Aston Villa have reportedly won the race to sign Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi after he “said no” to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Unai Emery’s side are among the biggest spenders in Europe this month as they have actively looked to strengthen after booking their place in the Champions League knockout stages.

The sale of Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr has raised funds as they have brought in Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia, Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio.

Asensio’s loan move to Aston Villa from Paris Saint-Germain was completed on deadline day and Disasi is also set to join the Premier League side before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea paid around £38.5m to sign 26-year-old Disasi from AS Monaco during the 2023 summer transfer window but he’s only made six Premier League appearances this season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing Disasi as they have desperately looked to sign a new centre-back, but they have been rejected by the defender, who is heading to Aston Villa.

On Monday night, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed a “deal is in place” for Disasi to join Aston Villa on a straight loan deal.

Romano said: “Axel Disasi to Aston Villa, here we go! Deal in place on loan with salary covered, matching loan fee offered by Tottenham.

“Disasi said no to Spurs all day long as he only wanted to join Aston Villa since 10 days ago. No buy option included.”

He added: “Loan fee for Axel Disasi to Aston Villa will be £5m with salary covered.”

The Athletic’s David Ornstein later noted that the two clubs have reached an agreement regarding Disasi.

‘Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on loan for the rest of the season.

‘The fee for the straight loan is approximately in the same range as a deal with Tottenham Hotspur that was £5million.

‘Spurs had been in discussions with Chelsea for Disasi earlier on deadline day but the centre-back is now expected to move to Villa Park.

‘Disasi had previously attracted interest from Villa but The Athletic reported on Sunday the West Midlands club were considering other centre-back options after failing to agree a deal for the France international with Chelsea.

‘Villa have been looking at signing a new player in that position after Diego Carlos’ departure to Fenerbahce.’

Arsenal, Man Utd target 'on his way to Tottenham' in shock change of heart after 'rejecting' transfer

After rejecting the chance to join Tottenham, Bayern Munich teenager Mathys Tel has agreed to join the Premier League club, according to reports.

Tottenham appear to have won the race for the Frenchman’s signature after he asked to leave Bayern.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all discussed a transfer but Spurs were the only club to make an offer.

They reportedly agreed a £50million fee with Bayern but the player was not keen on the move, turning down the chance to play for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, out of the blue, Tel has changed his mind and is on route to London to sign for Spurs.

This was first reported by Florian Plettenberg and has since been confirmed by Fabrice Hawkins and Fabrizio Romano, who has given the transfer a sudden ‘here we go’.

Plettenberg shared on social media that Tel is ‘on his way to Tottenham’ and ‘wants to join now’.

Hawkins then reported the loan before Romano confirmed that the two clubs have reached an agreement.

Romano wrote on X: ‘Mathys Tel to Tottenham on loan, here we go! Straight loan and NO buy option clause.

‘Agreement reached between clubs as Bayern have accepted player’s decision and player on his way with agent Gadiri Camara. Deal in place.’

He then shared a picture of Tel flying to London with his agent, which has been described as a ‘big surprise on deadline day’. Not half.

It has been a busy end to the January transfer window for Spurs, who hijacked Wolves’ pursuit of centre-back Kevin Danso and also tried to sign Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Daniel Levy has clearly been given a kick up the backside from angry supporters and reportedly made a £70m offer to sign Guehi over the weekend.

Chelsea defender 'resisting' Spurs transfer as Blues 'reject' bid from 'greater rivals' to leave star in 'limbo'

According to reports, Aston Villa are interested in signing Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi, who is ‘resisting’ a loan transfer to Tottenham.

Disasi has been used sparingly this season, making 17 appearances across all competitions since Enzo Maresca’s arrival in the summer.

The Frenchman joined Chelsea from AS Monaco for around £38million in August 2023.

He has been pretty average since moving to the Premier League, gradually falling further and further down the centre-back pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

👉 January Transfer Deadline Day 2025: Follow it LIVE with F365… 👈

The Blues are expected to be busy on deadline day, with several of their players being linked with an exit.

Tottenham have registered an interest in Disasi as Ange Postecoglou contends with an unholy amount of defensive injuries.

Postecoglou recently brought in Kevin Danso from RC Lens but is reportedly eager to add Disasi before the January transfer window closes.

There is also interest from Aston Villa, however. Unai Emery allowed Diego Carlos to join Fenerbahce this month and has now sanctioned the loan departure of full-back Kosta Nedeljkovic.

Disasi would provide some much-needed defensive depth and Telegraph Sport says Unai Emery’s side are ready to ‘do battle’ with Spurs for the signing.

The report says Disasi has ‘so far resisted a loan move to Tottenham’ with Chelsea ‘braced for a last-gasp approach from Villa’.

