are expected to make an improved offer for the 25-year-old, whose reported preference is a move to Old Trafford, but reports suggesting Tottenham have dropped their interest are wide of the mark according to TBR Football.

‘Spurs are very much still in the reckoning for the forward, but he is one of many options they have on their list of targets’, the report states.

Mbeumo was full of praise for Frank when it was announced the Danish boss was leaving Brentford.

“It’s been my best season so far in the Premier League,” Mbeumo told Sky Sports.

“And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we’ve been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it’s been a fantastic season.

“[Thomas Frank] has done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I’m sure he’s going to do well.

“I think he knows everything. He’s really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. I think he’s been fantastic for Brentford.”

Tottenham also keen on Eze, who has a £60m release clause at Palace, which could rise to £68m depending on his performances.

The TBR report adds:

‘Frank has confirmed to club officials that he also appreciates the winger, with Tottenham having been after Eze since at least 2019, whilst he was playing for QPR.

‘However, Spurs could face competition for Eze as TBR Football has learned that Aston Villa and Arsenal are also considering entering the race.’

A source at a Premier League club has reportedly labelled a potential Tottenham bid for their captain as “100 per cent utter nonsense.”

Tottenham are on the hunt for a new wide forward this summer. They finished 17th in the Premier League last season, so a number of new signings are probably required.

In the attack, Spurs are being linked with the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, who is reportedly intrigued by a move due to his former boss at Brentford Thomas Frank taking charge.

But a recent report suggests Tottenham have cooled their interest. They are still being linked with some big names, though, with West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen a player of reported interest for a few weeks.

The Hammers forward is now on 99 direct goal contributions in the Premier League, and had one of his best campaigns last season, scoring 13 goals and assisting 10 more.

But Claret & Hugh have reportedly had confirmation from a source at West Ham that reports of an impending bid from Tottenham for Bowen are “100 per cent utter nonsense.”

Bowen himself is clearly settled in East London, having played there for five and a half years, winning a European trophy and rising through the ranks to become the captain and best player.

He recently suggested that though there is interest in him, the only way he’ll leave West Ham is if they decide to push him out.

“You score a couple of goals, the transfer window comes around the corner, and people are interested in you,” he said.

“I have been linked a few times in different transfer windows when I have had good seasons.

“I have been here for five, five-and-a-half years now, and I have got good numbers in goals and assists, so I think that is always going to come.

“But we are sitting here at a club where we have won a European trophy, we have finished in high places, had a Europa League semi-final, so we have had a lot of success as well since I have been here.

According to reports, Manchester United have edged closer to making their next signing as Tottenham Hotspur have ‘cooled’ their interest.

Ahead of this summer’s transfer window, it has been widely reported that the Red Devils are working with a limited budget and it’s even been suggested that they could have to sell to buy.

Man Utd’s situation worsened when they lost to Spurs in the Europa League final, as this defeat condemned them to a season without European football.

Despite this, United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for around £62.5m and they are far from finished.

Ruben Amorim‘s side were toothless in attack last season, so it’s hardly surprising that club chiefs have made it their priority to overhaul their forward department this summer.

Man Utd need to sign an upgrade on Ramus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee after they only scored seven Premier League goals between them in 2024/25, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres among their options.

However, United’s next signing looks likely to be another No.10 as they are pursuing Bryan Mbeumo, who is coming off a 20-goal Premier League campaign for Brentford.

Man Utd have had a bid turned down for Mbeumo, but a report on Tuesday revealed they are set to return with an improved offer as they look to lure the versatile forward to Old Trafford.

Considering Mbeumo was one of the best forwards in the Premier League in 2024/25, Man Utd were always going to face competition for the Brentford star and Spurs have reportedly made a ‘£70m hijack’ attempt.

It is has also been suggested that the appointment of Thomas Frank could boost Tottenham’s chances of signing Mbeumo, but he is still prioritising a move to Old Trafford.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that the north London club have admitted defeat and moved on to other targets with Mbeumo favouring Man Utd.

He tweeted: “Tottenham have cooled their interest in Bryan Mbeumo after understanding the player only wants Man UTD.

“THFC see it as almost impossible to overtake MUFC in the race at this stage.”

Crystal Palace standout Eberechi Eze is a potential alternative and ex-Premier League winger Shaun Wright-Phillips reckons Spurs would be a better move for him than Man Utd.

“He’s a wonderful player. He almost makes it look like he’s playing in second or third gear and he feels that the game is easy for him,” Wright-Phillips said.

“He just seems like he can give you so much more. I wouldn’t necessarily say Man United right now is the place for him to go with the ways everything is going on right down there.

“I personally thought if Heung-min Son leaves that he would be a Spurs target, to be honest with you. So I’m waiting to see what happens there. But I know Bryan Mbeumo is high on the priority list for Spurs, so they might not be looking at Eze.

“But for Palace, both Eze and Marc Guehi, if they get into Europe, those players don’t need to leave just yet, they can get plenty from staying for at least another year at Selhurst Park.”

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has revealed he “obviously” wants to sign a “great player” in a damaging raid on Tottenham this summer.

Spurs have already seen some big changes made this summer. Ange Postecoglou has been sacked as manager, despite winning the Europa League, and he’s been replaced by Thomas Frank.

There are a number of stars linked with Tottenham since he took the job, particularly from his old club, Brentford.

But there is also the potential of one massive exit. Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away for months, with Atletico Madrid looking his most likely destination.

Their manager, Simeone, has not even attempted to swerve suggestions that Romero could become an Atletico player.

He has told DSports: “Do I want Cuti Romero? Obviously. He’s a great player.”

Romero has already dropped a hint that he might be looking to leave Tottenham this summer. After winning the Europa League, he made a statement which sounded like a bit of a farewell.

“We achieved what we wanted this season as a group, and that’s what matters. My name is part of the history of this beautiful club. I want to thank you all for the love and support every day despite everything, but I have no doubt that staying together led us to success,” he said.

That came not long after the centre-back had suggested he wanted his next move to be to Spain. He stated he would “love to play in the Spanish league,” before suggesting that he would “love to compete in all the top leagues.”

Romero has played in Italy previously, and has had success in England, so it’s unsurprising that he’d want to test himself in Spain.

Atletico are essentially always one of the clubs battling for the title in Spain, and Romero has not had that in England, with Spurs never really getting close while he’s been there – the best finish was fourth in his first season.

Though Atletico finished third this season – behind Barcelona and Real Madrid – they last won the title in 2020/21, and they finished second in LaLiga two years prior.

As such, the signing of an experienced winner like Romero, off the back of Europa League triumph, could help the Madrid side make the push for their next piece of silverware.

Simon Jordan has suggested that Thomas Frank might not have been the right man for Tottenham to hire, as another Premier League boss could have been better if Spurs want to “win something again.”

Frank took over at Tottenham on June 12. He’s paradoxically both got a lot to live up to and not very much to live up to at all.

Finishing higher than 17th in the Premier League – where Spurs came in Ange Postecoglou’s final season – should be a piece of cake, but he also won the Europa League, ending a 17-year trophy drought and securing a place in the Champions League.

Frank has never managed in the elite European competition, and has only a couple of seasons in Europa League qualifying under his belt – not the tournament proper.

Jordan feels the choice between finishing higher in the league or winning another trophy must have been assessed at Tottenham, and believes Oliver Glasner might have been better for the latter.

“I would have gone in the Glasner direction,” he said on talkSPORT.

“I’m sorry Crystal Palace fans but I would have gone that way. It’s a difficult one to contextualise about the upgrade because they’ve won something but Brentford have finished above them in the league and it becomes by which metric do you measure this upgrade?

“Clearly they think it’s an upgrade otherwise Ange Postecoglou would still be in the job and this fellow wouldn’t be. It’s a very easy answer to give and both of us are giving it and we’ll find out.

“Again it’s by what metric. If you want your team at the upper end of the Premier League at all costs, then the answer probably is yes.

“If you want them to win something again, I don’t know. I don’t know.”

Frank has had some respectable Premier League finishes with Brentford, but has never won anything. Glasner, meanwhile, led Crystal Palace to their first major trophy ever after just over a year in charge.

He also won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt prior to that, and led them to the Champions League knockout stages.

For where Spurs want to be, Glasner might well have been the better option. That said, Palace may never have let him go after he led them to FA Cup triumph, and Frank had a release clause meaning Brentford could do nothing to stop him being lured away.