It is claimed that Spurs and Chelsea have ‘agreed a £5million deal’ for the 26-year-old to move on loan for the rest of 2024/25 but the player appears to be reluctant.

Interestingly, Villa have offered more to take Disasi for six months but Chelsea have rejected their loan bid ‘because they believe Villa to be a greater rival for Champions League qualification’, leaving him in ‘limbo’.

Despite there being no agreement between the two clubs, Disasi has ‘agreed terms’ with the Villans while he continues to ‘resist giving the green light to Spurs’.

Emery’s side will ‘try again for Disasi’ on deadline day and if no agreement can be reached, he will likely reluctantly accept a temporary move to Spurs.

Following Trevoh Chalobah’s return from his Crystal Palace loan, Disasi risks being left out in the cold for the rest of the season if he does not leave on Monday.

There is also interest in Chelsea’s Joao Felix, with AC Milan ‘leading the way’ to sign him on loan after allowing Alvaro Morata to leave.

Villa and Spurs are also interested but the Blues would rather loan Felix abroad than to a Premier League rival.

Chelsea are ‘working on’ a couple of incoming transfers as well, with Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly on their ‘radar’.

defying season takes another huge turn as unlikely hero emerges

Description

There are lots of ways to try and understand the sheer absurdity of this Tottenham season.

We tried it with numbers earlier in the week, and entirely fittingly, that has now been largely overtaken by events. We’re not saying that us pointing out Nottingham Forest had an underwhelming goal difference is the entire reason they went out and put seven past Brighton, but we are comfortable claiming, what, 10 or 15 or 35 per cent of the credit.

Another way to look at it now is by deciding who the best player is. At the start of the season, most would probably have agreed Son Heung-min was Tottenham’s best player. Within a couple of months of the season it was clear that it was in fact Dejan Kulusevski.

We were not entirely sure how to feel about that. We like him an awful lot, but he still kind of feels to us like a very good Big Six player but not quite a ‘best player at the club’ kind of character.

Now we must all try and come to terms with the even more alarming but now surely undeniably true fact that Tottenham’s best player is Djed Spence.

Spurs’ season has been a largely horrifying crisitunity of one sort or another, and it’s one that’s been taken by several players.

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have been significant positives for Spurs during the darkest moments, while the opportunities for the academy kids Ange Postecoglou has now been forced to turn to reached a zenith in the Europa League on Thursday night when three players – the oldest of them a 20-year-old Dane Scarlett, who was at the time only the fifth-youngest Spurs player on the pitch – scored their first senior goals for the club.

But no player’s rise during this season of such bleak unpleasantness has been less expected than Spence’s. Gray and Mikey Moore and Bergvall and the like were players expected to have significant Spurs careers, just maybe not quite so significant quite so soon. Spence, at 24, was a player whose Spurs career – such as it was – already felt like it could be discussed in the past tense.

So far from first-team thoughts was he that he wasn’t even registered in the Europa League squad at the start of the season and – crucially – not one person at the time thought this a surprising or noteworthy call.

To watch him here, though, was to wonder at just how that could ever have been the case. Playing out of position at left-back, as he has pretty much since returning to the side through necessity towards the end of last year, he produced surely his best performance yet in a Spurs shirt in the toughest of circumstances.

There was a collective wince when the teamsheet revealed no sign of Micky van de Ven even on the bench after his return to the starting XI on Thursday night. The idea of Spurs taking all three points here at that time seemed absurd; the idea of them doing so via just a fifth Premier League clean sheet of the season palpably absurd.

Yet that is precisely what they did, with Spence pocketing Bryan Mbeumo in startlingly impressive fashion.

The entire Spurs defence – and team – deserve huge credit for this wildly out-of-character backs-to-the-wall performance. Brentford sent 40-odd crosses into the Spurs penalty area and created almost nothing clear-cut from any of it. Antonin Kinsky was strong and decisive when he needed to be – another narrative-busting effort – while Gray and Ben Davies put not one foot wrong.

This is still just one game and one result, albeit a crucial one that lifts Spurs back to 10 points above the relegation zone ahead of a run of huge games across multiple competitions in one of the oddest seasons ever. And there’s a sense of even this kind of belligerent, heroic defensive effort at the home of a team that has scored more home goals than anyone else just being more Spursy banter. Of course they keep a clean sheet here after shipping five goals to Everton and Leicester.

The opening goal was even the sort of goal Spurs more generally concede than score, a corner swung into the six-yard box causing a keeper to panic and a confused defender to knock the ball into the goal off his back with no Spurs player within three yards of it. Bonus points for the fact Spurs hadn’t in fact registered a shot on target at the time they scored, or indeed for several minutes after.

The second goal was a much more Good Spurs kind of affair, a patient counter-attack involving the entire team and ending with a clever Pape Sarr finish.

To return to numbers, it does mean that Spurs still haven’t completed a one-goal win in the Premier League this season. But what they have done now is prove at last that they can win in adversity, that they can tough it out rather than only being able to win games in which they saunter three or four goals clear.

It is something you might ideally do before February, but better late than never; a cliche that might yet still apply to the winning of trophies. This is a Spurs season that defies logic and in which nothing should be ruled out.

goal striker in second French raid after Danso confirmation

Tottenham are reportedly ‘weighing up’ a move for Lorient striker Eli Junior Kroupi, who’s believed to be worth £20million, after confirming the signing of Kevin Danso.

Spurs have been hit with a couple of failures in the January transfer window. They have prioritised the signings of a striker and centre-back, and have been rejected by a player in each position.

Mathys Tel was the favoured striker target, but after Bayern Munich said yes to the transfer, the 19-year-old said no, with more options still available to him, such as Manchester United and Aston Villa, though two signings for the Villans may put paid to their chances.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are now ‘weighing up’ the signing of Lorient striker Kroupi, who’s starring in Ligue 2 this season, with nine goals, and another in the Coupe de France.

It’s believed the second-tier French side would consider selling their striker ‘for the right price’, with a figure of £20million floated in the report.

But with Kroupi an 18-year-old who’s playing in Ligue 2 rather than Ligue 1, he’s seen as a signing for the future, and it’s believed Spurs would not be able to afford that outlay for a player who’s not going to be heavily utilised immediately.

They are considering the transfer nonetheless, and if they were to land the striker, he’d be the second player taken from France in quick succession.

Indeed, Spurs have managed to land a centre-back after Fikayo Tomori turned them down, with Lens man Danso joining the club.

The north London club state that Danso will be on loan with the club for the first six months, with the deal then becoming permanent in the summer.

Speaking on the signing, the defender said: “It’s an amazing project to be part of and I’m happy to be here.”

Tottenham news: Spurs ask Chelsea for forward on four

Description

Tottenham are seemingly desperate to improve their attack at the back end of January, and they have asked for four players, including one from Chelsea, after missing out on Mathys Tel.

Dominic Solanke’s injury for the next few weeks could be a problem for Spurs. For a side 15th in the Premier League, losing one of their most potent attacking assets cannot be good.

The north London outfit thought they had struck gold when Bayern Munich agreed to let Mathys Tel go to them, but the striker swiftly knocked back their approach in order to remain – though he could still head to a Premier League rival.

Scrambling to find an option to improve their attack, TBRFootball reports Tottenham have enquired over the availability of four men, including Chelsea’s Nkunku.

His future has been up in the air for a while amid a suggestion he is not happy at Stamford Bridge, playing less than 500 Premier League minutes this season, so that move could have legs.

Other enquiries have been made for James McAtee, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyler Dibling, per the report.

Manchester City have told suitors that McAtee is not available as they see him becoming a first-team star at some point, and there is a lot of competition for Garnacho, with Chelsea making the hardest push at present.

Dibling could well become available, but our friends at TEAMtalk have stated that will not be until the summer.

It therefore seems that Nkunku is the best option for Tottenham to improve their attack out of those players, or they will have to look into other options, something they’d likely rather not do as the window creeps to a close.

That Chelsea are said to be open to letting the forward go is a positive sign for Spurs, though it remains to be seen how likely that is.

Elsewhere, Spurs have been shot down by centre-back Fikayo Tomori, making it two rejections in quick succession, and they’ll hope there are no more to come as they desperately attempt to improve their position.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur have made an ‘approach’ to hijack Aston Villa’s move to sign Chelsea star Axel Disasi.

Spurs are desperate to sign a new centre-back before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.

Ange Postecoglou – who is one of the favourites to be the next Premier League manager sacked – has been without Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven for most of this season, so several players have had to be used out of position at centre-back.

Van de Ven returned against Elfsborg in the Europa League on Thursday night, but Radu Dragusin was forced off injured shortly after coming on at half-time.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since revealed that they fear Dragusin’s injury “could be serious”.

He said: “Tottenham internally feel that Radu Dragusin’s knee injury could be serious, at least one and eventually two centre back will be joining in the final days.

“Negotiations are ongoing for Fikayo Tomori and more options on the shortlist.”

‘Tottenham were looking to sign the England international and talks with the Serie A club had reached an advanced stage.

“Disasi already agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and he’s now expected to make a decision soon. Up to the player.”

Tottenham are 15th in the Premier League table and despite their recent transfer woes, Postecoglou insists they are still an attractive destination for transfer targets: “It depends what the players are looking for.

“You can look at it two ways, OK the league form is not great but there’s some pretty big possibilities to have success here in the last three or four months.

“It’s still a big club, it’s still a club that can challenge for honours and it’s whether the player sees the potential that we see right now, or certainly that I see. If it’s too much of a hard sell, it’s probably not the right one for us.”

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils are looking to offload a couple of pricey talents before the January transfer window closes as they need to raise funds for a huge rebuild.

United’s dire start to the 2024/25 season has opened the door for pretty much their entire squad to leave if they receive a suitable offer and Garnacho is arguably the most likely to leave.

Garnacho would be a pure profit sale and he has attracted interest from Napoli and Chelsea this month.

This saga has taken a new twist, though. According to The Daily Mail, Spurs have ‘made a shock enquiry’ for Garnacho after Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel rejected them.

READ: Ten blockbuster moves for the perfect end to the January transfer window

The report explains:

‘United have been willing to sell for around £60million amid interest from Chelsea and Napoli.

‘It is unclear whether Garnacho would consider the move to Tottenham at this stage.

‘Spurs’ initial enquiry around the Argentine winger was around a loan deal, and the north London outfit have a long-standing, strong interest in Garnacho, though talks have still to progress.

‘Spurs’ late move for the Argentine winger comes just hours after a move for Bayern winger Tel broke down. The north Londoners had reached a £50m agreement with Bayern over the player, leaving talks between Tel and his agent as the final hurdle to get a deal over the line.’

On Friday, a report from journalist Fraser Fletcher from our pals at TEAMtalk claims a ‘swap deal’ involving Garnacho and Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunu is ‘alive’.

‘Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel is of interest to Chelsea, Man Utd, Tottenham and others after the 19-year-old has made it clear he’s open to a new challenge.

‘But an even bigger deal could still be done with sources adamant that Garnacho remains a key target for Chelsea and a move to the London side is not off the cards yet.

‘Man Utd, meanwhile, have asked to be kept informed of Nkunku’s situation, with the striker open to moving elsewhere to get more consistent playing time.

‘That has set up an opportunity for the clubs to do two deals that would see both players make the switch, although they would be ‘separate’ transfers for PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules) purposes.

‘There is also a belief behind the scenes at Man Utd that Nkunku would fit perfectly into Ruben Amorim’s system and the manager is keen to work with him.’

According to reports, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up talks regarding Fikayo Tomori’s potential return to the Premier League.

Spurs are working to complete a couple of signings before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.

One of Ange Postecoglou‘s priorities is to sign a new centre-back as they have been dogged by injuries in this department this season.

Tottenham have been without Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven for much of this season as Archie Gray, Ben Davies, Djed Spence and Co. have been used out of position at centre-back.

Van de Ven returned to Tottenham’s starting XI against Elfsborg in the Europa League, but their injury woes worsened as Radu Dragusin was forced off after replacing the Dutchman at half-time.

Postecoglou – favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked – has revealed that Dragusin is a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Brentford. He said: “We’ve got to let it settle down.

“We’ll get some more information over the weekend. He’s (unlikely to be) involved this weekend, at the moment. We’ll have to wait to see the extent of it.

“Hard to tell (the extent of the injury). It’s a knee (issue), (but we’ve) got to let it settle down. Always a concern when it’s a knee injury, but we have to wait and see”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has subsequently revealed that Spurs fear Dragusin’s injury “could be serious”.

He said: “Tottenham internally feel that Radu Dragusin’s knee injury could be serious, at least one and eventually two centre back will be joining in the final days.

Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has reportedly made his final transfer decision amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

The France U21 international – who has 16 goals in 83 appearances – has impressed in flashes for Bayern Munich, but he’s barely featured for the Bundesliga giants this season as he’s behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.

With game time hard to come by at Bayern, a report earlier this week revealed he had ‘decided’ to leave Vincent Kompany’s side this month.

Several Premier League clubs are in the market for a new striker and have shown interest in Tel, who has attracted a £50m bid from Tottenham Hotspur.

Bayern Munich agreed to sell Tel at this price, but Fabrizio Romano revealed on Friday evening that he’s rejected a move to Spurs.

Romano said: “Mathys Tel’s current decision is to reject Tottenham proposal.

“Despite willingness to sign him for €60m package and face to face talks, Tel has informed Spurs about his decision.

“Barring any surprises, Tel won’t join Spurs… more PL clubs are on it now.”

He added: “Mathys Tel and his agent are in Munich together to assess all options after rejecting Spurs proposal.

“Tottenham will explore other targets while Tel will consider other bids for loan/permanent move. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa all in contact.”

As mentioned, this left four Premier League clubs chasing Tel, but The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting that they will miss out on the forward.
